why does it feel like EO2 has the most “motion” in its portrait poses out of all the mainline EOs? Like of all the poses in eo2 i feel the only ones that are static or just lacking are Alchemists 1-4 and Ronin 2 & 4.

Otherwise, just about every portrait’s got some flair in their pose, with Survivalists 1-4, Protectors 2 & 4, and Medics 1-4 having some of my favorite poses. Funny enough, the new 5th portraits for medic & survivalist are the ones with the least movement, but there’s still enough going on. Like they’re still ready for action (or to cause some mischief) in a way that fits their respective classes. Thats another thing I try to think about too. Like I wouldn’t expect the hexers to be doing any wild action poses, which they don’t, but their poses work for them. Also helps that hexers 1-4 have their cloaks doing a lot of movement for them.

As for other games, EO1’s definitely got the most static overall to me… understandably enough. First game, first time doing this and all. Maybe eo2’s poses were a direct response to that.

After that would be… eo4, then eo3, then eo5 for mainline.

…As for the EMD duology, I actually put their poses above EO2 for movement. EMD games actually have some of my favorite poses with the most movement. The alchemists are so damn STYLIN in EMD2!!

As for Nexus, there’s only 6 new portraits so it doesnt feel fair to count them. All the heroes are pretty damn static though. The vampires poses are cool though.

so the order of least to most movement to me is 1 -> 4 -> 3 -> 5 -> 2 -> EMDs.

There’s also a separate matter, being whether the pose itself is GOOD— as in a pose having a lot of movement but the pose itself just being kinda off (anatomy-wise), or meh. But this was moreso about how much movement the poses have in the first place.

#medic 1’s eo2 & emd poses are SO DAMN EXTRA FOR NO REASON. I LOVE EM #examples for my last point is eo5’s warlocks 2 & 4. like there’s MOTION in the poses but also the poses are just. weird to me. #like theyre kinda squatting but not really. & leaning forward a bit?? and their weapon being held up doesnt help the pose either #i think if the arms were lowered with the weapon— similar to war magus 1 & 3– itd be nicer?? #etrian odyssey

minecraft: no any roblox game: no undertale: unpopular opinion but i think if you remove the metanarrative the pacifist route would make for a cute animated movie🤷like a child falling down a mountain and meeting monsters and saving them. but the charms really hard to get right so i dont trust anyone to do it but i think it would be doable if you try really hard and really really care about it (but i think toby fox refused to make it so i guess not) mario odyssey: mm no portal: 1 no 2 i think it would be cute disco elysium: i feel like a tv series would fit but theres like. too many things to explore stanly parable: no i dont see ittttttt. like if anything a stageplay would be cool but idk how itd work rpg maker xp: sure whatever

grrrr scripting exodus gets hard when im trying to decide when and where shelter and odysseys stuff should appear since phrases is technically our perspective character (for the most part not entirely consistently). at first i was thinking id have them take turns w chapters but now i think i might just intersperse some scenes into the starts and ends of normal perspective chapters. idk. i DO know that after dune beats space up were not gonna see them again until rivers phrases and root get to fleck. i thought of maybe giving space some perspective time here but 1. itd just be them limping miserably through the world for a couple weeks and 2. in the very off chance that somebody who doesnt follow me on tumblr reads this theyll get to worry about them the whole time lmao

A shorter more stupider ramble about a little concept I want after I watched Day 3 of the odyssey story

When I tell you I was literally screaming and crying so much in real life when this part of Day 3 dropped is an understatement.

Like okay man just go ahead and create a whole new fucking soul jam that resonated with YOUR SOUL like that no biggie mhm mhm. We’ll see you become an ancient soon yeah yeah just everyday things

I’m not really about theories so I’m just gonna like.. say shit and hope it makes sense. Like I always do except now I know that I have a lot to say at all times about him!!

The thing I’m most scared about is the fact that he’s gonna lose it a bit with the amount of power a soul jam contains. The way I imagined the entire process of converting the soul jam energy was that,, the energy that a soul jam has is sealed and kept stable inside of a receptacle, aka like the gems itself. But Espresso and the other researchers were extracting some of the energy inside of the soul jam, which left it alone in it’s purest form which is why all the receptacles they used before kept breaking. It’s too strong by itself, and needs something sturdy to keep it at bay AS WELL as something apart of somebodies soul. Hence why its like, called a soul jam.

Espresso and everyone else had mentioned so many times how powerful a soul jam really is, which is why I’m like. A bit scared for him. I never saw him as a type to chase for power, chase for an upper hand amongst other people. But with all the energy inside his soul jam, it could be enough that it could somewhat corrupt him.. like mentally?? The power could also be way too much to a point he could possibly injure himself while trying to use it.

But that is like LOWKEY KINDA WHAT I WANT BECAUSE ITD BE SOOOOO FUN TO SEE HIM SLOWLY LOSE IT AND GET CONSUMED IN ALL THE POWER. This is probably the highest point his job has ever gone up to. Again, bouncing back to an earlier post, I REALLY think the Council doesn’t take Espresso as seriously. Classism is obviously like an actual thing in the Republic, and it’s already been made known that Espresso spent the majority of his childhood in the lower city of the Republic. He probably worked his ass off to get to where he is now, but even then the Council just won’t realise the amount of potential Espresso has if they’d just give him a chance.

Sure, he’s been probably been proven to be an extremely successful scientist and researcher for the Republic. But even then his past just continues to play into how others view him, like how having been in the lower city just makes you less eligible than anybody else.

So back to the main point, I want him to get consumed in the power of the soul jam. He’s so sick and tired of nobody respecting him like everyone else. He’s seen as less than his colleagues, he’s heard others say he’s just a street rat that got lucky because he just so happened to have the brains when he was born in that dump. All of his colleagues never took him seriously, the COUNCIL didn’t take him seriously. He works his ass off day and night, trying to prove that he can be MORE than just ‘some researcher’. But the Council just takes that effort and still proceeds to severely underpay him.

He’s exhausted of this kind of treatment. He knows he can be better than everyone else, actually, he IS better than everyone else, no? Maybe for once, maybe for once in his fucking life everyone will realise he is worth more than they think he is.

Hope this makes sense and I’m not losing you guys

I’m gonna expand more on this later, this is SO fun to me and I have so much more shit to say.
