Lackadaisy theorizing at 3am

The following paragraphs come from the notes folder in my computer. It was written late at night after I had finished binging every ounce of Lackadaisy content I could find. Starved for content, I obsessively attempted to figure out whatever is happening with the plot, and failed. But hopefully my crackhead thought process is entertaining for anyone out there also interested in the comic as well as offering their own insights...

I believe the same gun Mordecai was given by Atlas (revolver) on the train is given(?) to Mitzi in the flashback referring to “what happened to Atlas” that was only between them. We know it isn’t Mordecai’s gun because he uses only a Colt 1911 (whatever his pistol is called). The flashback is probably a red herring.

We know Atlas and Mitzi’s relationship was on the decline before his death. Atlas’s “habit of picking strays” is described a lot like manipulation, and he is also described as Machiavellian. But Mordecai tells his the gem thief that it wasn’t Mitzi – he could be lying, but what good would that be for a man he plans on killing? Mordecai is called Atlas’s “golden boy” and “little shadow”, context says they were close. Atlas is compared to Leblanc (swamp spirit) as Mordecais’s savior, who is benevolent, saving him from his past and giving him a new future. Sera says that without “him” he is lost again. So why would Mordecai kill or help kill Atlas? He is clearly lost without him, also plain offended when Sera claims he has no problem turning on people.

I don’t think it was Asa who killed Atlas. His character bio says “…Asa may be remorseful about the fate of his old friend, Atlas, but with looming troubles of hi own, he’s got little time to dwell on it.” Asa and Atlas were known to be sort of friends, and he doesn’t seem actively aggressive towards Mitzi’s attempts at business. Asa may be a gangster, but he’s not exactly the mastermind scheming type.

So, the Feds are in town. Dom Drogo is very aware of the Marigolds as the top gang, less aware of Lackadaisy as he considers them “the vanquished empire”. He is an overly-friendly and observant fella. Drogo has been meeting with the guy Mordecai interrogates, for seemingly no good reason, as all the information about the Marigolds is already known, but for some reason they stuck their neck out for it. Asa is trying to clean something up. He is sending Mordecai and the Savoys to tie up and inordinate amount of loose ends having to do with people connected to the Feds. The Feds and Asa are preoccupied with something we currently have no context for.

“It was a private affair. Or so I thought.” I’m thinking Mordecai and Mitzi know (or at least think they know) what happened to Atlas. They have been keeping it between them, most likely for a good reason. I doubt they had anything directly to do with Atlas’s demise. Mordecai is surprised that Asa Sweet might know something of what happened to Atlas, making him uneasy. There might be more to what happened to Atlas than just what Mordecai and Mitzi are involved in. That something may be tied to what the Feds are investigating, and what Asa is worried about.

On a side note, I’ve thought through any involvement the Savoys might have and I don’t think they have any in the wider conspiracy. I think they just like money and messing with Mordecai. When they broke into his interrogation session all suspicious, I’m assuming that was the aforementioned “jus business” because Mordecai was acting uncharacteristically interested in their hit, or in his own words, “unprofessional’’.

On a side note regarding the kneecapping incident, I’m guessing that Mordecai was trying to convince Viktor that with Atlas gone he is no longer stuck in gang life and should take the opportunity to retire, and uh shot him, preventing Viktor from being entirely useful muscle as further incentive. So.. he cares?

After all of this I still have no idea what might have happened to Atlas. Or even if his death is that important for what will happen in the comic’s later run. Suicide with foul play? Anyone got any ideas? Most importantly, what is the index of forbidden dressings and condiments?

INDIE Animation excitement spotlight: Lackadaisy

So I just kind of recently made a post listing some real cool and awesome indie animated / animation shorts also works that I'm super elated to check out this 2023. One of them I'm most interested to see and want to go on little more details about these Bootleggers kitties that called Lackadaisy.

Now for those of you who don’t know or have just recently heard about this up and coming long-awaited animation project thats been in the works for some time. The story takes in 1920s America, specifically in St. Louis Missouri during prohibition era when all alcohol was OutLaw and completely illegal. While the booze might be banned and its still doesn't stop folks from trying to get their drink on, in the most creatives of ways...and crimeful ways at that. And that's where our main crew of bootlegging cats comes in to help out with the high supplies demands. We got the artistic and musically experience and Wild unhinged boy Rocky Rickaby.

We also have little miss firecracker and sweet but also full of a lot of spunk. Ivy Peppers.

And here we got our cute baby face ginger boy of deeply repressed rage, Rocky cousin Calvin "Freckle" McMurray. There's so many other just as incredible and amazingly great characters apart of this series, but I don't want to make this post way too overwhelming long (^o^;). But here's a quick look of the others in the animated short film style and trust me there just as good.

But seriously though, as someone who've just recently gotten into this series. Which I wished I had gotten into it way sooner...but better late then never. I'm so freaking ready! For the release of the short film and I deeply hope that the series will gain a lot more love and attention on it because its for real deserves it. Please go check out this new catty indie animated short coming this March! When I first saw the trailer I was immediately hooked. From the super crisp clean and good animation style to the great voice-acting , the music, also just the overall premise reminds me of Don Bluth earlier works during his golden days with An American Tail or The Secert of NiMH with a dash of Cats don't Dance. But Yea! I'm very hype for Lackadaisy. If you're interested in it too please checked out the main website were you can read up on the webcomic by the lovely Tracy J. Butler, although it isn't necessary for getting into the short film I still highly recommend it.

I personally cannot WAIT until the Lackadaisy official short comes out.

I have been following the project since it’s Kickstarter was announced, so I hadn’t even heard of it until that time, but boy oh BOY was I glad I did. I read the webcomic, and I’m so ready for this to be turned into an animated short. The characters are all completely different from one another and interact gloriously, the story is interesting and engaging, and holy fuck.....THE ART. The art of both the webcomic AND the upcoming short are just phenomenal, Tracy Butler is a VERY good artist.

For those who don’t know, “Lackadaisy” is a story created by a woman named “Tracy Butler” about mostly gangster cats in the 1920’s, who struggle to run an illegal speakeasy after the law of alcoholism was banned. After their former leader and founder “Atlas May” dies, the speakeasy is run by his wife Mitzi, with a colorful cast of characters, mainly including the loud and dimwitted yet smart Rocky, the shy and adorable yet frustrated Freckle, and the innocent yet quick and spunky Ivy. An animated short has been in the works since I think 2019, with there being a Patreon, a Twitter account, and a YouTube channel dedicated to content!

If you haven’t checked the webcomic out, I highly recommend it, and even if you’re not interested in it, at least look at the amazing art style, because it’s a gem. Also consider supporting the upcoming animated short by Patreon, I’ll put links below! But man, despite the short being in the works for a LONG while, I’m still very excited. Progress has certainly been made, and the behind the scenes concept art and animation peeks they upload on their YouTube channel delight me every single time, because MY GOD GUYS, the work of the indie animation crew and creators are spectacular. The colors, the visuals, it all reminds me of a Don Bluth movie, and I’m so glad we’re getting more mature adult cartoons. I genuinely can’t wait! 😻💕
