The Exclusive Interview with Kurt Kahl of Kia Design Center America

President Trump continues to use inflammatory language as many Americans protest the unlawful death of George Floyd and the unjust treatment of black Americans by our justice system. As the protests have grown, so has the intensity of the president’s rhetoric. He has gone so far as to make a shocking promise: to send active-duty members of the U.S. military to “dominate” protesters in cities throughout the country — with or without the consent of local mayors or state governors. On Monday, the president previewed his approach on the streets of Washington. He had 1,600 troops from around the country transported to the D.C. area, and placed them on alert, as an unnamed Pentagon official put it, “to ensure faster employment if necessary.” As part of the show of force that Trump demanded, military helicopters made low-level passes over peaceful protesters — a military tactic sometimes used to disperse enemy combatants — scattering debris and broken glass among the crowd. He also had a force, including members of the National Guard and federal officers, that used flash-bang grenades, pepper spray and, according to eyewitness accounts, rubber bullets to drive lawful protesters, as well as members of the media and clergy, away from the historic St. John’s Episcopal Church. All so he could hold a politically motivated photo op there with members of his team, including, inappropriately, Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper and Gen. Mark A. Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Looting and violence are unacceptable acts, and perpetrators should be arrested and duly tried under the law. But as Monday’s actions near the White House demonstrated, those committing such acts are largely on the margins of the vast majority of predominantly peaceful protests. While several past presidents have called on our armed services to provide additional aid to law enforcement in times of national crisis — among them Ulysses S. Grant, Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson — these presidents used the military to protect the rights of Americans, not to violate them. As former leaders in the Defense Department — civilian and military, Republican, Democrat and independent — we all took an oath upon assuming office “to support and defend the Constitution of the United States,” as did the president and all members of the military, a fact that Gen. Milley pointed out in a recent memorandum to members of the armed forces. We are alarmed at how the president is betraying this oath by threatening to order members of the U.S. military to violate the rights of their fellow Americans. President Trump has given governors a stark choice: either end the protests that continue to demand equal justice under our laws, or expect that he will send active-duty military units into their states. While the Insurrection Act gives the president the legal authority to do so, this authority has been invoked only in the most extreme conditions when state or local authorities were overwhelmed and were unable to safeguard the rule of law. Historically, as Secretary Esper has pointed out, it has rightly been seen as a tool of last resort. Beyond being unnecessary, using our military to quell protests across the country would also be unwise. This is not the mission our armed forces signed up for: They signed up to fight our nation’s enemies and to secure — not infringe upon — the rights and freedoms of their fellow Americans. In addition, putting our servicemen and women in the middle of politically charged domestic unrest risks undermining the apolitical nature of the military that is so essential to our democracy. It also risks diminishing Americans’ trust in our military — and thus America’s security — for years to come. As defense leaders who share a deep commitment to the Constitution, to freedom and justice for all Americans, and to the extraordinary men and women who volunteer to serve and protect our nation, we call on the president to immediately end his plans to send active-duty military personnel into cities as agents of law enforcement, or to employ them or any another military or police forces in ways that undermine the constitutional rights of Americans. The members of our military are always ready to serve in our nation’s defense. But they must never be used to violate the rights of those they are sworn to protect.

Frederick A “Fritz” Cohen (1904–1967) was a German pianist and composer whose great contribution to ballet was as the composer for Kurt Jooss’ ballets.
Born
Born in Bonn, Cohen studied musical theater in university and found his first jobs in various opera companies and theatre groups around Würzburg and Münster. His first work for Jooss was the score for the ballet Tragedy in 1926, and he struck up a working partnership with Jooss throughout the 20s, eventually leading to his incorporation into Jooss’ Folkwangschule company in 1932 as pianist and music director.
This addition coincided with Jooss’ move to England as the Nazi party began pressuring him to fire or turn over the Jewish members of the company, beginning in 1932 and continuing through 1933. The decade of collaboration that followed was fruitful for both Cohen and Jooss. Jooss wrote many of his most successful ballets, almost all scored by Cohen. Notable among these are Suite (1929), The Green Table (1932), The Prodigal Son (1933), The Mirror (1935), and A Spring Tale (1939).
The Green Table is a biting satire of the doomed peace negotiations of the 1930s, and is particularly notable for several reasons. Firstly, it is Cohen and Jooss’ most popular work, boasting several different recordings and a robust body of critical work concerning it. Secondly, it is the first work to be fully notated in Labanotation. Lastly, and most interestingly, it is an argument for the existence of abstract Expressionism in dance, and an interesting precursor to the works of Pina Bausch and other Tanztheater works.
Besides original compositions, Cohen was also frequently employed as an arranger for works by other composers such as Strauss and Purcell. His arrangements are still often used when setting these works to dance.
Cohen worked with Jooss until the disbandment of the Ballets Jooss in 1942, upon which he returned to the opera world and worked as a director for many years, both freelance and with the Julliard Opera Theatre. He and his wife Elsa Kahl Cohen (a former Ballets Jooss dancer) left a body of papers to the Dartington Hall Trust Archive after their deaths which relate to their own careers and the inner workings of the Ballets Jooss.

Celebrating Kurt Gödel's and Albert Einstein's anniversaries in Vienna: Time travel is mathematically imaginable
Two events that have had a strong influence on the world of science are celebrating an anniversary this year: the decisive review of Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity is 100 years old. Furthermore, 70 years ago Kurt Gödel proved that theory of relativity is compatible with closed time lines. This Gödel’s rotating universe shows how time travel is at least mathematically imaginable.
On these anniversaries, the Kurt Gödel Society is organizing the international conference “Kurt Gödel´s Legacy: Does Future Lie in The Past?” at the University of Vienna from July 25 to 27, 2019.
The life of Kurt Gödel, considered the greatest logician since Aristotle, is closely linked to Vienna and the Vienna Circle, whose heirs the organisers of the conference can be understood today - from research fields such as logic, mathematics, computer science, physics and philosophy.
Logic, Physics, Philosophy
Terms such as time and space or causality also determine the philosophical discussions on quantum mechanics, a theory that cast doubt on the notion of absolute objective reality. Like the theory of relativity and Kurt Gödel's incompleteness theorems together with Universe, quantum physics shook foundations that had previously been considered immovable.
Since reality is a partial and incomplete representation of physical, biological, psychological and social reality, this uncertainty affects all areas of science and its pursuit of truth, laws and knowledge. The conference brings together some of the world's leading personalities in the fields of mathematics, physics, computer science, philosophy and logic.
Among them is Nobel Laureate Rainer Weiss, who received the 2017 Nobel Prize in Physics for his discovery of gravitational waves. This finding was the last directly undiscovered prediction of general relativity and confirms their predictions about space-time distortion in the context of large-scale cosmic events.
After being out of the public eye for 15 years, philosopher Palle Yourgrau links the two jubilee events and talks about the philosophical implications of Gödel´s and Einstein's work, which dashed the hopes of many former mathematicians and philosophers, including thinkers of the stature of David Hilbert, Bertrand Russell and Ludwig Wittgenstein.
Another speaker, Juliet Floyd, is a philosopher who relates various fields of science: she compares the significance of Einstein theory for 20th-century philosophy with the effect of the Turing machine on computer science. Her lecture “In and Out of Mind: Wittgenstein and Gödel, Post and Turing” is open to the general public as the 27th Wiener Kreis Vorlesung.
Another lecture, which will be open to the general public, will be given by mathematician and cosmologist John D. Barrow of Cambridge University. He asks what distinguishes natural laws from their results, how the complexity of the world hides elegant mathematical symmetries, and how chaos can arise from order. This lecture is in memory of Wolfgang Rindler, an Austrian physicist specializing in the theory of relativity and its effects on cosmology, who died in February 2019.
Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Mechanics
Organizer Prof. Matthias Baaz, TU Vienna, who, together with Georg Gottlob and Algexander Leitsch, institutionalized Logic and Computer Science at the Vienna University of Technology in 1980s: "Just as Einstein and Gödel created new fields of research with the progress in the field of logic in computer science we can once again steer the path towards explainable artificial intelligence (AI).” AI researcher Toby Walsh and science philosopher Reinhard Kahle investigate developments in artificial intelligence and the demands for explainable and responsible AI computers that can learn independently without corrupt or distorted data.
Another discipline which is in the search for the holy grail is quantum informatics: Quantum physicists Markus Aspelmeyer and Wolfgang Schleich as well as mathematician and physicist Marika Taylor, also a close collaborator of Stephen Hawking, will explain the current state of research in this field.
The conference will be complemented by a special exhibition on the life and work of Kurt Gödel, which will be supplemented and opened to the general public by the Vienna Circle Society under the direction of Karl Sigmund, University of Vienna.
The conference is supported by the University of Vienna, the Austrian Academy of Sciences, the research platform TURIS, the Vienna Center for Logic and Algorithms at the TU Vienna, the Department Vienna Circle and the Vienna Circle Society.

  MATRIX-Fortsetzung?
Na so was! Was meint ihr?
  Remake: SPAWN
Nun arbeitet J.D. Dillard an der Sache. Konkretes ist noch nicht bekannt.
  THE PURGE 4
Also ob das was wird?
Netflix stellt letzten Orson Welles Film fertig
THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WIND gesichert.
Doch was ist da los?

  THE BATMAN – ohne Regisseur/ NIGHTWING-Solofilm
  VEMOM: Spider-Man Spin-off erhält Startdatum
Immerhin!
