I get the issues with artist compensation with the rise of Spotify and streaming and all that. But I also think the people who constantly say we should all be buying albums, and ideally in a physical format, are wildly out of touch with how most people actually listen to music.

Like, in a lot of ways it's mostly a replacement for the radio, not personal music collections.

#i used to be fully on the physical cds only train and bought only albums etc etc #that was when i was in high school and had time to spend on it #music isnt a hobby or anything its just something i listen to in the car or at work in the background #and i simply do not have the motivation to hunt down new artists and albums like i used to #i use spotify because i dont listen to very popular genres so the radio isnt an option #if i couldnt stream i definitely would not be buying albums. i would just be listening to less music tbh #or id resign myself to the least objectionable radio station

really intriguing situation this year where apple music is technically more accurate since i listen to it way more than spotify, but because of that, my yearly results are absolutely swamped by the music i listen to daily just to fall asleep, which i do not consider to be indicative of my larger music tastes because i don't listen to that music when i'm actually conscious. and so despite being a fraction of my total listening time, spotify is actually more accurate in terms of the diversity of overall genres of music i did in fact listen to this year
