I don't even know what to say to this.

Who told you that it was 'rude' and 'hurtful'? It certainly wasn't me. I don't have a problem with people asking me honest questions that are in good faith. I answer all kinds of asks, regardless of my reaction to them.

I'm sure whoever said that to you meant well, but I don't want anyone putting words in my mouth. Whatever they said to you, that was their own perspective.

As for your ask, it actually did annoy me a bit, but not because there was anything rude or hurtful about it. I was annoyed because it contained things that are long-standing sources of annoyance for me (which isn't your fault).

First of all, you said "I know you don't believe kadian" which - honestly I've heard people say this before and I find it frustrating. I literally have a whole post that is prominently placed on my masterlist post, where I state pretty clearly that kadian is real. So when people say things like this it feels like they aren't paying any attention and are just making assumptions about me, or else they have poor reading comprehension.

I'm going to be really clear about this:

Being skeptical is not the same thing as being dismissive.

I am skeptical about a lot of candy and CPN, but that doesn't mean I don't buy candy and CPN. It just means that the candy and CPN I do buy is stuff I genuinely believe in - not because it's cute or makes me feel good (nothing wrong with that, but it's not what gets me excited), but rather because I've evaluated it and I feel (based on my own criteria) that it's well substantiated and real.

Contrary to another popular myth about me that also frustrates me (the ridiculous idea that I don't buy CPN and candy) - a huge percentage of my blog is devoted to CPN and candy, and in fact I think CPN and candy are pretty critical to turtledom.

I say this all the time and I hope it will sink in: it's never wise to paint with too broad a brush. Nuance, people. Not everything is black and white. Most things are grey. Just because I seem like a doubter on a lot of things, doesn't mean I don't have my own CPN, and doesn't mean I don't hold a lot of candy close to my heart, much of which I think is important and unwashable.

It seems like some people see a personality trait in someone and then try to extrapolate it across everything about them. Not only is it inaccurate, frankly it betrays a certain level of intellectual laziness. "Oh, here's the funny guy, everything's a joke to him." "Oh, here's the serious guy, he has no sense of humor." "Oh, here's the cutesy girl, she won't like this scary movie."

People are complex and often contradictory creatures. We shouldn't assume we have a read on someone just because we've picked up on a few of their character traits.

As for kadian - in my post about kadian I went to some pains to show that kadian is real, so I don't get why there's anyone out there who would think I don't 'believe' in it. In reality I think people who don't 'believe' in kadian as a concept are uninformed and out of touch. 'Not believing' in kadian would be like 'not believing' in slang acronyms like LOL and OMG.

Back to that 'broad brush' thing I just said - just because kadian is real, that doesn't mean a particular perceived kadian is real and intentionally placed. These things have to be examined in context in order to be properly evaluated.

On to the other, bigger reason your ask frustrated me.

Just Say No To The Turtle Binary

Your ask was about a 'kadian' you thought you saw in DD's post about being sick, and you felt it was evidence of a breakup.

Without realizing it, you stepped into something that bugs me about the fandom.

If you've been following me for any amount of time at all, you will know that one of my absolute pet peeves in this fandom is when turtles take everything GG and DD say or do as being deeply significant to their relationship. As I've said before -

👉🏻 almost nothing from or about GG or DD will actually be a candy. 👈🏻

I think the key to respecting and honoring their humanity is to love them as individuals first and foremost, and as a couple second. When we fixate entirely on their relationship we end up accidentally dehumanizing them and failing to recognize, respect and celebrate their individual achievements.

There are a lot of turtles in this fandom who take every single thing GG and DD do as either proof they are together, or else proof they are not together. And frankly, that doesn't make any rational sense.

If you've ever been in a long term relationship - or a relationship of any kind, whether family or friends - you should already know that almost nothing in our daily lives is about that relationship. Our day-to-day lives tend to revolve around work, school, hobbies and interests, other social interests and obligations. Almost nothing we do in our day to day lives is about any one particular relationship.

Just look at my own blog here. How often do I mention my partner? Almost never. But we've been married for years, and he's the most important person in my life. Why don't I mention him more? Because my life doesn't revolve around him.

GG and DD are no different. They are real, non-fictional human beings with busy lives and successful careers, and they have a ton of obligations and focuses and pursuits in their daily lives. Almost none of it is about each other. Why, then, would people be so ready to think that every post, every gesture, every clothing option, every decision, every goal is about each other?

Not only is that absurd just on the face of it, it's also absurd when you consider that the vast majority of things that ARE related to their relationship will never be made public for you and I to see.

Their lives are almost entirely focused on their careers. They work hard, they have packed schedules. They no doubt spend a lot of time connected to each other behind the scenes, via texts, video chat, etc. but most of their time will be taken up with their work, and with meetings and discussions with various handlers and brands and management and other career-related contacts.

It's going to be rare for us to catch a glimpse of something related to each other, because such things are going to be rare in their daily lives and in most cases shared privately.

So I am deeply dismayed when DD can't even call in sick without people assuming a break-up. It's not right. My god, let the man be sick for a day.

When it comes to kadian we need to remember that the context is actually more important than the numbers. What is the likelihood that any particular message is about something to do with their relationship? What is the likelihood that something important is going to be discussed or disclosed in that particular venue or format? What is the likelihood that GG and DD are going to send out key messages about their personal and private relationship in the timing of a Head and Shoulders ad?

DD is in the middle of promoting his new film, which - at the time - was just days away from being released. Can you honestly believe for one hot second that he's going to pick that time - of all the times in the world - to dicker around with cryptic, deeply consequential messages about his relationship? Consider his priorities, here. Consider the context and venue.

And have some empathy for the sick guy who was just trying to quell rumors that were flying about him.

When we evaluate anything they are saying or doing, we should be kind and empathetic about it, and on their side.

There were a lot of anti messages going around when he called in sick that day. People had all sorts of nasty theories about why he called in sick, including a theory that he was trying to generate sympathy to boost ticket sales.

Imagine that. Imagine if calling in sick to work made that big of an impact on your life and reputation? NO PRESSURE.

Like, woah. No wonder the guy never takes any time off anymore. No wonder he pushes through when he's got a sprained ankle or is practically falling over from exhaustion. The man can't take a day off without all hell breaking loose.

I expect that kind of thing from antis, but not from turtles. It's very disappointing.

A final note:

Another important thing I want people to fully understand and accept:

My failure to answer an ask is no commentary whatsoever on what I thought about that ask or about that person.

Anyone who has been following me for any amount of time at all should know that. I answer as many asks that annoy me as I do ones that make me laugh, smile or reflect.

In reality, if I don't answer your ask it's 99.9% of the time for one of these reasons:

I don't have time - I've been incredibly busy lately and have had very little time on Tumblr. Most of that time is spent scrambling to keep up with the content GG and DD and turtles have been releasing/discussing. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that this is pretty much always the reason I haven't answered an ask.

It's something I have already thoroughly covered, which can be found easily by doing even the barest search of my blog or browsing through my masterlist post. Given how little time I have for Tumblr, I'm not likely to spend much of it repeating myself.

It's a complicated question that will take a lot of time to answer, so the question ended up in my drafts folder as I pick away at it over weeks and months. My drafts folder is almost as backlogged as my inbox.

IT WAS NOT A QUESTION. I get quite a few of these. I've said this many times - my inbox is for questions.

Of course, anti BS, hate asks, etc. don't see the light of day, either, but that goes without saying.

If you've asked a question in good faith and it's not been answered, it's for one of the top 3 reasons on the list.

So, Anon, I found your ask frustrating, but I didn't find it 'rude' or 'hurtful'. And even though I found it frustrating, I didn't hold it against you because I know that approach is common among turtles. It's just a fairly standard part of the fandom that - while frustrating - I've more or less accepted as 'the way things are'.

So, no hard feelings. You didn't do anything wrong AFAIAC. I think you might want to do a bit more critical thinking than seems evident based on what you sent me, but you weren't rude or hurtful.

And to be clear, Anon: most of what I'm saying in this post isn't aimed at you. Like I said, I have a bit of a chip on my shoulder about a couple of things, and you were unfortunate enough to accidentally stumble across it. I definitely don't hold anything against you.

I saw a tweet that Gong Jun openly stated one time that he does kadian. Is it true? I wanna see that so badly hahahah

I seem to recall this actually... But I can't remember where or when lol. My folders are too BIG.

He did admit that he pays attention to their lld cp supertopic (ZZH called him out on it during happy camp). And they both know about the kadian for sure since it's used to advertise for their products I believe.

09-11 → #WordofHonor continued to trend on Twitter.

→ Slander from Wu Lei/Zhao Lusi fans continued (see the end of 09-06 in the previous week’s post for context). Mods from both of their solo supertopics stated that the actions and views seen in the CPF supertopic do not reflect their own nor the actors; Wu Lei’s solo fans said that they had informed Zhao Lusi’s studio about what was happening and had urged her to say something, and Zhao Lusi’s solo mods said they had disowned the CPF mods a month ago for being antis.

→ Possible hexagon ring sighting from Fox Spirit Matchmaker’s filming. A hashtag about Gong Jun’s costume got on hotsearch.

→ Another actor, Li Yifeng, was detained for soliciting sex workers, with police saying this was discovered while they were investigating another crime. This caused a ripple effect over the next few days of other celebrities and their studios being very careful and more quiet than usual. At the time of this post, Li Yifeng’s endorsements have terminated their contracts and his social media accounts were closed on 09-15, nothing has happened yet to his body of work; CAPA have yet to release any statement about him, the hypocrites. Fan Observation: Solicitation of sex workers is not enough on its own for Weibo account suspension, as the account of another celebrity who did the same is still up. This supports suspicions that he is being suspected of something else as well. 

09-12 → Fox Spirit Matchmaker’s Weibo posted two photos for the lead actress Yang Mi’s birthday, one of which included Gong Jun in costume.

09-13 → 361° posted a photo ad featuring Gong Jun.

→ The Instagram posted audio of a “new song”, saying that a music video is coming soon.

→ QuelleVous posted that Lao Ahyi likely was involved in the editing the of the Nogi Shrine and Dewi Sukarno Baidu pages on 21-08-12. She claimed to have reported the users who edited them at the end of August, but there is no record of her doing so.

09-14 → QuelleVous posted an exposé about the user who edited Xie Yihua’s Baidu page on 813, whose editing history is not publicly visible. They are currently employed at Baidu as a project manager. Followups: [1] [2]

Bluebird followed this with a handy summary of Xie Yihua’s actions and involvement against Zhang Zhehan.

→ Kangshifu posted an illustrated ad featuring Gong Jun. 

09-15 → #LoveGongJun trended on Twitter.

→ QuelleVous posted that the “bye bye” left on Zhang Zhehan’s QQ Music account on 21-08-15—what many believed to have been our last message from him—was posted by Xie Yihua. 

→ Rising with the Wind’s Weibo posted one of the posters for the show along with the cast list. Shortly after, they posted the first trailer [subbed video] (11:05, 511 kadian, almost definitely a coincidence) followed by nine stills, two of which feature Gong Jun, followed by another three, two of which feature Gong Jun.

→ Gong Jun reposted a post by Ester Yu promoting a guest appearance of hers. (11:11, 511 kadian with the date) His added caption: “Call Beauty Yu! Watch ‘A Little Forest for Two’ tonight 😎” Ester Yu replied with the comment, “Thank you handsome guy for supporting!! Looking forward to Rising With The Wind!!” The two met during a joint guest appearance on Go Fridge! at the end of June 2021, and Ester Yu starred in the recent drama Love Between Fairy and Devil. 

→ Gong Jun posted the trailer for Rising with the Wind. (11:17, 511 kadian, switch the hour and minute places) Caption: “Let everyone in the bureau win a victory, this is the confidence of investor Xu Si.” His studio reposted this with the added caption, “Turn against the wind to create a win-win situation. Profession and self-confidence are the strengths of Mr. Xu”

→ Rising with the Wind’s producer posted two additional stills featuring Gong Jun.

→ #GongJun trended on Twitter.

→ iQiyi’s promotional Douyin posted a short video of Gong Jun in costume for Fox Spirit Matchmaker.

→ Gong Jun posted on Weibo, “The invitation letter has been recieved, ready to go to the trendy space with @Louis Vuitton. Make an appointment for the live broadcast at 18:00 on September 16th to enjoy #LVAranyaMen's Fashion Show#!” (16:04, 1640 kadian)

→ Li Ronghao posted a douyin of himself listening to Gong Jun’s part in the song Flowers. Gong Jun commented, “Ge, compliments to the BGM!” (19:51, 511 kadian)

→ Gong Jun’s studio posted three photos of him in front of a sunset. Caption: “Boss @ Gong Jun Simon arrives at the picture” (19:20, 51129 kadian with the date) The same photos were also posted to his Instagram, caption: “The trip here made my head dizzy 😂” (20:11, 51129 kadian with the date), and his Xiao Hong Shu, caption: “Travelled for 12 hours, my head is dizzy, I've finally arrived... ” (20:07, 51129 kadian with the date if you add the 12 to the minutes) [quoted translations] Fan Observations:  -  He’s wearing a blue mask in the photos.  -  Every single post he made this day included possible kadians.  -  Gong Jun was supposed to fly from Yiwu to Beijing but cancelled his flight, instead travelling by train and ending in Tianjin where he had a photoshoot. Because of the two above points, there is Speculation™ from fans which some have already dubbed the One Night in Tianjin.

09-16 → Gong Jun continued trending on Twitter.

→ Kangshifu posted an illustrated ad featuring Gong Jun.

→ BEAST posted a promotional video spoken by Gong Jun. (1129 kadian)

→ Hsu Fu Chi posted a photo ad featuring Gong Jun.

→ One of Xie Yihua’s main Weibo accounts 花盆向阳—used to disseminate higher quality pictures of those posted to the Instagram—was deactivated.

→ Gong Jun attended the Louis Vuitton Aranya show. Several related tags got on Weibo hotsearch, and Weibo analytics shows that he was the most talked about celebrity present at the event. [video interview]

→ Gong Jun’s studio posted a video of him from a photoshoot that was cancelled the previous night due to fans stalking him. Caption: “A night tour diary of boss @ Gong Jun Simon~ The pictures were not taken last night, first use the video to engrave the beautiful moments of the night!” This was also posted to his studio Douyin, caption: “The beautiful moment with boss Gong Jun Simon is engraved, see you tonight!”

→ Kangshifu posted three illustrated ads featuring Gong Jun.

→ Gong Jun’s studio posted twelve photos of him from the show. Caption: “The sea breeze is gentle, and the tie-dye embellishment is used to interpret the new attitude of fashion with color and imagination. Explore the world of innocence with boss @ Gong Jun Simon, and start a fantasy journey” 

His studio later posted a video from the show. Caption: “Boss @ Gong Jun Simon casually travels to explore the fun of children, I will see you in a moment 😎” This was also posted to his studio Douyin, caption: “The wind is blowing by the seaside, feel the cozy moment, boss @ Gong Jun Simon feels the tranquility of the autumn afternoon, and starts a fun journey!“

They later posted a douyin of him watching the show. Caption: “Boss @ Gong Jun Simon's yearning for new clothes is written on his face (and hands)” The suit in this video is what he said he was most excited to see, and the woman sitting next to him is Louis Vuitton’s head of PR.

→ Gong Jun did not attend the after party, instead flying to Beijing.

Addition 09-19: Watsons posted a promotional video spoken by Gong Jun for a collaboration with Colgate.

Hi there! A question, I'm kinda new to the Word of Honor fandom, and I've seen the acronym "CP fans" or "CPF" being thrown around when talking about ZZH and GJ, but I'm absolutely lost as to what it means (also english is not my native language so it might be because of that?) do you you what it means and if so, could you tell me?? thank you in advance!!

Hi! No problem, here are some primers for terms on this blog:

CP: "Couple" - A couple usually in a fictionalized romance in a show or movie. I.e. The CP of Word of Honor is Wen Kexing and Zhou Zishu (WenZhou). The IRL CP is Gong Jun and Zhang Zhehan (JunZhe)

JunZhe / LLD: Langlangding refers to the ship of Gong Jun and Zhang Zhehan

CPF: CP fan - couple fan, they're basically fans who ship the actors as real couples.

Candy: an unconfirmed tidbit of a happening between the CP. It could be a photo, audio clip, rumor, story, observation, or kadian.

Kadian: a numerical code used as shorthand to communicate a message. This is often used on 5/20, May 20, because in Mandarin it sounds like I love you. These common shorthand codes may be similar to English acronyms, which are letters that stand for a specific phrase. For example, LASER actually stands for "light amplification by the stimulated emission of radiation.”

Kadian is often used in time stamps because it's convenient and easy. Many companies use kadian like 51129 to advertise products to the JunZhe/WOH/SHL fandom. 5/11 = ZZH's birthday. 11/29 = GJ's birthday.

Both of the teams were badly affected.

For the first team, Meaj blames herself for what happened, she can’t get over the fact they lost Peapaw. That’s not what she wished for even thought their disagreement and her ruthless behavior. There’s still a good and caring heart within her.

As for Val, he tries to cheer up her sister, yet this is a quite difficult situation to bear even for him. He became pretty stressed out after the loss of Peapaw and Teyori…

Teyori went missing on Vow before Peapaw has been turned into a masked. Their team tried to reach her but their efforts were unsuccessful. She wasn’t responding to her walkie-talkie and they couldn’t tell if she was still alive on the ship’s monitor.

For the second team, Shefford is the most affected out of everyone. He saw what happened to Willow from a distance and he was unable to do anything to help him get out of this bloody situation. He cannot stand what happened. He fears to lost somebody else on their team.

Bryan became way more serious and he never been that rude and tensed up like that. He’s on the rack…

Kadian completely lost his smile. He’s rather quiet than he normally is. He barely eats and sleeps, therefore he usually stays in the ship during their missions, opening doors, deactivating turrets and sending urgent messages.
