Request - by @cleverpapersharksalad: “Can you do an imagine about JJ writing the reader letters about how he feels about her with no intention to show her and one day somehow she finds them and they become a couple?”
A/N: This is pure fluff right here, seriously. It also is giving me to all the boys I’ve loved before vibes and I’m totally here for it. I know the request says that it was a letter, but I saw a post somewhere that said that JJ liked to draw and was actually good at it, So I kinda threw that in there? If you want me to re-write. I can haha. This is so different from my other writings so I hope y’all enjoy it:)
Not many people knew that JJ had a way with paper and pencil. It wasn’t uncommon around the cut, gave them all something to do during the rainy days. Writing, drawing, and reading was something that many of them picked up when the weather was too bad to go out. JJ was no exception. One of the things that he carried in his backpack was a sketchbook, it was old as time really, he had it for years. One day he was out on the hammock, he had it out in his lap as the rest of the pogues talked.
John B and Sarah sat in a chair, Kie and pope on the other hammock, while I was sat on the opposite side of the hammock as JJ. “Okay this has to be the hottest summer ever,” Sarah said, dramatically laying out.
“I second that” Pope said wiping sweat from his forehead.
“What about a quick boat trip and a swim?” Kie suggested. We all looked out over the marsh behind us. The grey forming cloud looking to only be moving forward. “Nevermind that,” Kie said, making us all chuckle a bit.
JJ had not looked up from his sketchbook. “What are you working on over there?” I said tapping his leg with my foot. JJ’s sketches always took my breath away. He would never admit it, but they had so much emotion in them. The lines and way it all came together was beautiful. Once, back when we all kinda tried in school, he had done a piece for art class, it was a portrait of John B made up with lines and colors, behind it was a letter, vaguely recalling how they met and his favorite memories. I teared up when he showed it to me. The painting was wonderful, but the words behind it were powerful. Of course, JJ being JJ said that it was nothing and just a dumb assignment, he needed the easy A. We all know JJ doesn’t care that much about his grades.
He turned the book to show us the page, it was the dock down the yard from where we were sitting.  “Just a little sketch of the dock, ya know? Keeping my hands busy, with Y/N here so close.” He joked. JJ’s comment didn’t really throw me off, not anymore. JJ was flirty with everyone. He used to be that way with Kie, then the whole Pope and Kie thing started, and Pope got as territorial as he could for Pope. JJ respected him, so he stopped. Leaving me, the sole contender for JJ’s terrible pickup lines and borderline creepy innuendos. Not that I minded.
“That’s really good JJ,” Sarah said. She was still learning about the pogues and all the little things about us all, beyond the surface level everyone saw.
It wasn’t long before the rain started to drizzle down of us and we ran for cover into the house. On the way into the house, JJ tripped up the stairs, causing him to drop his sketchbook and pencil on the ground. I picked it up and turned it over. I was about to close it when I realized what it was. I opened the book so I could see both the pages. On the right side was a photo of me, it looked like he had drawn it on the boat, my hair was flowing out to the side, the lighting in the sketch really did me justice. It was in the same line heavy style that the portrait of JB had been in. I looked up at JJ, who looked frozen in his spot. His hand went to his neck, he couldn’t believe that of all the pages in that old sketchbook, it was that page that fell open. The other pogues had gone inside, still bickering over something small. I looked back down over the sketchbook, the rest of both pages were scribbly, messy written words, strung together in sentences. Tears pricked my eyes. I looked at JJ once more. He was still scratching the back of his neck, his gaze stuck on the floor.
“Do you mind if I read this?” I ask quietly.
He just slowly nodded his head and mumbled a “go ahead.”
I looked down at the letter once more. One big clump of text, waiting to be read. I started at the top.
“Y/n. I hope you never see this because I would probably die if you did. I don’t know how to talk about my feelings. I’m never good at it unless it just us. You bring out a softer side in me. When I’m with you I want to be better. I know you deserve better, and you have helped me work toward that. Every time I get into with my dad or a kook I know you’ll be there for me, always. You’ve taken care of me like no one ever has before. I think that’s why I have fallen so hard for you. Not that I would tell you. No pogue on pogue macking.” I laughed slightly thinking about Kie and Pope. “You have made me a better person. You’re beautiful, and I’m not just talking about the way you look, but that too. I guess what I’m trying to say is…” the in larger letters, trailing down the right side beside the portrait in bold scratched letters, “I think I might be in love with you?” I hadn’t realized the tears that fell from my face. JJ had never been this vulnerable before. I was surprised that he even let me read it. I looked up at JJ. The other pogues had quieted down inside, wondering what was happening on the porch.
“J” I stepped closer handing the book back to him. “That was beautiful.” My voice was quiet, barely over a whisper. I swallowed as he took the book back and started to walk past me to the door.
I grabbed onto his wrist, pulling him back to me. We were so close that I could feel his breath on my face. I looked into his eyes, as his eyes flashed between my eyes and my lips. I nodded slightly and before I knew it his lips were on mine. It was not like another kiss I had ever had. I heard JJ drop the sketchbook and I felt his hands on my waist pulling me even closer. One of my hands resting on his shoulder the other resting on his jaw. The kiss was sweet, it was soft. The emotions that we both had been bottling coming out at that moment. He tasted like mint and smoke, something that I could get used to.
“Umm guys” I heard Pope’s voice from inside muffled by the door. Then a few small gasps followed by a laugh or two.
JJ and I pulled away from one another out foreheads resting against each other. JJ moved one hand to wipe my still wet cheeks. “I think I’m in love with you too.”

THIS IS MY WORK! PLEASE DO NOT COPY OR REPOST ON OTHER SITES/APPS!!!!
Warnings: +18, smut, fingering, hand job, sex in bathroom, language, jealousy, fighting, arguing.
Y/n and Sarah sat quietly on Kie's bed as they waited for Kiara to stop degrading the lavender dress she wore while standing in her large mirror. Mrs. Carrera coming through the door to make sure the girls were all dressed. "This is disgusting."
"I know it's just horrible."
"I'm asking you guys to just relax and go to a fun party."
"I look like a bourgeoisie pig."
"I think you look beautiful," y/n said while shrugging at Kie. She just gave a smile back to her, still hating the look no matter what compliments were given.
"Will you please not worry about socioeconomic injustice for one night?"
"Mom, people not three miles from her have no power, no running water, and we're going to Midsummers."
"That's so tone deaf."
"Y/n," the mother scolded at her niece. "Do you know how hard we had to work to get into the Island club?"
"Yeah, mom. How could I forget? You had to grovel for, like, ten years--"
"Twelve years, and we also had to cough up a huge chunk of dough-"
"To keep up with the Joneses-"
"No, so you had the same experiences that I had as a child."
"But weren't parents as teens out, like partying, getting drunk, making out in the backseats of their cars at drive in movies," the cousin listed while putting her things in its bag. "Getting pregnant."
"That doesn't sound fun," Sarah added.
"Do you girls even know what the Island club is?"
"A factory farm."
"For debutantes," Y/n raised her eyebrows.
"It's a nice place, with nice people where you can do fun stuff."
"With out-of-touch rich people, while the island sinks slowly into the ocean."
"Water filling the poor's destructive lungs while the wealthy ones get away on million dollar boats."
Sarah sat quietly laughing on the comfy blanketed mattress. Mr. Cerrera sighed, saying one last thing before walking out. "Okay, I want you to put on your party face, girls, if you want to live."
"Did your mom just threaten to kill us?"
"Maybe. I think so," she nods as she turned around to the duo, fixing the flower crown that sat on her cousin's head. "You nervous to see Rafe."
"Why did you have to bring that up?"
"I was curious. I know it's only been two days, but-"
"Hey, he broke up with me. So if he wants to talk, that's in his duty. Not mine. I did nothing wrong."
Sarah got off the bed, swinging on it's pole. "Except flirt with JJ, or so he says."
"I was not...flirting with JJ. He has a crush on Kiara. I'd never."
"But Rafe doesn't know that."
°°°°
*flashback*
"What if she doesn't like it?"
"She'll love it. She's hippie."
Y/n and JJ sat on John B's porch, smoking a blunt. The girl was trying to help him do something nice for Kiara so JJ could ask her out without feeling weird. He's liked her for the longest and he was finally ready to tell her how she feels.
"Alright, now practice what you're gonna say."
Just as Y/n finished saying the statement, her own boyfriend, Rafe Cameron showed up. Standing behind them listening in.
"Okay, uh, hey I have to tell you something...uh important," the blonde began speaking, using hand gestures because of his nerves. "I really really like you. Like not like friends like, but I have feelings, uhm, strong feelings for you. Because you're like super hot, andnyou're like a really cool chick. So I was wondering if maybe you'd wanna...go out with me."
"Yes, t-"
"What the hell!"
The manly unknown voice shocked them both, their figures jumping at the sound because they thought they were alone.
"Rafe, what're you doing here?"
Y/n asked confusedly as she stood from the steps. The Kook just scoffed and walked back out. Ignoring her question. She shared a glance with JJ before going to follow after him.
"Hey! Where you going? What's wrong?"
"A pogue!? Y/n, seriously?!"
"What're you talking about?"
"You're cheating on me with a pogue?" He shouted. Y/n scrunched her eyebrows, looking at the unnecessary upset individual.
"What do you mean cheating? I'm not cheating on you. We were just talking."
"Bullshit. That's bullshit! I heard it all."
"Rafe, it's not like that. Jj was just-"
"I should've known better. I should've known," he fumed. His right foot swung to kick the dirt near his truck that he was so very close to getting into.
"Known what?"
"I should've never trusted a pogue. I knew something like this was gonna happen. You were just gonna throw me away like Sarah did, Topper. Right? Huh?"
"You sound ridiculous. I was never throwing you away. I was helping him out."
"Yeah, while you're at it. Might as well help sleep with him too."
Y/n scoffed, taking a step back from the angered boy who's brain had just functioned what he said. Part of him regretted it very much. But the other part thought you deserved it because of his cheating accusation.
He opened his vehicle door. Stepping one foot inside. "We're done."
The girl just laughed with held tears reaching for the openess. She turned around to head back inside as Rafe just drove off.
°°°°
"Hey, no tearing up today. Go to this stupid thing and show him that his little cheating accusation act didn't hurt you at all. You're stronger than that."
"Thanks, Kie."
The girls finished up their last minute touches. That includes sweeping their dresses with roller for no hair, any makeup redos, or hair finishes. The ride to the country club was quiet. Well, y/n was quiet.
This would be her first time seeing Rafe since their break up a three days ago. They've been doing everything in their mighty to avoid each other. And it definitely worked. But like her friend told her, she wasn't gonna get worked up. Letting Rafe see her weak was like telling him he was right about everything. But he wasn't.
"Jesus, Kook land."
"I forgot how packed this thing is every year."
"Well, let's go. I gotta walk out with my family."
The Cameron family walked out with their heads high and the Kook crowd cheered for each one. Y/n kept her eyes gazed to Kiara since they were in the middle of a conversation. Not caring if that family came in or not. That excludes Sarah.
Rafe watched from his spot by his dad, as they exited to outside. Breath hitched when he saw Y/n and her dress. It was a dark toned red, had tulle, and a revealing  chest opening.
A red flower crown on her head, complimenting her beautiful down hair. She looked amazing and hot to Rafe. He had to clear his throat before excusing himself.
"Hey," the red dresses girl heard from beside her as a hand landed on her lower back. She removed it before her eyes retracted to theirs. Kie just pursed her lips before leaving to hangout with Sarah. Y/n internally screaming that she left her there.
"What do you want?"
"Uh, you look nice."
"Okay. Thanks. You don't too. What do you want?"
"Nothing. Just saying hi."
"Bye."
"Wait, wait, wait. Why are you mad at me? Shouldn't I be the mad one here?"
"Why?"
"Because of what you did," he said with furrowed eyebrows. Y/n shrugged.
"I didn't do anything."
"Do- do you not remember what happened on the cut three days ago? The fight."
"You slut shaming me and accusing me of cheating with JJ. That? Yeah, I remember that."
"Accused? I heard you."
"Heard what exactly?"
"JJ, was telling you he liked you and thought you were a cool hippie chick, which you are not. You're not hippie. And then he asked you out and you said yes. As soon as I walked in."
Y/n stared at him blankly. Before bursting out laughing. A few guests behind them staring with a look that showed they weren't used to loud talkers or laugher. "Oh my god. You thought? Jesus that's absolutely hilarious."
"What is?"
"That you think- you think that JJ was confessing feelings to me. Whew that's rich."
"I heard it, Y/n."
"He wasn't confessing anything to me you shit head. He was practicing for when he asked out Kiara."
Rafe was confused. Majorly. Inside and out. "But she-"
"He likes Kiara. And she's my cousin. You think I'd really hurt anyone like that? How low of me do you think? Have fun at this party."
Y/n walked off to go look for her disappeared friends. Not wanting to spend another second in a spot with someone who was so rude over something he knew nothing about. Just assumed. Never asked.
As she walked down the corridors of the porch that many people stood on drinking, a hand grabbed her shoulder, turning her around. Her eyes fixated on the blonde in a black tux and a bow tie.
"Holy shit, JJ. You scared me. What're you doing here?" She asked as she hugged him.
"Well, Sarah somehow convinced her dad to let me in tonight to hangout with Kie."
"Have you seen her?"
"I was just looking for her myself. C'mon. She's probably inside."
She grabbed his hand. Pulling him inside. They found Kie just minutes later with Pope. He was working the grill with his dad. Sarah was getting raided by Topper about their own stupid shit. Y/n decided to go get herself a drink and maybe find someone to dance with.
The straw rested on her lips as she stood against the porch railing. Gazing over all the people who say around laughing, probably bragging about their money, summer vacations, their older kids getting into a good college. Typical kook things.
Her eyes focused on a specific couple talking off to the side. Her eyes burning a whole in the back of Rafe's head as he tried to flirt up a storm with some Kook she didn't know whatsoever.
Her body was fuming. Was Rafe really gonna sit in front of her and flirt with a whole other girl that isn't her. Just a few days after their breakup. It's like he's trying to play victim. And she's had it.
"Hey, Sancho. Lassie."
The brunette Rafe was talking up a storm to laughed. "I'm sorry who are you?"
"Oh, you gonna introduce me to your side piece here?"
"Would you stop? We're just talking."
"Talking? Yeah, okay," Y/n laughed. The girl just looked at her dazed. "Hi, I'm his girlfriend. Y/n. And you, yeah you're excused."
Rafe was truly enjoying this scene. Internally rooting for Y/n. He wasn't gonna object to that fact that she called herself his girlfriend. Because now that he knew the truth, it changed his perspective.
"Who do you think you are?"
"I already told you. Wh- can you not hear correctly?"
"He said he was single so, why-"
"He lied. So, you can go away now- Rafe. Let's go. We need to talk."
"What're you his mother now?" The rando questioned. Y/n turned to her and gripped her face.
"If you wanna keep these teeth, then I suggest you stop talking. Go find somebody else's boyfriend to mack on."
She dragged Rafe by his hand into the upstairs private bathroom. Locking the door behind her. "What're you doing?"
"Just having a friendly conversation. There a problem?"
"You were flirting, Rafe. That was flirting," she paced. Hand against her for head.
"Like you're any better. You lied to me."
"I've never lied about anything."
"You said JJ liked Kiara."
"Yeah. He does."
"Then why is he holding your hand, hugging you, and leaving inside with you instead of the girl he supposedly likes," Rafe argued. Gripping onto the large counter.
"Rafe, I grabbed his hand and brought him inside to find Kiara. And I hugged him because I was happy for my friend. God, Rafe how many times do I have to tell you that I am not cheating on you."
"It's kind of hard to believe that shit when I keep seeing things with my own eyes."
"Then stop assuming and come ask me. Jesus, do you not trust me or something. Because I trust you. Anytime I hear that you're at a party doing lines with hot blonde's next to you, I brush it off because I know you'd never. Why can't you just do that for me."
Rafe stood from his seat. Pinching the bridge of nose. The guilty conscience grazed through his mind as he listened to her words. He had issues with trust and with others, but he knew it wasn't a reason to take it out on the only person who's loved him for him.
"I'm sorry. Okay? I'm sorry. You're right. I should trust you. Just like you trust me. I'll work on it. I promise."
"Don't promise me that. Just show me that you love me just as much."
The words clicked. He did love her. And he cared about her. More than anyone in this world. And he wanted to show her. In the most physical way possible.
"C'mere."
"Why?"
"Just c'mere," he repeated as he grabbed her by her waist, pulling her closer to him. She stumbled, but Rafe's grip kept her in place. He moved his face closer to hers, lips almost touching as they grazed against each other.
He used the hand placed on her waist to grip the fabric of her dress. Pulling it upwards. Her breath hitched as he hand snaked under the red tulle and right onto her now soaking core. His pointy finger swept across the waistband of her panties.
Y/n wasn't expecting this as the outcome from their miniature argument but she wasn't complaining. And neither was Rafe.
He pushed her underwear down as much as he could from their position, before going back to her walls and making circular motions. Rafe finally closer the space, kissing her lips practically roughly as he continued rubbing her.
He kept a firm hand on her waist to make sure she had a gripping support if he legs gave out, which they indeed will. The motions stopped as Y/n pulled her lips away from his. Rafe stared at her daring eyes, questioning if she wanted his to continue.
"Put them inside me," she whispered. The Cameron smirked before obliging to her demand. He stuck to fingers into her wet cunt. A soft moan escaped her lips as he did so. Pumping them in and out of her. Y/n rubbed her hand against the erection in his dress pants.
"You like that, yeah?"
She nodded as the locked her lips. Not being able to speak because knowing if she did, she let out a loud moan and even at this club would hear.
She unbuckled his pants, putting her handninside to grip his penis and pump it as he slipped his tongue into her mouth. The hand he held to her waist was now gripped on her neck, gently. Y/n clenched around his fingers. Feeling her high come close. "Dont stop."
Rafe began pumping faster just as Y/n did so. The teens were so horny that they were both already reaching their extent. Rafe's shaft twitched in her hand. "I'm cumming."
"Do it for me."
That's all it took for Y/n to finish. And Rafe too. His liquids filling her hands as they both let out moans due to their intense actions. In one swift motion, Rafe snaked a hand around Y/n's waist turning then so she was against the counter. Her pulled the straps of her dress of her shoulders, leaving kisses as he did so before connecting his lips to hers.
Her pulled his tuxedo jacket off him. Snapping the bowtie off as well. Y/n moaned at the tluchnof his hands on her breast. Massaging them in his hands over the fabric of her strapless bra.
Y/n unbuttoned the spots on his shirt before pulling it off his shoulders and onto the floor. Rafe stop his gripping motions and pulled down his pants and boxers. He sat her up on the counter. Her bare ass connecting to the coldness of the marble designed setting.
Rafe rubbed his tip against her fold once or twice before pushing himself into her. Not giving a warning, but Y/n loved the suddeness. Y/n let a moan into his next as he began thrusting his hips. The girl gripping her black painted nails into his back.
Rafe's eyes rolled to the back of his head. Enjoying the feelings of Y/n's cunt wrapped around him.
"You like that?"
"Yes, god yes."
Y/n sat up, wrapping her arms around his neck. Each moan and huff she exposed in his earn make his whole body shiver. Rafe let out a grunt before answering. She clenched her walls around his dick. The dirty blonde groaned slamming into her body. "Do it again."
She did so. Clenching around around the boy as he slammed into her again. This time, hitting the spot that made her whole body go insane. "Tell me I'm yours."
"You're mine."
A moan escaped her lips after he said what she had wanted. Her hand smacked down onto the edge of the sinks counter. Grilling onto it for dear life. "Tell me it again."
The feeling of her finishing was fastly approaching. As well as for Rafe. The moans she let out made his go over the edge as he fucked her hard. "Tell me, Rafe."
"You're fucking mine, ah-"
Each of them let out a loud moan as they finished. Covering each others mouths. There shouldn't be anyone upstairs but for precautions they covered either way.
Rafe's head fell forward onto her chest. Taking large breaths as y/n did too. "Shit, y/n."
The Cameron pulled out of her. Helping her get redressed and cleaned just after he did himself.
"You're still on the pill right?" He asked as he zipped his pants.
"Yeah. It's fine," she smiled up at his 6'4 figure. Rafe reached down to kiss her passionately.
"I love you, Y/n."
"I love you, too."

JJ MAYBANK | SEPTEMBER

Warnings: underage drinking, cursing, SLIGHT angst & fluff
A/N: I don’t know how this happened but I’m just rolling with it because I love that song and needed to make another JJ imagine. FEEL FREE TO SEND REQUESTS, TOO!
Tumblr media
[not my gif]
You didn’t want to go to the party. There was only one week of school before fall break — a week of complete relaxation and not a single assignment to occupy your time — but you needed to focus on your remaining assignments in order to make sure you were still passing all of your classes. Your parents were expecting nothing but perfection from you and you didn’t want to let them down.
They already disapproved of your friends. You didn’t want to give them any more reason to despise you.
One of your close friends, Kiara Cerrera, or simply Kie, had tried to convince you to go to the boneyard for a kegger to ease your nerves, but you were deep in homework and couldn’t afford to stop now.
That was almost two hours ago and it was nearing midnight. Your parents were fast asleep in their bedroom down the hall, but you were wide awake with your homework spread out around you on the floor. Your mind was desperately begging you to take a break, to rest and relax so you didn’t go into overload, but you’d made it this far — you couldn’t stop now.
Faint music softly played from your phone that was carelessly tossed on your bed, your ears tuning out any chime that came from it to avoid getting distracted by your concerned friends. You promised Kie you were fine and would stop at a reasonable time, but you should’ve known better than to believe she wouldn’t express her concerns to your friends.
After a while, you heard a light tap on your window. You frowned, eyes growing wide. You’d seen enough horror movies than to know better than to look. There was no way you were going to open your window so late at night.
You gulped and stood up, cautiously sitting on the edge of your bed. The tap came again.
You nervously bit your lip, your gut telling you to go get your dad, but you remained frozen in place. The music on your phone abruptly stopped and it began to ring. You jumped fearfully, relaxing when you saw it was only JJ. You quickly answered it, hoping it hadn’t woken your parents.
“JJ, I cant talk right now,” you whispered. Your eyes never left your thankfully locked window. “There’s—”
“Someone tapping on your window?” JJ finished for you, amusement laced in his gruff voice. Your eyes widened and you stood up, yanking back your curtain. The light from your room spilled out of the window, lighting up JJ’s face behind the glass. You sighed in relief and hung up, lifting the window to let him inside.
JJ grinned and pocketed his own phone before quietly climbing into your room; it was times like these you were thankful you lived in a one story home. You backed out of his way, going back to sitting in the floor by your homework. JJ watched you, doing a double take at all of the papers you had scattered around you. “Woah,” he breathed out, cocking a brow in your direction. “Are you sure we go to the same school? ‘Cause there’s no way in hell we have that much work to do it.”
You let out a light laugh, innocently shrugging when you caught his unsure gaze. “Yes, but I’m in AP classes. They require more work,” you replied defensively. You pulled a notebook into your lap, a separate sheet right next to you. “I need to finish these, JJ. Besides, don’t you have a party to be at?”
JJ sighed, lazily plopping down at your desk. He propped his feet up on your desk only to dramatically put them back down at the glare you sent him. “I was, but you weren’t there,” he said in reply. You frowned. Why did it matter if you were there? Sure, you were flattered he wanted you to be there, but that never stopped him from partying before.
“So?” You laughed, jotting down the next answer to your assignment. “I’m just not in the mood to party tonight. My parents would kill me, too.”
“Are you going to tell them?”
“Well, no, but they might—”
“They won’t.” You sighed, giving JJ a tired look. He held his hands out at his sides, eyes softened. “C’mon, Y/N. Kie said you’ve been doing this all day—”
“JJ, I promise, I’m fine,” you interjected. You really didn’t wanna have another debate about it again. You were still reeling in from the one you had with Kiara. You didn’t think you could do it all over again, and with JJ no less. As much as you appreciated his, and everyone else’s concern, it was unnecessary.
You looked back down to your homework, hoping JJ would drop it. You went back to working out the problems, pausing when JJ stood up and sat down beside you. The corners of your lips tweaked upwards, giving him a suspicious look. “JJ, what’re you doing?” You questioned.
He picked up a piece of paper, grinning towards you. “What’s it look like? I’m gonna help you so you can finish sooner and get to the party.”
You giggled, playfully rolling your eyes. “You don’t have to do that,” you stated softly. “I don’t wanna go, anyways.”
JJ dropped the paper, his eyes pleading with you. “This isn’t good for your health, Y/N,” he said, brows knitted together.
“You’re one to talk!” You retorted defensively. “How healthy do you think it is to drink as—”
“This isn’t about me,” JJ cut in, standing up. He ran a hand through his hair and took a few steps away, finally facing you. “I-we’re all worried about you. All were asking is for one night, Y/N. That stuff can wait until tomorrow. You need a serious break, and I’m not leaving here until you agree to come with me.”
You rolled your eyes in annoyance. “You can’t stay here all night, JJ.”
“Watch me.”
You angrily huffed, slamming your homework onto the floor. JJ proudly smirked — it was only a matter of time until you caved. You clenched your jaw and pushed yourself to your feet, folding your arms over your chest. “If I say yes, what do you get out of it?”
“I get to see my friend have a good time instead of overworking herself to death,” he answered, face hardened with sincerity.
You were taken aback by his answer. It was stern, but he didn’t hesitate. He was being honest.
Eventually you sighed, unable to stop yourself from smiling towards the sun kissed boy. “Fine, I’ll go, but one condition.”
“What’s that?”
“You’ll see.”
————
“This is ridiculous.”
“It is not!”
“I look like a freakin’ tour guide!”
“No, you don’t!”
The party was raging when you and JJ arrived, having ridden on your two person bike so you wouldn’t have to take your car and make it obvious you’d snuck out. Kooks, Pogues, and clueless Tourons clashed in one enormous group on the sand, bodies blending together in the sea of faces that moved along with the thumping music that blared from a nearby radio. A keg was placed by the water, red solo cups were discarded throughout the beach, some still clutched in the clammy hands of those hoping to have a good time.
“Hey, what time does the tour begin, hot stuff?” John B. called out, coming up to you and JJ, throwing his arm around his best friends shoulders. You held your hand over your mouth, hoping to hide your laugh from JJ. The boy turned to you, giving you an ‘I told you so’ look, but you just waved it off.
He shrugged John B.’s arm off, pointing in your direction. “It was her idea, not mine,” JJ stated. The bright yellow, Hawaiian shirt he wore was bright under the moonlight, making it easy for anyone to spot him in the crowd. The top five buttons were undone, you having been the one to say that was the perfect amount to have done — just the right amount of skin showing. A black bandana was wrapped in his hair, a few short pieces sticking out and resting on his forehead. “I think she raided your closet of somethin’.”
You rolled your eyes, playfully shoving JJ. Your gaze swiveled over to John B., giving him a small smile. “I take it you were worried about me, too?”
“I’m always worried about you. You don’t party enough,” he replied, chuckling. Then he nodded towards JJ, eyes twinkling mischievously. “He was worried the most, though.”
“I was not—”
“John B.!” A pretty blonde called out, motioning the boy over to her with two red cups in her hands.
John B. contently sighed, stealing a glance to you and JJ. “Duty calls, my friends,” he breathed out. He pointed a finger to you as he started to walk off, lips pursed. “Have fun, Y/N. And if I see you trying to leave early, I’ll drag you back and handcuff you to myself so you can’t leave.”
You falsely saluted him, hardening your features and stranding straight. “Sir, yes, sir!”
He gave you and JJ a final wave, disappearing into the crowd with the Touron girl, leaving you and JJ all alone. You were expecting him to go about and find some cute girl to flirt with and slip out of the part my with, but much to your surprise, he remained at your side.
You could see Kie off in the distance by a dim bonfire, trying to get Pope out to dance with her. You grinned, a gasp leaving your lips when you heard what song was playing. You sharply turned to JJ, gently grabbing his shoulders and lightly shaking. “Oh my god!” You beamed. You grabbed at his hands and pulled him further into the crowd.
“Woah, hey!” JJ whined, tightening his grip on your hand. “I’m getting sand in my shoes!”
“Hush!” You giggled, finding a spot near the middle that gave you both enough room to dance without disturbing those around you. You let go of his hand and then faced him, your smile never deterring. “Dance with me!”
JJ didn’t need to be told twice.
September by Earth, Wind, & Fire blared across the twisted beach, drunken teens belting out the lyrics even if they didn’t know all the words. Your heart was soaring amongst the stars, giggles emitting from you as you happily danced with JJ. All of your worries seemed to wash away the more you allowed yourself to get lost in the music, finding yourself truly enjoying the night.
JJ grabbed your hand and delicately spun you around, your laughs mixing together into the most wonderful sound you’d ever heard. He twirled you around again, pulling you against his chest with your back to him. Your breath hitched in your throat, feeling his warmth send sparks throughout your entire body. Your lips tweaked upwards, something inside of you igniting as you felt yourself be pulled back out.
Your eyes locked with JJ’s blue ones, his expression the same as your own. The music no longer mattered to either of you, your hearts beating in sync. Everything seemed to move in slow motion, JJ’s face getting closer and closer to your own. You didn’t even realize you were moving as well, your faces inches apart.
Your eyes briefly went to his lips and then to his eyes. JJ smirked, tilting his head. “You gonna make a move or what?” You scoffed and lightly pushed him away. He loudly laughed and grabbed your wrist, pulling you into him so you were chest to chest. “Why do you have to be so stubborn, huh?”
You innocently smiled. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
JJ let out a breath, moving closer to you. “You’re something else.”
“And so are you.”
Within seconds your lips were firmly pressed to his, your eyes fluttering closed as euphoria took control of your body. Your hands went around his neck, one had cradling the nape of his neck while the other traveled into his hair. You accidentally pulled some out from under his bandana, but he didn’t seem to care. He wrapped his arms around your waist, smiling as you two finally broke apart just as the song ended; you two were undoubtedly in love.
There was no way you two were going to forget the 21st night of September.

Ratatouille | JJ Maybank
Tumblr media
(GIF is made by me. Credit if used)
Summary: JJ Maybank is a clever little rat. Always stealing and never getting caught. Until, he finds himself in the presence of your own home and you finally catch him.
Note: It’s been a hot minute since I’ve released something so it might be a little iffy but, i really hope you enjoy it + feedback is appreciated
"Have you heard about the little rat who keeps stealing our food? Just the other day, my finest roast chicken was taken. I bet it's those dirty Pogues." Mrs Andrew's who resident three doors down complained to a few other figures, who slyly had there eye on your mother's newest trinket.
"You should take it as a compliment, Mrs Andrew's. It means your cooking is divine." You endeavour into her daily rant hoping she could see this in a different light.
Mrs Andrew vexed at your attempt to see the light in this particular theft, " That piece of chicken costs me 30 dollars. I don't pay for my food to be taken, young lady."
You threw your head back, squaring your shoulders with charismatic movement whilst hearing Mrs Andrew's bicker about a false accusation that you might be seeing a Pogue. As the daily neighbour meeting elongated into hours of constantly whining, you decided to seek refuge into a certain Cameron.
You constrain your body to accompany Rafe, your trusted advisor and best alcohol dealer. "Rafe. I need alcohol, pronto."
Rafe disapproved your request, seeing you suffer was a blessing and a curse to his sicken mind, "Mrs Andrew's giving you a hard time?" You nodded, freely motioning your head to rest into his chest.
"She's claiming I'm sleeping with a Pogue because I defended the 'rat' that steals her god damn chicken." Even the mention on the claim provoked you making you feel slightly uncomfortable that you had that potential to sleep with a Pogue.
"Don't you fancy the Maybank kid?" Rafe's eyebrow furrowed knowing too much about your personal life.
"I don't fancy him. I just see him delivering my groceries." Rafe prompted attacked your false claim by falling your emotions further.
"So staring at him for three minutes straight and, finding it hard to say 'thank you' really gives the ' I don't fancy him' vibe."
You awarded Rafe with the finger, gravitating away from his presence before you do something you'll regret.
    ✿✿✿✿
"JJ, A chicken? Really?" Kiara was slightly miffed by the actions that her best friend accomplishes the night before.  JJ rose from his worn-out deck chair that somehow stayed afloat giving the circumstances of the holes present.
"What are you on about, Kie?"
Kiara watched JJ fumble his way towards her, his walk was mistaken for zigzags which only met she had to handle a drunk JJ. "You stole Mrs Andrew's chicken and many more things."
JJ remotely failed to make a face to the name, shrugging his shoulder he twirled away from Kiara, "Mrs Andrew shouldn't be so worked up about a fucking chicken. If I did take the chicken, shouldn't she take it as a compliment?"
"You didn't have to steal it, JJ. You could have just asked me and I would have gotten you groceries." Kiara abbreviated JJ's response, hoping the statement she announced stayed in JJ's mind the next time he decides to steal.
Stealing for JJ was like breathing. He didn't need to, of course - but,  he needed to survive. It was like a curse his father placed when he turned to alcohol for pleasure. His friend tried to make him stop, but he couldn't break the curse. He always saw stealing as the only sensible way to survive in the Cut. In this Pogue life, you worked two jobs and were lucky enough to earn a tip. JJ wasn't going to rely on just an hourly income for himself and his drunken father, he needs cash, immediately.
It started with small items, food to help him function for the day. But, as he successful outsmarted Heyward, he thought bigger and placed his icky nose on the other side of the island known as 'Figure 8.' Figure 8 was JJ's dream, a dream that one day he would go full Kook and have a golden statue of himself.
"Noted." JJ bluntly responded but Kie wasn't remotely sure if JJ even took anything she told into account.
JJ watched the sea, lost in the rhythmic percussion of the harsh waves crashing onto the sand. His eyes watched the sunset, spreading into its last ounce of orange rays before twilight awakes. His lips bear the semblance of a smile, just enough to show that he knew what house he wanted to enter, whatever the consequences he was adamant to have another decent meal. JJ landed in Figure 8, a town he knew well from his kleptomaniac days. Since he got the heads up that Mrs Andrews was on the hunt, he vowed to take the beachfront.
His stomach commences into a harsh growl, the pain was noticeable and so was a house. It was three downs up from Mrs Andrews, a typical white framed fence with artificial flowers and wide backyard. JJ's wandering eye teleported him towards the gate, a gate he began to familiarise when his hand touched the newly painted wood.
"Mrs Y/L/N House..." JJ whispered to himself. When JJ's movement came towards the garden he noticed the door left ajar, a scent rushed out of the house and suffocated JJ's nostrils making his belly flip with joy. He knew he couldn't get into trouble due to the door being already open which was odd for Figure 8. JJ approached the door and scanned the ghost-like kitchen to see if anyone was awake.
No one was seen.
JJ pushed the door and it swung open with ease, a blast of air-conditioned of a cold streamed past him, with light jazz escaping through the night. He tiptoed inside, squinting his eyes shut as he didn't want to draw attention to himself. He shamelessly headed from the double magnetized fridge covered with pictures of you and magnets from different states.
"Why do Kook's have beautiful children?" JJ murmured, haltingly placing his hand over the handle letting the momentum of the fridge open revealing a whole stack of food.
"Tempting. What do you fancy tonight, JJ?" He asked himself, fiddling around with the products making sure everything was neatly stacked the way he found it. JJ took out a plate of half-eaten cheesecake, along with a bottle of coke with some fruit on the side.
"I found dessert, but I need dinner. C'mon pretty girl, what did mama make ya?" JJ eyes darted around the island, checking if there were pots present or even a plate visible to him.
"Bingo." JJ teethed with joy as he noticed a pan neatly resting on the stove. "Come to JJ."
As JJ swayed his arching body towards the stove, he smelt the rich scent evaporate around him causing him to gag a little, "This has to do..."
JJ tasted the dish, it looked like someone effortlessly threw random vegetables onto the pan and called it a day. "This is fucking disgusting."
"Tell me about it." You chuckled, repelling the smell of your mother's failed attempt of Ratatouille, and amazed that a boy with the same age demolished the meal in three gulps. "Of all things you could eat, you choose that?"
JJ froze insight, ceiling his eyes shut with a combination of a curse word leaving his lips, "Please don't call the cops."
"I wasn't planning too, Maybank." He was stunned by your response and the mention of his surname.
"How do you know me?" JJ dumbly interrogated the girl, trying to form a vision but the darkness around them forbade him.
You chuckled, as JJ tried to figure out a time where he would have met you."You deliver my groceries every Sunday. You are friends with Pope Heyward, I usually give him a can of beer whenever he is alone."
"Beer girl? No fucking way."
You bowed letting out a quiet laugh. "I'm guessing you are the person who stole Mrs Andrew chicken? and, If you really are that hungry I can make you mac n cheese?"
JJ hurled when the name entered the room, "The ungrateful bitch. She should be glad I stole her chicken. She's hella of a good cook, better than your ma's."
"Anything is better than my mother's cooking. I sometimes ride down to the Wreck for a decent meal. Mr Cerrera's food is the best." You praised the Cerrera's talent whilst you attempted to make Mac n Cheese for the hungry boy.
JJ sent a smirk to his fond smile, "I'm best friends with their daughter. Even though, I'm not their cup of tea... I still get scraps that ungrateful Touron's don't finish."
You envied the Pogue life, even more now as JJ began to blabber on about his adventures of surfing during the hurricane's, going to Mrs Crain's and Rixon's Cove. You liked being a Kook, you had everything you wanted and more but, something was missing. You had friends, Rafe mainly when he wasn't trying to get into your pants and his sister, Sarah but, It wasn't nearly as great as JJ's friends.
"You okay there?" JJ snapped your train of thoughts, placing his hand over yours.
You gave JJ a cramped smile as he took charge of stirring, "Yeah. I was daydreaming."
JJ didn't say a word, knowing it wasn't just a daydream thought. "Cute. How about you come and hang out with us? As for us, I mean the Pogues? But, If you want to hang out just us two..." You cut JJ with a light kiss to his cheek causing a heat of pink to arouse him.
"Taking that as a yes."
You laughed, scooting him away from the stove. "You are my guest. Sit down and I'll give you your food."
JJ did as he was told, hearing your bossy attitude take charge aroused him. "Yes, chef."
You delivered JJ his meal, watching him devour as if it was his last. The small moans escaping from his lips gave you confidence that you weren't a bad cook. "JJ, slow down. It's not going to run away."
"I think you have scored the best cook of Mac n Cheese. I'm definitely coming here, again."
You were meaning to question the boy on how he cleverly entered your house, "How did you even get inside? The alarm was on."
"Simple. the back door was open slightly. Someone must of-" JJ stopped when a gasp escaped your lips.
"Fuck. I forgot to close it." JJ chuckled at the clumsiness of your mind. He managed to figure you out in 10 minutes, which he didn't mind doing.
"It's okay. Maybe you forgot for a reason?" JJ tried to flirt his way into the situation, but you were more infuriated with yourself.
"You saying we were destined to meet, Maybank? I thought a Pogue and Kook don't get along or date." You translated the rules of the two tribes made by Rafe and, JJ.
"Fuck the rules. I tend to break them." JJ shrugged looking around as he proved his point.
"I see. Well, my mother is making spaghetti bolognese tomorrow? I'll leave you a plate outside." You winked, gathering his empty plate.
"And if it all fails, I'll treat you to a nice dinner at the Wreck. My treat..." JJ rambled not wanting to leave your house but, he knew he had too.
"You mean, free food at the Wreck?"
JJ pouted at the response. He was hoping for a simple nod.
"It's a date, Maybank."

Future Wifey
[kiara cerrera] x [reader] - 3rd person
prompt: “i’m gonna marry her.”
just a little blurb because this is super cute.
Tumblr media
                                   ≿————- ❈ ————-≾
“we did it guys, we found it.” john b. says, holding up the previously discovered gold. the mud had been washed off, the light in the house reflecting off of the shiny pieces. they were all sitting in the shabby house, all gathered in the living room drinking beers to celebrate.
“all thanks to your dad, john b. if it weren’t for him we would have even gone looking for it.” y/n said. she knew it was a sensitive topic for the boy, but she hoped it would lighten the mood a little bit. he was still upset about his dad’s disappearance, and she felt for him. jj cleared his throat.
“i propose a toast!” he announced. “to ‘big john’ rutledge!”
everyone chimed in, clinking their beers together and settling back onto the couch. kie snuggled closer to y/n, put her head on her chest and draping a leg over her lap. she could tell the girl was getting sleepy just by the way her breathing started to labor.
“looks like someone’s tired,” jj prodded at kie. she mumbled ‘shut up’ into her girlfriend’s chest, y/n’s arm now coming around her shoulders to pull her closer.
“how about... we play a game!” sarah suggested in a quiet voice, trying not to disturb kie.
“i’m down,” pope agreed. everyone was secretly surprised he wasn’t passed out yet after all that running he had to do. god knows that boy isn’t athletic.
“let’s do it.”
“alright, hmmm, how about spin the bottle?” sarah suggested, holding up her empty bottle. y/n giggled a little bit, the vibration in her chest soothing the dozing girl.
“we need to teach you our morals,” she shook her head. she knew that kie would be popping off about how there’s no ‘pogue on pogue macking’ even though the two had broken that rule months ago. “how about never have i ever?”
everyone agreed, putting down their beers to hold up their fingers. john b. went first, “alright, never have i ever... gotten arrested.”
jj huffed and put his finger down, “fuck you, jb. that was targeted at me.” he went next. “never have i ever gone down into an old blind lady’s basement, and almost got stuck 100 feet down in a well?”
“that was because of you, dumbass!” john b stood up, his hands dropping to his side as he and jj got up in each other’s faces. sarah looked at the girl beside her for help, not wanting a fight to break out.
“hey, hey, chill out. we aren’t here to fight, we’re here to celebrate, okay?” y/n mediated. “you act like 5 year olds sometimes, ya know that?”
john b plopped back down onto the sofa beside his girlfriend, taking a swig of his beer. jj pulled a joint out of his pocket and sat back down on the chair, lighting it. the smoke puffed out all around him, the aroma hitting y/n in the face.
“pass it here,” she said to him, reaching her hand out. once placed in her hand, she took a long drag and passed it back. “let’s continue.”
pope spoke up, “i’ll go. uhm, never have i ever, been in love?”
a smile came to the girl’s face instantly, putting a finger down. the girl that laid on her snored ever so softly and her heart warmed. “i’m gonna marry her.”
everyone stayed silent for a few seconds.
“enough with the goo-goo shit, y/n. go take her to bed so we can play twister,” jj rolled his eyes and pulled out the game from underneath the coffee table. she woke up the girl, taking her into john b’s spare room and laying her down. she looked at her peaceful figure and knew she was in over her head, but she didn’t care. she just wanted her. and she wanted her forever.

A/N: I am so sorry that this took like an eternity for me to write, I’ve been in a bit of a slump lately. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it!! I know that the POV’s might get a bit confusing sorry:( Requests/Asks/Messages are open as always:) TW: Drowning, blood, unconsciousness
Request by @sunshine-on-the-coast: Could you possibly do a request where you surf the surge, or you're on the HMS pogue and you drown and JJ he saves you or something?
Tumblr media
“Pogue Style” JJ yelled to you and John B as the three of you headed out onto the water. Kie and Pope stood behind the three of you. JJ and I had been dating for a little while now but had been flirting with each other for ages. Technically I’m a Kook, the kind of girl that was sheltered her whole life by her parents. That was until I met Kie at the Kook Academy. Kie was quick to notice that I was being left out of the kook life, much like she had been. So she took you under her wing and introduced me to the pogues. My parents weren’t too happy, to begin with, but saw the shift in their daughter. I was happier and more confident after hanging out with the pogues.
As we starting storming through the surf JJ stopped me. “You ready to go full pogue baby?” He laughed, shaking some of the water out of his hair.
“Hell yeah, I am!” I said laughing and running toward the water. I learned to surf with the pogues only a few months ago. While I pretended to be cool about the situation with my friends, I was freaking out on the inside. I had never even left my house during a hurricane before now, much less been in the ocean. JJ was looking back at my over his shoulder, smiling from ear to ear. He nodded for me to follow him out. So I took off, running into the white-capped waves.
“I am not resuscitating any of you! It’s double overhead out there you idiots.” Kie called, as she stood in the pouring rain on the beach.
The water was rough and choppy. Once the water was deep enough I laid over my board, paddling further out in the water, watching as JJ jumped up, riding the first wave that he was able to. The water was rocking my board, making it hard for me to say on top of it, mixed with the rain that was pelting us made it harder to see. JJ wiped out only a few moments later, splashing into the shallow water near the shore. Beside me, John B began to quickly paddle forward as I watched a wave approaching from behind us. John B stood up, teetering from the harsh waves on top of the water, but I could see the way the current underneath was stronger. John B hit the water with his back, cause a chorus of “Ooh” and “ouch” from the beach. JJ paddled back out towards the waves. “Don’t chicken out now princess” JJ teased.
“Oh don’t worry, I’m not planning on wiping out like you two,” I said pointing at the two as John B had paddled out to meet us. I looked out and saw a large wave headed for us. JJ and I shared a look with JB as we all start paddling forward, trying to get ahead of it. When the time came I stood up slowly trying to steady myself. The rough water was making it harder, but as soon as I stood up, I could feel the smile spread across my face. This was harder than the times I had surfed before the rain and current being harsher. I shifted my weight trying to carve into the wave.
A mistake. The board fell out from under me as I fell into the water. I tried to resurface ad grab my board, but I was pushed under by another crashing wave. I tried to grab for my bored, but it was knocked back into my head as a third wave crashed over me.
--
“Hell yea!” John B yelled as he pulled himself and his board up the shore towards Pope and Kie, who were still looking out over the stead waves.
“That was sick bro!” JJ said patting him on the back. Once back on the sand he turned everywhere looking for Y/N, she was nowhere to be seen. “Where is Y/N?” JJ asked throwing his board up towards Kie and Pope.
Kie and John B followed JJ into the water as he was looking for his girlfriend. His heart dropped when he saw the board surface a wave, but there was no one attached to it. John B threw the board to Kie before swimming out a bit into the rouge water. The storm was definitely starting to set in as the boys waded through the heavy crashing waves.
JJ felt an immense amount of guilt with each wave the hit his torso. He knew that she was not as an experienced surfer as John B or himself. He saw that Y/N had been hesitant and instead he was trying to push her further into doing it. He felt his breath stop in his throat the longer that time passed where she had yet to resurface. Searching in the ocean for Y/N felt like an eternity to JJ, but it was in actuality only a few seconds.
John B quickly moved out further as he saw her hair amongst the water’s surface. He flagged JJ down pointing to the figure in front of him.. “J she’s right there!” He made his way over to the girl’s struggling form. He lifted her arm, over his shoulder trying his best to pull her out of the water. JJ’s eyes narrowed as he saw her limp form, coughing up water as John B took her other arm mirror JJ’s actions. The two of them were practically dragging it her out of the water. Her head hanging low, hair falling in front of her face, but what worried him the most was short, struggled coughs that came from her body. JJ was quick to pull her into his arms as they reached the shore.
He carried her up onto the beach, he pulled her head over his lap. He was trying to move her tangled hair out of her face. Her eyes were barely staying open. JJ could not miss the blood that was slowly coming from the split above her eyebrow, assuming that she was hit by the surfboard. Kie fell to her knees beside JJ, he could hear the pain in her voice. “Hey Y/N. Are you there?”
--
I first felt a hand on my face, pushing wet hair away from my face. The world was covered in a white fog. I hear a few mumbles of girl’s voices, I nodded my head letting them know I was hearing them. I focused on the boy above me, my boyfriend who looked broken. His eyes were full of worry. I tried to speak, to tell him that I was okay, but all that came out was water. I started coughing and quickly felt myself being pushed up by JJ and Kie. JJ sat behind me wrapping his arms around my middle as I coughed up what felt like an entire lung. Kie was to my left trying to comfort me by rubbing up and down my arm.
I looked up to see Pope and John B kneeled down in front of me, wearing the same concerned look. I focused on my breathing, reaching down, and playing with the sand to begin to calm me from my initial panic. I felt my breathing become normal again and leaned back against JJ, resting my head on his shoulder.
Kie took a towel from the bag that she had on her bag and began to dab above my eyebrow. I winced as it stung. I saw that the towel was turning red. I reached up to touch my eyebrow when I looked at my hand it was faintly tinted red. I looked up at Kie, wide eyes. “What happened?” I asked, reaching for the bottom of the towel to wipe off my hand.
“I don’t know. You were the one who decided to listen to John B and JJ was a good idea.” She said causing us all to chuckle a little bit. “It looks like you split your eyebrow, nothing too serious.”
I felt JJ tighten his grip and place a kiss to my shoulder. “You scared the shit out of my baby.” He breathed out. “We aren’t surfing the surge again.”
“Oh sure big guy,” I said turning to face him. He kissed me softly, before placing a another to my temple, beside the cut on my eyebrow.
We were quickly interrupted by the crack of thunder and a flash of lightning from the horizon. On cue, the other’s helped us carry the boards back to the van. JJ refused to let me walk without his help. He lifted me onto his back carrying me back. As we approached the boardwalk, he started talking again. “Seriously Y/N you got lucky. I’m not gonna let my recklessness get you hurt or in trouble. You don’t deserve that, I’ll do better.”
I pulled myself tighter to him. “JJ, no you wouldn’t be you if you thought things through.” I laughed, causing him to scoff playfully. “Seriously though, it was fun, minus the almost dying part. This isn’t your fault JJ.”
He stayed quiet as we made our way back to the van. All settling into the van. John B started the drive back to the Chateau. “So Y/N how do you like living Pogue Style?” John B said from the driver’s seat, making the weird surfer hand gesture, causing us all to laugh.
I looked over at JJ, locking eyes with both of us smiling at one another. “I love it.”

TW: Substance abuse, underage drinking, angst, Rafe Cameron
Description: Y/N Routledge is tired of the overbearing rules and protection from her brother John B after their father disappears. One night she rebels and goes a little too wild, and JJ is left to help pick up the pieces.
A/N: I’m kinda nervous to post this... I’ve got ZERO idea where this came from, but it popped into my head. AND if we can’t tell by now, Im a sucker for a Brother best friend... Also I swear this blog has turned me into a drew stan, not that im complaining. I’m not trying to glamorized drugs or anything in this, don’t do drugs for any reason, pls. This is set before the season starts. If you are struggling with substance abuse PLEASE talk to someone professional that can help, that is the first step. I am not sure if I like this imagine or not, let me know what you think, it's definitely something different for me. As always... Requests are open.
Tumblr media
It was only one line. No one would even notice. It wasn’t a big deal. You had been drinking all night, this could not be any different. I stood up to walk away, my nose was burning, but I felt on top of the world though, I knew that. No one could knock me down, not even John B. That’s probably why I did it. He was treating me like a child. I know I’m his little sister, but he’s not my dad. If he can go out, party, do whatever then I should be able to too.
So here I was in the basement of some Kook house. I was not sure who had brought me here. I felt alive, the rush of the drug starting to taking over. I walked back up the stairs seeing my brother and his friends. I made a quick line to the drink bar. There I found a few clueless tourons pouring some odd concoctions of drinks. I hoped I had moved away from JB and his friends without them noticing me. We were all friends really, Kie was the closest thing to a best friend that I had, but they all were overprotective of me, like John B. I just needed to breathe.
I had apparently caught JJ’s attention when I came up the basement stairs. I had downed two more shots by the time that John B and the other pogues found me. A touron girl had helped me up on the countertop to dance with her. This was not like me at all, and the pogues knew that. Drunk me was quiet and angsty, I liked to pick fights, not make people stare at me while I danced on the table. JJ looked up at me first his eyes full of worry. I quickly turned away and looked back at the girl I was dancing with. She started dancing on me, while some guys yelled and called to us. I flipped them off grabbing the bottle from her hand and drinking straight from it, earning cheers from the crowd around me. JJ jumped up on the table with me. I  wrapped my arms around his neck, trying to dance with him.
“Y/N. What are you doing? You need to calm down, come with us, lets get some fresh air?” He asked worry coating his tone.
I scoffed at him. “Really JJ Maybank is trying to kill my buzz. That’s new.” I looked around and spotted the other pogues steps away on the oppisiteside of the counter.
“I saw you leave the basement Y/N. Do you know what they do down there?”
“JJ, I was looking for a bathroom.” I lied. “Don’t baby me, you know I hate that.” I kissed his cheek before jumping down. I made sure to quickly disappear into the crowd.
The others saw JJ move toward me but he turned around knowing he lost me. “JJ. You said you had it handled!” Kie stated.
“Something’s wrong” Is all JJ said. “She said to stop babying her. She was in the basement. This isn’t like her.” He locked eyes with John B, who was seeing red.
“We need to find her if she did…” He paused closing his eyes and pinching the bridge of his nose., “she’ll crash soon, better us find her than some kook”
I was in the middle of a crowd dancing. My vision was starting to be affected by the mix of substance in my system. I felt someone come behind me, their hand finding their way to my hips. I swayed back and forth. I felt their head dip to say something in my ear. “I know you’re a pogue, and I’m a kook and all, but I won’t tell anyone if you don’t” Rafe. It all started to make sense, he was the one who lead me downstairs, said if I was “sick of being treated like a kid” too follow him. It was all adding up, as much as it could. I turned around facing him. He looked down at me, with a look that said it all. The room was starting to spin, faster and faster, I was starting to wobble a little. I gripped onto Rafe’s arms for stability. He took that as a clue and leaned down. The next thing I knew we were making out, there in the middle of the dance floor. I didn’t feel anything for him, but I didn’t mind it, as much of an asshole he was, I knew that he had given me the coke. His hands were making their way down my body. He was practically keeping my standing. Everywhere he touched was like fire, I could feel everything, except the ground under me. Then he was gone.
I opened my eyes to see Kie staring at me. Then back at Rafe. “I guess you liked the coke a little too much.” He said to me then looked over at Kie before walking away. The room was spinning so much faster. The air seemed harder to breathe in. I was just macking Rafe Cameron. What?
“Y/N! What the hell was that?” Kie exclaimed pulling you through the house and out into the cold air. I stopped and gripped the railing that was leading to the beach. “Come on! The boys are worried sick about you!” I just stood there gripping the railing with both my hands. “Y/N”
I just held my hand up. “Can we wait for the world to slow down? It’s - It’s rotating so fast” I said leaning against the railing.
“No. Think about that next time before you take drugs from a kook” Her tone was cold as she pulled me by the wrist to the beach. I stumbled onto the sand. The boys rushing over to us when they saw Kie pulling me behind her.
“Where the hell was she?” John B was quick to hold me up, a worried look on his eyes, when I leaned into him for support. I was not breathing right. I could feel it. I tried my best to focus on the group in front of me.
“Hmm. Y/N. Should I tell them or you?” She said crossing her arms. Her voice was cold too cold. I stayed quiet. I pushed it too far. Way too far. “Well I went into that big group of Kooks, and found our friend here macking on none other than Rafe Cameron” She paused, everyone’s eyes grew wide. “But the best part is that it was payment for her doing his coke.” Pope and JJ just looked at you with wide eyes. John B moved so that you were facing him.
“You did what?” He looked into your eyes, looking for any sign that Kie could be lying. “She’s lying, right? You didn’t do that?” He shook you a little. Tears started to form in my eyes. I shook my head.
“She’s not lying.” The tears kept running down my face. I couldn’t meet his stares.
“Why?”
“I don’t know, okay?” I wasn’t lying. “I barely remember going down the stairs, much less why. I’m sorry John B”
“Whatever. We’re going home” He let go of me and I stumbled a little bit. JJ looked at me, the others following John B, just as pissed. He had a look of pity in his eyes, Great.
He walked over to me throwing one arm around my waist, and mine over his shoulder. “I’ve got you” was all he said.
The walk back to the Chateau was quiet, but the tension could be cut with a knife. When we arrived back JB mumbled something about talking in the morning if I wasn’t still a drug addict. Which I deserved for the way I was acting. Pope and Kie sat on the pull out couch in the living room, watching as JJ walked me into my room, shutting the door behind him.
“Do you want some comfy clothes to wear?” He asked. I nodded leaning against the bed. My head was starting to hurt. I had not thought of the repercussions of my actions at all, tomorrow would be hell. “Here.” He handed me clothes to change into. “I’ll turn around, but I’m not leaving, the last thing we need is you falling as splitting your head open”
I quickly changed into the sweats and T-shirt that JJ had picked out. “There are some of your clothes in my closet.” I pointed. JJ lived with JB and I at this point, he had stuff in every room of the house. He changed as I sat on the edge of the bed, messing and picking at my fingers, a nervous habit that I had picked up somewhere along the way. JJ folded the bed down and motioned for me to get in. I laid down and he started to the door. “Wait “ I said. He stopped after turning the light off. “Can you stay?” I got my answer when I felt the bed sheets move and the bed beside me dip. I took a deep breath, I was laying on my back looking up at the ceiling. “Why are you being so nice to me? I was a total bitch tonight.”
JJ rolled over to look at me. “We all have our nights. You don’t think I haven’t had my share of rebellious moments?” He chuckled. “Now I never did coke or macked on Rafe Cameron, but I had my moments, and I wish someone would have been there to keep me from thinking exactly what your thinking.” He said. His voice was soft. This is the side of JJ that we rarely saw, the side he saved for when it was absolutely necessary.
“Oh, yea? What’s that?” I asked, rolling on my side to look back at him.
“That your a screw up”
I laughed at his comment. “I mean I kinda am. At least after tonight.”
“No. I’m serious. The only one that can give you shit tomorrow is Pope, that boy is a saint.” He laughed to himself. “You know me and John B have screwed up, even Kie with her year going full-kook.” He reached up moving the hair from my face. “Can I ask you something?”
“Yes?” I said with caution. We were incredibly close. I don’t know if it was the alcohol or my body, but it was nice.
“Why’d you do it?” A simple question, but one I didn’t want to think about.
“I know why I got drunk and left the group, the rest, I don’t have an answer for, it’s all a blur,” I said. I felt so bad. I felt the tears starting to form in my eyes again. As I blinked they began to fall slowly, “I guess I am sick of JB treating me like a kid. He gets to run around and do whatever he wants. I help pay for the bills, we help each other,  we are equals around here. He still thinks he can control me. I love Kie, but she gets the same way like she’s my mother. I know that you all trying to protect me, I get it, but it feels like I’m being suffocated.” I let out a breath, It felt nice to finally get it off my chest. “Even you see me as just a little kid, even though I wish you didn’t.” I quickly covered my mouth. I couldn’t believe I said that.
JJ put his hands on either side of my face, wiping the tears away. “Y/N, I haven’t seen you as just a little kid, in along time.” He chuckled a little at the comment
“Wait, does that mean-”
He cut me off. “We’ll talk in the morning when you have less alcohol in your system.” He placed a chaste kiss on my forehead.
“You’re gonna have to get in line.” We both let out a short laugh before JJ pulled me into his chest.

𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐝
A/N: I was listening to music the other night and I heard this song and thought that it would make a good fic, so I wrote it. TW: It does talk about domestic abuse, with a slight description, and lying about it.  I love this song and the first time I heard it, I cried. I hope you all enjoy it. This is a more platonic JJ x Reader as I felt with this subject matter it would feel like I was romanticizing it, and I do not want to do that. As always please take care of yourselves, so if the themes might trigger you please don’t read it. Thank you all so much for the support!!
Description: JJ finds a girl at the boneyard after a fight with her boyfriend, then at the wreck, he brings her back to the Chateau with the other pogues trying to comfort her. Based on the song “Must have been the Wind by Alec Benjamin.
Tumblr media
I heard a glass shatter on the wall in the apartment above mine. At first, I thought that I was dreamin' But then I heard the voice of a girl, And it sounded like she'd been cryin'
JJ was sitting in a log in the boneyard, just another Friday night on the cut. The party had started to die down a little, tourons and kooks starting to leave to meet their curfew’s leaving the pogues to finish out the night, pogue style. JJ downed another drink, arm locked with John B trying to see who could chug the cup of beer the fastest. JJ throws his cup down, as John B finally pulls it away. “Aha!” JJ says jumping up onto the top of a log. It had hit that point in the night where people were looking to elevated surfaces to stand on because of how intoxicated they were. JJ was pulled out of his state when he heard the sound of glass shattering. He turned his head down the beach to see a girl. He heard, her voice, it sounded strained as if she had been yelling and crying. JJ saw a male figure walking away from the girl. He stepped off the log and quickly told Pope that he would be back. The other pogues were sharing confused glances, but let it pass. JJ approached the girl, who had now sat on the beach, just out of reach from the surf. JJ walked up slowly. “Hey. I thought I heard something over here, like glass breaking, or some yelling?” He stuck his hands in his pockets. He didn’t know what possessed him to walk over here, but he felt so drawn to her.   “Hmm nothing like that over here. I didn’t hear anything.” She said staring out over the ocean in front of them. “I just came over this way to get some air, away from the party. She let out a soft laugh. JJ saw the broken liquor bottle on a few feet away against the large piece of driftwood. “You sure everything is ok?” JJ said, giving her another chance to talk about it if she wanted to. “Yea, it was probably just the wind or something you heard.” She said pulling her hoodie up closer around her neck. JJ stuck his hand out closer to her, moving slowly. He wasn’t quite sure why he was being careful. “I’m JJ.” “Y/N” She said taking his hand and shaking it slowly. The two shared a glance, both softly smiling before looking back out over the ocean. “Have I seen you around the Boneyard before?” JJ asked he wanted to get to know her better, she was aloof, and JJ wasn’t having it. “Nah. This is the first time I’ve been out here. Ever heard of strict parents from the cut?” She said looking over to him. “Those exist?” JJ said, causing a slight laugh to leave Y/N lips. JJ loved the way it sounded. So he decided to try and make her laugh as long as they sat on the beach that night. They exchanged information and she walked up the beach and onto the ramps, before turning around and waving to JJ. He smiled back at her, throwing his hand up before walking back to the group. Only the other three pogues were left, sitting around a dulling fire. As he approached the group he got three confused stars from his friends. John B was the first to speak up. “You strike out dude?” “You guys are gross” Kie grimaced at their conversation. “No. I think I might have made a friend.” JJ said, thinking back to your conversation. “Aw. Our baby made a friend” Pope stated in a sarcastic tone, gripping JJ shoulder. “Whatever. I don’t know she’s just…” He paused looking at his friends. “Different”
She said, "I think your ears are playing tricks on you"  Sweater zipped up to her chin "Thanks for caring, sir, that's nice of you, But I have to go back in Wish I could tell you about the noise, But I didn't hear a thing"
JJ and Pope walked into The Wreck, seating themselves at the bar directly in front of where Kie was, pushing orders out of the window. “Kie, looking hot” She rolled her eyes at JJ’s remark. “No really like your sweating buckets” Pope laughed. “Ah yes, just what every girl wants to hear.” Kie stopped in front of JJ. “Looks like your mystery girl is taken.” Kie nodded her head in the direction of Y/N. She was sat with what looked to be her family. What looked like her parents a younger girl and a male. Just as JJ was about to turn around, protest that it might have been her brother, he saw the man take your hand from the table, kiss it, then wrap his arm comfortably around your shoulder. JJ would be lying if his stomach didn’t drop. He had been texting her on and off since the party, he even called her once. He knew that there was a boy from the beach but he had hoped she left him after the incident. He looked at the male, realizing it was in fact the one from the beach a week ago. The man who threw the bottle, the one that was yelling, but the one overall, that made you cry. He turned back, resting his head on his fist on the counter. He slowly started eating the fries that Kie set in front of him and Pope. Kie and Pope looked at each other silently voicing their confusion about JJ and the girl. The truth was JJ was worried for you. He knew what it was like to feel useless and made to feel unworthy by someone who was supposed to love you. He wasn’t sure where the attachment to you came from, but he wanted to help you before things went down that path. He did not want anyone to feel like that. Pope pulled him out of his thoughts. “JJ?” He said looking his friend in the eyes. “Yea Yea. Sorry” He shook his head. “Old Man Jone wore me out cleaning up his boat today” JJ said with a slight laugh. “Well you missed some pretty sick waves, today dude. Ain’t that right Kie?” Pope asked. “Yea. They were the best we’ve seen all week.” She said from further back in the kitchen. JJ tried to listen to the story that Pope was telling. He was trying to stay engaged in the tale Pope was telling him about a nasty wipeout he had. He heard a rustling behind him, and had to fight the urge to see what it was. When the back door opened out to the dock, he couldn’t help but turn to see Y/N’s boyfriend pulling her by the hand out onto the dock. He watched intently as he heard raised voices, and saw her in the window, tears starting to fall down her face. He saw her boyfriend put his hands on her shoulders, he saw the pressure that he was applying, then he saw her lips. “Stop, that hurts.” Then she was moved away from the view of the window. JJ was quick to stand up. Pope stopped him from going outside by grabbing his arm. “Uh where are you going?” “Umm I wanted to say hi to her,” JJ mumbled trying to head back out, where he still heard faint yelling. He looked back at what he thought was your family. “Dude, she left with her boyfriend” “He was hurting her.” was all he said before shaking out of Pope’s grip on his upper arm. He walked quickly to the door pushing it open. What he saw in front of him broke his heart. He was frozen. He saw her boyfriend in your face, his face red, angry, her back against the pole of the dock. He saw him shove her into the pole harshly, then Y/N’s face grimace in pain. The boy turned and walked away, down the way, toward the beach. JJ wanted to walk after him, show him what it was like to be hurt, and he almost did. Then he saw a glimpse of her, wiping the tears from her face, and resting on the railing of the dock. She pulled her hoodie up around her neck, just like she had the night of the party when they met. He made his way down the dock. He knew that he didn’t know what was going on entirely, but from what he had seen, he knew he had to help her. “We really have to stop meeting like this Y/N” JJ said leaning against the railing beside her. Y/N jumped at the sound of his voice. He stepped away casually realizing what that he had startled her. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” She said smiling. JJ saw the tears on the edge of her eyes. “I saw you leave with that boy Y/N” He paused looking back at her, she kept her gaze focused on the water in front of her. “I heard him yelling, I know that I don’t know you that well, but I wanted to help” “I think your ears are playing tricks of you JJ” She let out a slight laugh. She was trying to convince him, just as much as she was trying to convince herself. “It was probably just the wind again” “Right.” was all JJ said. “Well, Daniel’s family is in there waiting for us. He’s not here so I’ll have to cover for him.” She knew he saw, but she was in denial. “Seriously though, Thanks for caring so much JJ. I should really go back inside.” She reached up and put her hand on his shoulder, giving it a slight squeeze. “I’ll always care Y/N” was all that he said before she walked back up to the restaurant. Kie and Pope watched her enter and sit back down with the family, each asking her a degree of heated questions. They sympathized with the girl, but were worried were JJ was. Until he came back in moments later. The two of you shared a look before he took his seat back beside Pope. “Her name is Y/N” JJ said finally to the two. “The mystery girl”
I'm playing "Lean on Me" Just so that she knows that she can lean on me, And when she hears the words, I know exactly what I'll say Promise I'm not playing tricks on you, You're always welcome to come in You could stay here for an hour or two, If you ever need a friend
Y/N and JJ had been texting little things to one another. He learned about her more and more. He found out that she was a fellow pogue, from the cut, it was Daniel that was a kook. Daniel. JJ despised him, now he had more of a reason other than the fact he was a kook. She had yet to open up to him about the events that kept bringing her and JJ together. Always saying that it must have been something else or he was hearing things. JJ and the pogues sat around the bonfire in John B’s back yard. JJ lifted his phone when he saw a message from Y/N. She hadn’t answered him in a few days, making him worried, but he did not have any other way to find her. “Y/N: I broke up with him. I could use a friend” JJ read his phone. JJ was shocked, reading it again to make sure he was reading it right. As much as she tried to deny it, Y/N knew JJ had seen the past events and didn’t know where else to go. JJ responded quickly, “Where are you?” She responded telling him that she was walking back to her home. She wasn’t far from the Chateau, so JJ stood up, ignoring the questions from his friends and started in Y/N’s direction. He found her, not too far from the Chateau, arms wrapped around herself, and he could see a bruise forming on her jaw. His heart sank, and his stomach knotted. He felt a wave of nausea rush over him. He wrapped his arms around her figure. She froze at first but gave into the hug. “What was that for?” She asked, pulling away. “You looked like you needed it” He fell into step with her walking. “You should come back to the Chateau with me. If you want to, that is.” He was getting flustered. JJ didn’t know what was happening, he usually would ask a girl back to the chateau with no problem, but like he kept repeating to himself, She was different. “You know what? Why not.” JJ smiled at her words. They found themselves walking in silence. JJ’s eyes kept trailing back to her face, making her smile and blush a little, before focusing back on the road. Every time he did, he couldn't help but notice the bruise on her jaw. He hoped the more he looked that it would disappear because every time he saw it he felt his blood boil. “This is it. The Chateau.” JJ said, making a grand gesture with his hands. He led the two of them through the house to the back yard where the other pogues were dancing. Each had a drink in their hand, making their own silly dance moves. Y/N stopped and smiled, loving how happy everyone looked, how free-spirited the group felt. JJ took a risk and grabbed Y/N’s hand. He pulled her toward the group. “Pogues this is Y/N” he waved at you. “Y/N meet the pogues.” He turned, grabbing Y/N’s other hand and swaying back and forth to the music. She decided to let loose and do the same, swaying to the music. “So this is the mystery girl that JJ had been talking about.” The boy with long brown hair spoke. “I’m John B.” The girl spoke up, “I'm Kie” she said, “and this is Pope.” Kie was trying to take the awkwardness out of the air from John B’s statement. JJ released one of her hands to change the song using the phone propped up on the speaker. He turned to throw an arm around Y/N as the beginning of the song played, the rest of the group smiling and beginning to sway. “Lean on me when you're not strong” The group began to sing along to the song lean on me. “Cause you're gonna need somebody to lean on”  JJ lowered his head to her ear whispering the line to her. “And I’ll be your friend, I’ll help you carry on.” Y/N turned to JJ and smiled, even though it was a song, and he was singing, she knew that he meant the words that he was saying. Things settled down after the song finished playing. John B and Pope start to playfully bicker, drawing Kie in. JJ and Y/N sat on the long log by the fire. JJ nudged her shoulder slightly, getting her attention. “I hope you know I’m not trying to play tricks on you here. You’re always welcome here, you can stay as long as you need if you ever need a friend.” “Thanks J.” She laid her head on his shoulder watching the fire burning in front of them. JJ knew she wasn’t ready to talk about what happened. He knew that when she was though, he would be there for her to help her through it. He put his arm around her shoulder pulling her a little closer seeing the smile on her face growing as she watched the other pogues.
We can talk about the noise when you're ready, but 'til then I'll say, "It must have been the wind, must have been the wind”

𝐍𝐨 𝐏𝐨𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐬 𝐋𝐞𝐟𝐭 𝐁𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐝
Requested by @whats-goingon22: Good morning :)! I have a request where John B has a younger sister who works at the wreck and doesn’t always get to go on the missions because she’s working. Well, one day DCS shows up for her, with a cop on standby. And it’s a kicking and screaming match but they manage to get her in the police car. DCS woman and cop go to talk to Kiara’s dad, and she’s left in the car, freaking out, but she doesn’t know is that John b and the pogues saw the whole thing and are trying to get her out the car?
Description: Y/N is John B’s sister, and hasn’t been kept in the loop because he is worried about her getting hurt along with their treasure hunt. He fails to tell her that DCS is back to sniffing around and sticking their noses where it doesn’t belong. Y/N gets taken by Cheryl, but she can’t break herself out alone.
A/N: I have zero ideas on how DCS works so I just pulled from the show and how they portrayed it. This one was a little different than what I am used to, but I really liked writing it. I am sorry it took me so long I just saw it at the bottom of my inbox:( I hope you like it:) As always my requests/asks/messages are open. Thank you all so much for reading my work:)
Tumblr media
Being a Pogue meant having a job as soon as you were able to work because that’s what it takes to stay above water. I was no exception to this, especially when my father disappeared and Uncle Teddy decided that his gambling took precedence over me and my brother, John B. The Routledge kids were what we had been called growing up, never really seeing one without the other. Though in recent weeks that has not been true. John B had lost his job working for Ward Cameron after he stole scuba tanks. We found a shipwreck on the marsh maze and John B wanted to see what contraband was on the ship. John B and our best friend JJ had come up with the idea that it was a smuggling ship. I mean they could have been right, who willingly goes out, in an open boat, in a hurricane if they are doing something legal?
The ‘scuba mission,’ as Kie and I had coined it,  was the last one that I had been told about. The guys, especially John B, made sure that I was safe by going on missions while I was at work. After the groupers had shot at us in the marsh JB wasn’t having it. Not one bit. He said I needed to stay as far out of it as possible. The only reason that I had found out about the compass or that all of this had related back to our dad was because of Peterkin. She was trying to keep JB and me afloat and on the island. When I found out that John B had given her the compass I was pissed, to say the least. That was the last thing that we had left of our father and he handed it off the Peterkin for what? Protection? We didn’t need protection, we had been just fine for months now.
Because of our fight, JB and I had been avoiding each other for a couple of days, not exactly speaking. I wanted John B to know that he messed up giving our father’s compass to the cops, but because of my own stubbornness, I had no idea what the group had been up to. They seemed to always been leaving early in the morning or coming in late, making it easier to avoid John B, but still left me completely in the dark. I tossed my keys in a basket, rounding the corner to the main area of the house.
I jumped as I saw a large man to my right, he moved to stand blocking the hallway I had just moved from. I looked in front of me and there she was, Cheryl. The dreaded DCS lady. I rolled my eyes and huffed as she stood up crossing her arms across her chest.
“Cheryl look, I told you that Uncle T would be back tonight, so it’s a bad time for check-in as it’s only like what?” I look down at my wrist, pretending to read a watch. “Like 11 am.” I took a step away from the large man standing only feet from me.
“We’re here to take you, Y/N.” She stayed standing up. I scoffed and moved further into the house and toward the kitchen. “We know teddy hasn’t been here for months.”
“What? You and Mr.Bighead here stalking me now?” I asked. I met eyes with the officer, before trying to move through the kitchen to get outta the house.
“That was a mistake, kid.” He said before barreling into me and grabbing my arms behind my back. “You’re not getting outta here.” I heard the clink of metal and felt the cool handcuffs slide around my wrists.
“Seriously Cheryl?” I asked, my eyes growing wide. I tried my best to move my arms trying to get myself away from the officer. “Isn’t this a little bit excessive?” She eyed the officer behind me as if to ask the same question. I pulled myself away from him as he began to answer
“Already lost of Routledge today, we’re not gonna make it two.”
Then it sank in, they tried to get John B too. I had to get out of this. I began walking toward Cheryl. “Really? See Uncle Teddy just went to the mainland for the day to get some supplies and stuff. Ya know, we did just have Hurricane!” I exclaimed. She just shook her head. She didn’t believe me.
That’s when I decided to bolt. I ran past Cheryl bumping her shoulder hard enough to make her fall into the couch behind me. I pushed myself against the swinging door. And into the back yard. My hands being held behind my back by the cuffs proving to make it much more difficult. I heard yelling behind me as I tried to hurry down the stairs without face planting. I made it into the yard realizing I had nowhere to go through the back. My hesitation cost me my escape though. Before I knew it the officer was on my tail and lunged forward stopping me from moving ahead. I got a face full of dry dirt and dead grass.
“Seriously, kid just get in the car and things will be a lot easier for the two of us.” The officer started to pull my arms in the direction of his cop car. I, of course, was not getting in the car of my own accord. So I stood my ground, making my weight hard, trying not to move.
Before I could realize what was happening the officer huffed and lifted me by my middle. I started kicking my legs back and forth trying to pull myself from his grip. It seemed effective. I glanced at the car seeing Cheryl standing by the open SUV door with her arms crossed. “Why are you doing this? I’m literally doing just fine here!” The cop turned and I was able to see into the woods.
What caught my eye made me want to smile, or cry. I couldn’t tell at the moment. I saw a mop of golden hair first and then my brother standing beside him, both hunched over hiding behind a tree. JJ put his finger to his lips telling me not to say anything. Then I looked beside him, John B’s face held nothing but fear. He nodded at me, and I nodded back, silently agreeing that we would get out of this. The officer put me in the car and walked to the driver’s side. I had to think fast and quick. The Wreck, no doubts that Kie was there, and it was close enough that the boys could follow us there.
“Cheryl this is great and all really, but Um? Now I’m all dirty and gross.” She scoffed and turned to look at me. “So this is supposed to be better? Sending me to the mainland with nothing but the dirty clothes on my back.” She looked at the officer who just rolled his eyes and shook his head.
“Is there anyone that we can stop and talk to? Get your clothes while we do your paperwork?” She questioned.
“You mean besides Uncle Teddy?” I scoffed, causing Cheryl to roll her eyes this time. “Yes, the Carreras, they’ve been helping me and John B a lot,” I stated.
Cheryl looked at the officer and nodded. I guess they never need to speak. They must pull kids from their happiness often, they have it down to a science. I pulled on the metal cuffs, each minute that passed making them more uncomfortable.
As the car rolled over the gravel of the parking lot to the Wreck. “Can you take these damn things off please?” I said shaking the metal so they could hear. “They're too tight and they hurt.”
“Not a chance. You’ve already decided to be a flight risk.” He said.
Before Cheryl got out of the car she asked the officer to lay off a bit. I appreciated her sliver of humanity she seemed to have left. I huffed leaning back onto my arms in the hot cop car. “So officer,” I started, my tone coming off mocking,” What’s your name?” He stayed quiet, just looking at me through the rearview mirror. “Ight. Good talk.”
I looked out the window to see Kie. Flailing her arms in the direction of the police car. Her hair was all messed up. “Officer you need to help me. There- there was someone over there they yelled at me and they ran that way! They were super scary.” She pointed to the woods behind her. “Please!” She begged as she came closer to the car. The officer opened the door before pressing the lock button and pulling his keys from the ignition. He slowly moved out of the car and toward Kie. She kept pointing him in the direction away from the car. I looked around frantically trying to figure out how to get out of the car. A knock to the window to my right scared me causing me to jump.
John B was hunched down just below the window. “Unlock the Door!” He whispered through the glass, the urgency clear in his voice. I reached around trying to use my hands from behind me to pull the lock pin up and unlock the door. I saw the deputy getting upset with Kie, obviously learning that she did not have anything actually wrong with her.
Then the pin clicked up and the door was unlocked. Everything after happened so fast. I almost fell out of the car as John B pulled it open the second the lock was up. I fell into JJ, who hurried me to the side of the Wreck and into Kie’s SUV. I pulled myself into the back corner ducking my head down as the rest of the pogues followed suit. Pope taking the driver's seat. We pulled out as Cheryl came out to see the back door to the SUV open and the cop cursing himself. Both looked dumbfounded, enough to cause me to chuckle a little bit.
Once we were safely away from the others I sat up. “So who knows how to pick a lock so I can get out of these cuffs?” I posed as Kie and Pope turned to look and see that I was in fact still in handcuffs. Kie reached up and pulled a bobby pin from her hair.
“Turn around.” She laughed and began to work on getting the cuffs undone”
“That was pretty badass back there Y/N,” JJ spoke from the passenger seat.
“Maybe, but you're lucky we saved you.” John B chuckled.
“Don’t be so cocky. I heard they got you too.” I said as Kie got the handcuffs unlocked. Holding them up victoriously.
“Thanks for saving me though guys,” I said with a smile.
“No pogue’s left behind,” John B said reaching around Kie to squeeze my shoulder.

Chapter 8: “Code 45759 JJ”
A/N:  Okay I hope this chapter makes sense, like I said before my knowledge of the boats and ferry systems are very limited haha. Thank you all for all the wonderful support!! I actually feel like the fic is starting to pick up speed. I hope it doesn’t come across rushed, which is why I am a little worried about this chapter. Please let me know what you think! or any other requests, either for this story line or something else! :)
Description: John B’s Sister comes home from staying with their mom, only to find out that her brother is missing and her dad was murdered. JJ may have just lost his best friend. Her and JJ have to figure out what to do and how to pick up the pieces.

JJ was the first to break the silence that had built between us. “Let’s go for a swim?”
“JJ what? I’m not even in my bat–” I couldn’t even make out my sentence before I was pulled into the cold water. I slowly kicked myself back up to the surface of the water. I wiped my eyes off to see JJ beside me. He came up in front of me, both of us kicking to stay up. We held onto one another loosely for support. Once again, close enough for me to realize. “JJ what the hell?” I said. I started to feel my clothes sticking to me in that uncomfortable way.
“You did say that you came out here to cool off right?” He laughed. I splashed him laying back on my back just floating. It was nice, being able to look up at the few white clouds in the sky. JJ followed suit, laying back and just staring up at the clouds.
He lifted his hand up to point at a cloud, just over a tree, “That one there he started.” I looked up to where he was pointing. “Looks kinda like a bong.” He caught me off guard, causing me to laugh. When I did I submerged my head in the water, sucking up water. I came back up coughing out the salty water. “What?” JJ just looked at me.
“Seriously? A Bong?” I raised an eyebrow at him.
“What?” He shrugged. “Maybe I just wanna smoke.” He laughed looking down the shore. “I’ve got an idea.”
“Oh no”
“The last one to Old Man Jones dock cooks dinner.” I rolled my eyes as he started counting. “One. Two.” I took a deep breath. “Three.” We both took off down the shore. I dove quickly underwater trying to gain a little foot ahead. I may not have been on the island all year, but mom and dad made sure that John B and I knew how to handle ourselves in the water. I resurfaced and took a breath of air before going back into the water. JJ was right to my left, and I was too competitive to let him win. I pushed in a little more effort trying to out swim him. I looked up and dove back down, realizing we were only feet from the dock. I reach up grabbing the edge and pulling myself up. One I was holding the edge for support I saw JJ surface and grab the dock. We were both a little out of breath. Taking a moment to catch our breaths and relax. The sun was directly over us, helping to warm the water.
“You’ve been gone for like over half a year,” JJ said, still catching his breath. “On the mainland no less. How did you beat me? It was witchcraft wasn’t it?”
I laughed. “Oh you caught me! Burn me at the stake” I joked. “So what’s for dinner Chef J?” I smiled, beginning to swim lazily back to the house. JJ followed after me.
“Hmmm. I was thinking of pizza maybe?”
“I thought the deal was to cook?”
“I don’t think you want that Y/N” I laughed at his comment, knowing full well JJ was actually a decent cook if he tried. “Plus if we're gonna be up all night looking at the maps again we’re gonna need brain food.”
“Right, pizza, brain food” I laughed with him. I turned to float on my back, shutting my eyes from the harsh sun. “So what happens if we find a lead, like a ship that went through? What do we do then?” I had not thought that far ahead.
“We track them down,” JJ said.
“How do we do that?”
“That’s all on you Nancy Drew. What if we go to the ports? Call the captains and ask questions?”
“Yea, uhu JJ. We can do that.” I laughed. “Maybe look at new reports. If it is another country, the police might not have those on their radar yet. Check out that place however we can.”
We had finally reached the dock, making our way to the house to dry off. JJ went into the bathroom to change, while I went into John B’s. Every time I went into his room it was like a punch in the gut. The air was thick and hard to breathe. After what Kie said, it feels like JJ and I are the only ones that believe he’s still alive, which sucks. I feel like we can’t do this, just JJ and I. We’re both so irresponsible and here on our own, how are we going to pull this off? I pulled my new dry shirt on over my head. Hanging the wet clothes over the railing on the bed frame. I turned, walking out the door to find JJ on the landline phone.
“Yes that’s two cheese pizzas, with half the sauce.” He looked over at me sending a wink my way. It made my cheeks turn red. I started grabbing the papers and maps from the bin on the counter and settling into the barstool beside JJ.
“Half the sauce?” I questioned.
“I know how you always try to take the sauce off of your pizza” He chuckled. “So I figured I’d save you from looking foolish around here.” He moved to grab one of the papers from the table and the third map. The map from the day after the storm. My heart was beating quickly. I could not believe that JJ remembered how I liked my pizza.
“You remember that?”
“Kinda hard to forget Y/N. It’s weird.” I pushed against his shoulder pretending to be hurt by his statement.
I took the sheet that had all the boat listings. “What time did they..” I stopped. It set in JJ was there when they told him about John B. He was there, with the other pogues, he didn’t have someone to gently guide him into the idea like you did. It was just in the open for him.
“What time did what?” JJ said breaking me from my thoughts. I looked at him. I could feel the worry in my glance, but he seemed to be oblivious, or ignore it.
I cleared my throat. “What time did they say that they lost them?”
“Oh umm. I have no idea honestly. I mean, when I got in the car with the Heywards it was like almost one A.M?”
“Alright. Then we’ll start at 00:00 and move from there.”
JJ and I were deep into marking up the map, to where the Phantom was found, could have drifted, and the radius they might have swam to. There were lines everywhere, annotations at different times. Lines that went right over where the boat was but were way too late in the day. When the pizza got there, I beat JJ to the door, quickly paying for the pizza.
I walked in carrying the box to see JJ tracing a line down the page with his finger, and the silver Juul hanging from his mouth. He looked up. “I thought I was cooking dinner”
“Ah I changed my mind, you did buy us groceries” I ruffled up his hair, setting the pizza box on the stove. I grabbed a piece from the box. I took the Juul from his mouth and handed him the slice of pizza. I took a hit from the Juul, feeling the familiar effect of the nicotine before sitting down on the map and grabbing myself a slice.
--
I lifted my head from my hands and looked at the clock on the microwave. 2:30 am. JJ and I had been looking at the map for so long that my eyes were burning. We had since finished the pizza, smoked a joint, and a line of beer bottles was forming along the wall.
“What stamp time are we at?” I asked JJ as he crossed another ocean liner path off of our list.
“8:02”. I let out a frustrated groan.
“Okay only one more hour then we can get some rest.” JJ smiled at me and rubbed my shoulder. Over the last few hours we decided that we had to start moving quickly if we were going to actually find them. We realized that things were more time-sensitive than they seemed before.
“Okay next one,” I said, gripping the map.
“This one is a Cargo ship, smaller, it left from Port of Wilmington Delaware, and crossed into the NC Atlantic at 5:45. The trail is a solid purple line, Code 45752”
I squinted at the map, all the numbers starting to run together. I found a purple line leaving the side of Delaware reading 45752. “Here, I’ve got it.” I used my finger to trace the boat’s path down the coast for a bit, then out to sea, then coming toward the banks. I followed it till it hit a sharp turn toward land. It came right to the Phantom wreck, then turned a right angle back down the coast. “Code 45759 JJ” I said tapping at the point, scared that if I looked away it would disappear. “JJ what does it say?” I said urgency in my voice.
“All it says is ‘detour’,” JJ said, looking at me with a confused look. “They probably just weren't watching the boat and got off course.”
“Look at this J,” I said, still tapping on the spot. I began to trace. The boat’s line “Here they are going down the coast, following the same path that literally every other damn boat we have looked at did.” I reached the turning point. “But here they turn here and go towards the island.” I stopped, tapping on the gold star that we had put where the Phantom was found. Then turn back course right here, at the wreck of the Phantom. I looked up to see JJ looking at the map intently. “Then here they stop, then continue. Something caught their attention in the water, the wreck. What is the time stamp for those two marks?”
JJ rushed to grab the paper, tracing his finger along the line of stamps. “Uhhh. It’s 7:56 and 8:32.”
“That’s too long for them to be on that tiny strip for it to just be an unmanned ship.” I felt the hot tears start to fall from my eyes. I didn’t even mind, because this time they were tears of joy, tears of hope, we had something.
“He did it, he got out.” was all JJ said.
“It is the only one who turned this way, had any weird activity. JJ this has to be it. It has to be.”
“John B and Sarah are alive,” JJ said. I could see tears on the brim of his eyes.
“Holy shit J” We both stood up. JJ put hands on either side of my face and connected his lips to mine. I was frozen at first but quickly began to kiss him back. It was brief, but I felt a spark as he pulled me closer to him.
He pulled away, still holding my face in both hands “You, Y/N Routledge, are a damn genius.”
“We really did it J. We found something.” He started to wipe the tears off of my cheeks with his thumbs, both of us smiling like idiots.
“Do you want to tell Pope and Kie to suck a dick or should I?” He said with a laugh.

Chapter 5: The Bigger Picture
A/N: WOW! Y’all are so sweet and amazing <3 Here is Chapter 5. Tension is building, kinda. This is so s l o w burn that it’s hurting me. I kinda want this to be about more than just a romance tho? Especially in the beginning, but I am working on the other chapters, and where it is heading, I promise! Bare with me haha! Also I have no clue if those maps exist or if that’s even a thing. I’m just making it up, but it could be right haha.
Tumblr media
I practically dragged JJ through the front door of the Chateau. “What’s all this about Y/N” JJ finally asked as you both walked through the kitchen. I pulled my keys out of my pocket, fiddling on the keyring, finding the small golden key. I held it up to JJ, rattling the other keys, a smile plastered to my face. “A key? How exactly is that supposed to help us Y/N?” I rolled my eyes in response. I turned to the door, just on the side of the living room.
My dad’s office.
As long as I could remember, I was never allowed in there for extended periods of time. I would wander in some late nights when he left the door cracked, or to bring him a glass of water and a snack. I could see him now thinking back, hunched over the desk, glasses low on his nose, pen in one hand, the other holding the map that he was marking up.
“Ah. Y/N. Taking care of your old man, making sure I stay alive I see” and he would chuckle, but I didn’t. I left, and days later her disappeared, he was killed all because of that stupid shipwreck, just like my brother.
I rummaged through a few things, pulling binders down and looking through the first few pages. JJ looked over at me, honestly worried. I mean if I was watching someone else in my position I probably would be too. I know I probably looked crazy, I was grasping at short, short straws. It was all because I was not ready to give up on my brother just yet. I found the binder labeled “Ship maps”. I pulled it out and handed it to JJ. Okay, maybe this was a little far-fetched, but it was something.
JJ took it carefully out of my hand. He hesitantly looked at me before looking down at the map, slowly unfolding it. I started to tap my fingers against the table. My nerves were on edge as JJ looked between the map he was unfolding and me. His hand reached down to cover mine that was tapping at an annoyingly fast pace. I bit my lip as he looked over the map.
He furrowed his brows and looked up at me. “What am I looking at exactly?” He questioned. I laid the map out on the table. I couldn’t blame him, if my dad had not been into this stuff I wouldn’t know what was happening either.
“Okay so here,” I pointed to one of the lines that were on the page, and traced it down the coast of North Carolina, to where it landed in a port in Charleston, “is the route that the ship was recorded to talk, based off of the sonar and the GPS in it. Ya know, the kinda thing that the bigger, hauling, cargo ships have? For the long trips?” I finished looking for the key.
JJ slowly nodded his head looking at me. He could tell I might be on to something, he just was not quite sure yet. I flipped up the side of the map, just the first panel, and it showed an elaborate excel table, filled with numbers and symbols. “Here” I pointed to one of the highlighted symbols along the path that I previously traced, “Is…” I took my other hand to skim the table to the side, trying to find the matching color and symbol. “Ah. Here.” I tapped the symbol in the table, JJ leaned closer to me making my breath hitch involuntarily, we were so close, we were touching, practically no space between us. “See here it says that this ship reached 35.1146° N, 75.9810° W, on Saturday, May 14th, 2007, at…” I followed the line with my finger, 16:45” I finished my rant.
“Okay.” JJ breathed out, his brows still knitted close together. I could see the worry in his eyes. At this moment I could not see it, but he thought I might have been going crazy, things are starting to get to me.”Y/N, this is great, but I don’t know what this has to do with John B.” He sighed. “But I'm not gonna lie, a girl who knows her way around the ocean, the commanding voyage out to sea, boss babe style, kinda hot Y/N” JJ joked, trying to lighten the mood and his worry, then he realized how close we were, but he didn’t move.
I let out a laugh. It felt natural, which was nice. “I'm being serious JJ,” I said, still laughing and pushing his shoulder back.
“Whatever you say,” He paused. “Princess.” I rolled my eyes looking back over the map. “What does all this mean though? How is this map, from before we knew what the Merchant was, going to help us find John B?”
“Ah, you have to think bigger JJ. You see if we can get the coordinates of the Phantom’s last signals, where it was found, or where it could have been between last night and when they pulled it up, we can cross-reference that, with any boats that may have come through. If we can somehow get a map from any of those larger companies, maybe the ferries, hell we might even be able to get it off the internet. We can see if any boats came around then start from there?” I said, but it sounded like a question. “I know that it’s barely anything, but it’s something JJ!’ I continued rambling. “If the ships picked up JB and Sarah, pulled them on board, then  maybe…” I didn’t know how to finish the thought. I looked up from the scattered maps to JJ.
JJ stared blankly at the maps then up at me. He both put his hand on the sides of my face and just looked at me. He probably thought I was crazy, that I was losing my mind. “You’re a genius Y/N” He then placed a quick dramatic kiss on the top of my forehead. “Seriously, I never would have even thought to look into any of that.” He stepped back. I was slightly taken about by his actions had we always been this touchy with one another when John B was around. “So where the hell do we start Nancy Drew?” JJ said, rubbing his hands together making me laugh.
“The ferry would be a good place?” I said shrugging my shoulders. “But I haven't exactly thought that far ahead” I laughed a little, and saw a smile still on JJ’s face.
“Then we’ll start at the ferry’s office!”  JJ said moving out of the office. I looked up and around the room. At all the research that my father did. All the books that line the walls, the maps hung up, all of it. I wanted to get rid of it. My skin felt hot and I could feel it turning red. I gripped the table tightly, hoping the anger would pass. A picture frame on the wall caught my attention. I lifted it from the hook it was sitting on. In the frame was a picture of the Royal Merchant, labeled and matted. Stuck on the outside of the glass, covering the lower corner of the Merchant was a picture of the three of us, John B, my dad, and I. It was taken a few summers ago by our neighbor, we had come back from a long day out on the boat fishing. I felt tears start to form in my eyes. My back was facing the door so I didn’t see JJ enter the room. He came up behind me, putting his hands on either of my shoulders. He looked down at the photos in my hands.
I reached one hand up to wipe a stray tear. I was so sick of crying. “I can’t believe that a shipwreck from the 1800s made me lose two of the most important people in my life.”
“I know” JJ spun me around to look at him. “You have a plan,” He said smiling
“We’ve got a plan” I corrected him. “Actually, before we head out on this chase, do you think you could help me with something?” I said softly.
“Anything,” JJ replied. The worried look still in his eyes.
“Can you help me clean up here?” I looked around at the mess, from when I got here, and the mess that I had just made. “I don’t know, I just want to clean it up, lock the door, and not think about it for a while,” I said, starting to fold-up maps.
“Of course.” JJ smiled starting to close up binders and arrange them on the shelf. “If  you were going to use me as a maid Routledge, you could have at least bought me one of those cute costumes?”
I pretended to gag. “JJ that is an image that I did not need in my head.”
“You may not have needed it, but I bet you’re enjoying it.” He winked in my direction. I felt the blush creeping back onto my face.
“In your dreams J,” I said with a laugh.

Need to catch up? Ch.1 / Ch.2 / Ch.3 / Ch.4 / Ch. 5 / Ch.6
I woke up and fluttered my eyes open. I heard rustling and all I saw was darkness. I realized that JJ and I were still intertwined from the position we were in the night before. I was faced with his chest, his head resting on mine, and his arm wrapped to cover my face. He was warm and I could feel a sudden draft of wind, making me move closer to him. I started to doze back off in the warmth of the bed. Things we’re black, but I heard people walking, and then an “Shhhh,” followed by papers rustling. “What is all this?” I felt JJ move his head from mine. I wasn’t dreaming, was I?
“I see you’re coping by throwing yourself at the tourist girls per usual.” l definitely wasn’t dreaming someone was in the house. I jumped at the sound of the voice, not sure why it had scared me so much. I felt JJ wrap his arms around me a little tighter.
“It’s just Pope and Kie,” JJ said to me. I slowly sat up in the bed looking at both of them. I knew they were hurting, but throwing that insult at JJ, uncalled for. I moved my hair behind my ear, my face turning red from the position that they had found JJ and I in. I just smiled as both of them looked between JJ and me with a stunning glance on their face.
“Y/N?” Kie was the first to speak, before running up to me and giving me a soft hug. “What the hell? When did you-” She stopped, taking in that I was here, in front of her.
“I got back a few days ago” I said shortly, looking over to JJ who was looking at Pope giving each other glances.
Pope finally looked my way. “Honestly didn’t think we’d ever see you again.” He chuckled at his own statement.
“Y’all can’t get rid of me that easily now,” I said trying to lighten the mood. “What are y’all doing here?” I asked getting up from the bed, pushing JJ off in the meantime so I could fold it up. He let out an annoyed groan but ended up helping me as we listened to Kie and Pope.
“We thought we would come by, see if everything was alright over here. You know, maybe clean the place up.” Nothing about seeing if JJ was staying here, maybe that’s why they were here, just didn't say it.
“Yea, somehow Y/N got me to clean the house up her first night back.” JJ joked as he put the last cushion on the couch, flopping down on it.
“How did you manage that Y/N?” Pope laughed with him. The air was thick, now it was Pope and Kie sharing glances, and I remembered what JJ told me about their maybe relationship. That wasn’t the only reason the air was thick.
We all were at a loss for words without John B. No one knew if it was okay to joke and laugh, or if we should all be crying. The air in the room was so thick it was almost hard to breathe. We all sat around, JJ pulling out his Juul and taking a few puffs, relieving his own feeling of tension.
I broke the silence, moving toward the maps. “What have you guys been up to?” It was a simple question but asked much more than just that. I wanted to know how they were doing after losing John B, but more importantly why that had not reached out to JJ. Maybe I was being too hard on them, it had only been a few days, but until now they did not know that JJ wasn’t alone.
“Uh. Not too much. We went to the tent to see Shoope a few times, other than that, trying to figure out where to go from there, how to move forward.” Move forward. Ouch.
“Yea. I mean we’ve been at the Wreck almost all day with my dad, he doesn’t really want us to leave with all this still going on. He thinks they’ll pin it on us.”
I quickly looked at JJ, giving him a questioning look. Why would they pin anything on the other pogues? JJ made it seem like everyone knew by now that Rafe was guilty. “He’s probably looking out for us. You know Mr. C, Y/N always looking out for us.”
I mumbled a “right” making a mental note to ask him about it later. I moved to start cleaning up the maps. I had no plans to tell the other two what JJ and I were up to, as they were trying to “move forward.” John B had told me that they believed our dad was dead, even when we didn’t, but I thought maybe since it was their friend this time they would think differently.
“So what is all this?” Pope asked, moving to look at the maps scattering the counter in front of us.
“Nothing,” I said.
At the same time JJ spoke up “Wild goose chase, part 2.” I shot JJ a look. If looks could kill he would have been dead.
Kie looked between the two of us and then grabbed the last map on the table that I hadn’t folded up yet. She looked over it and then back at me. “Are you really trying to find them?” She looked at JJ. “You both still think they're out there?”
I took the map out of her hand and quickly folded it up to move it into the bin with the others. “Of course I do Kiara.” I used her full name, something I tend to do when I am mad. I was shocked that she expected anything different. “I am not giving up on my brother, not now! It’s only been a few days, and you both are ready to salute him goodbye!” I motioned between her and Pope.
“Y/N, if they were there don’t you think the police would have found them by now, huh?” She asked moving closer to me. I didn’t like this, the pogues were normally supportive, but something had changed.
“Yea, because their top priority is finding some fugitive from the cut that's been lost at sea.” Sarcasm dripping from my words “If we don’t stick up for them, who will, huh?” I fired back, mimicking her tone.
“You know, your brother said the same thing, look where that got him. You would think after what happened to your dad and your brother chasing things lost at sea, you would learn not to.”
I stopped what I was doing. I froze. I could not believe that she said that. “Kie what the hell?” Pope said to her. He looked at me with pity in his eyes.
“Yea what the fuck Kie?” JJ stood up and walked in my direction.
She looked around and quickly walked out of the house, Pope nodded at JJ and quickly followed her. It wasn’t a few seconds after the door shut that JJ wrapped his arms around me in a hug. He didn’t say anything. He didn’t have to.
I pulled away from JJ. “I’m gonna go sit by the water for a bit. I need to clear my head.” I said before starting towards the back door.
“You sure you’ll be okay by yourself?” I smiled back and just nodded before turning back to the dock.
I sat down letting my bare feet rest in the water. The water was cool, as it was still the morning. Kie really gave up on John B, so did Pope. It hurt me to think like that, but what if they were right? What if all this work was just JJ and I trying not to process our emotions, something neither of us handled well. I did not want to think about John B or even the way that my heart sped up around JJ. My mind shifted to JJ, the new relationship that had seemed to form the past few days. It wasn’t anything I should be thinking about, but it helped me from thinking about John B. JJ and I had always been friends, but recently, with the constant comforting touches and the nights that we had shared, made things feel different.
As if on cue JJ came walking down the dock, and like that my alone time was over. JJ never was one for being alone anyway. When he reached me, he leaned down and handed me an open beer. “Thought you could use this.” He said as I grabbed it. “Do you need more time?” He asked.
“Nah. I just need to cool off after that…” I paused as I watched him sit down, “heated discussion.” I laughed.
“She shouldn’t have said any of that, it was uncalled for.” There it was, those constant, reassuring touches, as he put his arm lazily around my shoulders. “I’m sorry.”
“We aren’t being crazy are we?” I asked looking up at him. “I mean she is right isn’t she? In some respect at least? I mean I’m literally doing what I was complaining about both of them doing, hunting a shipwreck.”
“We aren't hunting a shipwreck Y/N” He paused and looked at me. “We’re hunting our friend, your brother, we’re looking for someone, not something. It’ll be worth it in the end, Promise.”
We sat like that on the dock in silence for a while the breeze came off the ocean. “Kie really thought I was just some tourist you were macking to help you cope?” I laughed nudging JJ slightly.
“I know. She really has no faith in me.” He shook his head but I could hear the sarcastic tone in his voice. “Plus, you have changed since last summer. Your hair is longer and it’s all light and sunny. Plus you’ve grown up, I mean we all have. I don’t blame her for not recognizing you” I just looked back down at the water, a blush creeping up to my cheeks at his sudden affections. “Plus we could be macking, I’m not objecting” I turned quickly to look at him after his sudden statement. He had a huge smile on his face.
“What?” I nervously laughed.
“What?” He laughed back.

Chapter 6: It Was Too Easy
A/N: This is a long one, some fluff I guess, I promise I'm getting there haha. Also two in one day? Kinda proud of myself haha. No warning on this one.. I don't think.
Description: John B’s Sister comes home from staying with their mom, only to find out that her brother is missing and her dad was murdered. JJ may have just lost his best friend. Her and JJ have to figure out what to do and how to pick up the pieces.
Need to catch up? Ch.1 / Ch.2 / Ch.3 / Ch.4 / Ch.5

I looked over the office space, it was pretty clean if I do say so myself, the cleanest I have ever seen it at least. The desk was bare except for a few supplies, the shelves neatly stacked with books, and the surfaces all nicely wiped down. I took one last glance over the door before making my way to the door that JJ was leaned against. I pulled it closed and locked the door. For a while at least, I would not have to be reminded of it. I walked out leaned against the counter, looking at JJ.
“So what was that about back there.” I sat on the barstool as he moved to the kitchen, pulling out groceries. “What are you talking about?” He raised an eyebrow at me, pulling out a pot and some pasta.
“Back at the police tent.” I walked over pulling out the spoons and stuff for the pasta. “You said I can’t be…” I paused and motioned over my body, “me. Why?”
“Oh. Yeah umm, you know how I said Ward adopted John B?” I just nodded in response, beginning to pour the pasta into the water JJ put on the stove. “Well his social worker was standing over there, and I didn’t want her to know that you were his sister. She might try to take you too.” He looked up at me, his head still hanging low.
My heart broke, the tone of his voice, the look in his eyes was heart wrenching. I walked over to him, wrapping my arms around his waist. This form of comforting each other through physical affection, while new, was our go to. We knew that we both lacked the words to help the other. He put his arms around my neck. I squeezed him a little tighter. “I’m not gonna go anywhere. There’s no way you're losing me J.” I felt him hold me a little closer.
Our moment was soon interrupted by the water boiling over onto the stove. I quickly moved to grab the spoon and stir it, moving to turn the heat down. JJ moved to grab a towel, out arms brushing, just enough for me to notice. We continued to cook in silence until it was ready.
“So to the ferry office first?” JJ questioned as we began to eat. “Or should we start somewhere else?”
“We need to know the area that the ship was in, or was found, you know? Before we get any other ship info.” I put another spoonful of pasta into my mouth looking at JJ.
“Do you think Shoope will give that info out?” He questioned.
“Honestly, I have no idea, but it was your boat. Maybe we can pull that string.”
“My dad’s boat…” JJ said before falling silent.
“Right.” I took in a deep breath. The room fell uncomfortably silent. I was no stranger to the way that JJ’s dad treated him. I had known him as long as John B had. It broke me to know that if Luke finds out about this or finds JJ, I don’t know what will happen. JJ risked everything to help John B, and hopefully, it wasn’t for nothing.
--
We finished up eating and cleaning the kitchen before starting off the walk back to the sheriff’s tent. I was hoping that giving my car a break would help her to start again. We approached the tent and JJ stopped. “I think that you should sit in the car.”
“Excuse me?” I snapped.
“Not that I don’t want you to come, but a lot of Big John’s friends and Co-workers are here.” I glanced up to see the other fishermen and neighbors in the tent. “And that lady, the social worker, she's close to the agent, and-”
“Okay JJ” I put my arm on his shoulder. “I get it.”
“I just don’t wanna risk someone noticing you, and her sending you back to the mainland. I can’t go through with this goose chase alone.”
I laughed. “Of course. Okay, you need to ask for the coordinates of where the boat went down, and where it was found, we’ll go from there okay?”
He held his hand up to salute me. I mirrored his and saluted back, “Aye, Aye Capt’n.” He turned away, both of us laughing. I kept my head down as I walked back to the car. The more I thought about it, the more that what JJ was saying worried me. I was supposed to start school in the fall, I had no one to stay with and they found out my uncle wasn’t here. I needed to stay as undercover as possible. I undid my keys from my pocket and got in. I was right, my car started. I rolled the windows down enough to get some air in, but let the window tint still keep me hidden in the car. I flipped through radio stations, waiting for JJ to get back into the car. Half of me expected him to come back empty-handed, because of his relationship with Shoope, and the law in general. After this morning though, the way that he looked at JJ, half of me thought JJ would not even have to try too hard for the coordinates.
“Ah, I see she started.” JJ said, opening the door. I jumped up from his sudden burst into the car. “Maybe next time you hide, lock the doors?” He turned, pulling the seat belt over him, as I did the same. “Oh, I love this song!” He turned up the radio sitting back. I just looked at him, a confused look on my face. “What?” He smiled at me.
“You know what? Did you get it? What happened?”
“Oh yea.” He dug in his pockets. He pulled out a yellow sticky note.”I present to you” He dramatically handed you the slip. “The last coordinates of the Phantom”
His smile was big as I reached out and gripped the paper. “35.081289,-75.950656” is red. “JJ how did you even?”
“Ah, it was too easy Y/N” He took the sticky note back from me and slipped it back in his pocket. “I told him that my dad needed the coordinates for some insurance thing.” He started. “Kie and Pope were there”
“What? Did you talk to them?” I asked, worry coating my voice. Things didn’t seem right with them since John B left, which I hated. “You aren’t avoiding talking to them because I’m here right?” I had to ask, I did not want JJ losing his closest friends because I came back and he felt like he had to take care of me.
“What? No! Absolutely not. I don’t know. Since they kissed they’ve been figuring things out I guess.” He reached over to grab my hand. “Don’t think you’re changing me that much Routledge” He joked, but I could tell he meant it.
I squeezed his hand before moving to shift the car in gear. “So what happened?” I asked, still wanting to know. “Did they speak to you?”
“Oh, yea. They seemed a little worried when I was talking about my dad like they wanted to ask about me, what I was doing. They didn’t though. Shoope just gave me the numbers and I didn’t really stick around. They weren’t saying anything, I’m not sure what they were there for. Shoope said that they had not found anything, but they were still looking” He scoffed at the last part. “Compared to them, well, we’re literally better than the FBI.”
“I’m sorry that Kie and Pope aren’t talking to you. I really am.”
“Like I said. I’ve got you, you’ve got me” He said it with a smile on his face, causing one to grow on mine as well. “So where are we going now, Nancy Drew?”
I laughed at the nickname he had given me, at least it was better than princess. “The ferry office, to hopefully con them out of one of those maps. And a ship list.”
“Alright then. Sounds easy enough” I laughed again, I swear JJ could lighten the mood, anywhere anytime, and I was so thankful for that.
--
We walked through the large glass door to the ferry office. “All the tickets are sold out for the next ride. Try again in a few hours.” The old man behind the desk said, without even looking up from the old box of a computer that sat in front of him. JJ gave me a disgusted look before walking to one of the models in the room, after motioning for me to talk to the man. I guess it was my turn to get the materials.
“Uh, actually I was hoping you could help me find some public records.” I said walking up to the tall desk.
He looked at me over the glasses that sat low on his nose. “And those would be?” I was hoping you could get me an ocean liner record and map from the days around the storm we just had?” I asked as calmly as I could. I wasn’t doing anything wrong, but I was extremely nervous.
“And what does a youngin like you need with a liner map?” He said looking back at the computer. He started typing. “What area do you want?” I let out a breath.
“The area surrounding the Banks would be fine if that's not too much.” I smiled at him. He gave me a questioning look. “And it’s for a school project, gotta work on that home history and workforce stuff”  I forced a smile, still had no idea what I was talking about.
“Alright. Seems a bit intense for summer school?” He said standing up and reaching for the printer behind him, which began spitting out the large paper maps.
“Summer classes, Chapel Hill. You're looking at one smart college girl right here” JJ said coming to stand behind you.
“Oh. Alright, I’m glad they're covering this stuff over there on the mainland. It’s important.” The old man spoke handing you a few papers and 3 large maps.
“Yes of course,” I said taking a few steps back. “Thank you so much! My professors are going to love this.” I said making the older gentlemen smile. JJ and I walked at a quicker pace. Once we were in the parking lot JJ wrapped his arms around my waist spinning me around him.
“We did it Y/N! And it was easy. Nothing has been that easy before!” He laughed putting me down.
“What can I say? I have a special touch.” We got back into the car. The sun had set while we were in the office. The ride was quiet, JJ messed with the radio the whole way back to the Chateau, flipping the station every thirty seconds, nothing peaking his interest. When we made our way back to the Chateau, We both sat on the folded out couch, exhausted.
I placed the maps and took the sticky note from JJ on the counter. We went through the first map, from the night of the storm, seeing if any of the liners were running late, and possibly stopped their track because of the storm. We looked at all the times, the boat type, path and numbers, marking the Phantoms coordinates on the map, and drawing a path and radius. We were sorting it all out until later into the night.
“Okay, As much as I want to work on this, I can’t keep my eyes open anymore” JJ collapsed onto the table for dramatic effect.
“Alright Alright. It’ll still be here tomorrow. We’ll work on it tomorrow alright?” JJ lazily saluted to me. I walked into John B’s room, the same wave of nausea hit me, just as it had the night before. I quickly changed and left to go to the bathroom. I saw JJ standing shirtless in the bathroom brushing his teeth. I stood, leaning against the frame of the bathroom.
“If you took a picture it would last longer” JJ joked.
“Oh. Haha. I’m waiting for my turn to brush my teeth.” JJ just moved to hand me my toothbrush and the toothpaste, then stepped to the side. I slid past him and made my way to the sink. I looked in the mirror as he finished up brushing his teeth.
“So, Are we sharing a bed again tonight?” Any other time I would have thought he was being a smart ass, but there was a genuine tone to his voice. “Because I don't mind the company” I just nodded, before finishing up brushing my teeth. I didn’t want to seem like a baby, but the thought of sleeping in my dead dad’s bed, or my missing brothers, just felt wrong right now. I laid down next to JJ, mirroring his position. We both stared up at the dark ceiling.
“What are you thinking about?” I asked him.
“That John B is really gonna owe me one when we find his ass.” JJ laughed.
I turn on my side to face him. “What if we don’t?” My voice cracked, giving me up as tears started to fall down my face again.
“Hey now.” JJ turned and pulled me into his chest, wrapping his arms around me. “We will. You and your detective skills, and me with, well I don't know, but we’ll find him ok?”
I just nodded into his chest. I put one arm over his side, letting him know I was comfortable. I just mumbled out a soft “ok.”
“Alright, We worked hard today, let’s get some sleep alright”
I slowly started to fall asleep, the long day had taken a toll on me. Before I completely fell asleep I felt JJ place a kiss into my hair and rest his head on top of mine, leaving me to smile against his chest like an idiot.

Chapter 11: Surprise
A/N: I know it’s been a hot minute since I posted a chapter. My bad. Thank you all for the large amount of support, it means the world <3. As always Requests/ asks/ and DMs are open:)
Description: John B’s Sister comes home from staying with their mom, only to find out that her brother is missing and her dad was murdered. JJ may have just lost his best friend. Her and JJ have to figure out what to do and how to pick up the pieces.

Pope quickly hurried JJ outside and down to the dock to cool off. I heard a small part of their conversation as they left. Pope told JJ that Rafe couldn't “Rot in a jail cell if he was dead.” That’s what I wanted. Rafe looked bad, and it served him right. He was a terrible person. He ran off my brother, and even his own sister to get away with his crimes.
“So you were going to the Country Club to look for a job?” Kie questioned. She began to pack up the first aid kit. Still standing beside me, but she didn’t look up in my direction.
“Yea” I swallowed, “Umm, I mean I’m gonna need money to keep things running over at the Chateau. I’d rather be here than back on the mainland. Mom has trips planned all summer, so it’s either on my own there or on my own here.” I finished with a sarcastic laugh.
I saw Kie’s expression soften. She walked around the desk that I was still sitting on. When she opened the drawer it screeched so loud that I felt my eyebrows scrunch together. “Sorry,” Kie said. She walked over and leaned against the wall in front of me facing the desk. “One of the Waitresses, Vannessa, quit this morning, so there’s an opening.” She paused and looked at me for a reaction. “And If you can handle those jerks at the Country Club summer after summer I’m pretty sure you can handle a few tourons.” She joked, causing both of us to laugh. “I know it doesn’t begin to make up for what I said the other day at the Chateau, but I am really sorry.”
I smiled in her direction, opening my arms. She made the short stride to the desk and we wrapped each other in our arms. We pulled away shortly after. “So what do you say? Wanna work at the infamous Wreck?” She smiled and winked in my direction.
“Yes, I’d love to.” I smiled. I knew her father wasn’t too fond of her friends, so I was hoping that he would be just as on board with this as Kie was.
“Okay, so I hate to do this to you but you’ll have to start pretty soon, the business has picked up since the ferry started running again. Follow me.” She said, leading us into a back room. “Here are two shirts, if you need more just let me know, and an apron and a book, you can leave those in the back room if you need to though.” We walked out into the dining room where Pope and JJ were standing by the door. “Got it?” Kie said with a smile.
“I think so,” I said looking at JJ who was poking at Pope, annoying him. I was glad Pope was able to calm JJ down from his short temper. I saw Kie look between JJ, who was now smiling like an idiot at me, and me, but she didn’t say anything. “So you’ll call when I get my first shift?” I questioned.
“Yes ma’am.” She faked a professional tone, causing both of us to laugh. “Should be in the next few days.”
“Alright. I’m gonna head home, today has been long enough, and its barley even the afternoon” I said rolling my eyes. “I just wanna relax now.” I gave Kie a sheepish smile and waved, walking over to the boys.
Pope seemed to get the memo as he waved to me. “Hope that cheek gets better, fighter.” He laughed before going to join Kie.
“JJ make sure she ices that” Kie yelled to the two if you. JJ just held up two fingers and jokingly saluted her as we walked out the door.
The short walk through the parking lot to my car was silent. Heavy, like everything, seemed to be these days. I tried to put my key in the door, but it was proving difficult. I had not realized how bad I was shaking until now. JJ noticed my hesitation before walking over to my side. I held my hand out in front of me, extending my fingers to see just how bad my hands were shaking. JJ reached up and grabbed my shaking hand in his. I looked up at him, scrunching my eyebrows together.
“Why don’t you let me drive? You’re still quite shaken up Y/N.” I just nodded and placed the keys in his open hand. A smile formed on his face as he handed me the white paper bag in his hand.
“What is this?” I asked. I didn’t see him holding it earlier.
“I may have snuck some food when Mr.C wasn’t looking.” He smiled, sending me a wink before nodding at the car. I walked around to the side and got in. I sat the warm food on my lap. The engine sputtered as it finally turned over and started up. JJ and I both laughed a little, relieved that it started.
Soft Reggae music filled the car, playing off the local radio station. The windows were rolled down, letting the salty air blow through the air. I looked over at JJ and the sun was hitting his face in a way that, not to be dramatic, looked angelic. At this moment things felt almost normal. It felt as if Rafe and Ward Cameron didn’t exist like John B would be waiting for us at the Chateau like Dad would be there with him. JJ pulled me from my quickly spiraling daydream, “I got you chicken tenders because I know you have the taste of a five year old.” He laughed.
“I prefer the term ‘sophisticated palette,’” I spoke in a fake posh accent, instantly regretting it. “I’m never doing that again,” I said as we both laughed. JJ and I crossed the bridge taking us back over to the cut. “Kie gave me a job at The Wreck,” I said.
JJ looked my way quickly before turning his eyes back toward the road. “So y’all made up or?” JJ trailed off. His limited knowledge of girls and their arguments showing.
I laughed softly before continuing. “Yes,” I paused. “Don’t get me wrong I am still upset that she wasn’t supportive from the beginning, but she did apologize.”
“I’m glad she did. Honestly, you bring out a soft side in her. I think I can count on one hand the number of times that I’ve heard of Kie apologize to anyone” JJ laughed.
“Did you tell Pope about last night?” I asked.
“Oh, I didn’t think that they would take it well.” He said a hand reaching up to scratch the back of his neck.
“Okay good. I was talking with Pope about how he was feeling, and I just don't want to give them a false sense of hope, ya know?” I looked out the window at the trees that lined the road.
“Give them a false sense of hope?” JJ questioned, but quickly laughed. “Right, you were talking about the map and John B.” His face turned bright red.
“Yes JJ,” I said smiling, realizing that he thought I was talking about the new dynamic forming between the two of us. . “I hope that you aren't running around kissing and telling JJ,” I said playfully pushing his shoulder.
“Oh don’t you worry princess. Your secret’s safe with me.” He said, causing us both to laugh again. His hand reached over to grab mine, which had managed to stop shaking significantly and giving it a reassuring squeeze. JJ had managed to help relax my mind by being his usual joking self. The rest of the short ride back to the Chateau returned to the soft music playing from the radio. JJ’s hand at some point had left mine and was now resting on my leg just above my knee, not that I was complaining.
When we arrived at the house JJ helped me carry in the food as we sat on the couch on the back porch, overlooking the water, while we ate. On the table in front of us sat our meals and the map from the night before. JJ and I were looking over it just to see if we could find any other potentials as promising as the cargo ship. We didn’t.
JJ finished his meal by pushing the last fry into his already full mouth. He chewed while tapping the line repeatedly. “This ship” He paused to swallow, “is it.”
I followed the line down the ship onto the edge of the page where it stopped, just as it moved across to the South Carolina Border. I grabbed the ship log. “It says here that the ship was making one stop in Nassau.” I looked over at JJ, who had leaned back, kicking his feet up onto the table.  “So what’s next?” I questioned, leaning back into the worn couch.
“Me?” JJ pointed to his face, a shocked look on his face. “This is all on you Nancy Drew, I’m like scooby doo, here for comedic relief and treats.” His voice coated with sarcasm as he sent a wink in my direction.
“Well Scooby, you need to do something to earn your treats, don’t you? You don’t get rewarded for sitting there and being pretty.” I rolled my eyes.
JJ shifted closer to me on the couch. “So you think I’m pretty?” He laughed.
My face turned bright red. “Maybe? Don’t push it.”
“You look tired,” JJ said softly. He laid into me, resting against my chest, looking up at my face.
“Wow, I call you pretty and you call me tired. I don’t know if this is going to work buddy.” I let out a sarcastic laugh.
“You know what I mean Y/N.” He reached up with his hand, running the back of his fingers across the bruise and cut on my face, his eyes intense on the mark. He then moved to trace the now darkened bruise on my neck. I felt my breath hitch in my throat as he did. His eyes moved quickly to meet mine. We seemed locked in that position, looking into each other’s eyes. I felt like I was searching for something. I was always seeming to be searching for something. I saw his eye flick down to my mouth, where I subconsciously, licked my lips.
JJ took that as a cue to move forward. He pressed his lips against mine. The kiss was gentle at first, but quickly became more heated. He moved from his position. He used his legs to crawl on top of me, situating himself between my legs. One of his arms holding himself up, the other found its way to my waist. The intimacy of the moment only making things hotter. The kiss was becoming sloppier, as my hands found my way into JJ’s hair, messing it up. JJ’s mouth started to move. He started my chin and up my jaw towards my ear, opposite of the bruises. His other hand came up to cradle my face. His fingers hit right at the cut on my cheek. I pulled away with a faint ‘ouch’.
That was enough of JJ to stop completely and pull away. He moved to sit up, pulling me with him. “That was”
“Hot.” I finished for him, with a smile. I could feel that my face was hot and probably the color of a tomato.
He smiled at me, biting his now red and swollen lips. “You know, I’m really liking getting used to this.” He chuckled pointing between the two of us. “I’ll be right back.” He stated, before standing up and walking back into the chateau. I looked out over the water. The wind was a bit heavier today, causing the sound to be rougher than usual. The small waves were lapping against the shore, mixed with the soft rustle of the leaves, making a rather calming noise. I laid back down, feeling a wave of exhaustion run over me. I closed my eyes and let the feeling of relaxation take over.
I heard the porch door swing open, signaling that JJ had returned, but I kept my eyes closed. My eyes shot open, causing me to sit up when something cold landed on my face. I reach to grab it, finding JJ smiling and holding a bag of frozen peas. I gave him a questioning look.
“What Kie said that you need to ice your face?” He said, shrugging. JJ crawled back to my side. His head resting on my chest once again. He put the peas over my injured eye. “I also didn’t want to bother you too much. You should sleep” He said with a faint smile.
I nodded, letting my eyes close, one hand holding the peas to my eyes, the other mindlessly in JJ’s hair. I focused back on the sound of the waves, and the rustling leaves, or the way that JJ had pulled his arm around me bringing me closer, or the way that his hand was drawing small patterns on my back through my shirt. I felt myself beginning to drift off into sleep.
I was woken up to a loud banging noise. I jumped but felt JJ’s weight still on top of me. “JJ, Wha–.” My words quickly interrupted as JJ quickly put his hand over my mouth. I saw his eyes wide as he sunk further into the couch.
“We need to get out of here,” He said, in a voice so soft it was barely a whisper. “Follow me.” He slid off the couch, grabbing the keys off the table, staying low. He grabbed my hand, pulling me with him. I followed his actions.
A loud booming voice made me jump once again. “Surprise Maybank.” I heard a crash of something breaking inside. ”Payback time you little Bitch.”
I looked at JJ, with wide eyes and he cursed, trying to pull us off the porch. I heard doors opening and closing doors loudly in the house while banging on the wall. JJ was slowly pushing open the screen door so that it wouldn’t screech. He held it so it wouldn’t slam as we continued down the steps.
The loud male voice boomed again. “Went to see your old man Maybank.” I looked at JJ as his head snapped up to look at the house. JJ pushed me up against the house as the male figure exited through the back porch door. I looked at JJ, I could feel how wide my eyes were, but what scared me the most was the fear in JJ’s eyes. “Said you hadn’t been around in a few days. Thought you’d be here, I’d hate to go rough up your girl Kiara, or your boy Pope who tried to choke out Country Club.” I saw the man standing on the steps of the porch. I shot JJ a questioning glance at what the man had just said. He was short, but fairly muscular. He wore a bandana covering his lower half of his face, black curly hair falling around it. In his hand was a short barrel shotgun, one he obviously wasn’t afraid to use. JJ quickly pulled us around the corner of the house before the man could see us.
“JJ what the hell is going on?” I whisper. JJ just holds up a hand to silence me. He’s still standing in front of me, my back to the outside wall of the house. He moved to look over around the corner. I heard the door to the house shut again and I was being pulled toward the trees surrounding the house. I looked to the driveway catching a glimpse of the blue charger parked there before I was pulled by my hand to the woods by JJ.

Pope Heyward X Reader
A/N: This is my first Pope fic, so let me know what you think. I was super hesitant to write this because I feel like there is still so much that we don’t know about pope other that this pressure that his dad puts on him and his own pressure because of the scholarship. I am really hoping that we learn more about Pope in season 2. Anyways, as always my requests/asks/DMS are open. Hope you enjoy and let me know what you think:) PS: The flashback is in Italics:)
Description: The Reader and Pope have been together for a while now, but it seems like both of them are getting pulled apart from one another. Their lives and their futures seem to be getting in the way of their relationship. Based on the song Bad Timing by Rhys Lewis.

You're heading out, as I'm coming home But I haven't seen you in forever
I walked in the chateau after the dreadfully long shift waitressing at the country club. Today was a terrible day at work, the older men just seemed to not give it a rest, I got two orders wrong, leading me to be yelled at, and having food spilled over me multiple times. I wanted to chill out on the HMS pogue with my boyfriend and our friends. I looked around at the scattered mess that the other pogues had left out in front of me. I shook my head, knowing that all the boys were to blame for the mess. I hear voices outside as I make my way out through the back porch. My plans for the remainder of the day were crushed when I saw JJ and Pope on Heyward’s delivery boat at the dock. John B was standing and talking to them. “Ahh, there she is, our favorite country club waitress!” JJ yelled to me as I made my way across the yard. I saw Pope giving JJ a sharp look, but JJ just laughed it off.
“Hello boys” I chimed giving John B a hug. I saw Pope leaning over the side of the boat. I stood on my tiptoes to give him a quick peck on the lips. “Are you heading out for deliveries?” I asked, looking at the stocked boat.
“Yea. I know you just got home and are tired. Why don’t you get some rest, we’ll meet up later tonight? Just us?” Pope questioned, in his normal awkward tone. We’d been together for almost a year, but every time Pope asked me to hang out just us two, he got nervous. Honestly, I thought it was adorable.
“Of course, baby. I miss you.” I put my hand on his cheek, making the moment a little more intimate. John B and JJ were bickering and focused on other things. “I feel like it’s been forever since I got you all to myself,” I said, fixing the collar of his loose Hawaiian shirt.
“I know, it’s been hard with work, but we’ll make up for it tonight.”
We steal a kiss, and you close the door I guess we're alone in this together
“Alright go, get your job done, I’ll be here when you get back.” I looked at John B for approval to stay around, he nodded his head.
“I’ll see you later,” He said, reaching down for another kiss. This one was a little more intimate than the last. He had his hands on either side of my face, while mine rested on his shoulders.
The boat started moving away from the dock, breaking us apart. “Y’all will have enough of that later. We got groceries to deliver.” JJ yelled speeding the boat away from the dock.
John B walked up to me, as we both waved bye to the boys. He threw his arm around my shoulders. John B was like the older brother I never had. I was an only child, as it seemed most of the pogues were. John B and I grew up together, living across the street from each other most of our lives. “What’s going on between you two?” He asked as we began to walk toward the hammocks. ”Things seemed…” He paused and looked in my direction, “Tense”
I settled into the hammock, kicking off the uncomfortable work shoes and lying back. “I had a shit day at work for one.” I smiled at John B. He knew that working at the country club was my least favorite of the jobs we picked up. “I wanted to hang out with Pope, Ya Know? I just feel like we never get to see each other. Our schedules never get to line up. We’re both trying to work so much to save up for college, and when we aren’t working it seems like we’re working on scholarship essays or studying. We both want to get off this island so bad that I think we aren’t taking the time to enjoy our time together. We’re together, but sometimes it just feels like we’re going through the motions.”
John B just nodded. I wondered if Pope had also talked to him about the way he had been feeling. “You never know what the Pope is thinking. He doesn’t show his emotions, you’re gonna have to talk to him Y/N. You can’t keep this to yourself. Relationships require communication” He settled into the chair beside me, throwing his feet up in the chair in front of him lying back. “Over the past few weeks, I’ve seen it tearing you apart.”
“Wow JB, that sounds like actual advice?” I laughed at the joke causing him to scoff and let our a sarcastic ‘haha”.
He continued and I knew what he was about to ask. “Have you told him about NC State yet?”
I took in a deep breath. “We haven’t had the time yet JB. We’re always with the pogues or its just fleeting moments where we kiss and pass each other by. We haven’t been alone for me to tell him.” I paused, swallowing the lump in my throat. “I was hoping to tell him tonight.”
John B just nodded letting silence fall over us. I looked up at the few clouds that were in the sky. I felt the breeze that came off the ocean and moved the clouds across the sky.
Well I miss the nights, we'd lie awake Both throwing shadows at the ceiling
One of the clouds was shaped loosely like a wolf, reminding me of the night Pope and I got together. Apparently everyone but Pope and I didn’t see it coming.
“Pope what is that supposed to be,” I asked looking at his hands, tangled together, trying to make a shadow on the tree using the firelight.
“It’s literally a jellyfish! See?” I moved his hands trying to get his hands to form in the shape. “See these are the Lappets” He wiggled his extended fingers out. “And this is the hood.” He raised the fist that was made by his other hand.
“You mean the stingy things” I tapped his moving fingers, “And the body bubble,” I said tapping his fist.
Pope rolled his eyes dropping his hands over his stomach. To put in laymen’s terms, then yes, Y/N, The stingy strings and the bubbly thing on top” He laughed. The sound was always music to my ears. Pope often took life very seriously. Getting him to relax, even if it was for a few moments was nice.
“Look” I held my hand up next to his, pressing my middle and ring finger to my thumb and sticking up my pointer and middle finger. “A wolf” I giggle. Pope knocked my hand down grabbing it in his. It took me back, Pope was hardly one to make the first move when it came to physical affection. I turned on my side, the dynamic of the hammock making it so that we were pressed against each other. Our faces were close to one another, I could feel his breath across my face. Our eyes flickering between each other’s eyes and lips.
“Can I kiss you?” Pope whispered. It was so soft that I wasn’t sure that I heard him correctly. I nodded my head subtly, but that was all Pope needed.
I felt his lips on mine, neither of us moved at first. Until I began to move my lips against him. I found myself surprised at how good he was at kissing. I felt my heartbeat quicken as the kiss progressed. I found one of my hands rested on his chest and one on the nape of his neck. His hand moving along my sides. We finally pulled away from one another, trying to catch our breath.
“Wow, a rare outburst of emotion Pope.” I joked.
I smiled looking up at the sky still. I love Pope with all my heart, but I had this sinking feeling that we were getting pulled into two different directions of life.
But life keeps getting between us And it's all too heavy to keep up anymore
I woke up when I felt a pair of arms making their way around me. I opened my eyes seeing the yellow hue of the air made by the setting sun. I must have slept through the remainder of the afternoon. I turned to face the boy smiling at him. Pope returned the smile back placing a kiss to my forehead. “Someone told me that you were going on a sunset beach walk tonight?” He laughed.
“Oh is that so?” I asked with a smile crossing my face. Pope held his hand out to help me get out of the hammock I had been sleeping in. I took his hand as he led us down the beach to our usual spot. Our spot was where we had walked to the night after we kissed at the Chateau. It was some larger rocks that Pope and I would climb up on and sit, sometimes for hours.
“How was delivering groceries with JJ?” I asked, nudging his shoulder, knowing JJ probably made it much harder than it had to be.
“Oh. It was practically a blast, the most fun I’ve had all summer” the sarcasm dripping off his words.
“No run-ins with Kooks?” I asked. It had become routine, making sure that the boys were okay after coming back from Figure 8.
“No. We got lucky today.” We had reached the rocks. Pope climbed up first, then reaching down to help me up to sit with him. The rock sat up higher on the beach, giving us the perfect view of the setting sun. The sky was starting to turn a range of orange and pink shades. A silence fell over Pope and I as we sat watching the sunset.
“I got into  NC State.” Pope’s head turned sharply to look at me, his eyes wide. “And I’m gonna go.”
“I’m happy for you.” He said, but I could tell there was something in his voice. “We’ll make it work.”
“Pope, you're gonna be at Western, and I’ll be at NC State, that’s like across the state. We’re growing apart,” I said in a whisper. I wasn’t trying to be devil’s advocate, but there was something about it
“What are you saying? We can’t keep up with each other?” Pope scoffed jumping off the rocks. I could sense the anger in his voice. I felt my breath get heavy. I didn’t want to have this discussion so soon, I didn’t want to ruin our summer.
“Pope stop!” I followed after him. “What does that mean?” I felt the tears start to prick at my eyes as he turned to face me. I saw the tear streaks making their way down his face as well.
We stuck by it, we kept trying But there's no fighting bad timing I wish we'd met each other five years later 'Cause I hate the way we're being torn apart
“Have you not noticed? We keep trying Y/N. Something always keeping us apart. Whether it was school or work, but now it’s our futures.” He moved closer to me.
“Pope I want to make this work!” I breathed out looking into his brown eyes, still lined with heavy tears. “We have to keep trying!”
He let out a shaky breath. “I don’t want to lose you. I hate how it feels like we’re being torn apart” He let his head drop to rest his forehead on mine.
“If only we could skip ahead to five years from now, start our lives off the island.” I smiled at Pope.
“I know that the timing is bad, but this summer is going to be the best summer of our lives,” Pope said putting his hand on my cheek. “I Promise.”
“As much as I want that.” I took a step back from him, removing myself from his embrace. “We need to figure out what is going to happen between us. Do you think we can make long distance work? And for the next four years? I’ll be at NC State and you’ll be at Western, that’s across the state Pope.” I reiterated,  dropping my head as I felt a sob make its way through my body. I was trying to hold it back. I didn’t want to lose Pope.
“They’ve got busses and we’ll have to come home for breaks? The state isn’t that big.” Pope paused before letting out a sigh and continuing, “I want to love you for the rest of my life Y/N,” Pope said. I looked up at him slowly. “We’ll make it work, we always do.” He moved forward to wrap his arms around me in a tight hug. I breathed in his scent. My senses filled with the smell of pine from a cologne that I bought him for his birthday. He was right, our lives were so integrated. I couldn’t see myself loving anyone else, ever. Pope was my weird, corpse obsessed boyfriend. I couldn’t think of anyone who could make me smile like him, that was as loyal as him, or as caring as him.
“The timing to fall in love couldn’t be worse,” I said with a slight giggle. I stepped up on my tiptoes to press my lips to his. It was a soft and gentle kiss, but all the emotions from our fight were poured into it. I felt the pain that he had from our impending departure, to how we felt about being separated for so long.
“There's no fighting bad timing,”  He said as I rested my head on his chest looking out at the horizon that the sun had just slipped past.
