BY PARK MACDOUGALD
The “movement,” in turn, while it recruits from among students and other self-motivated radicals willing to put their bodies on the line, relies heavily on the funding of progressive donors and nonprofits connected to the upper reaches of the Democratic Party. Take the epicenter of the nationwide protest movement, Columbia University. According to reporting in the New York Post, the Columbia encampment was principally organized by three groups: Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), and Within Our Lifetime (WOL). Let’s take each in turn.
JVP is, in essence, the “Jewish”-branch of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement, backed by the usual big-money progressive donors—including some, like the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, that were instrumental in selling Obama’s Iran Deal to the public. JVP and its affiliated political action arm, JVP Action, have received at least $650,000 from various branches of George Soros’ philanthropic empire since 2017, $441,510 from the Kaphan Foundation (founded by early Amazon employee Sheldon Kaphan), $340,000 from the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, and smaller amounts from progressive donors such as the Quitiplas Foundation, according to reporting from the New York Post and NGO Monitor, a pro-Israel research institute. JVP has also received nearly $1.5 million from various donor-advised funds—which allow wealthy clients to give anonymously through their financial institutions—run through the charitable giving arms of Fidelity Investments, Charles Schwab, Morgan Stanley, Vanguard, and TIAA, according to NGO Monitor’s review of those institutions’ tax documents.
SJP, by contrast, is an outgrowth of the Islamist networks dissolved during the U.S. government’s prosecution of the Holy Land Foundation (HLF) and related charities for fundraising for Hamas. SJP is a subsidiary of an organization called American Muslims for Palestine (AMP); SJP in fact has no “formal corporate structure of its own but operates as AMP’s campus brand,” according to a lawsuit filed last week against AJP Educational Fund, the parent nonprofit of AMP. Both AMP and SJP were founded by the same man, Hatem Bazian, a Palestinian academic who formerly fundraised for KindHearts, an Islamic charity dissolved in 2012 pursuant to a settlement with the U.S. Treasury, which froze the group’s assets for fundraising for Hamas (KindHearts did not admit wrongdoing in the settlement). And several of AMP’s senior leaders are former fundraisers for HLF and related charities, according to November congressional testimony from former U.S. Treasury official Jonathan Schanzer. An ongoing federal lawsuit by the family of David Boim, an American teenager killed in a Hamas terrorist attack in 1996, goes so far as to allege that AMP is a “disguised continuance” and “legal alter-ego” of the Islamic Association for Palestine, was founded with startup money from current Hamas official Musa Abu Marzook and dissolved alongside HLF. AMP has denied it is a continuation of IAP.
Today, however, National SJP is legally a “fiscal sponsorship” of another nonprofit: a White Plains, New York, 501(c)(3) called the WESPAC Foundation. A fiscal sponsorship is a legal arrangement in which a larger nonprofit “sponsors” a smaller group, essentially lending it the sponsor’s tax-exempt status and providing back-office support in exchange for fees and influence over the sponsorship’s operations. For legal and tax purposes, the sponsor and the sponsorship are the same entity, meaning that the sponsorship is relieved of the requirement to independently disclose its donors or file a Form 990 with the IRS. This makes fiscal sponsorships a “convenient way to mask links between donors and controversial causes,” according to the Capital Research Center. Donors, in other words, can effectively use nonprofits such as WESPAC to obscure their direct connections to controversial causes.
Something of the sort appears to be happening with WESPAC. Run by the market researcher Howard Horowitz, WESPAC reveals very little about its donors, although scattered reporting and public disclosures suggest that the group is used as a pass-through between larger institutions and pro-Palestinian radicals. Since 2006, for instance, WESPAC has received more than half a million in donations from the Elias Foundation, a family foundation run by the private equity investor James Mann and his wife. WESPAC has also received smaller amounts from Grassroots International (an “environmental” group heavily funded by Thousand Currents), the Sparkplug Foundation (a far-left group funded by the Wall Street fortune of Felice and Yoram Gelman), and the Bafrayung Fund, run by Rachel Gelman, an heir to the Levi Strauss fortune and the sister of Democratic Rep. Dan Goldman. (A self-described “abolitionist,” Gelman was featured in a 2020 New York Times feature on “The Rich Kids Who Want to Tear Down Capitalism.”) In 2022, WESPAC also received $97,000 from the Tides Foundation, the grant-making arm of the Tides Nexus.
WESPAC, however, is not merely the fiscal sponsor of the Hamas-linked SJP but also the fiscal sponsor of the third group involved in organizing the Columbia protests, Within Our Lifetime (WOL), formerly known as New York City SJP. Founded by the Palestinian American lawyer Nerdeen Kiswani, a former activist with the Hunter College and CUNY chapters of SJP, WOL has emerged over the past seven months as perhaps the most notorious antisemitic group in the country, and has been banned from Facebook and Instagram for glorifying Hamas. A full list of the group’s provocations would take thousands of words, but it has been the central organizing force in the series of “Flood”-themed protests in New York City since Oct. 7, including multiple bridge and highway blockades, a November riot at Grand Central Station, the vandalism of the New York Public Library, and protests at the Rockefeller Center Christmas-tree lighting. In addition to their confrontational tactics, WOL-led protests tend to have a few other hallmarks. These include eliminationist rhetoric directed at the Jewish state—such as Arabic chants of “strike, strike, Tel Aviv”; the prominent display of Hezbollah flags and other insignia of explicitly Islamist resistance; the presence of masked Arab street muscle; and the antisemitic intimidation of counterprotesters by said masked Arab street muscle.
WOL’s role appears to be that of shock troops, akin to the role played by black block militants on the anarchist side of the ledger. WOL is, however, connected to more seemingly “mainstream” elements of the anti-Israel movement. Abdullah Akl, a prominent WOL leader—indeed, the man leading the “strike Tel Aviv” chants in the video linked above—is also listed as a “field organizer” on the website of MPower Change, the “advocacy project” led by Linda Sarsour. MPower Change, in turn, is a fiscal sponsorship of NEO Philanthropy, another large progressive clearinghouse. NEO Philanthropy and its 501(c)(4) “sister,” NEO Philanthropy Action Fund, have received more than $37 million from Soros’ Open Society Foundations since 2021 alone, as well as substantial funding from the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, the Ford Foundation, and the Tides Foundation.

By Tom Winter, Erik Ortiz and Rich Schapiro
As pro-Palestinian student protesters took over a building at Columbia University in New York City early Tuesday, one person in the crowd outside stood out — a gray-haired woman who delivered orders to young people helping to barricade a door.
“Tie it right to the lock,” she told two masked protesters holding zip ties, according to video posted on social media. The protesters did as they were told, using the ties on a metal table pressed against the door of Hamilton Hall.
“Let’s give them a little cover,” the older woman told the crowd. “Cameras back. Cameras back.”
The woman was not a Columbia University student or faculty member. She, in fact, has no known affiliation to the school at all.
She is a 63-year-old veteran activist named Lisa Fithian, whom the New York Police Department described as a “professional agitator.”
The takeover of Hamilton Hall was a significant escalation in the strategy used by students demanding that Columbia divest from corporations that could be profiting from the war in Gaza. Both New York Mayor Eric Adams and Columbia President Nemat Shafik blamed the action on outside actors with no ties to the school.
So far, Fithian is the only outsider city officials have identified as playing a part in the seizure of the building.
New York police officials believe Fithian could be one of the people responsible for training the protesters in the tactics they used to occupy Hamilton Hall, according to two senior city officials. The officials did not provide further details, and the full scope of Fithian’s involvement in the takeover was not clear.
Tumblr media
Fithian is no stranger to high-profile protests. For roughly 50 years, she has participated in demonstrations for a dizzying array of causes at home and abroad, racking up scores of arrests. “In my years as an anti-racist organizer, I have shut down the CIA, disrupted the World Trade Organization’s first major meeting during the Battle of Seattle, and helped launch Common Ground Relief, a grassroots organization that supported communities in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina,” she wrote in her book “Shut It Down: Stories From a Fierce, Loving Resistance.”

Want to know how Woke activists take over buildings, smash windows, trash university campuses, and still have the press call them "non-violent"?
Well, as it turns out these are well trained activists using intelligent, highly developed tactics. Here's a primer:
Tumblr media
First off: none of this is spontaneous.
IE: The protestors in the video going around have shields. (pic 1)
In 2020 we learned these shields can take hours to make and are made by volunteers working all day. You don't do that spontaneously. It takes planning. (pics 2 +3)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's a thread on the shields used during the 2020 Portland protests. They are well built and are distributed to those wishing to engage in "direct action" (AKA violence and vandalism).
Not all shields are built like this, but this is typical:
Tumblr media
Another clue that this is all VERY well planned is the fact they tend to all have the same tent.
This is because the organizations that run and fund the protests purchase the tents in bulk and then give them to the protestors as needed.
Again, It is all VERY well planned.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Further, these are NOT "student protests."
Lisa Fithian is a 63 year old professional protestor, not a student. She's planned protests for decades.
According to the NYPD 1/3 of the people arrested at Columbia, and most of the people arrested at the CCNY, were not students
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now we need to understand the TACTICS that are being used here.
The first strategy is to put their target in a "decision dilemma." This is where they select a method of protest that leaves the person with no good options. No matter how the target reacts they look bad.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As John Searle explained in his 1971 book "The Campus War," the strategy is to leave the University with no good options:
Tumblr media
They either let the protestors take over, or call police and then students play victim and use the optics to look like sympathetic martyrs for the cause.
The decision dilemma strategy is paired with: "the real action is your targets reaction." You use someone's reactions to your protest against them.
IE: Taking over a building. If the police arrest you, you film it and play the martyr. If they don't, you control the building
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Those two strategies are used hand in hand to create actions which activists can turn to their advantage.
When they do this correctly they can paint themselves as the sympathetic powerless underdogs even when they are the aggressors.
It's social and political jiu-jitsu  This is performative, but not in "look good to your peers" kind of way.
The principle is "play to the audience that isn't there." Activists protesters want to LOOK good to the people on Youtube or watching the news.
It's the OPTICS that matter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Please pay careful attention to this:
Activists want to LOOK like they are trying to change the minds of people they protest against, but that's just for show. They see their targets unrepentant evil doers that are just props in the drama they are staging.
This is awful.
Tumblr media
The point of the protest is not to change the mind of the people whose building they have taken over, the goal is to use the protest as a way of building social and political pressure against the people they are trying to make give it.
THAT is the goal.
This next strategy is self-explanatory: "do the media's work for them."
This is where activists find press releases and film footage that make them look good get into the hands of sympathetic journalists. This explains a lot of what gets on TV
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So how do they do all this and still get sympathetic coverage?
The strategy is: "lead with sympathetic characters." It's EXACTLY what it sounds like. They put sympathetic people out front to garner sympathy and create the APPEARANCE of underdogs fighting against the powerful.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is why in the coverage of these protests you rarely see the images of smashed glass, trashed buildings, broken doors, and blood on the street, but you will often see pictures of the people below which are meant to make the protestors look sympathetic.
Tumblr media
The protestors have a highly developed theory of protest optics. They understand videos can be sliced and diced to tell any story, and the story that "resonates" with people most, wins. So they are intentional in trying to create moments on video that can go viral...
That isn't to say they aren't also intentional in doing damage. They are. The book Black Bloc, White Riot: Anti-Globalization and the Genealogy of Dissent by author AK Thompson is the starting place for their theory of what counts as violence, and when violence is justified.
Here is Alex Hundert writing is rabble defending "a diversity of tactics" which is a euphemism for allowing violence at protests. Hundert explicitly states a commitment to non-violence is "dogmatic" and "stifles debate" about which tactics to use.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So the violence and vandalism at these protests is intentional. Where the elderly protestor is meant to win hearts, the black bloc is there to intimidate. If police react to the violence with arrests protestors claim the police "attacked students."
See how the game works?
The point is that none of these protests are happening spontaneously.
These are well planned protests, using high level tactics that are given to people supported by a well organized protest infrastructure (where did you think the tents and shields came from?)
These radical protestors have organized an infrastructure to, in their words, disrupt, dismantle, and deconstruct your society.
I don't want to scare any of you, I just want you to know what's happening because you can't push back against what you don't understand.
Every single one of these protests operates according to a set of methodologies, principles and tactics and theories that have been created with the specific goal of allowing the radicals to gain social and political victories by creating and controlling the narrative.
As @realchrisrufo points out, the conflict at Harvard is reaching a "decision point," but Harvard can't end the conflict without looking bad and damaging their own reputation.
This is the result of activist tactics applied perfectly against Harvard.
Tumblr media
Do not underestimate the ability of radical leftist protestors to win the narrative battle, particularly since we have a media complex sympathetic to leftist causes.
The goal here is not to scare you, but to show you what's going on under the hood of these protests....
Beating woke activists means understanding their tactics are so you can anticipate them and respond in a way that is effective. If universities had anticipated the Activist tactic "occupation" They would have known the goal was to put them in a "decision dillemma" (pic 2)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the activists will explicitly tell us that these occupations are "well planned" (that's why I keep using that phrase" and that they want to expose the "power holders" (in this case universities) inability to enforce the rules. That's literally the whole point...
Tumblr media
Had universities known this they would have understood that the right move is to eject the encampments the minute they start. There was not way to negotiate with the protestors because, as the activists themselves tell us, negotiating is not the point. The point is to create a situation where the University has no good option and expose the university as weak, and then use that to extract concessions and make the university fold because they have ZERO good options.
Knowing that this is the strategy allows you avoid the trap by taking the PR hit and ejecting the protestors and tearing down the encampments on day 1. You're taking a PR hit no matter what, so take the hit day 1 and then ride it out. The longer the protests last, the bigger a story they become, so end it quick and kill the momentum.
Instead universities did not know the tactics, thought they could reason with the protestors or negotiate in good faith, and now they are in exactly the bind that @realchrisrufo lays out here:
Tumblr media
Learn how the woke activists operate, learn how their tactics function, and learn how to respond accordingly when they seek to impose their will on you using these tactics.
Thanks for reading.

Honestly, this seems pretty freaking obvious. Hamas can't defeat Israel by firepower; the way they win is by fighting the propaganda war and manipulating the rest of the world into fighting against Israel instead.
Still, it doesn't matter how much you quote their own words, there's still certain people who will say right to you that it isn't true, it's not happening.

Mayor Eric Adams says "outside agitators" influenced Columbia University protests. What does he mean?
NEW YORK -- Mayor Eric Adams and other New York City officials have blamed "outside agitators" for escalating pro-Palestinian protests at Columbia University and influencing students. CBS New York investigative reporter Tim McNicholas has been asking the city for specifics on what that means.
NYPD arrests over 100 protesters at Columbia University
Tuesday night, Columbia University asked the NYPD to clear protesters who had locked themselves inside Hamilton Hall on the school's Morningside campus, as well as those who had been staying in an unsanctioned tent city for over a week.
According to the NYPD, 109 people were arrested at Columbia.
CBS New York has asked the NYPD how many of the people arrested at the protest were students, but they have not yet provided an answer. However, senior police sources say of the 282 people arrested at both Columbia and City College of New York, 27% were over 30 years old and just over 10% have been arrested several times, mostly protest-related.
Wednesday morning, the NYPD showed reporters a lock they say protesters put on Hamilton Hall. The Deputy Commissioner of Public Information said, "This is not what students bring to school. This is what professionals bring to campuses and universities."
In 2020, however, Columbia's Public Safety Department offered what appears to be the same lock to students at a discount. CBS New York is still working to confirm who brought that lock to Hamilton Hall.
Also on Wednesday, another NYPD deputy commissioner said the wife of a man convicted of terrorism was on the Columbia campus last week, but police have no evidence of any criminal wrongdoing on her part.
Lisa Fithian seen at Columbia University protests
The NYPD has pointed out at least one person involved in this week's protests who they describe as a "professional agitator."
Police released a video from earlier this week of Lisa Fithian, who has helped organize protests for a long list of causes across the country for decades. She was on campus Monday night into Tuesday morning.
In another video from Monday night, she is seen directing protestors as they tie a table to a door. Tuesday, Fithian told CNN that was done as a safety measure because tables have been used to shove people.
Fithian said she didn't train anyone to take over any buildings, and she said she's not affiliated with any group and came to Columbia on her own accord.
CBS New York tried to reach her Wednesday but hasn't heard back.
Mark Naison, a protest historian and professor at Fordham University, told CBS New York he doesn't believe outsiders are the main organizers of pro-Palestinian campus protests.
"There are a lot of Palestinian students at almost every major university, and some of them have lost 10 or 20 relatives in Gaza," he said. "And this is very personal and they talk about this to their fellow students."
"Historically, communities have always leaned internally to answer the moral question, 'What side are you on?' And have always organized themselves internally to fight for the rights of other folks," said Celeste Faison, an executive director of Movement for Black Lives and a demonstration strategist in Harlem.
What happened at Columbia University?
Pro-Palestinian demonstrators set up an encampment on Columbia University's main lawn in early April, demanding the school divest from companies that do business with Israel. On April 18, Columbia University President Minouche Shafik asked the NYPD to clear the protesters, saying the encampment posed a danger. Over 100 people were arrested.
Protesters quickly returned to the main lawn, setting up an even larger tent city and camping out for over a week. During that time, student protest organizers and school officials had discussions to try to find a resolution, but officials said Monday they had reached an impasse and a deadline was issued for students to clear the encampment.
The protesters refused to leave the tent city, and overnight Monday into Tuesday, a group forced their way into Hamilton Hall and barricaded themselves inside.
Shafik then again called on the NYPD for help clearing Hamilton Hall and the encampments. She also requested the NYPD maintain a presence on campus until after the university's commencement ceremony.
Tuesday night, hundreds of NYPD officers entered the campus, took dozens of protesters into custody and dismantled the encampments.
Shafik released a statement Wednesday morning, saying in part, "I am sorry we reached this point."

Most NYU arrested protesters were not students–could the Biden Administration Gaza plan cause terrorism within the USA?
@bible-news-prophecy-radio
Although the media has mainly pointed to student anti-Israel protesters, some have suspected that many outside agitators were involved. Apparently quite a few:
NYU: Over Half Arrested for Anti-Israel Protests Not Tied to School
May 2, 2024
Less than half of the pro-Palestine protesters arrested at New York University last week after refusing to vacate the campus were members of the academic institution, the university said on Wednesday.
Of the 133 protesters arrested on April 22 at Gould Plaza on campus, 65 were students, faculty or other employees of NYU, located in the Greenwich Village neighborhood on the west side of lower Manhattan. …
At Columbia University in northern Manhattan’s Morningside Heights neighborhood, Hamas supporters who were not students or staff were involved in violent protests, according to the city’s mayor.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams, speaking on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Wednesday, revealed that “outside agitators,” including one whose husband was convicted for terrorism, played a key role in the anti-Israel protests at Columbia. https://www.newsmax.com/us/nyu-pro-palestine-protests/2024/05/02/id/1163192/
Unmask the Death-To-America Rioters
May 1, 2024
I realize that masks are de rigueur for rioters. Combined with an oversized keffiyeh they offer anonymity to the Hamas and Hezbollah wannabes. Take a gander at any footage from the nationwide campus protests and most of the anti-semites are wearing masks. https://www.baconsrebellion.com/wp/unmask-the-death-to-america-rioters/
The Anti-Israel Protests Are Being Organized By Paid Professional Agitators And Are Being Funded By The Usual Suspects
May 1, 2024
If you actually believe that it is just a “coincidence” that anti-Israel protests have “spontaneously” erupted at dozens of colleges and universities all over the nation, you are just being delusional. … these protests are being organized by paid professional agitators, and they are being funded by the same far left sources that have funded other radical protest movements in the past. …
New York City Mayor Eric Adams is a far left mayor in a far left city, and even he is admitting that there were “professionals” involved in the chaos that we just witnessed at Columbia University…
There were individuals on the campus who should not have been there. They were people who are professionals and we saw evidence of training,” Adams said. …
“This is a global problem that young people are being influenced by those who are professionals at radicalizing our children and I’m not going to allow that to happen as the mayor of the city of New York.”
Mayor Adams says that Lisa Fithian, who is considered to be “the nation’s best-known protest consultant”, was directly involved with what was going on at Columbia…
In addition, it is being reported that three groups that are heavily funded by George Soros “set up the tent city on Columbia’s lawn”…
The cash from Soros and his acolytes has been critical to the Columbia protests that set off the national copycat demonstrations.
Three groups set up the tent city on Columbia’s lawn last Wednesday: Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Within Our Lifetime. …
And the SJP has had a hand in initiating similar operations at other colleges and universities all over the United States…
Copycat tent cities have been set up at colleges including Harvard, Yale, Berkeley in California, the Ohio State University and Emory in Georgia — all of them organized by branches of the Soros-funded Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) — and at some, students have clashed with police.
The SJP parent organization has been funded by a network of nonprofits ultimately funded by, among others, Soros, the billionaire left-wing investor. …
The violence at UCLA is particularly disturbing. …
This is complete and utter lawlessness.
And if they get away with it there, paid agitators will try the same thing at other colleges and universities. …
One of the primary goals of these protests is to get attention, and the mainstream media has been giving them plenty of it.
Unfortunately, I believe that this is just the beginning.
I am entirely convinced that global events will soon spiral completely out of control, and that will provide plenty of fuel for more nationwide protests. https://endoftheamericandream.com/the-anti-israel-protests-are-being-organized-by-paid-professional-agitators-and-are-being-funded-by-the-usual-suspects/
Yes, the matters in the USA will get worse. Not necessarily immediately, but ultimately yes.
And, it appears that in addition to multiple millions of people entering the USA illegally the past few years, the Biden Administration is working on giving permanent residence to many from Gaza. CBS reported:
April 30, 2024
The Biden administration is considering bringing certain Palestinians to the U.S. as refugees, a move that would offer a permanent safe haven to some of those fleeing war-torn Gaza, according to internal federal government documents obtained by CBS News.
In recent weeks, the documents show, senior officials across several federal U.S. agencies have discussed the practicality of different options to resettle Palestinians from Gaza who have immediate family members who are American citizens or permanent residents.
One of those proposals involves using the decades-old United States Refugee Admissions Program to welcome Palestinians with U.S. ties who have managed to escape Gaza and enter neighboring Egypt, according to the inter-agency planning documents. …
Those who pass a series of eligibility, medical and security screenings would qualify to fly to the U.S. with refugee status, which offers beneficiaries permanent residency, resettlement benefits like housing assistance and a path to American citizenship. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/palestinian-refugees-us-gaza-white-house/
If they are screened, what’s the risk?
Well, the vast majority in Gaza support Hamas and hate the USA. As far as supporting Hamas goes, notice the following:
A new poll released by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research finds … the percentage who believe the terror group’s October 7 onslaught was “correct” is virtually unchanged.
According to the survey, 71% of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank back the October 7 massacres in which in terrorists killed some 1,200 people and kidnapped 253 others, 03/20/24 https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/poll-over-70-palestinians-still-maintain-hamas-correct-to-commit-oct-7-atrocities/
Here is some information about Hamas’ official goals:
THE COVENANT OF THE HAMAS – MAIN POINTS . . .Goals of the HAMAS:    ——————    ‘The Islamic Resistance  Movement is a distinguished Palestinian movement, whose allegiance is to Allah, and whose way of life is Islam. It strives to raise the banner of Allah  over  every  inch  of Palestine.’ (Article 6)      On the Destruction of Israel:    —————————–    ‘Israel will exist and  will  continue  to  exist  until  Islam  will    obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it.’ (Preamble)      The Exclusive Moslem Nature of the Area:    —————————————-     ‘The land of Palestine is an Islamic Waqf  [Holy Possession] consecrated for future Moslem  generations until Judgment Day. No one can renounce it or any part, or abandon it or any part  of  it.’ (Article 11)     ‘Palestine is an Islamic land…  Since this is the case, the Liberation of Palestine is an individual duty for every Moslem wherever he may be.’ (Article 13)      The Call to Jihad:    ——————    ‘The day the enemies usurp part of Moslem  land, Jihad becomes the individual duty of every Moslem. In the face of the Jews’ usurpation, it is compulsory that the banner of Jihad be raised.’ (Article 15)     ‘Ranks will close, fighters joining other fighters, and masses everywhere in the Islamic world will come forward in response to the call of duty, loudly proclaiming: ‘Hail to  Jihad!’. This cry will reach the heavens and will go on being resounded until liberation is achieved, the invaders vanquished and Allah’s victory comes about.’ (Article 33)      Rejection of a Negotiated Peace Settlement:    ——————————————-    ‘[Peace]  initiatives, and so-called peaceful solutions and international conferences are in contradiction to the principles of the Islamic Resistance Movement… Those conferences are no more than a means to appoint the infidels as arbitrators in the lands of Islam…  There is no solution for the Palestinian problem except by Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are but a waste of time, an exercise in futility.’ (Article 13)      Condemnation of the Israel-Egypt Peace Treaty:    ———————————————-    ‘Egypt was, to a great extent, removed from the circle of struggle [against Zionism] through the treacherous Camp David  Agreement.  The Zionists are  trying to draw other Arab countries  into  Similar agreements in order to bring them outside the circle of struggle.    … Leaving the circle of struggle against Zionism is high treason, and cursed be he who perpetrates such an act.’ (Article 32) . . . ‘The HAMAS regards itself the spearhead and the vanguard of the    circle of struggle against World Zionism… Islamic groups all over the Arab world should also do the same, since they are best equipped for their future role in the fight against the warmongering Jews.’ (Article 32)
Hamas has more goals, but the above ones give an idea of what it has intended to be about. Hamas is an Islamic organization and has no interest with peace with Israel, nor with the USA. The slogan “Death to America” has been repeated at various anti-Israel protests this past week or so.
Notice also the following:
Should Biden Bring Refugees From Gaza To The US?
May 2, 2024
With violent confrontations on liberal campuses, the Biden administration is considering bringing refugees from Gaza to the U.S. This move could provide a haven but also risks escalating tensions similar to those of the 2020 summer of violence. … the U.S. plans could provide a crucial escape route for some Palestinians fleeing the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, …
Critics also point out that this is the same administration that, in the past two years, has allowed over 20 million undocumented immigrants into the country, …
Given this context, it is not surprising that Biden, who seeks to retain the support of the ultra-left progressive wing of the Democratic Party, might use this proposal to win votes. This wing has shown sympathy for Hamas, and their support could be crucial in the upcoming election. …
Biden will likely proceed with his plan, even though the U.S. is considering accepting refugees from Gaza when no Arab nation has done so. https://greatgameindia.com/should-biden-bring-refugees-from-gaza-to-the-us/
This is dangerous.
Back in 2014, I posted the following:
As far as the Bible, the Palestinians, and Gaza goes, there are several prophecies that discuss what will happen.
According to a prophecy in the Book of Isaiah, the Palestinians (biblically referred to as Philistines), apparently along with some Syrians, are prophesied to be involved in war:
8 The Lord sent a word against Jacob, And it has fallen on Israel. 9 All the people will know — Ephraim and the inhabitant of Samaria — Who say in pride and arrogance of heart: 10 ‘The bricks have fallen down, But we will rebuild with hewn stones; The sycamores are cut down, But we will replace them with cedars.” 11 Therefore the Lord shall set up The adversaries of Rezin against him, And spur his enemies on, 12 The Syrians before and the Philistines behind; And they shall devour Israel with an open mouth. (Isaiah 9:8-12)
Since the above prophecy involves Ephraim and Samaria, this is indicative that the UK and USA will themselves be attacked (see Anglo – America in Prophecy & the Lost Tribes of Israel), apparently including terroristic tactics (hitting them before and behind).  Hamas has used terrorism in the past and is expected to do so in the future. (Thiel B. Fighting stops and starts: What is ahead for Gaza? COGwriter, July 27, 2014)
Isaiah 9:12 is a prophecy that points to terrorism hitting the USA and its British-descended allies by people from Syria and Palestine. The USA, Canada, and UK brought in many Syrian refugees, along with some Palestinian ones since I wrote the above. Now, the USA is looking to bring in more.
Realize that the Bible shows that terrorism is prophesied:
14 ‘But if you do not obey Me, and do not observe all these commandments, 15 and if you despise My statutes, or if your soul abhors My judgments, so that you do not perform all My commandments, but break My covenant, 16 I also will do this to you: I will even appoint terror over you, wasting disease and fever which shall consume the eyes and cause sorrow of heart. And you shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it. 17 I will set My face against you, and you shall be defeated by your enemies. Those who hate you shall reign over you, and you shall flee when no one pursues you. (Leviticus 26:14-17)
25 The sword shall destroy outside; There shall be terror within (Deuteronomy 32:25)
12 “Cry and wail, son of man; For it will be against My people, Against all the princes of Israel. Terrors including the sword will be against My people; Therefore strike your thigh. (Ezekiel 21:12)
12 Behold, these are the ungodly,Who are always at ease; They increase in riches…19 Oh, how they are brought to desolation, as in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors. (Psalms 73:12,19)
25 Because you disdained all my counsel, And would have none of my rebuke, 26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your terror comes, 27 When your terror comes like a storm, And your destruction comes like a whirlwind, When distress and anguish come upon you. (Proverbs 1:25-27)
5 Also they are afraid of height, And of terrors in the way (Ecclesiastes 12:5).
Let me also add that according to the 83rd Psalm, a confederation against the USA, its Anglo-Saxon-Celtic allies, and Israel involving Arab and European forces is coming (Psalm 83).  And I have long believed that terrorism will have to be part of this.

Gaza and Bible Prophecy
Israeli officials such as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have claimed that all those in Hamas will be killed or eliminated. Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen added that the plan is to make Gaza shrink. Where do those of Gaza and other Palestinians come from? Does the Bible show historical animosities between the descendants of Israel and those of the Gazans and the Palestinians? What does the Bible show that Gaza and Hamas mean? Do biblical prophecies in Amos and Jeremiah point to Gaza ending up with territories that Israel now controls? Can Israel lose territory? Will Hamas achieve some of its objectives? What does the 83rd Psalm prophesy? Might terrorism be involved? Steve Dupuie and Dr. Thiel address these issues.

Despite how things may look now, Israel will lose territory to the Palestinians, including the Gazans.
While there are humanitarian reasons to allow Gazans into the USA, the USA will end up with more terrorism.

“Virginians are of genuine Blood. They will dance or die!”
By: Lisa Timmerman, Executive Director
HDVI & The Town of Dumfries start planning for Celebrate Dumfries Day, formerly Charter Day, in the fall and winter of every year. From inviting The Chesapeake Mermaid to an info table on Virginia History Day, we were prepared to celebrate with you. Historically, the organization started celebrating this holiday from very early on in their formation and different years featured a range of activities, from music to interpreters to Victorian fashion shows provided by the Victorian Society at Falls Church. For 2020, take my virtual gloved hand and dance with me as we look at Dumfries fashionable and stylish history in the 18th century!
Tumblr media
(Charter Day 2008)
In 1774, Philip Vickers Fithian, a tutor at Nomini Hall in Westmoreland County, observed dramatically, “Virginians are of genuine Blood. They will dance or die!” Dancing was a serious social obligation for Virginians in the 18th century, as dance masters traveled to plantations to instruct their students. Often, the community held dances after the lessons, encouraging the entire household and neighbors to join in with music provided by military bands, consorts, or enslaved persons. If you lived near an urban area, you could attend a dancing school, such as the one in Williamsburg in 1737 or Richmond in 1784. The style of dancing changed based on region and level of society. While fancier dances accompanied performances such as minuets, the less formal country dance featured social mixing of upper and middle classes. Derived from African society, jigs and Scottish-derived reels invited lower-class white persons, servants, and the enslaved to participate. Balls were popular in Virginia and commemorated everything from birthdays (eventually George Washington’s!) to military victories. Based on primary records and the busy commerce of our happening seaport, we know that people held balls in Dumfries. While Lucinda Lee Orr did not elaborate in her journal, she did note, “He said, at supper, he was engaged to dance with one of the Miss Brents at a Ball in Dumfries, but that was only conditioning.”
Tumblr media
(Charter Day 2018)
Did you reject my virtual gloved hand? Perhaps you would enjoy some other type of celebration or pleasurable activity? Well, Dumfries was a “hotspot” for traveling in the 18th century, meaning the Town offered a variety of different social gatherings. Although travelers frequently complained about the poor roads around the area, they still attended plays and horse races. Miss Orr further noted Dumfries in her journal regarding another sociable practice we hold several times a year at the museum, “I have a thousand Questions to ask about them, but I hope you will write me an exact detail of every thing that happened while there. You have been at a tea-drinking lately, in Dumfries: Mrs. A. Washington gave me the whole History of it—told me your dresses, and every thing. But where am I running to? I had forgot there was Company in the House, so happy am I always conversing with my Polly. Adieu.” George Washington traveled to Dumfries in 1771 for a performance of “The Recruiting Officer: A Comedy”. This 1706 comedy authored by Irishman George Farquhar, followed the dating exploits of two army recruiting officers and earned this summary from the American Players Theatre, “Whether they’re attempting to fill their boats or their beds, these recruiters will need to apply some hefty truth-stretching to their deal-closing.”
Tumblr media
(Charter Day 2008)
Although we will not dance with you on Celebrate Dumfries Day 2020 or join you for a scandalous play, we still consider ourselves a destination spot as we welcome the local community and travelers a great place to dine, rest, and participate in different events. We thank you for your continued support as your membership and donations help fuel our ability to still dance in Dumfries! Click here to help support us today!

An Exploration of the Relationship Between Major Studios and the Arthouse Moviegoing Experience
While learning about the inner-workings of the independent cinema industry over the course of the semester, I have taken an interest in class discussions and coursework related to arthouse theaters, their history, and what sets them apart from commercial theaters. During the spring 2020 semester, I was a part of the Stonehill in the City program in Los Angeles where I interned for the In-Theater Marketing Department at Paramount Pictures (during my time spent in CA from January to March.) The In-Theater Marketing team primarily manages the promotion of new films within the theater environment (through the implementation of physical displays, trailer spaces during movie previews, and promotional offers and events,) elements related to the consumer’s movie-going experience, and correspondence between theaters and the studio.
In my research, I aim to explore the relationship between major studios, such as Paramount, and the arthouse moviegoing experience. This blog will investigate a general history of arthouse film exhibitors, how independent titles and theaters fit into mainstream entertainment, and insight into the link between studios and in-theater moviegoing from the perspective of Juliet Conroy, my former supervisor at Paramount, and from my personal experiences. I had the opportunity to interview Juliet over the phone, and she was also able to detail how the experience of physically going to the movie theater has permanently shifted due to COVID, and how the pandemic has impacted the status of both corporate and independent exhibitors.)
Digital Cinema Initiatives: An Example of the Relationship Between Major Studios & Exhibitors
Tumblr media
Because a significant part of the consumer appeal to pursuing the arthouse theater experience is nostalgia, maintaining tradition, and breaking away from the hyper commercialized, digitized climate in which modern entertainment often lives, independent theaters frequently struggle to compete with larger corporate and franchise competitors. In a 2012 study conducted by Lisa Dombrowski, a Film Studies professional based at Wesleyan University, she analyzes the backgrounds of various Miami-area arthouse theaters, focusing on a “two-tiered exhibition sector: DCI-compliant art cinemas able to screen studio fare and potentially compete with commercial multiplexes vs. non-DCI-compliant art cinemas that are unable to digitally screen studio-affiliated films and thus focus on more independent or alternative programming.” DCI stands for “Digital Cinema Initiatives” and refers to an organization comprised of seven major film studios (MGM, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment, 20th Century Fox, Universal Studios, The Walt Disney Company, and Warner Bros) that was established in 2002 to regulate the uniformity and quality of film exhibition in theater spaces. This organization is a key element of the connection between major studios and arthouse film exhibitors, as it has set an industry standard that needs to be met by any theater owners who wish to have the freedom to show potentially lucrative blockbuster titles. It is vital that arthouse theaters have the option to offer more mainstream titles to audiences, as a balance between niche programming and popular pictures is typically what creates the space for them to set themselves apart while financially staying afloat.
Tumblr media
Following the annual state of the industry address delivered by John Fithian, the President of the National Association of Theater Owners, at the CinemaCon convention in May of 2011, Dombrowski summarizes that “while a predominantly digital future gets closer for exhibitors of all kinds, the motivation, means, and models for the arrival of digital projection in first-run commercial cinemas are distinctly different than those for art houses.” This creates a point of contention for arthouse cinemas, as “issues of access and programming flexibility inspire the art house drive to digital, while the financial challenges inherent to conversion have led to a much wider range of options regarding how digital copies of films will be distributed and exhibited.” This desperation to experiment with adapting more antiquated methods of showing film is “driven by the major studios’ desire to reduce the cost of printing and shipping film, the appeal of new 3D technology, and the promise of superior image quality without print degeneration,” as corporate theater chains have more economic and technological flexibility than independently run arts institutions.
Tumblr media
When faced with such a predicament, several of the Miami area arthouse cinemas featured in Dombrowski’s study pursued creative options to remain open and in healthy competition with commercial exhibitors. Some have sought out strategies like including both “non-filmic ‘alternative content’, such as live music performances, sports, opera, theater, and ballet” and films shown on both 35mm and digital on their theater calendar. According to Ira Deutchman, the co-founder of Emerging Pictures (a digital theater network,) “It’s gotten easier convincing the art houses that they need digital. At the beginning it was like pulling teeth. Art houses are now sizing up when and how, not if.” Although undergoing the transition to install DCI-compliant entertainment systems is often a financial burden for independently run theaters, it ultimately allows for more effective discourse between struggling arthouse cinemas and major studios (and therefore, allows for them to thrive when faced with corporate competitors.) The establishment of DCI standards has also led to the growth of “larger commercial art house chains, such as Landmark Theaters, Sundance Cinemas, City Cinemas, Laemmle Theatres, and Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas” because they “rely on films from the major studio affiliates” whilst offering more streamlined, specialized content for niche demographics that prefer the arthouse movie-going experience.
The frequency and lower price range with which independent film titles are released on digital (as opposed to the traditional format of 35mm film) is another convenient allure for arthouse cinemas to make the switch. This flexibility gives them the freedom to “more easily hold onto a film for several weeks and build an audience or roll it out in any number of release patterns” so they can “help operators to nimbly take advantage of unanticipated crowd-pleasers” (and therefore, avoid being cornered into making potentially inaccurate guesses about projected revenue.) Joining the majority of theaters (both arthouse and commercial) in exhibiting films on digital also allows for independently run arthouse cinemas to welcome more programming opportunities, “for example, one hundred art theaters around the country might premiere a film on the same night, and all link up via satellite or Skype for a Q & A with the film’s director afterwards.” Overall, although the establishment of DCI standards is costly and has hindered the ability of some arthouse cinema directors to maintain the implementation of traditional film exhibition methods, in the long run, the standards will hopefully aid in fostering a more inclusive and less monopolized environment within the movie-going industry. Possessing DCI-compliant equipment is the key to upholding the studio-exhibitor relationship.
Perspective from Working at a Major Studio
Tumblr media
Last week, I had the opportunity to speak with Juliet Conroy, the Director of Material Logistics in the In-Theater Marketing Department at Paramount Pictures (and my former internship supervisor.) It was really engaging to hear about her personal experiences and the experiences of her colleagues related to the comparison of smaller indie exhibitors to larger corporate exhibitors, how major studios are connected to the cultivation of the consumer’s movie-going experience, and how COVID has affected (and will forever change) the tradition of film exhibition. I was also interested in hearing how so much of her professional involvement is directly relevant to subjects that have been touched upon in our study of independent cinema throughout the semester.
According to Juliet, the studio has more limited contact with specifically indie exhibitors; however, they work directly with franchise arthouse cinemas such as Alamo Drafthouse. These chain arthouse theaters are smaller so they are more flexible and can cater to a more specific audience; however, they are private, so they have more limited opportunity for income from stockholders. A major issue being faced by independent theaters is the financial burden of continuing to pay for rent whilst unable to open at a high enough capacity to generate a sustainable income. Because theaters are technically allowed to reopen, landlords and corporate real estate companies that rent space in expensive areas often immediately demand rent payments, even if theater owners choose not to instantaneously reopen. Juliet lives in Culver City, a more residential neighborhood within Los Angeles, and she says many arthouse-type theaters have been driven out of the area because rent has been driven up since companies like Amazon, Apple, and Sony have moved in.
Tumblr media
Larger, corporate theater companies also struggled during the pandemic, as AMC experienced a spike in stockholders that narrowly saved them from filing for bankruptcy. Both independent and corporate theaters were forced to find creative ways to bring in audiences when studios weren’t comfortable debuting major titles. Some theaters introduced promotions in which they customized some screenings to more specific audiences, and major studios began selling them repertory titles (such as successful classics and horror films.) Additionally, some theaters (such as the infamous Arclight Hollywood) owed too many studios money for titles and could not keep up with the accumulation of costs (and were unfortunately faced with too much debt to remain open.)
Juliet is confident that major studios are “never going to have this opportunity to change the way business is done” again – “it’s time for studios to rethink how they want to spend their marketing dollars, inside the theater and outside the theater, and whatever makes it most worthwhile.” This unique opportunity to restructure the movie-going experience has cultivated an environment in which streaming and in-person entertainment can begin to coexist more harmoniously. Typically, lower-rated films peter out quickly, and more successful blockbusters live in theaters for about 90 days. Now, following a Viacom shareholder meeting, Paramount officially plans to select certain titles (that are predicted to be successful and draw consumers) to live in theaters for 45 days and then be introduced to streaming. Soon after, Warner Bros. announced a similar plan for their 2022 release calendar.
Tumblr media
Recently, Paramount introduced their own streaming service, Paramount Plus. Juliet claims that the introduction of the streaming service has not really affected her department, and from her perspective, the studio created the platform with the intention of having more flexibility with releases in the future. She says the studio is not typically exclusive with their content (like Disney Plus and HBO Max,) but rather, they evaluate each release on a case-by-case basis and “always do what’s best for the studio and the fans.” For example, recently, Paramount sold off titles like Billie Holiday to Hulu and Coming 2 America to Amazon.
Tumblr media
In the last few weekends, box office numbers have been significantly higher, and for the first time, the numbers are comparable to the weekend prior to the commencement of COVID shutdown. Godzilla vs. Kong has been doing notably well as one of the first major films to exclusively debut in theaters since COVID affected the industry. Juliet says “there’s still a want to have the shared experience of watching the big screen,” so despite the obvious spike in popularity of streaming services over the past year, as more reliable safety protocols for theater cleaning, keeping customers and employees safe, and increasing public comfort have been developed, we will begin seeing major titles be debuted in titles again this summer. Juliet explained that as of right now, after Memorial Day weekend, every weekend of the summer has a major title scheduled to debut in theaters. She also disclosed that Disney keeps shifting the opening dates for their titles, which creates a domino effect in which other studios question their decision to debut their major titles and then shift their opening dates. Paramount is opening A Quiet Place 2 in theaters on Memorial Day weekend after it was originally supposed to debut in March of 2020, as the studio hopes to maximize the potential income from the film franchise and make a notable comeback as COVID restrictions are more drastically lifted.
Overall, after considering some of the ways in which major studios are tied to both independent and corporate exhibitors, it is evident that flexibility and creativity between both parties is necessary to the existence of the movie-going experience. As pandemic restrictions are gradually adjusted, vaccine numbers increase, and audiences decide to take advantage of our return to “normal,” we will see that no matter how convenient and accessible streaming content is, consumers will always return to traditional movie-going.

Michelle Obama Asked Big Tech to Remove Trump. They Did

When Ferguson, Missouri, was set on fire by Black Lives Matter and Lisa Fithian-trained shock troops, no one called for Barack Obama to be taken off Twitter, Facebook, or any other social media. Hello! I’m sorry if this is not something you’re interested in, but I’m part of a religious group (Quakers) that believes very strongly in pacifism and non-violence. As I’m getting older, I’m feeling more and more that the only way systems can change is through action, be it demonstrations or anything else. I’m really struggling to reconcile this with my beliefs about pacifism. Most of the sources I can find online or in my community aren’t really aimed at young adults, are there any you are aware of? Thanks either way and I hope you have a nice day!
Hi! So I don’t know much about Quaker ideology. And I don’t know about resources for young adults specifically. I also don’t know exactly how old you are? “Young adult” could mean anything from 12 to 25, which are very different situations and I would give you...different advice. But if you’re looking for something that deals with the relationship between nonviolence and political action, and you’re up for reading a whole book, I recommend Shut It Down by Lisa Fithian. It’s Lisa’s memoir but it’s also a sort of activist handbook. Specifically, it’s a handbook on nonviolent direct action. Nonviolence is a principle but it’s also a tactic, and Lisa talks about why that tactic has been effective for her in her many decades of organizing. And it might give you a different perspective on what the word “nonviolent” means, since from the wording of your ask it sounds like you maybe think practicing nonviolence means you can’t take any political action. There’s a rich and powerful history of nonviolent activism, in the United States and pretty much everywhere in the world.
I agree with you that the only way a system can change is through action. And I would add to that that to sit back and allow a violent system to hurt people—including—without taking action to oppose it, is violent. Passivity in the face of violence is participation in violence. And pacifism, in the sense of not hurting other people, does not require passivity. If you believe that it’s never right to hurt people, I think that’s laudable. But political action doesn’t require you to hurt people. It requires you to see where people are already getting hurt, and then figure out who’s trying to stop it, and step in to help.
Feel free to send me another ask if I’ve misinterpreted your question, since I did have to do a little guesswork about what you exactly meant.
