honestly hearing what I’ve heard for the final part of scene 0 I just feel…disappointed.

like yeah, the ending for scene 0 can be written be written well I won’t deny that! But if they are just gonna go with the choice of “oh mabayu just goes back into the time loop cycle lol” that feels so disappointing. Like yeah sure they could write it well but with all the build up and slow burn we’ve had with scene 0 this just feels like again a disappointment.

What was up with mabayu’s mom? Why does mabayu’s aunt just act kinda weird sometimes? Why is mabayu not affected by homura’s time stopping powers? How can she remember things that happened in previous time loops? What was her wish and why can’t she remember it? What happens to mabayu? Maybe these things have already been answered but it feels so disappointing to make a slow burn with all these mysteries only to just amount to mabayu just going back in the timeloop.

this wasn’t my final straw with magia record, I think I hit that one a while ago, but it just feels for lack of a better word disappointing that this slow burn story following a mystery character chooses such an anti-climatic ending to explain why they never should in outside of their prequel.

in a weird way, I think this kinda made me aware of the kinda painful truth: Magia Record is probably entering its twilight years. Scene 0 is wrapping up, we don’t have anything more to write about with the arc 1 and arc 2 girls, other than the promise of seeing more witches and 2D model updates, plus uncapping the rest of the characters, there really isn’t much of anything else to look forward to. I mean sure they could make a whole new cast of characters but what would they do? The issues with the magical girl and doppel systems have already been fixed in the magia record universe. They can’t do much with the canon madoka magica universe especially anything after rebellion because that could impede with walpurgisnacht rising, and sure they could focus more on puella historia girls but personally I didn’t really like the puella historia story arc so I doubt I’ll care for anything more about them.

I just finished watching all of the currently translated Puella Historia events (side note: ow) and I find it interesting how the role of the girls sent back into the past differs between them

(spoilers)

Tsuruno and Sana interact with and befriend Tsuyu and Chizuru, but stay in a side roll in their story, mostly just working to keep the past the same (this is also the event with the most concrete timeline for the magical girls involved, so this is understandably given a lot of stress)

The Tokime Clan have about the same if not more focus than Ebony I'd say- they also directly help her in many ways up to and including preventing her from becoming a witch, and literally convince Nemu to let them meddle because "what if that's what we're supposed to do?"

Promised Blood could probably be edited out from Olga and Gunhild's story and it wouldn't make much difference? They do have a roll in the story of having to deal with the pain of knowing what's going to happen and not being able to stop it, but in the end it ends up as a sideplot (not a bad thing! it gives the sisters a good center stage)

and Folklore basically gets dragged into the plot no warning first thing after they arrive, and has to figure it out from there (which is very interesting for the faction that mostly works from the shadows in the main plot)

so about the mirrors witch being revealed as a collective witch/mikoto and chizuru being "fused" ... i didnt really get it but i think i understand now, so putting my thoughts here.

fyi im basing this off of summaries read and i havent bothered to read much discussion on discord, so this is probably an obvious conclusion others have already pointed out

so essentially mitama making her wish to be the creature that destroys kamihama at the same time mikoto witches out transforms mikoto into a much more powerful witch than she mightve otherwise. and because the other girls in kamihama fail to kill her during the events of breakpoint and resolve to just let her be, shes able to collect more and more energy by copying the girls that enter her labyrinth. so over time she acquires the ability to build offshoot mirrors through time and space, probably also because mitamas wish made her freakishly powerful. through these mirrors she is able to absorb the despair of girls from the past and future, which is why she was able to absorb chizuru. i guess shes taken in so much despair from other girls that this is why mikoto is now considered just the "figurehead" of sarah mirabilis w, even though she was the original solo witch to begin with. theres a bunch of other girls mixed up in there now, chizuru included. theres still other stuff i dont get, like why mikoto is able to latch herself like a parasite onto people like hanna and alina, but whatever, chalk it up to mitamas powerup

okay just wanted to get that out there, back to fighting the mirror witch. im on turn 21 and i keep getting magia locked aaarrrgh
