Comparing two Sol Maiden routes: Leslie's and Sigurd's

Both Leslie's route and Sigurd's route are Sol Maiden arc(S5), but I saw quite a contrast in how MC acted, and how that lead to the difference of metaphor.

Leslie's route: "STOP SELF DEPRECIATING"

Though she is clumsy, MC's not so terrible yet has soooo low self-esteem. MC keeps saying she's just a fake, and can't be a real Sol Maiden. Girl, who ever said like that? Leslie even said, "No, there's a reason why bow chose you" but she keep goes like "I'm pathetic".

On the 11th day, it was all dark and Leslie went to the forest, her mind was entirely broken and she couldn't do anything. If Chica hadn't dragged her along to the forest, I'm sure she would have just stayed there crying. Even in the forest, when her shoot didn't work well, she's like "so I'm useless after all," again. Leslie asked her to shoot together, so that's how they finally solved the problem.

Later, the MC says Leslie is her sun. Kinda expected. Leslie supports her very well, but she is busy self-deprecating almost all the time and relies emotionally too much on Leslie. "I'm gonna do it for him" "It was thanks to him I could do it" etc.

+ And about the bow. When Randolph gave her the bow saying now it's yours, she's like oh thanks! and accepts it.

Sigurd's route: "NICE WORK, GIRL"

MC was a bit clumsy at first but has surprisingly grown up through the route. Mel told MC that she's just a fake Sol Maiden for the festival, but when the dark creatures(?) goes on rampage and everyone is struggling, she goes, "Fake or not, I'm the Sol Maiden!" takes the bow and takes them down all. Cool!

When it was all dark on the 11th day and Sigurd and the two guys went to the forest, though she was worried 100%, she kept the bow and did what she could do. When she eventually went to the forest, she found Sigurd and the others almost dead, she saved them all, and then she shot the sun and literally saved the world. On a note, things were worse than Leslie's at this time. There's no Chica either. (She's gone rampage as well) If it was Leslie's MC, she would've ended up doing nothing after all.

In addition, Sigurd later said that the MC is his sun, and she thought he's like the moon. Unlike the other route, she is the sun. And she deserves this phrase. Ngl, she was a really cool and independent girl who saved Sigurd from darkness.

+ About the bow? When Randolph gave her the bow saying now it's yours, she's like nah, just keep it at the academy, I'll work hard from now on and wait until the next festival to see if I'm qualified as Sol Maiden at that time too.

P.S. I tend to use term MC when doing kind of an analysis like this, which is kinda more formal term. Liz is used as a rather friendly term, at least in my posts.

Alfonse Route Chapter 14 (9-13)

Last week on the Alfonse Route, Liz and The Bois start to make medicine, but they’re kind of failing at it, and then Elias arrives.

Elias brings the cavalry! Amelia, Guy, Luca, Cerim, Leslie, Joel, Azusa (BOO), Leon, Randy/Serge and Sigurd (who also graduated but came back to help on account of being better people than Shithead) came to help. I’m pretty sure that Alfonse’s tinyass office is holding the entire cast of Wizardess Heart sans Vincent, Glenn, Lucious, the professors, and villains (who weren’t also love interests). And also Mel, who has no good reason NOT to be here.

Side note, why is fucking AZUSA also better than Shithead now?

Aw. So Alfonse and Sigurd have a nice reunion, and Sigurd informs him that Elias told him about the situation in the academy and he came as fast as he could, proving that once again, Sigurd is superior to Shithead.

So they get to work, then they take a lunch break and everyone fights over sandwiches, like you do.

How? Did this happen? Who did he make out with?

Unfortunately, the same thought occurs to Zeus. Guy considers eating Caesar, and at that point I remember only about a quarter of the room knows that Caesar turns into a pig when he makes out with someone.

And then the plotline doesn’t get resolved. We never find out who Caesar kissed, why they kissed, and who kissed him to turn him back into a human.

We skip to nightfall. Liz steps outside the office to get some fresh air and ponder over the fact that somehow they still haven’t gotten enough magic power to make the medicine, which leads me to theorize that the extra push they need is just... Shithead. Which would be so fucking stupid. There’s literally no fucking way Shithead alone is more powerful than literally every other main dude and Amelia. That’s fifteen fucking people. I counted.

Alfonse joins Liz outside. They commiserate over being extremely worried about the fate of the entire academy. Alfonse despairs that they won’t have enough medicine for everyone and is not looking forward to choosing who to save and who not to save. All of which could have been avoided if Shithead had not been a privileged twat, but yknow. Liz and Alfonse resolve to move forward and do what they can.

The next morning, Liz collapses while infusing the potions with magic and uh...... now has the Black Robe Plague.

"...you have to wonder how she deals with it, yeah? I couldn't imagine being Quinn's roommate, too much pressure."

Somewhere down the row of benches, Venessa Ainsworth rose her head with a confused look, quietly turned her attention over towards the talking, and made a very confused sound. As, not last week, Scarlett had roped her into shoving their collective mess of a dorm room into their shared closet.

...and they thought it was too much pressure? And that Upperclassmen Marchetti was her roommate.

Leslie, who was seated next to her, quietly lifted a hand to press down on her head, ultimately drawing her attention back towards their shared Remedial Demonology homework.

Right, worries for another day perhaps...

"Do I want to know?"

Not that Aúclair had any room to judge, what with the way she was climbing over the railing of the balcony, but, sure enough, it didn't atop her from commenting on it.

A random girl in Luca Orlem's bed wasn't an unusual sight, no, but one that was fully dressed and obviously curled up in the aftermath of some form of emotional distress was, however, something rather new.

"Aren't you and Andersen supposed to be halfway to Felicià right now?" Luca offered back, just barely pulling back from the blanket in time to greet her.

"Substantial delay," Aúclair flicks her hand over her shoulder vaguely, before shrugging and making her way over to his roommates bed, "a stroke of luck, considering we left behind the books we were actually meant to bring along with us."

With that, she pulled out a rucksack from under Andersen's bed, threw it over her shoulder, and gave him a narrow eyed look.

"You know, I never took you for the shy type."

"Funny, I could say the same of Andersen and the emotionally dead."

"...Touchè, Orlem."

"I'm afraid, that, even if we do this, if we find this cure, once and for all, Randy will only hate me. And I don't know what's worse, never finding a cure, or living with the knowledge that he hates me with every fiber in his being."

Bernadette wisely did not comment on that admission, and simply held tight to Serge's shoulders.

Alfonse Route Chapter 8 (15-16), Chapter 9 (1-4)

Last week on the Alfonse Route, the “Zeus drags everyone to do stupid things at 3 am” continues until they end up in a graveyard reenacting the opening of every horror movie ever.

So Hugo’s here and for some fucking reason Liz is magically frozen and silenced. He spouts a bunch of stuff about a man and a goddess or whatever that’s probably supposed to be foreshadowing something but I’m too tired to care about. Then he disappears.

AND THEN ZOMBIES ATTACK

Didn’t we already know that? Weren’t we attacked by zombies literally in the first chapter?

Liz notices that one of the zombies is wearing a Gedonelune student uniform...

The way I GASPED.

Cerim and Leslie are hosting the trailer for the next chapter and they wonder if Elias is infected by the zombie disease, except I thought it was pretty obvious that he was faking? Idk.

So Chapter 9 begins with everybody being surprised that Elias is a zombie, even though I was sure that he was just faking for some reason because the sprite looked the same.

Then I remembered this is Solmare we’re dealing with and Liz doesn’t even have a proper sprite so I guess I was wrong. Liz remembers that Yukiya mentioned Elias was sick and got medicine from Alfonse, but then they.. dont explain why it didn’t work.

That doesn’t seem like normal zombie behavior.

Wha... Why.

So Enlightened Zombie Elias attacks them all with magic, and then everybody decides that they should kill Elias, except Liz who doesn’t want that to happen because he’s their friend. Wow, just.. screw all the other zombies because they weren’t your friends I guess lol. However Alfonse is also on the “Don’t Kill Elias” side of the debate. He tells Caesar to release the barrier when Elias stops his attacks.

Alfonse goes toward him, Liz tries to help but Alfonse makes Caesar trap her in a barrier and its super controlling but Im too tired to be properly mad about this lazy writing choice. Alfonse approaches Elias with his medicine. For some reason the medicine’s jar was locked by the magic word Mikhail. Alfonse casts his spell and turns all the zombies that aren’t named characters into.. sand. Yep.

Elias is still alive but he’s emo now or something.
