2023 SUMMARY OF ART!!

The year is almost over, so to celebrate ill show the history of my art throughout this year!!

As you can see, my art has improved a lot hehe

Under the cut will be the full pieces, along with my thoughts on them (this will be long)

JANUARY

my first art of 2023, i really like it. It shows my improvement. During this time, i was learning to draw more anime-like things. I took great inspiration from shizu (or is it shidu?), the main artist for the kagerou project music videos/light novels. This is marry kozakura in her medusa form.

FEBRUARY

my hiyori obsession started rising. Anyway i like this drawing a lot (in a sense that ive improved much). I had a dialogue playing in my head "goodbye hibiya.." while drawing this for some reason (wow i havent said hibiya in a while..). I think about this one often.

MARCH

ENE!!! This pose is from "INTERNET OVERDOSE" by Aiobahn which i had an obsession over at the time. I didint really have a good coloring style during these times but it does feel good to look back at it sometimes. Ene was really my confort character during this time, i ♡ her

APRIL

As you can tell, this isint finnished. This was supposed to be of my oc kokuta and my bestie raine's oc azalea. There have been changes to kokutas design lol (this is also the first time i did side profile.

MAY

this wasnt finished either lol. This is my girl adachi from adachi and shimamura. I really identify with her so i wanted to try drawing her. It never got finished though, and im sad that it didn't

JUNE

haruka!! my boy haruka!!! He is really important to me and i decided to draw him during this time. The hand is surprisingly good?!! I was trying to learn hands during this time. I still used the blur tool wich, i dont think was the best opinion lol

JULY

this is my original character called Undead Angel. I tried to experiment with different color and shading techniques and materials (i used the watercolor brush) I was also expirimenting with undead's design hehe.

AUGUST

this was my kagerou day drawing (aka august 15th). I was using a new drawing program for this one. I drew actor (or takane enomoto) for this drawing hehe. I like how it turned out tbh

SEPTEMBER

for this drawing, i drew marry kozakura again. I also exprimented with another coloring style for this one 😎. I really love how the pose turned out, as that was what i was trying to focus on.

OCTOBER

this was a drawing of one of my friend's deamon slayer oc aijurou. It was a gift for her but i never got to finish it. I was also trying a different shading, highlighting meathod.

NOVEMBER

my crystal p obsession began, so i tried my hand at drawing the illustration of rb but in my style. I really love this one. I really love how len turned out hehe, i was very unsure of how he would turn out.

DECEMBER

My most recent drawing. This is the version without the effects. I love how i drew the backround and i love how i drew len. I like kaito but he looked kind of off to me 😕. The side profile for len brings me joy i love how i drew him so much. Im going to be proud of this one for a while.

yes go ahead!! Also ik it is hard to access my FAQ from the app but btw this is in my FAQ its very comprehensive because I get this type of ask a lot LOL. dw it’s not annoying though its easy to answer and I’m glad ppl like my art enough to use it and also care abt crediting!! its in my faq not because i dont like to answer but more so u guys dont need to ask LOL

thank you!! I dont see much infinity train content ever either. when i was making infinity train fanart everyday i felt like i was on an island LOL...

honestly I feel like cahiers are decent with posca because theyre not really absorbent and posca marks tend to sit on the page as opposed to soaking through anyways. umm i wouldnt like... use it to do a whole posca piece or anything but i use poscas just for pops of color in my sketchbook pretty often and it holds up ok. sometimes u can see the shadow of the color through the paper bc its thin but thats mostly it. i took pics of some sketchbook pgs and how the back of the page looks so you can see for yourself ( cw for bakudeku LOL ) ...theres a lot of like.. normal brush pen ink and india ink that penetrates the paper more like even compared to the black posca

lol thank you!! idk if i ship(?) them either but its interesting to think about!!! theyre funny characters to bonk together and i feel like most fanart ive seen doesnt address how funny their relationship could be if it were more exploratory i guess

yk that scene is kind of a meme now but it like genuinely still makes me emotional. when colette makes lloyd promise not to tell the others at the end it breaks my heart

I feel like I’ve probably talked about this before in another ask post but i dont really think about style because its one of those things that artists should try to change depending upon intention, what you’re drawing and what you want to communicate etc. what people often recognize as style are quirks that an artist maintains throughout changing their subject and approach.....ANYWAYS. thats all to say my style probably just comes out of normal stuff like looking at other art and thinking “I want to do that” or trying out different mediums and methods and settling with whatever feels the best LOL. It’s always changing & growing! Because I’m always learning new stuff!

Theres a lot! I really like the scene when daisukes lying awake in bed thinking abt how ken’s heartbeat felt. And the scene when they have a sleepover and ken wakes up first and looks over to daisuke sleeping LOL idk subtle stuff you can read very clearly as like burgeoning queer moments.. theyre recognizable from my own queer childhood and i love that in a kids anime. also at the end of the series when theyre fighting the final boss dude and ken grabs daisukes arm to ask him to jogress but hes shivering and daisuke just turns to say “youre shaking....” and in revenge of diaboromon when ken goads daisuke into endurance running by taunting him about soccer LOL (jock romance). but one i rly want to mention is theres this youtube video about how ken and daisuke’s honorifics change over the course of the series and how significant it is when they switch over to first name basis and honestly i think about it a lot THEY HAVE GREAT SCENES!! I love ken and daisuke

wow!! thats rad... the sad truth is its just my name with like a shitton of letters taken out. sometimes i abbreviate it even further as mrz and i think to myself haha ... mister z.

but hello, hi, i am Kaiden-Shenandoah Knapp

also, yes, Kaiden-Shenandoah is my first name. the hyphen is optional, but you still have to type/say the whole thing. no, you may not call me "Kaiden". yes, i am aware it is a mouthful lol

(probably gonna change my surname is "Knapping" in a few years. i wanna distance myself from some shitty family while making the Indigeneity in my surname more apparent. dont be surprised when that happens. im just putting it off bc i got a lot on my plate rn lol)

(also if you knew me as "Kayleen", hi, hello, i no longer go by that childhood nickname. it is retired, wave goodbye, better to have loved and lost and all that)

im really truly grateful for everyone who’s said such nice things about my art recently, cuz this gal has had a rollercoaster of a time on here, and a PRETTY bumpy start with digital art lol. so i wanna take a stroll down memory lane for a second!!

(also i was sorting old art on my laptop and saw these!! ha)

i got so mad at this first one that i quit at the faces!

also i was basically tracing the screencap i based this off of (which is actually a great way to get shapes down!! also blocking and proportions, but using that to go straight into lineart was Not The Best Look here)

but hey!! look at that improvement. an actual style. coloring inside/outside the lines on purpose! HA.

while i definitely have more detailed stuff of sam and dean now, the pose struck out to me when i was going through my old art today! so i had to compare lol

september 2018 vs march 2020

i used to just use a ton of color palettes because i didnt know how colors worked really... which was good practice for like, color tones and stuff, but i rly didnt know how colors worked very well until GENERALLY pretty recently!

this first patience im still content with, her likeness is there but there’s not much style, and i don’t really like the stiff lines anymore

now this!! i tried a new coloring stule and i rly enjoyed it! i also know how to use colors better (maybe???)

at some point i do wanna get back into doing some color palette things again tho! those were really fun

september 2018 vs january 2020

i remember i DEFINITELY traced the one on the right, or tried to. and there look at me trying to blend colors on the left how cute....

these lil wayward drawings are probably some of my favorite!!!

and look at the change, still using a color palette but i THINK i figured out how to use the color to my advantage for the emotion of the pic rather than just. slapping it on (which i sometimes still do lol)

baby’s first sastiel... me just picking out canon moments of them how cute!! also peak how i could not draw sam’s nose right at this point (or cas’ BUT SAM’S POINTY NOSE IS SO IMPORTANT!!!)

this hug.. is probably my favorite thing i’ve drawing recently. i just love them a lot!!!

posing has gotten a lot better . lines too obviously (also the kind of brush helps so so much) also i was gonna color this but i merged the lines with the background like a doofus :/

may 2018 vs march 2020

very very obviously tracing/basing off of a pic?? i think. anyways im filled with good emotions still looking at these cuz this was right when i got back into spn and first fell in love with this tiny nephilim CHILD but also. there is improvement to be had ..... (also used a color palette again here)

again with the halo motif. i’ve always loved a good halo motif. SO let’s get into it. the lines!! with the old one they’re very shaky (understandable. i was v new @ digital art) also extremely stiff. no room to breath

new art! while the lines i used could be considered similar (bold lines all the same color, not much pen pressure) things have changed!

i’ve been using brown for my lines recently, makes it look less harsh sometimies, also here i’ve figured out what works for me with where to put less lines, namely the hair! i got the shape, put down some bangs, but not everything is blocked off by a line between skin / hair

also just. another note. ive figured out how to find good highlights/shadows with colors recently and i just! theyre good and bright and im happy abt it (also light purple??? is a good skin shadow???? fun fact)
