I genuinely love that Biana breaks the character stereotype of "girly girl characters cant be badass" and that she EMBRACES her love of frilly dresses but isn't shallow about it, she simply loves make up and doesn't change herself for anyone even when other people concede her for being "princess pretty pants". I mean, she knew at some point that Keefe wasn't into her and that her interests didn't match his, she could've easily forced herself to be more like Sophie, but she didnt. thats some actual boss behaviour. the "i'm not like other girls" trope where the girl only pretends to hate the "girly" stuff to look "cooler" should really be thrown out the window and never return tbh, bc it's somehow NEVER executed properly without coming off as shallow or demeaning the "other girls" cough cough I am looking at you Piper Mclean.

But i'd say Sophie is a good written character for that trope tbh, she doesn't like frilly dresses and is genuine about it BUT she doesn't condemn Biana for liking them and even tries to like it to make her happy. she just genuinely doesn't have time for all that since my girl barely gets any sleep, makeup would probably be the last thing on her mind. Also, Sophie stands out a lot in the elven community because of her eyes, it would be obvious that she would avoid being fancy to make herself not seen/noticed.

i am mentally preparing myself for the keeper crew to go to the forbidden cities in stellarlune and for there to be at least a page and a half where they find a hamilton ad and discuss it and sophie has to explain what musicals are and who hamilton was and biana or fitz or someone else is like “why would they make a musical about this shitty guy” and sophie is like “i don’t know! why are we even talking about this” because if i am counting correctly the keeper timeline is currently in late 2014 / early 2015 which is close enough to the boom of hamilton for shannon to reference it and for that i am terrified.

Fitz is not the villian. Everyone makes him out to be when really he’s just got no way of dealing with his feelings, and he’s literally not abusive. Like do you guys think Sophie would have put up with it if he was?  she’s better then that, we’ve seen her grow over the series and by now she seriously doesn’t take anything from anyone. 

And you guys forget about how young they all are, too. He’s a teenager, he’s going to mess up. And every time he has he’s been genuinely sorry about it, I don’t care if you hold it against him, he was sorry and if you refuse to see that then too bad. Also people think Keefe is just so perfect and fitz is like the devil so let’s look at some things about Keefe

- Told ro about the sodex kiss when it clearly wasn’t his story to tell and was something sophie trusted him with

-  doesn’t respect her boundaries half the time

- has put sophie in danger

Sooo... 

I’m not saying i hate keefe. I’m saying not every character is perfect, and you should let people like who they like, no matter your opinion on them, and to stop saying messed up things about people who like certain characters.

Saying things about people’s ships or rude things to someone’s face might seem funny to you... until you’re on the recieving end and it’s not so fun.

if you were the kotlc author, what would change?

oo this is a great question hmmm

divide the attention all the characters get, first of all. some have way too much screen time, some don’t have enough. (talking about keefe and dex here 👀) i would also probably try to fix the mischaracterization for a lot of characters. even though shannon messenger wrote the books, some of the character seemed seriously OOC, probably to push her rushed sokeefe forward. and i’d probably explore a lot more into other characters backgrounds and feelings, because focusing on one character for the entirety of 10 books is boring and annoyingly consistent. (keefe sencen- WHAT WHO SAID THAT) the side characters definitely need to be explored more, like marella for example. she’s such an interesting character, but we only get fed little scraps about her and how she feels. i seriously want to know the other characters emotions. like i understand the effect of only having sophie’s POV, making us infer what the characters feel and think based on their words and actions, but it’s not working all that well. i would do ANYTHING just for a different character’s POV. (NOT SOPHIE SLANDER!!) it’s important for the readers to understand the characters, and we cant really do much of it when an author only focuses on a few characters and their development. there’s soo much interesting lore and stuff to explore, but shannon decides to center her attention on one thing and keep digging that one hole deeper. dig more holes pleasee. there’s so much that i could change and it’s on the tip of my tongue i just dont know how to put it into words😭
