#lockpick the klefki
Note
The homework went well!
Okay so here’s the official request now that it’s been approved! What Pokémon team would you give Akira/Ren (I forgot what the official name given was) if he was living in Pokémon world like an au?
What region would you assume he grew up in/lives in currently? (Up to you to pick which region and which time of his life you want to specify on to answer this.)
Have a great day, and I hope your returning to this blog brings you as much joy as I get from reading your writing.
Technically Ren is the 'canon' name, but Akira is also official and it's the one we use here because it sounds better :)
But as for his team, I'm thinking something like this?
Tumblr media
I could see Honchkrow being his Ace, even if Honchkrow itself is often described as a bad boss to its Murkrow flocks, contrary to Joker. Ditto for Falinks and Bisharp, I appreciate a good 'leader of the squad' motif.
Kecleon has Colour Change, which I feel like fits to the adaptability that Persona protagonists come with on principle.
Klefki feels obvious. Y'know, lockpicking, keys, you get it.
And Purrloin. Like, duh, right?
As for region, I could see him growing up somewhere more quiet and podunk like Johto or Hoenn before being shipped off to a bigger city. Tempted to say Lumiose in Kalos, but Castelia in Unova also sounds correct
Also there were a few other Pokemon I considered that didn't quite make it. Tinkaton was tempting for the predatory nature it has on Corviknight, which in my head is Akechi's Ace, but I also don't like Tinkaton very much so *eh*
Something from the Impidimp line also feels on brand, because I feel like a Fairy/Dark type would vibe for Akira, but I just straight up hate the Impidimp line.
And then Zorrark also felt like a good fit, but A), I wanted Akira's team to have at least a little bit of type diversity, and B), upon thinking about it more, Zorrark really feels more like an Akechi Pokemon than an Akira one, yk?

What would be Katsuya and Ringo pokemon partners?
omg I never expected a pokemon-related ask about them hahaha it’s fun to think about what sort of pokemon they’d have
Tumblr media
For Ringo, it’s a single Ditto that he found stuck in a bottle while trash-diving. It never really left after he feeds it and now it hangs out on Ringo transformed into accessories, like scarves or neckerchiefs. It turns out to be a good thing bc now Ringo will never be short of useful items. Lockpick or straight up a key? Sure. Stress ball when things gets tough? Cool. It helps that the Ditto is… like a dough of indestructible jelly??? So Ringo will never need to worry about hurting it with his strength (same for the rest of the family haha)
Tumblr media
For Katsuya, he has a Klefki that hangs out in his medicine box and it guards his keys and important items. It’s usually pretty chill but a nasty surprise when thieves open the the box haha
He also gains a Comfey entirely by accident, who’s basically attracted to him due to his wisteria scent alongside his floral-printed yukatas/kimonos. It hangs out coiled around his arms like a bracelet and it’s pretty shy. It’s not a bad thing tbh it helps Katsuya manage his chronic pain + curse with its healing aroma

Bryan: Pinsir, a Pokemon that apparently is able to obtain wings, so that's really interesting to find out about it. I wonder if it'll ever be possible to have a non mega Pinsir that has it's developed wings? Research would be needed.
Amy: This Pinsir reminds me so much of moms! Crusher is always so serious though and doesn't smile, even if you try to. He's so kind though.
Mary: I miss Crusher. He's at home now watching the house with Lockpick. I hope they're okay. Should probably give them a call.

pokemon trainer au go weeee 1/?
So I started a platinum nuzlocke and my brain, doing as brains do, smashed my two latest special interests together. Basically, i tried to match the heisters’ respective aesthetics and perk decks. Side note I havent thought about pokemon competitively since like Kalos so forgive the inaccuracies. Also adding a bit of ‘pkmn can learn more than 4 moves’ for inworld flavor n fun.
Tumblr media
First off is the man behind the scenes, the vape god himself, Bain. There’s not a lot to go on - we know he’s a hacker, used to be a robber himself, and the whole Kataru obsession. Think its safe to assume that his team would be OP as fuck with a side focus on ancient/otherworldly civilization. It was tough choice between Neheeyem, Sigilyph and Claydol for that reason.
Tumblr media
Then we got Dallas, whose mastermind and crew chief perks make him a jack of all trades with an emphasis on support. Thus, a type balanced team with coverage and support moves. The Medic specialty here is represented by Clefable (hello wish/substitute/toxic staller), the Controller via Breloom (status and priority moves everywhere) and Sharpshooter by Kingdra. Braviary’s the closest i can get to his mask while Metagross is for communicating to Bain and the others. Yay psychic type telepathy! Arcanine’s there for rule of cool and sibling to Houston’s Luxray.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Chains’ team can be summed up in one word: TANK. Big, bulky, powerful, if not spectacularly fast. Shotgunner is hard to convey, but Ammo Specialist is here via megaHeracross skill link ability. It was tempting to give him megaTyranitar as well but that felt a little bit too OP. Enforcer also gets rolled in with the general tank build because I got no idea how to convey it in poketerms. There’s not much strategy aside from the occasional Drain Punch - just going hammer and tongs with no boosting or status moves.
Tumblr media
On the other end of the of the spectrum is Hoxton who was really hard to pin down. Instead of narrowing down each specialty I just chose to spread it across several ‘mons. Honestly, Intelleon could’ve worked to represent Gunslinger but I just don’t like its design. This is also where aesthetic played a lot as he got half a teams’ worth of Galar exclusives. Runnerups where Alolan Persian, Galarian Stunfisk and Theivul. Much like his skill deck, there’s not much in the way of being a team player. More likely to use moves that damage his teammates too.
Tumblr media
It was really tempting to give Wolf nothing but canines for a team ngl. Alas, he only gets Mightyena I know it’s name is based on hyena but shhh. Sentries and the Engineer skill are rolled into one with Octillery, Breacher’s here with Electrode and the Oppressor’s fully auto specialty is represented with Ambipom’s skill link. Rotom would’ve been in here too but Bain already had one and I’m trying to do no repeats, also Porygon-Z’s glitchiness works better with Wolf’s whole backstory. Expect a lot of boosting moves and Baton Passing them around. Also paralysis/flinch combos.
Tumblr media
Finally rounding this all out is Houston, whose whole thing is stealth and trickery. You just know he spams evasion boosting moves before going into anything. More specifically; Artful Dodger is represented here by Crobat (hello fellow toxistaller), Shinobi via Kaputops, and Silent Killer via Malamar. Luxray here is sibling to Dallas’ Arcanine and fits in with his stealth theming with it’s (canonical!) xray vision. booboo keys Klefki’s for general lockpicking and plenty of status moves.

VALVOSSA’S POKEMON TEAM (because i can’t resist)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
PRIMARY TEAM
so you know charmander was her starter pokemon. her charizard is very near and dear to her, and is easily her favorite pokemon. actually, it’s probably level 100 by now so... watch out. she also has the ability to change it to mega charizard Y if she wants to.
yveltal is basically Pokemon Alduin what with the “absorbing/devouring life” thing and all. did she catch it? yes. is she it’s friend now too? yes. does she use a legendary on her team like an asshole? yep!
her aegislash was actually her dad’s pokemon! it is centuries old. older than her and most people she meets. despite never making any noise, it’s probably one of her more intimidating pokemon because it just Looms over her shoulder like 👁️ at all times
she got her hydreigon when it was a itty bitty deino, when her dragonborn status was unearthed at high hrothgar. am i mashing pokemon and skyrim together? yea what about it. anyway this pokemon was one of the very few she picked initially because of its power potential-- naturally, hydreigon is a fucking wrecking ball. of course, she and it are good buddies now.
she got greninja when it was a frogadier--- it was kind of her Initiation Pokemon for the thieves guild. brynjolf gave it to her. :”) there are lots of froakies by lake honrich.
her silvally is basically her “fuck you” counter pokemon in battles. she found it as a type: null---- either from the thalmor, orrr just as something she found in a particular dwemer ruin.
Tumblr media
SECONDARY TEAM
of course she has a honchkrow as a companion as well because murkrows are fucking everywhere in riften. it’s hard for anyone who spends a lot of time in riften to not have one... nocturnal herself is also quite fond of them.
more dragon pokemon because she loves dragon pokemon because she’s the dragonborn so obviously....
a klefki? fuck yes. she either got it from delvin or ara. ( @luckydxy ) yes she also uses it in actual, physical lockpicking. whether or not her klefki likes this is debatable sjhdfbsj is that key on her pokemon part of the pokemon or not? who knows!
zoroark used to be karliah’s, which used to be gallus’s. it’s an older pokemon and is pretty much retired now-- too old to do any battling. it sleeps in val’s bed. takes up most of the space.
gallade used to be one of mercer’s partner pokemon--- it was the only one she was able to save before she had to flee irkngthand.

Send ✓ for me to come up with a Pokemon team for your muse. NOT ACCEPTING!
Ok so this team isn’t gonna be competitive focused but instead focused around Interpol utility.
Klefki! Ability: Prankster
Looker probably has a lot of keys to deal with, and Klefki is right for the job! Not to mention that this pokemon is pretty dang good at lockpicking as well, allowing Looker to infiltrate places with ease. Prankster is also a fantastic ability for utility, allowing Klefki to easily hinder targets, or put up a few defensive walls faster than normal to mitigate damage.
Mienshao! Ability: Inner Focus
Given that Croagunk is either retired or passed, I figured another fighting type would be helpful for tough situations. Meinshao is a great fighter, one with a fighting style that might throw off some other pokemon. Not to mention that the stronger ones can become Aura Sensitive (it learns Aura Sphere at lvl 70), meaning that it may be able to detect things that looker can’t.
Reunclius! Ability: Magic Guard
Reunclius is a pure psychic type, and a bulky one at that! Given how powerful psychic abilities can get, Looker should enjoy having one on his side. Psychic can easily apprehend multiple perps at once, of course. It also has access to a lot of utility movies, and even Future Sight! Magic Guard is probably the best ability for the job (with a close second in Regenerator, but that’s a hidden ability); Given that it prevents both hazards and status afflictions like poison and burn from harming it, I wouldn’t be surprised if it also was immune to some automatic traps.
Galvantula! Ability: Compound Eyes
I assume that Looker initially would get this lil guy as a Joltik, maybe even by accident given how these things like to eat up electricity. As a Joltik, it probably was able to disable electronic locks without too much hassle, helping Looker get in places with ease similar to Klefki. As a Galvantula, it still probably retains the same skills, but now has even more utility with access to moves like Sticky Web (though Joltik still could learn Electroweb, Spider Web, and String Shot). Electric types have great utility with technology already; an electric type with a bunch of trapping/snaring moves is even better!
Noivern! Ability: Infiltrator
The Noivern line has fantastic hearing, especially adapted to sonar, which is already extremely useful with various missions. Heck, with the right technology, Looker might even be able to hear what Noivern is hearing and eavesdrop on a conversation from far away! Not to mention this pokemon is pretty darn big, meaning that Looker could use this pokemon as a rideable flying type. Infiltrator is definitely a great ability in battle, but may also mean that Noivern is able to get past foes without being detected by the average pokemon, which is definitely a bonus! Given it’s exceptional hearing, it is also great during night-time battles, traveling, and infiltration.
Manectric! Ability: Lightning Rod
The last pokemon is reserved for a doggo of some type, one with a good nose that can sniff out evidence and crime! Although I could definitely see him with a Herdier or Stoutland, I think it’s too hard to pass up one Manectric’s Lightning Rod ability. Being able to negate an entire move type from an enemy, suspect, or perp is just too good to pass up, and it can definitely hold it’s own in battle, getting access to Electric, Fire, and Ice and Dark type moves to cover most threats, as well as some basic utility moves such as Thunder Wave and Roar.

Do you find it weird when more huminoid pokémon are treated as pets? (i.e. giving a lucario or machop a food bowl of pellets vs. a plate and seat at the table)
I personally don’t care what other people do. When our Pokémon eat wherever they choose to. Kingpin eats with his gang outside, Blub and Lockpick don’t eat, Fuzzbutt eats static so he’s wherever he wants, Forger and Crusher both eat in private, Sean and Gregory will sit at the table if they choose, but sometimes they sit on the floor.
Also pellets are what they are supposed to eat. It gives the Pokémon the nutrition and benefits that food does. You can feed a Pokémon items like meat or vegetables, but it would all depend on what Pokémon, and diets can be different. The pellets are just easier (I’ve tried them too, they’re not bad). Sean is the only one that doesn’t eat pellets, and that’s because he eats aquatic plants like seaweed.

Are you in a relationship?
Yes actually. I have my wife Mary and my daughter Amy who are in Kalos right now as my daughter is still in school. I video chat with them every night, so Amy knows I’m still with her even if I’m in another region. My wife has a Scrafty named Kingpin, a Reuniclus named Blub, a Klefki named Lockpick and a Pinsir that can mega evolve named Crusher. My daughter has a Riolu that she hatched from an egg named Lulu. We plan for the Riolu to be her starter Pokemon when she goes on a Pokemon journey.

Hi Mary. Do you have a little Wooloo or Mareep?
Mary: Hello, I do not have a Wooloo or Mareep. I have a Scrafty, Reuniclus, Klefki, and a Pinsir. I do think those two are very adorable, and Bryan does have an Ampharos that he uses for Mega Evolution research. Maybe I’ll get a Wooloo myself one day? Who knows.
