Wukong and Macaque with an innocent reader?? and reader likes cuddles
haha more monkey men
✰ Sun Wukong and Macaque x Soft!Reader ✰
Fandom; LEGO Monkie Kid Character List; Macaque, SWK Genre(s); FLUFF, lil' bit of Angst TW/CW; A little blood A/N; i accidentally lost all of this once so i had 2 rewrite it</3 but anyways i had to put on my most sickeningly sweet playlist while writing this ofc,, hope you like ! wukong's is a bit longer bc tbh i didn't mean to make a whole ass scenario but here we are,,
☀️ Sun Wukong
-This man is absolutely in love with you -You're his partner so of course he loves you! BUT BRO -You were like his literal sunshine, so bright and sweet and fun. How could anyone not like you? -If you call him any sweet petname, his tail is always swishing around with a proud smile on his face -Yeah!! That's him!!! -He likes holding your face when he kisses you -If you like to bake, he's gonna wanna be in the kitchen with you, watching what you do -Tell him he can help! He might not be that good, but it's okay because you two always have fun making things together -If you cry easily, he'll always be there to hug you and calm you down. He absolutely hates seeing you cry -Have stuffed animals? Get matching ones with him! He'll keep his somewhere he can always look at it -He likes when you hold onto his arm. It lets him know you trust him :) -You love cuddles? So does he! -Will never pass up an opportunity to cuddle you. He loves holding you or when you cling to him, and if you hold him he's gonna melt -If you let him lay his head on your lap, he will fall asleep, just sayin' -You're his comfort, his happy place -One time he came back to the mountain only to find you playing with his little monkey friends! You were petting them and talking about how cute they were as a few gathered near you. You giggled and said hi to every one. -Wukong's heart is doin' flips rn -"Heyy, peaches! What are you, the monkey whisperer?" -You snort at his question as he sits next to you, the end of his tail thumping against the ground -One of the monkeys leaps onto his shoulder and you both laugh a little -How'd he get someone as amazing as you? He was one of the coolest people he knew, but you,, -He could never get enough of you. Your smile, your laugh, you kindness and the way you always tried to see the best in people. The way you waved to him when he had to leave for a bit, the way you tried to hold in a laugh and shoved his shoulder when he made a joke, your soft and loving voice-- -Your love made him feel something he hadn't felt in many, many years. Your softness makes HIM soft bro -Wukong will listen when you tell him about little things that make you happy. A certain animal, a certain flower, certain weather. Anything! -And if you're easily flustered he will totally take advantage of that, reminding you every day of how beautiful you are to him and telling you how pretty your outfit is! And of course he'll tease you a bit just for fun -If you happen to compliment him back, MAN DOWN
-Wukong wants to protect you as best as he can. If you can't protect yourself, he wants to be your protector -If demons come after him, he doesn't want them to come after you -He always wants to know that you're safe. Teach this man to use a phone so you can text him! Might take a while though -And if a demon ever does come after you... ohu boy -He is beyond angry -Nothing is gonna stop him from getting to you. Anything to get you back, safely in his arms -And once he locates you and the demon,, -That monster will never see the light of day again -But his light, however, is safe. And that's all he cares about right now -You cry as he bursts in and absolutely destroys that demon in like 3 hits -You knew Wukong would come to aid you, but still, you were so scared of what would happen to you before then. You try to wipe your tears, but they just keep coming -Wukong looks back at you, and his gaze immediately softens, any sign of anger leaving his features -He hurries to you, and you don't hesitate to practically leap into his arms, sniffling and thanking him -He wraps his arms around you tightly and assures you that everything is okay now. Your amazing boyfriend was here! Nothing else would hurt you now -"..Hey, don't cry, sunshine. It's safe, you're safe now, okay? Yeah?" -He doesn't want to, but he pulls away so he can summon his cloud and get you both outta there -He smiles at you to reassure you, but his smile falls upon seeing the blood on your face,, and your arm? -Had he not noticed before? Being so happy to see you,, -The injuries stung, but you weren't paying much attention to them right now. The distress was clear on Wukong's face, however -You were about to say his name, but he quickly pulled you close again and hopped on his cloud, holding you tightly as you both soared back to Flower Fruit -Once you were back, Wukong was patching up your injuries as best as he could. He was uncharacteristically quiet while doing it, only speaking to ask if something hurt or if he was being too rough -You looked at him with a hint of worry -"Wukong, are you okay..?" -"..Huh- Me? Oh, no, I'm fine-! I just..Are you okay?" -He was just real worried about you :( Especially after seeing that the demon had actually injured you before he could bash its face in -After reassuring him that you were okay, just a bit shaken up but grateful he came to get you, he smiles -He's never gonna let a demon capture and hurt you like that again. Never. You don't deserve to go through that. You deserve to smile and laugh and pick those flowers you like and see all the things that make you happy! -The rest of the day he's just a little more touchy with you than usual, wanting you close, and it's understandable -Kiss him on the nose or forehead before you go to sleep, he loves it -And in the morning he'll wake you up by kissing your neck a bunch, and he'll laugh if you push his face away -Give him a gift and he'll gasp -"A gift? For me? Awh, ya didn't have toooo! You must love me a whole bunch!" -Genuinely appreciates anything you give him! -What he appreciates the most, though, is you. What would he do without you?
🌙 Macaque
-Initially took your softness for plain weakness -But once he unexpectedly started falling for you, he thought maybe it was a facade. Maybe you're just that good and you're up to something -And then you started dating, and he just found it cute -Guess opposites really do attract -If you call him with a sweet petname instead of his name, he'll answer normally, but you can see his tail swaying -You kinda bring this new light to his life, something he didn't know he needed anymore -He's not too good with crying, but if you ever cry he'll quietly hold you and rub circles on your back -"Shh, you're alright. ..Somethin' happen?" -If it was someone who made you cry, they better pray to whatever god they believe in -He's actually pretty good at cooking/baking. If you ask him he'll gladly bake something with you if he's not busy -Would put icing on your nose and laugh a bit -He likes cupcakes the best and if you made some for him he'd just,, he's very thankful -"You made these for me? Seriously? ..Aren't you sweet? Heh, thank you-" -If you happen to get him a stuffed animal, he'll certainly keep it. He won't react as excitedly as Wukong, but he really does appreciate it because it's from you. Plushies aren't his thing, but it'll sit by his bed and remind him of you -Leaves a note with a flower you like if he leaves without you knowing -Hold his face and smile at him, he will melt inside -Touch starved but doesn't like touch that much. It took a little while for him to be completely comfortable with going to cuddle you. Not that he didn't want to, he was just a bit iffy with such close contact,, -Your touch is warm, inviting, kind. He ends up loving when you curl up next to him and if he's upset that day he might come up next to you. Pls hold him -You're always so affectionate with him, he almost can't believe it. But it's just in your nature. You're a caring and soft person with a lot of love to give -Likes kissing your neck or forehead if he leaves or before you sleep -Will tease you if you fluster easily, seeing you blush makes him smile -Everytime he hears you laugh it feels like he's falling for you all over again. How did someone as bitter as him get someone so sweet, he wonders
-Of course he's gonna protect you -He tries to keep you out of anything dangerous he might do, but he always makes sure he'll come back to you -He always seems to know if you're in some sort of danger. It doesn't happen too often, but when it does you know you'll be okay when you see a familiar shadow creep up behind whoever's endangering you -"Hey, sweets, miss me?" -You waste no time clinging to him and thanking him for saving you, tears threatening to fall -He puts an arm around you, "No one's gonna hurt you like that anymore.. alright? I'll be here quicker if it happens again. They won't get the chance." -Macaque likes shiny things or things that glow. Some things like that he picks up he'll give to you randomly -He loves when you're happy to see him when you two see each other again. It feels so good to be wanted by you -Anytime you say you love him, or pet his head, kiss him or smile at him, he's reminded of just how in love he is -Everything feels a bit more whole with you there. You warm his heart by just being near him -He loves you to death bro ( Fin. ~ ✰ )

thinking of cicada lilly au and how tense things between "mr. moonlight" and "mr. sunshine" must have been in the beginning.
not only would they immediately recognize each other, but i can just imagine how they'd both be mentally freaking out the first time they saw each other. in an instant both of them are mentally screaming "what the fuck is he doing here!??" "holy shit he's alive!??"
and even after the truce incident things are still tense, less outright fighting, but a hell of a lot more awkward I'd bet. they're mostly talking about the kids they pseudo-adopted then themselves, but it's better than them fighting all the time. progress is progress, I suppose.
that is until how they found their respective kids comes up in conversation, and Wukong nearly has an aneurysm when he learns about Macaque getting tangled up with the bone demon and Bai He's "True Purpose"
referencing.
Oh def. At first the two "pets" were able to chalk their suspicions up to paranoia, but after one of them (likely bird!Wukong) witnessed the other un-glamour - it made things more overtly hostile.
Cus' like you said; "tf this guy doing here?!"
Especially from Wukong since in his memory, Macaque sorta died.
Even after their temporary truce to protect their respective "owners", they mentally weigh their options before getting chummy again.
Macaque in particular tries to leave entirelly one night, only to hear Bai He running around town yelling for Mr Moonlight for hours, tears and snot rolling down her face. He simply could not leave her knowing that he'd be depriving a lonely little girl her best friend and protector. Mr Moonlight calmly appears back at the restaurant's dining area that afternoon - pretending like nothing had happened. Bai He cried into his fur and held him tight, begging him never to scare her like that again. In his cat form he pretends Mr Sunshine doesn't exist.
Wukong considers flying away a few times just to get away from the awkwardness, but his successor is right here. And he's not entirely sure if can trust him alone with Macaque yet. So the bird occasionally screams into the certainly not-deaf cat's ears when he's feeling angry.
Eventually they do sit down on even terms to discuss what brought them to the same home.
Wukong: "Me first cus my kid is older." Macaque: "Fair." Wukong: "He's one of us." Macaque: "...you're kidding me." Wukong: "Yup! Nuwa made him directly and dumped him on me." Macaque: "That's pretty wild... how come you didn't raise him yourself?" Wukong, eyes sad: "I wasn't in a great place. All my friends were gone, our kingdom is non-existent, and I'm too much of a target to give the kid a normal life." Macaque: "As normal as a stone monkey could get." Wukong: "Yeah... so I sought out anyone from the old days that could give him a good childhood. And I found piglet's decendant." Macaque: "What made you choose him?" Wukong: "Honestly? Most of it was gut feeling. Then I saw him help calm down a toddler crying in the resturant and I just knew he'd raise MK well." Macaque: "I suppose you weren't entirely wrong. He is a good father." Wukong: "What about you? Why are you hanging around the little bug?" Macaque, hesistating: "...I'm protecting her." Wukong: "Why?" Macaque, glares: "Wukong, hav eyou not considered Why I was able to come back to mortal world?" Wukong: "I have, but what that has to do with Bai He?" Macaque: "She's not a normal child either Wukong. Not us, but something else... When I was in Diyu, I was approached by someone offering my life in exchange for raising a baby girl to be their host when the time came." Wukong, aghast: "You didn't." Macaque: "I did. I accepted... but I sure as hell am not gonna let them get to her anytime soon. I sniffed out your old master's soul since I knew his power could protect her. Plus I saw him manage to wrangle MK and knew he could handle it." Wukong: "So... what now? Are you just gonna pretend to be a cat for the rest of her life? Or are you going to tell her when this demon comes knocking at the door?" Macaque: "I should ask you something similar. When is MK going to find out his cockatiel is the legendary Monkey King?" Wukong: "We will learn one day soon. Just not right now." Macaque: "You keep telling yourself that. And I'll keep to the tuna if it means the little bug stays safe." Wukong: "Looks like we agree on one thing though." Macaque: "And that is?" Wukong: "We can't stand the thought of anything happening to them." Macaque: "Hmm." *looks away and nods silently*
Note: this convo most definetely occurs on the roof of the restaurant building. Or else Pigsy would be smashing into the conversation with a broom thinking there's burgulars.
Macaque deliberately keeps it quiet on "who" he made the deal with cus he knows Wukong would freak if he knew it was the Bone Demon.

How would they react ot the nicknames
For Wukong since my version she tried King since she gets a vague like thing for it but saw he didn't understand so She goes with in public Her Champion. Or Her Eternal. In private she calls him peaches simply of the fact she smells peaches on him.
For Macaque in public she Calls him Her Warrior and Her Shadow Weaver. In private plums and Mangos since she smells them on Macaque sometimes
For Mk in public Her Harbinger and In private she Calls him Bean and Oranges
For Nezha in public Her Protector and in private Lotus and Ne ne along with petels
Mink she Calls him in public she Calls him Her Memory in private Inky
Sorry for the goop um let me get more buckets
Also my version of Master is protective of her champions aka she hears one bad mouth about them she argues back (even if she knows her champions can defend themselves effectively she likes too)
Tumblr media
"...Um, Master- Why would you need two separate nicknames for each of us?" ~ ESAU Ask Host Macaque
But that's just the Ask Host's reaction- Which was literally my first thought fhdgnfhgnhgf
In general, each of the champions would pretty much act rather positively to any nice little nickname. If they're endearing, they support just about any nickname. The only difference would mainly be their external reaction. Which ranges from Macaque's excited happiness to Wukong's silent nod in acknowledgement...
Except for Mink due to him not being under the full influence unlike the others. He would definitely question the "Her Memory" nickname, but wouldn't mind being called Inky, since it's close to his usual nickname of Minky.
He did despise any cutesy nicknames when he first became a servant, but got used to it and just doesn't care anymore. I mean, the name "Mink" itself was also something that once offended him.

Scorched chapter 3
3
He then lunges at Monkey King trying to take Mk from him.
Wukong evaded burning his hand into the ground and pulled out a staff made from a mixture of red stone and hard diamonds in a familiar golden color while a thin layer of flames danced on the staff’s ends. Wukong’s other hand was rather busy securing Mk to his chest with the coat acting as a makeshift sling.
Mei looked in worry. “Nezha… What's wrong with Monkey King?”
“Wukong has lost himself to his instincts though it seems Macaque has as well,” Nezha responds.
“We've got to get Mk out of there,” Mei says, concerned at her best friend's new form as he is stuck while the others fight.
“No, we can’t intervene in this. Not unless you want to get killed.” Nezha says.
“Why not!” Mei asked in frustration not liking her best friend stuck between two homicidal monkeys.
“Because they're lost in their instincts they won’t let anyone near Mk as he is the source of it,” Nezha explains.
Macaque lowers himself into the shadows in the ground as he moves under Wukong and grabs him by the ankles and makes him fall backward.
Wukong lets out a growl slamming the new staff into the ground while protecting Mk’s little body. He missed the fact Mk was now glowing a soft purple until the little cub popped into his own shadow making Wukong scream out of parental concern looking around for the cub chirping out a somewhat distressed call for the cub to reply to.
Mk could hear the Monkey King but it sounded muffled from the shadow realm. Part of him wants to listen to Monkey King and curl up in his embrace but something in the back of his head is telling him this isn’t right. But he doesn’t know why. His instincts caused his head to be full of cotton and screamed at him to go back to his caretaker. As Mk tries to get his head cleared Macaque comes up from behind him and grabs him. Mk ots out a chirp that screams.
PREDATOR.
SCARED.
HELP.
A purr comes from behind him.
Safe.
Calm.
Stay.
Mk’s body automatically goes limp. Mind completely lost in his instincts now unable to even render a thought. He clings to his protector in contentment. Macaque purrs louder in satisfaction as he travels away from the other with his cub. Leaving behind a very distressed Monkey King.
Said king was getting even more frantic, causing the flames to grow, becoming a wild mane of dark red ‘hair’ with gold flecks.
Nezha took a breath before looking over at the scholar. “You have the power of Tripitaka. I’m going to tell you about the sutra. I need you to keep chanting it until Wukong passes out.” Nezha directly told Tang while Mei was busy helping Pigsy and Sandy out of their ice chunk.
“M-m-me?!?” Tang coward while laughing nervously. “You think I can stop the great sage! Are you nuts!” Tang yells.
“We don't have time!” Nezha says seriously.
Tang gulps then nods “Alright what do I do?” Tang asked.
Nezha speaks in a language Tang seems to instinctively know. “That’s the sutra. Only you and the Goddess of Mercy can use it in conjunction with the Filet.”
Tang gulps then begins the sutra. Wukong let out a wretched screech and began clawing at his head as he thrashed around in pain. Tang felt guilty for hurting the sage but having no other option continued.
Tang continued until Wukong passed out cold evidenced by the mane of fire extinguishing and his magma-like skin slowly turning back to normal skin if a little hotter to the touch and covered in thick scars along his wrists, neck, and chest.
The group was silent. Only the wind could be heard whistling in their ears. Nobody dared speak a word as they stared at each other, horrified. Their minds were racing, but they were all thinking the same thing: what were they going to do now?
“We need to get Wukong to an isolated place. One where he won't risk burning down a whole city. If only we had the original maker of the fire here. They would be able to at least touch Wukong without getting burned or a full dragon born.” Nezha sighed.
Mei recalled the history of the Samadhi Fire told to them by the Demon Bull family. Red Son had created the fire… but Red Son was so far away.
“I can try to carry him,” she suggested, watching the monkey unsurely. At Nezha’s odd look, she elaborated, “My great-great-something grandfather is Ao Lie. My whole family is dragons. It’s how I inherited my sword.”
She lifted the blade, its green surface glinting against the light of the moon.
“Try it. He might be clingy from being in pain, even unconscious.” Nezha warned the young girl.
Mei nodded and bit her lip in an uncharacteristic display of nervousness. The unleashing of the Samadhi Fire had rattled her more than she wanted to admit.
She took a breath. She had to be strong - for Mk, for the world! She hoped her best friend was alright, wherever he was… Mei tiptoed forward and slowly wrapped her arms around the still Wukong.
She grimaced at the heat coming off him. “Dang, he feels like he’s got a bad fever,” Mei noted shifting Wukong to her back as his tail unconsciously curled around her waist, blood dripping down his face from under the filet. Said blood once free from his skin hardened and clinked to the stone ground looking like teardrop-shaped rubies. Mei looked at that with fear. “I don’t think blood is supposed to turn into gemstones.”
“He’s a stone monkey, which means everything in his body is stone, even the blood. Usually, it would appear like human blood but since his body has hardened to stone it will appear like one.” Nezha explains.
“That was too many words.” Mei deadpanned lost in what he said. Nezha sighs
“stone body equals stone blood” Nezha simplifies. “until his body returns to normal at least” Nezha adds.
Mei looks over her shoulder at Monkey King as she silently thinks to herself. ‘You better be fine, dumb monkey.’
“What the hell do we do now?” Pigsy says in anger. “ Because by the looks of it, we lost two fighters due to the samadhi fire.” Pigsy continues as his voice raises in volume. “AND WHERE THE HELL IS MY SON!” Pigsy yells in frustration but anyone who knows him could tell it only out of fear for Mk. The kid he adopted all those years ago. The kid arrived at his doorstep with no one watching or taking care of him. The kid who as he grew up continued to put himself in danger leaving Pigsy in great distress. Pigsy needed to find him as soon as he can.
“ We can't focus on that now.” Nezha says “We need to get Wukong out of here before Lady Bone Demon finds out he has the samadhi fire.” Nezha says.
“And leave Mk to that freak!” Pigsy yells. “ have you forgotten Macaque works for lady bone demon! He could be handing him over to her right now!” Pigsy yells in anger and fear.
“ All the more reason to get working out of here,” Nezha says. “If what you say is true then we need to get Wukong out of here or the lady bone demon will be unstoppable.” Nezha continues, “Leaving the child to be killed.” Nezha finishes off. Pigsy’s eyes go wide at the realization of the fear completely showing on his face.
“Alright then get out of here,” Pigsy says in a calm tone. Pigsy vows to himself that he’ll get the kid back no matter what.
“Tang, use my phone to call Red Son. See if we can meet him at a halfway point.” Mei requested the only other adult that wasn't as emotionally compromised.
“I can do that. I’ll see if he can't bring some clothes as well.” Tang started looking pale as he saw Wukong’s back.
Far above the group, a pair of glowing blue eyes narrowed at their departure. “My Lady will want to know of this development... It seems we will be going monkey hunting.” a creepy smile crossed the man’s lips before he stepped off the roof and disappeared in a swirl of blue mist.
The Lady Bone Demon smiled - a cruel smile, a vicious smile - as her servant arrived. His news was welcome. Fate will not stray from its path so easily. Sun Wukong and his… little followers were mere specs of dust in the sandstorm of destiny. Despite their pathetic, futile, attempts at stopping her, the future she foresaw all those years ago will come to fruition. She is, after all, nothing if not patient - hundreds of years of imprisonment will do that to you. All the pieces of the chessboard are in place. This time, she will win.
“Find the simian, I don't care how. He will be part of my machine one way or another even if we have to break him down,” she ordered her thrall, her ice creating a cage with thick bars and chains inside of it.
“Let's see how long it will take until your mate is a soulless husk, my runaway Macaque.”

Doc Dump - Almost And Enough (Shadowpeach, Lego Monkie Kid)
I have SO MANY irons in the fire right now, and this is something that has to get cut and will not be used in this particular fic. Woe, shadowpeach be upon ye
[So, I'm working on apiece taking place with Wukong in the broken scroll having to re-play his memories up to present day, but every deviation gets him sent back to Start, the curse not truly able to manifest in it's usual way. The ones with Macaque are the most difficult for him because of how differently he sees and feels about Macaque now.
Our Wukong is depicted by (Wukong) and any Wukong acting within the proper narrative is simply Wukong. The way that Tang and Pigsy and Sandy were stuck in their past lives - because Wukong has that self-knowledge to him, he's kind of able to weave between letting it happen while maintaining his awareness of himself, and being able to step in if he feels he needs to, or wants to re-establish control for himself.
This cut follows after a scene with a Drunk/Potentially-Not-Actually-Drunk Macaque at a Brotherhood banquet trying to elicit a kiss from a decidedly less drunk in-timeline Wukong, who is getting very uneasy vibes about it, despite the fondness for Mac's attention.
So, why are we cutting this?
A) I dislike how I wrote Wukong here - even for a younger self, I found this a little too hesitant and nervous. Even at his most uneasy, Wukong isn't one to stutter or lose his words, I was gunna imply maybe he was starting to feel the alcohol himself, but that just didn't pan out well.
B) I feel Macaque's a little too devious here, too unapologetic about manipulating Wukong at a point in his life where he is very much at beck-and-call. He's showing his hand a bit too fully as well, and I found it made for a distasteful character in a way I feel is out of character for /that period/ of Macaque and Wukong's relationship.
C) it didn't move. The end result we have here comes to a decided dead end and any attempts to move it passed this felt forced or unnatural and that is because this movement isn't the strongest I can make it. I have a better idea in mind to replace this sequence with, I'm not pressed.
Things I like, though?
I like the banter I got down for that intimate bit. I like how I wrote Azure, I think I nailed conveying disapproval without giving an implication that he feels anything for them - that being interpreted is different from my intention, after all - which does lend for this rather irksome Protector Syndrome that throws a wrench in things for these two, you get the idea that the mood is dead because Azure is this insistant and the inexperienced/manipulated Wukong is not weighing his situation well.
That being said - I do hope you enjoy]
--------------------------------------
Macaque blinks, his sadness turning sour. His tail drops off Wukong’s waist, not in an ordinary disappointment, but one Wukong can still rectify. He grabs Macaque's arm before he can stand to storm off (“I’ts only--”), which he promptly shakes off.
Wukong can’t just watch him stumble off. He slips away from the feast and catches up to Macaque. “It’s only cuz you’re drunk.” He shakes the word in a show of seriousness, a show of care.
Macaque’s eyes roll then screw shut to avoid Wukong’s gaze. “What a hero.”
He jogs further in order to be in front, to speak to his face. “I just meant--”
“I know what you meant.” Macaque sounds almost entertained by how badly the night turned out, as if this should’ve been predictable.
(Wukong knows now it was.)
“-- that was intense,” Wukong presses. “I mean, specifically asking me to--”
“I knooww,” Macaque’s tilting tone is that of an overlectured student.
“Just cuz you don’t think you’re that drunk, doesn’t mean you’re not that drunk.” Wukong slows his erratic pace when Macaque does. He looks at Wukong with surprise (the same surprise Wukong’s feeling for himself) “Don’t gimme that look - a sober Macaque wouldn’t have tried that even if we were alone.”
(I really caught that?)
“--Doesn’t mean we should… overdo anything we--” Wukong stutters, “--that we, uh.. Would.. Think is smart to do. Y’know, sober or not.”
Of all the times Wukong’s tongue goes lax - this would be the one.
“Y’know because - I mean, it’s not like I’m not gunna want to…” The words stick to his throat. “Not that I'm saying you’re not attractive or - or weak…  I like you -- beeeiiing forward. In general, I mean. Taking initiative, And the. ..banter was… it was, it was--”
He’s grabbed by his tunic knot. Macaque pulls Wukong close as he falls back against the solid stone of the mountain. To keep from toppling, Wukong brackets him with his arms.
“...Oh,” Wukong is breathless, feverish at Macaque’s grip on his clothes, keeping him this close. “This is… this’s.. Ah…”
Really happening, His mind races. Finally happening.
Wukong looks at Macaque, his shadow, bathed in the light of a night sky too bright to compare him to, a failure in its own right. Stars that only shine worthily when glinting off his teeth, and if a hero and a warrior are the sun and the moon, then where is the second hero to account for Macaque’s second eye?
Sounds fall out of him - “Okay.”
Wukong gets that prey feeling again when Macaque chuckles darkly. The corner of his mouth presses into a smile. “Just okay?”
For a moment, Wukong’s nerves even out, the excitement can rush through without spinning him.
“...Better than okay.” Wukong leans in, something wry on his face as he gets close to Macaque, close enough to smell plum wine and a musk only furr can cultivate. Macaque pushes up.  “Much better than okay.”
He grips Macaque’s arm, between the elbow and shoulder, and gives a squeeze that’s permission and plea. Macaque’s move to his neck, gripping the hair and fur close enough to his fingers.
Macaque leans.
Wukong pulls.
Someone coughs.
Both their heads whip soundward, and Azure Lion stands with a fist to his mouth.
“I - apologize for interrupting,” he says. “But Macaque seemed upset when you two left.” His brow raises. “Is everything okay?”
“...Yeah?” Wukong’s eyes shift to Macaque, “Yeah, we’re, ah--”, then back to Azure, “--we’re figuring it out.”
“I can see that,” Azure says. “But, it does look concerning.”
“You did say to take it inside,” Macaque helps (and it’s so blatantly smug, Wukong could choke on it).
“This isn’t inside,” Azure says (with a tone so stony, Wukong feels crushed for another five hundred years.)
(Talk about a rock and a hard place, and Wukong’s idiot baby-self caught between them doesn’t realize he can’t move).
“We’re not fighting,” Wukong interrupts. Azure’s posture doesn’t change. Through grit teeth, his friendly tone weakens, “we’re not. Fighting.”
Curb your Big Brother Complex, his friends lack of belief is like an arm's worth of pinched nerves. And take the hint. (You take the hint! Wukong wants to shake himself.)
Still, Azure looks the two of them over. Slowly, he smiles the tiniest fraction, relaxing. “Well, as long as that’s so. But we do need you both back at the table.”
“Do you?” He asks with a tinny strain.
“It’s important.”
“Is it so crucial a strategy that you can’t come back later?!” (Wukong) blurts. Azure sputters, and Macaque’s grip is tighter and moves. “Just - for five minutes, I’m not asking for - I am so close to--”
Wait.
Nothing went sideways.
This was what happened.
(He didn’t kiss Macaque)
(He doesn’t need to kiss Macaque)
“--Damnit,” (Wukong) seethes, touching his head to the stone wall in frustration. “Damnit, damnit, just--”
-----------------------------------------------
“---yeah,” He groans, falling onto the pieces of stone shell. “Yeah, that’s-  Yeah. Sure. Fuck. Damnit.”
-----------------------------------------------
“--we do need you both back at the table.”
“Do you?” He asks with a tinny strain.
“It’s important.”
“Is it?” Wukong’s voice stretches thinner -  he yelps when the hand in his hair fists, tightly.
“We need to know when to strike,” Azure, ever diligent, pushes this point.
[That is in fact it, I cut this early.]

the truce
"you picked a kid to be the protector of this land!! when you could have easily picked someone who was more qualified to do it!!" Mac yelled at Wukong from the cell they were chained up in. "but no! you had to pick someone who can't even defend himself all that well!!" at this point Mac was panting from the rant he was doing. all the while Wukong just stared at the ground his mind racing because MK was in danger and he wasn't able to do anything about it, the kid was about to go into the gauntlet that the jade emperor decided that MK has to do to free the two stone monkeys.
Wukong’s mind was racing with worry for his cub as he gripped his head and tore some hair from his head, blowing on it he hoped that the hairs would turn into clones but they just fluttered down to the ground. when Mac was done Wukong looked at him and the look that Wukong wore surprised Macaque.
it was a look of defeat, a look Macaque never seen Wukong have in all the years they have known one another. "i know... You think i don't know that!!" he yelled at Macaque across the cell they shared. "I trained him as best as i could! but when lady bone demon attacked i.. i had to-"
"You didn't have to leave him like that!!' Macaque yelled back surprising Wukong. "When you left i noticed something was up with MK after my shadow play!, after escaping from that creepy mayor i stayed with MK in the shadows! you don't know about half of the shit that happened to him Wukong!!" Macaque snarled at Wukong only to look away in a huff. " that kid... your chosen one needed you the most.... and you weren't even there... honestly to no ones surprise" he said as wukong looked down at the ground, silent for a moment till he started to tug at the chains that bound him to the wall.
Looking up Macaque watched as Wukong started to yank and pull at the shackles at first nothing happened but as he continued to pull Macaque could feel the demonic energy leaving wukong as he yelled out in anger as he pulled harder. "Come on wukong!! the old you would have leveled this palace by now!!' Macaque taunted only making Wukong pull harder and soon ripping the chains from the walls.
hunched forward Wukong panted as his old demonic power started to flood back into him, it has been centuries that he felt this much raw power that he almost lost his mind to it. but soon took a few calming breaths to collect himself. "this isn't over." Wukong growled as he walked over to Macaque and easily tore his chains out from the wall as if they were simple strings.
rubbing his wrists as he shook the shackles off Macaque just smirked at him. "I know peaches, but let's get Mk out of here before they kill him, like they tried to do to us, so truce?” He said only getting a grunt with a nod from Wukong as they easily broke out of the cell and made their way to where the fighting was happening with one thought on their mind, get MK out of here.
