All right my makeup loving friends, I've been cast as a late night scream queen so I need a pale foundation and a blood red lip. And maybe something in purple and gold for my eyelids. I prefer something not too expensive but for the lipstick especially I'm willing to pay more for something that really holds and feels good.

Hey R. C., unless I'm confusing you with someone else -- did you used to have a master list of all your favorite (red) lipsticks? Search function is operating as usual, which is to say, not at all, and my go-to fave was recently discontinued 😭 any chance you could help a girl out?
Nope, that was me! But it's been quite some time since I posted about lipstick, so thank you for giving me a reason. For anyone new around here, I wear lipstick every single day. Even when I'm not going to be seeing anyone. It's just part of my face now. So, it's safe to say that I definitely have some opinions when it comes to lipstick.
This is by no means a comprehensive list, so if you have any recs of your own, please leave them in the replies!
R.C.'s Lipstick Recs for 2023
Best in Show: Beauty Bakerie
I haven't made my love and devotion for this brand a secret. 99% of the lipstick I've worn over the last 10 years has been Beauty Bakerie's lip whips. These liquid mattes are the end all be all, as far as I'm concerned. If you apply them correctly and let them dry down (using a hair dryer on the cool shot setting will set your lipstick in record time!), you'll get upwards of 12-15 hours of insanely pigmented wear—even after eating the greasiest of foods, and you won't feel like you're wearing anything at all. My best time was 19 hours before it started flaking.
Best red: Mon Cheri
Best non-red: Gingersnap (my new favorite since I dyed my hair forest green)
Best Non-Liquid Matte: NARS Velvet Matte Pencil
If it's been hours and my Mon Cheri lip whip is starting to disappear around the inside of my mouth, I immediately use my NARS Velvet Matte Pencil in the shade Mysterious Red (a perfect match) to tide me over. The NARS pencil is a beautifully pigmented, long-lasting matte that isn't drying and doesn't tend to bleed or feather.
Best red: Mysterious Red or Cruella
Best non-red: Promiscuous
Best Non-Matte: Smashbox Be Legendary Prime & Plush
I was bopping around Ulta one day (as one does) when I happened to see this on display. It swatched so beautifully on my wrist that I couldn't leave without it. Plus I had some Ulta points, which made the price tag a little easier to bear. It's an incredibly luxurious lipstick, but be careful of how soft it is: it can break easily. This is one you should apply with a brush.
Best red: Bawse
Best High End: Lancome L'Absolu Rouge
I had some Macy's Money to burn and I decided to splurge a little. This isn't a cheap lipstick. At $35, it's one of the priciest lippies I've ever treated myself to (I'm a cheap bitch, what can I say). But, as the saying goes, you get what you pay for, and what you pay for is a beautifully moisturizing lipstick with incredible color payoff. Also it smells really nice.
Best red: Rouge Badaboum
Best Drugstore Liquid Matte: Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink
Completely out of character for me, but I was actually looking for a bright 80s pink when I decided to give this a whirl. I was so impressed with the color payoff and the staying power that I went back and bought it in a red shade. Be warned: despite its longevity, it's a very sticky matte. I have pretty good luck drying it down with the blow dryer, but it takes time and patience. It will get less sticky the longer you wear it.
Best red: Exhilirator
Best non-red: Romantic
Best Drugstore Non-Liquid Matte: NYX Suede Matte
I used to be crazy about NYX's Full Throttle mattes back in the day, but I think they were discontinued, which is a shame. The Suede Matte isn't quite as long-lasting as the Full Throttle was, but it's a beautifully pigmented and non-drying matte. And for $7.99, you really can't complain. I would wear this with a lip pencil to help prevent feathering.
Best red: Spicy
Best Drugstore Non-Matte: Maybelline Color Sensational Made For All
Okay, I confess: I only bought it because I was in CVS and needed to spend a certain amount of money to use a coupon, but I was pleasantly surprised! I don't really wear this one, but I did think it was beautiful when I put it on. You can be the judge.
Best red: Crimson Race
Best Lipstain: ColourPOP Fresh Kiss Glossy Stain
Lipstick is applied as a layer on top of the lips, but lipstains are meant to be absorbed by the lips so the color lasts longer. I don't tend to wear stains, but I really like how they look on other people. I've only tried a few, but the best one I found was ColourPOP's (with Fenty's Poutsicle coming in at a close second). I'm a sucker for ColourPOP's packaging and they were so cute in Target that I couldn't resist.
Best red: Cherry Up

🎀quick review of my flip app order 🎀
Tumblr media
elf putty bronzer- i got shade feeling shady and it’s more of a contour than a bronzer as it is very cool toned. color wise i find it to be the perfect contour for pale skin +it’s a creamier dupe of the fenty matchstix in shade amber imo :)
essence my rose will go on 6 pan eyeshadow- i love the colors inside this so much, they are my everyday kind of colors anyway! the colors are so soft and blendable. the shimmers are beautiful, but i really appreciate the highlighting shade because it isn’t really glittery but has just enough gleam to highlight your brow bone without making it look like you slathered blinding highlight under ur whole brow
bye bye panda eyes mascara by essence- i was honestly expecting more, it is smudge proof like the bottle says, and removes very easily, there is no clumping like at all but my problem was that i felt the formula was a little dry and it didn’t give my lashes the extremity i was hoping for
kimchi chic puff puff pass powder- LOVEEEE. it has rice powder in it and i think that’s what makes the powder so buttery soft feeling and yes it rly feels that way. it gives a rly pretty blurring look and it’s hugeee so you get a good amount of product. they also have different shades. i apply with a triangle powder puff
kimchi chic marshmallow butter lippie- such a cute lipstick! i got shade cafe au lait looking for a dupe of lanas old signature shade blonde ingenu. it isn’t as close as i thought/hoped it would be (still on the look out tho, i’m waiting for more possible dupes to come in my mail) but it is still a really pretty light nude and the formula is really creamy and hydrating. it comes in some really nice colors. i want to try nineteen, nacho, and woot woot. this lipstick is really pretty with a brown liner and just a smidge of color on the lips
elf concealer brush and putty bronzer blush- i honestly really loved the brushes so much! the concealer brush just really blends concealer effortlessly and is great if you hate absorbing product/want a more full coverage look as opposed to using a beauty blender. the bronzer brush was a little smaller than i expected, which was actually really great because it allows me to really snatch my contour and you can control where you want to blend out easier

I've never seen anyone else talk about this (so maybe this is a thing unique to myself) but I would really, really like to see a light brown/dark blonde mascara at some point in the future that is actually light brown/dark blonde and not just soft black. As a redhead I woukd like a mascara that just makes my natural lashes pop a little and maybe tints them slightly darker but looks natural-ish and doesn't look black and I've yet to find a mascara like that. You'd think that if most drugstore mascara brands have burgundy and royal blue versions of their product they could probably make a light brown version too without too much difficulty, no? Maybe there's just not a market for it.
(I have tried using a few different kinds of blonde brow gels as mascara and they look pretty close to what I'm wanting but they always make my eyelashes hurt at the base when I wear them for some reason, probably because they aren't made for eyelashes I guess)
Anyway..... If anyone has a product recommendation here please let me know

What is the secret behind Brad Pitt's skincare routine?.
Now that Brad Pitt is a beauty founder-the actor has officially announced Le Domaine, a science-meets-nature line of genderless skincare essentials-we of course had to know: Turns out the answer is quite simple: a wash (or two).

//Introductory Post//
Hello there! Welcome to Vapours. I just wanted to make a short post as an introduction to the blog so that anyone checking the blog out for the first time can get a basic understanding of the intentions for this blog.
First a little bit about me:
My name is Kieran
I am 22 years old.
I was born and raised in England.
I am gay and identify as Non-Binary, My pronouns are He/They.
I am a university student studying History of Art and Visual Culture, and Comparative Literature and Culture at Royal Holloway University of London.
I am a qualified Makeup artist but still consider myself an amateur as I never really managed to break into the industry.
So now that’s out of the way, I’d like to start by saying I am, by no means whatsoever, an expert when it comes to reviewing or writing critically about perfume. It is a relatively new hobby to me and considering how expensive a hobby it can be it is understandably one that is progressing at a somewhat glacial pace. However, thanks to some drunk online shopping and poor financial decisions I have managed to gather a VERY modest collection of fragrances that I would very much enjoy sharing my thoughts about here with you lovely people!
As stated in the bio of this blog, I am very much an amateur when it comes to analysing and discussing fragrance from a critical standpoint, but I like to think that overtime and with more experience I could really make my mark in the fragrance community, even if it’s something as small as being a blog that people come to for honest and genuine reviews and recommendations! Over time I have stumbled across multiple content creators who make content about perfume and the passion with which they wax poetic about these olfactory delights really sparked something in me and I’d love to be able to do the same for others!
For me the world of beauty and fragrance is something that really helped feel more in touch with my body, more comfortable in my own skin, especially in terms of helping me affirm my gender as a non-binary amab person. It gave me so so much confidence! So, if you’d like, Please stick around and you might find something new to try!
Much love
Kieran x

Eyebrow Product Recs?
Hey makeup artists of tumblr, do any of you have good recs for eyebrow products for someone with more alt makeup style? My eyebrows are half shaved, and I fill in the last half of my brow to make it more straight, rather than curving.
I currently use the anastasia dip brow in a shade that's a very dark brown, but i do prefer a black brow. the dip brow isnt pigmented enough and comes off so easily. even once i started topping with black eyeshadow, it doesn't last.
I'd like something that I can use a brush with, because I do struggle with shaky hands with pens.
Please let me know your recs!

hi there! I was curious, do you use the beauty bakerie remover as well? or is there a cheaper equivalent that works? your post inspired me to finally buy some lip whip :)
I just use the regular ol' Neutrogena makeup remover wipes (blue package). You can also use your every day makeup remover liquid and it works just as well.
Don’t forget to scrub your lips to get rid of dead skin (I just use a warm, wet facecloth) and invest in a good lip balm to wear overnight/before you apply your matte for the day (I highly recommend Burt’s Bees Renewing Lip Treatment—pricey for a balm, but totally worth it).
Helpful tip: When you apply the Lip Whip, do it in stages. Apply your bottom lip first and wait for it to dry down before you apply your top lip. You can speed up the drying process with a handheld fan, or my personal favorite: a hair dryer on low using the cool shot setting.
Let me know how it goes!
