Red Son x GN!Reader: Happy Birthday!

My 20th birthday has passed and I wanted to celebrate with a fanfic. I promise I will work on the small list of requests I have piling up, but this red baby needed a fanfic. I guess this is my [very late] birthday gift…?

IF THERE ARE ANY PRONOUNS THAT ARE NOT GN FOR READER, LET ME KNOW AND I WILL FIX IT ASAP.

Red Son was sat at her desk with about a dozen crumbled up and/or torn up pieces of paper that were filled with scribbles flooding every surface around her.

She was trying to prepare for her significant other's birthday. However, the task of coming up with something to give Y/n was proving to be more difficult than Red Son accounted for.

After around two hours, Red Son decided to take a small nap...okay that's a lie. What actually happened is that Red Son passed out on her desk mid-scribble on her papers.

"Red Son?" She just about shot up fin her seat, at first thinking that it was Y/n beside her. However, it luckily just appeared to be her father, DBK.

"F-father!? What are you doing in here? I-it's still early in the morning!" Red Son said, clearly confused as her father was FAR from a morning person.

At this, The Demon Bull King blinked once or twice. He clearly was confused as well. "Red Son, I came down here to tell you that it was time for dinner."

...

Silence for a beat or two.

After a moment or two of quiet, Red Son groaned loudly and face-planted onto her desk.

DBK felt a sweat drop, feeling around ten times more concerned for his hot-headed child.

"Nothing is GOOD ENOUGH!!" Red Son yelled, her hair igniting into flames.

Not sure of what to do, DBK patted Red Son's shoulder gently. "Uh, there there...?" He said, uncertainty leaking from every syllable.

Despite the crappy way to try and comfort someone, Red Son somehow felt it start to help as she slowly relaxed. This could be guessed because her flaming hair calmed itself, as well as how she peeled her face off of the table and her expression was just glum instead of full of rage, like before.

"Red Son, what is troubling you?" DBK asked, the effort he was making was strong and commendable despite how poorly it could be seen as.

Red Son sighed lightly. "Y/n's birthday is coming up in four days and I...I just CAN'T think of what a good gift for them could be! I swear this is more impossible than scheming to taking over the city!!"

DBK could empathize. "Well, Red Son, maybe you should stop trying to figure it out on your own and ask your mother for help. Or perhaps you could ask the noodle-boy and dragon-girl for advice." DBK chuckled. "I am afraid I will not be able to help much, though."

"Huh, why not?"

"I once gave your mother asparagus for our anniversary. I...am not sure I could help you if I wanted to." DBK explained, a little embarrassed at having to admit a blunder like that to Red Son. DBK patted her shoulder again.

"But, whatever you decide to give Y/n, make sure you put your heart into it." DBK then turned and left, leaving Red Son with her thoughts.

"Put your heart into it..." Red Son mumbled. She wrote those words down before deciding to ask around.

Well, Red Son had asked everyone, and I mean EVERYONE she knew, about what to get Y/n. Some of the advice was good. Macaque mentioned to get them something that will always make them think of Red Son. Tang and Ne zha both said to get them something personal, but useful.

Some of the other advice Red Son received was not as constructive. Like, how Wukong had suggested a gift that would not and SHOULD not be said in front of a room full of children. MK and Mei were really random with their gift ideas, but almost everyone said something similar at the end of the day:

"Put your heart into it."

These words swirled around in Red Son's fiery head so much it felt like the world was spinning.

But finally, it was time.

Y/n was seated across from Red Son, enjoying a small dinner at their apartment that Red Son INSISTED on cooking.

"Um, Y/n, I-I have your gift." Red Son said, pulling on her collar nervously. "C-could you close your eyes for me, dear?"

Confused, but compliant, Y/n agreed and did as told. Red Son fumbled with getting the box out of her inner coat pocket, but got it out without tearing up the wrapping paper, luckily.

"Alright, open them."

Y/n did just that and was greeted with a bright red wrapped box. The bow of the box was a vibrant (Favorite color), the bow shining in the light. It was almost a shame to rip the wrapping off, but it needed to be done.

Y/n began to tear off the wrapping, revealing a box (red of course) that was velvety. With a confused glance at Red Son, Y/n opened the lid of the box and gasped as they saw a picture frame. It was a picture frame in the shape of a big heart, a small slideshow of photos Y/n and Red Son took together playing on a loop within the frame.

"I-I wasn't sure about what exactly to get you, but I just thought that I could...put my heart into it?" Red Son began to trail off as he saw Y/n was starting to tear up. "Y-Y/n? What's wrong? Is it not right? I-I just--!" Y/n cut Red Son off and launched themself into her arms.

"It's perfect. You're perfect, Red Son. I love it. I-I-I love you. Thank you." Y/n said softly as they fought back the tears. Red Son had to fight the sudden surge of emotion as the love of her life held onto her for dear life.

Red Son smiled and placed the picture frame on the coffee table next to the pair. The two of them then spent the longest time looking at the photos slide onto the frame, enjoying the memories and the moment with each other.

ok but let's discuss astrology. like i just made girls natal charts and got a thought. what rising sign would you give to each sister? (lmao their charts like literally witchy and kinda strange, like prue is a scorpio sun and aquarius moon, piper's a leo sun and sag moon, phoebe's a scorpio sun and libra moon, and paige is a leo sun and pisces moon. like... these are very strange. but funny)

!! okay. so. so like many moons ago i started a charmed astrology series that i literally never finished but hey maybe i should finish that where i like. did the girls whole charts. mainly based off vibes i kept the generational signs and the sun signs

which sidebar that ik is gonna be a long enough rant to warrant it's own paragraph but i'm a diehard piper capricorn truther because like in canon we are given not one not two but three whole pieces of conflicting evidence for piper's birthday first being the family tree placing her as a leo in s2 next phoebe's line decreeing her a gemini in s3 and then 3) a whole ass birthday episode in s6 set in january, placing her as either a capricorn or an aquarius. (which, it has been argued. could potentially be in july/august or may/june But. given the timeline with chris's birth take into account and also relativity to wyatt's birthday which is canonically in february. it's p solidly january in my opinion.) anyways so not only am i a capricorn truther because i think it is the best sign for her like everything about her to me reads very strongly earth sign like shure u could argue leo i can see it gemini is really reaching imo i really. i do not see her as a gemini. But. not only am i a capricorn truther because she's a capricorn, i am also a capricorn truther because given the three pieces of evidence, which was the most canon weight: a prop, a quip, or an episode. right??? like. like if we accept the family tree as canon there are literally so many errors there stuff that simply is not canon it was just made by some guy in props prue's birth year is wrong given her past life's death year, grams not only has like a brother like 20 years her jr i'm p sure it also implies she gave birth to patty at age 13 like there is So Much fucked up in that tree (and they never even put paige on there!!!!!!!!!!)

anyways. piper=capricorn. i also did moon sign off vibes just because i prefer it that way but ig these are like. their canon moon signs. given the day/year. i do really like aquarius for prue i love pisces for paige because i feel like it leans into that artist side and really like um. like the fact i think paige really doesn't lean into her moon sign that much i think like you know that whole well of emotions i think it can be very debilitating for her if that gets opened (like what we saw in a paige from the past) so i think kind of her bursts of creativity and her like. she kind of has this sort of bleeding heart when it comes to looking out for people she barely knows i think that really is her moon sign scratching its way to the surface because i really don't think paige like again i don't think she leans into it that much she's not someone who leads with her emotions. for phoebe's libra moon i'm literally just like advice columnist. yeah. if i'm still on my piper capricorn tilt i think the bday i gave her was the 13th, so her moon sign would be taurus. which i also like for her. like her being possessed by gluttony and also her speech to the elders in early s3 in once upon a time where she demands leo back? yeah.

but!! rising signs. starting with prue i think she'd probably have an fire rising sign just given like. like her energy. like in school she was head cheerleader we see constantly throughout the show like her first impressions kick your ass like everyone knows they're looking at a fierce spirit when they first meet her. i would say the ram i'd say prue aries rising. for piper i'm saying cancer rising. to level with you i'm not even considering the other ones she just feels so cancer rising like in high school she was nobody in almost every situation in the early seasons (and honestly sometimes beyond that) people just look at her and go oh. housewife. doormat. i can walk all over her (both douchebag bosses at quake, the like. homeowners association meeting in the s3 episode where the triquetra breaks. the high school reunion ep). but on the more positive side her and leo's early relationship and the really shy dance around each other a sweet puppy love or even why tyler the firestarter first showed up in the house it was piper who was able to put him at ease i'm saying cancer rising. next up on the docket is phoebe who i am going to give a leo rising just because she does always seem to have this (occasionally unwarranted) confidence like she turns heads when she enters a room she has this power this chutzpah that i think only gets further driven up in shallow situations (like what we say with clay her ex-flame from new york i mean, you barely had a spare minute in new york, three jobs just to afford your social calendar type shit) like i think she. yeah. i think she's a leo rising. paige i think i'm gonna give an aquarius rising to paige just because like yes the whole "humanitarian" aspect of the aquarius sign which like. like to level with you. think of all the aquarians you know. humanitarian? how many people would you genuinely describe as humanitarian maybe i just personally have beef with like. aquarian men. just like. in general. but humanitarian? really? it's mainly just guys sucking themselves off to their own ideas about how the world works and assuming that every single other person is like them and that's why society is the way it is and blah blah blah blah i'm sorry this was in college it's a small sample size ik i try not to hate all aquarians. but humanitarian? anyways tho i think if someone were to like actually read humanitarian i think paige is def a candidate but i think what really sells her on the aquarius rising for me is the fact that i think she is really difficult to get a read on (which is another trait i associate w aquarians due to their lack of emotions, as we all know. i'm sorry i'm really gonna hafta go back and find the aquarian who hurt me bc i feel like this is running strangely deep. but i also feel like i'm right so.) but i think paige is like. like, if we look back on almost all of her first introductions (first meeting the sisters, kind of first interactions with leo, first interactions with richard, first interactions with kyle), like. there is something detached there, but like, slightly underneath, this strong desire to help. yeah. <3

Honestly? Not for very long I suppose? Considering I found out about the game series itself a few days before my Bday? (mid-may) Since June or July, if I remember correctly? Though, weird as it sounds, I got memories before then too so! Thats a weird thing!

(tbh idk the technical term or if kin IS the right term since idk much about kinning due to kinning on the down low for the longest? whats a self hood?)

I prefer baking over cooking, actually! But I like making soups/stews/chili's! But baking....hmm. Cakes, brownies, pies, and the like! And cookies, of course~

Um. Tbh? I have shit taste lmao.... But most majou shoujo/majokko, nearly anything with kemonomimi, and horror-ish! (and a few cute slice of life anime but I won't ever admit it~) But favorite shows are....hmm.... Just a few? Senko-san, Akme ga Kill, Nekopara, Princess Jellyfish, Cardcaptor Sakura, Sailor Moon, and Elfen Lied. (and Death Note worst taste ever i know) And I'm starting to get into Serial Experiment Lain! Its so weird, I love it!

Autumn! Spring is a close second! I love watching the leaves fall during autumn and the petals when spring ends! Only problem with both is all the rain.... Plus they have some interesting holidays during them so thats neat!

I mightve not mentioned this one, I remember my Lawrence tried to comfort me during a really nasty storm? I hid in his bathroom and he brought in blankets and something to drink and tried to calm me down! He was petting my ears and kept offering to make more tea? cocoa? some kind of warm drink!

And there was this one time when Strade was falling asleep and let me watch some if my anime in the living room while he drifted off! And I was sneaking around so I could make popcorn while he was out, so I didn't have to share! So that was fun! I think I ended up falling asleep on him? Or maybe he moved me onto his lap, idk?

UPDATE 4

OK!!! So this update is a ~lil~ bit off my normal update schedule, but honestly better late than never :)

July 25th marked the official end of my first Chloe Ting challenge: her 4 week summer shred. I didn’t lose as many lbs as I figured I would throughout which kinda disappointed me at first bc i was eating clean enough and often times less calories than i probably shoulda been eating so it like didn’t make sense??? but then today i retook my measurements (which i initially took the day i started the challenge on june 27th) and OH MY GOD???? I LOST 11 INCHES TOTAL AROUND MY BODY????? I CANNOT BELIEVE IT??????? I was so so so so so so proud/happy and I’m amazed. It makes sense now why I didn’t lose ~as many~ lbs as i initially figured i would bc i musta gained a lil bit o’ muscle and im happy af bc muscle burns fat :)

I am planning to start a new 4 week summer shred a week this friday and im waiting a week to start the new shred for a few different reasons: 1) mentally, physically, emotionally, im tired and im EXTREMELY proud of myself so i recognize that my accomplishments deserve a lil time off! Ive earned it! 2) chloe literally recommends taking a week off inbetween challenges to get the various types of rest needed and shes the expert here not me so there ya go. and finally, (which is honestly my fav and most extra reason lmao), 3) both my siblings birthday is august 3 and my birthday is august 16. by starting the next 4 week (28 day) challenge on july 31 i am perfectly timing my active rest days on the 4th and 17th days of the challenge to fall on both their and my respective bdays. i realized that the other day when trying to decide when to start my next shred and if thats not just the happiest of accidents idk what is :’)

Im not gonna lie and say the last few months have been easy on my mental health. i graduated college this past december and since then i have felt this never ending spiral that im old and my best days are behind me and theres just an impending doom to get my life together/perfect. and this pandemic only made things abt a billion-ish times worse. i got furloughed so i didnt even have my bullshit part-time job to keep life somewhat “scheduled” for myself and that really sucked. i cut ties with a person who had been a constant and sense of comfort in april bc of my so-called-friends ignorance, selfishness and lack of communication and things had just not been the best. dont get me wrong, i am so privileged to have my family all together, have everyone be healthy and safe and comfortable enough (both financially and physically) to stay homes for months on end but i wont lie and say it hasnt taken somewhat of a mental toll. BUT ANYWAYS my point was that in spite of quarantine dragging me further down, i feel like this newfound lifestyle transformation journey has given me a reason to continue bettering myself and has made for a good reason to look in the mirror.

Enough sappiness i should probably end this overly dramatic and unnecessarily long update post bc honestly no one is reading this anyways lol. were all in this together (<3 troy bolton style <3) and if anyone should ever need my support, even if only virtually, i am here!

P.S. this may be an INSANE thought butttttttttt is it weird that i ~cannot wait~ for halloween. its still 3 months away but wow oh wow am i already siked for it to arrive :D

P.P.S. i found this killer marble cake recipe bc im gonna be making my own bday cake and i literally cant wait to try it i hope it turns out well... unlike some of my past cakes lmao........

marlene mckinnon is nineteen years old and she is a member of the order of the phoenix. the pureblood is a former gryffindor and was from the class of 1978. she is a dragonologist and looks like maría gabriela de faría.

welp it’s 6:19 am why am i this way but hello it is jane again !! marlene is someone i’ve played a bunch, but it’s been a while since i’ve played with a different history, so i’m still ironing out a few kinks but i’m v v excited!! (also despite what the quote up there may imply, a) i do not like cassandra clare as a person and b) marlene isn’t a vampire fhkjsahjkasfkhj i just like the sentiment of it for her very much)

marls is the same age as the marauders & lily, but she’s a july kid so she’s still to have her birthday —- july 21, 1960 (cancer-leo cusp, and we’re going to pretend that her moon is in sagittarius and her rising is in aries (truthfully i have no idea what her moon & rising would be factually so we’re just... gonna direct the stars fhjksfdhj))

the cusp is excellent for her, because the warring nature of the two signs makes a mess, which is a good description of this lil miss!

POTENTIAL CONNECTION/WANTED CHARACTERS: i would absolutely love her siblings around, any of them. i’m semi-flexible abt the names & fully flexible abt when or how they die (if we’re following canon, my only request is that some die before the 20th of july and nobody survives after it) —- all of her older siblings are adopted. i was thinking tommy (& johnny) were taken in after tragedy struck their parents, who were either sibling or cousin to one of marls’ parents (chants: sean teale! sean teale!), but that’s just an idea. i’m rly open to anything, and i’m down for some to have been biologically full-siblings to marls (preferably matty or lorraine, though) if you have a fitting fc in mind, but otherwise!! i would love any of them, and while i do have some ideas (mostly broad strokes —- johnny as the guidance, lorraine as the beating heart), i’m genuinely just really keen to have any of them around and am super open to talking abt anything that you might want to change!!

youngest of five for most of her life, now scored a kid brother whom she’d do anything for (she thinks) (she hasn’t exactly had to test it) and four elder siblings whom she loves completely and who were instrumental in how she grew up —- surrounded with love and people who protected her even as they challenged her. ( who’s that back there, trailing after tommy and lorraine —? little marlene mckinnon, tiny fists balled up as she marches behind them — where’s she gone now, the little rascal —? oh, up that tree, get down from there, no not by jumping merlin fuck — )

her siblings are all pretty different from each other & johnny was the only one in gryffindor and he’s a completely different kind of gryffindor than marls. whilst both had that same good heart at their core, johnny was noble and brave and an excellent leader, and marlene has always preferred being a second, being there to back someone up (she’s never been good at letting people go in alone) & was something impulsive and daring. between her siblings, she learned how to fight, how to trust, how to land and, possibly most importantly, how to fly

hogwarts shenanigans

marlene was a chaser at hogwarts, but she’s always been a slightly better flier than player. she’s never been particularly focused on getting goals —- her talent and interest was always in setting up the goals, in the daring of diving for the quaffle, in the speed and risk of rocketing across the pitch to get the quaffle to one of her teammates to score. she likes racing to get the quaffle, and setting it up, like the gameplay dynamics of the chasers working in tandem to get the quaffle down to the other end of the pitch. she’s always been fast, that’s the thing about marlene mckinnon: on the ground or in the air, she’s always been quicker than you can believe. quite possibly was the fastest player in the school, but that in no way translates to the best — her personal vote for that is james, though she acknowledges the skill of others such as gwenog jones, lucinda talkalot, ludo bagman and emma vanity for the one year she saw her play. a good player, she thinks, tends to be a little better-rounded, and not only has good instincts, but also good insight, and an ability to both strategise and to take direction. marlene’s flying is often characterised by the risks she’ll take — as well as her creative moves, like the mckinnon flash — and under leadership she disliked, it probably wouldn’t end as well. however, she trusted, respected and loved james, and she was very happy to have him as a captain.

appalling at herbology and potions

in second year, she once had a situation with these magical vines that attacked her, and that pretty much sums up her entire herbology career & then potions is terrible because of the fiasco that is her focus

she managed to scrape a high enough grade to get into it at newt level, thanks purely to her wonderful friends who managed to get her studying on track enough, but then she dropped it in seventh year — she’d kept at it because it’s necessary for a few career paths, and many of her friends, she knew, focused on it because it was a requirement for aurordom, but she had an inkling that aurordom would actually be a poor choice for her, especially given how little she trusted the ministry, and by the time she was starting seventh year, she had decided to drop it (despite her father being a member of the wizengamot & one of her brothers being involved somewhat in the ministry, the trust was.... not present fdshjsdfahjk)

on the other hand, she loved comc

comc, dada and charms were her three best subjects, and she was v good at all three of them

dragons!!! she spent her time in history of magic classes drawing up schematics about how they could obtain dragons, manticores and other xxxxx creatures

she quite liked history of magic, though it’s v selective bc she can only focus on the elements which interest her

she’s got a lot of thoughts on the treatment of lycanthropes by the wizarding society (they’re not positive thoughts lmao bc the treatment of werewolves and other part-humans is so terrible; she has a lot of thoughts about the registration system, and its initial purpose and what it’s used for now, and also beyond werewolves, the treatment of vampires and other part-humans) and she had them prior to her discovery of remus’ “furry little problem” but they’ve certainly not subsided since

general (this is all over the place i’m sorry)

empathetic and it can be a real problem for her honestly?

also, she’s not very good at letting go emotionally? she’s absolutely capable of caring about someone and not endorsing or forgiving them, but she tends to carry people around in her heart and under her skin forever and that’s an immensely difficult thing for her to try shake or even address

bad at processing emotions, like,,, so bad LMAO

she really needs to talk things through to make sense of her emotions but does she? not that often! a good example of this is when johnny died & she didn’t rly process it well bc she considered it her fault & therefore didn’t want to waste people’s time talking abt it which.... marlene pls

a v tactile & physical person, so she’s often shown affection that way (when people are okay with that) but also means that when she wants a distraction, she often craves physical connection (but also like, in hogwarts and stuff, before the war Really Hit her day-to-day life, kissing and sex and the like were just kind of... a fun and good natured end to some shenanigans & she never considered it more than that & it wasn’t even really a distraction, it was just... a natural evolution to some of her nights —- whereas now, sometimes it’s a v genuine distraction) —- sometimes that just looks like sitting w a friend in their kitchen in the quiet of the night, drinking until they can’t see the reflection of people they couldn’t save in each others’ eyes anymore, but sometimes it’s Touch. truly just being in people’s presence, particularly the presence of her friends & people she trusts, just... rly helps her

she’s very much led by emotions, and when those are conflicting, it can be a situation — but she tries, and she has a good heart, and when it comes down to it, she’ll always do what she thinks is right, even if it can be a messy road to getting there

she laughs a lot, idk, she’s not rly one to back down from a fight but her general state of being is probably more quips and laughter

and going off above abt how she’s a pretty physical person — she just always has been, running around the grounds when she was younger, being so involved with quidditch when she was older, and things being tangible are really grounding for her? it’s also sort of how her reflexes work best — she can duel, absolutely, but she’s also pretty good in a physical fight

not v good at defensive or healing magic though so if any of her friends want to help her out w/ that, hmu!! esp if your character wants to get more proficient at physical fighting as well, marls is defs down to help w/ that! i’m hoping like... it’s been a year and a half, i would hope she’s better now at defensive and healing magic, but she’s still never going to be Great so that’s always connections fodder

after graduating, she went into magizoology!! she just... rly fucking loves magical creatures
