Kate kissed her, like her life depended on it and perhaps it did. Because there was something far more powerful than the entity itself and it was flowing in her veins.

She fluttered her eyes open as she slightly pulled away. Cheryl tried to reclaim her lips but that was when Kate's grip grew tighter around her and the girl whispered breathlessly, "Cheryl, you're glowing."

Cheryl paused, her eyebrows knitting with confusion before she looked at herself. Her eyes grew wide with bewilderment and Kate's stomach twisted as she felt the way Cheryl tried to detach herself from the singer.

"No," Kate said firmly, her hands dragging to the veteran of terror's wrists and yanking her into a secure hug. "No, Cheryl."

"Kate, I don’t want to hurt you," Cheryl gasped out worriedly, trying to wriggle away from her.

"I don't care."

"Kate-"

"Cheryl, I'm not letting you go."

"But what if-"

"Cheryl."

"Kate."

"Kate?"

The singer jumped slightly, peering around the generator to see the fourth survivor of the trial.

"Cheryl," Kate's heart skipped a beat and suddenly her mouth had gone dry.

"Hey there cowgirl," The young woman greeted, the edge of her lip pulling upwards. It was a small smile, a little shy, small and the slightest bit hesitant, but comforting all the same.

Kate swallowed and for a moment her mind blanked. There were a few seconds where her anxiety and fear washed away to be replaced by a sense of awe and relief.

She had been pining for Cheryl for a while now. Quietly yearning for and appreciating her from afar. Admiration burning holes in her, making her fingertips buzz and her heart flutter at every small exchange she had with the girl.

Kate hated herself for her feelings but she couldn’t repress them. Not when they were all stuck in some hell and Kate's affections offered a sort of remedy to the constant negative feelings that surrounded her.

"Cheryl," Kate flushed, knowing she repeated herself and found the strength to pull her gaze away and focus on the generator. She'd rather not mess up now when the trial, for the most part, had been going smoothly. Kate mumbled, abashed, "Hi."

She could feel Cheryl's gaze on her, practically warming her skin with her eyes, heat flooding every inch of her body. Her lips pulled into an awkward smile and she felt stupider at every infatuated heartbeat in her chest.

God, Kate was obvious.

And yet, Cheryl hadn't said anything.

Kate knew the veteran of terror was naturally a silent type anyways. Cheryl could speak her mind when needed to but there was a somber energy to her.

Cheryl worked well with others but Kate was aware of how Cheryl purposefully separated herself sometimes. As if she was afraid to get too close.

Kate, normally, was one who didn't push boundaries or did anything to make others uncomfortable.

But Kate had never wanted to be so close to someone until Cheryl came along.

She wanted to be the one who got close.

The one to see the girl behind the barriers she put up for herself to protect herself from the world around her.

Kate wanted to know her and fall in love with her more.

Is Chapter 13 of Love By Daylight my new favorite? YOU BET YOUR ASS IT IS! I am so deeply in love with Kate Denson and Cheryl Mason, and their relationship together 😭❤(And their friendships with the others~~) I'm really eager to read the future chapters when they come out and see how the rest of the story develops~

This fic hurt me, but it's good, so I'm sharing it. It's a one-chapter Kate Denson/Cheryl Mason AU fic, that's angsty, and has no happy ending but it does leave the ending open so you can imagine an outcome in which everything turns out fine.

Summary:

She didn’t even remember the dream fully. Only flashes, remnants of scenes playing out.

There was some kind of creature, with long black claws spilling out towards her.

Blood spilling everywhere, were people being sacrificed?

But then there was a campfire, and a girl with blond bangs and sad eyes looking directly at Kate.

I imagine Kate's the type to make sure Cheryl is her first and last girlfriend with clear intentions of marrying her even early in their relationship

Cheryl is incredibly flustered everytime Kate makes comments concerning marriage and she's basically puddy at every implication. And while Cheryl adores the idea, she gets anxious when she thinks about their future together due to her Silent Hill trauma

Kate, of course, can sense her girlfriend's anxiety and she's willing to go at a pace Cheryl is comfortable with, clarifying that even though Kate talks about it frequently, she doesn't want to rush or scare Cheryl and is willing to wait as long as it takes till Cheryl is ready
