I like that "spaghetti westerns" are called that. It sounds so arbitrarily dismissive but sums the genre up nonetheless. You could make a whole parody genre of the genre itself, pick a historical time and place and start filming movies with varying degrees of historical accuracy somewhere completely different. A series of samurai-movies set and filmed in Finland called maksalaatikko-easterns. Have fun pronouncing that btw.

They all have a big dinner where everyone brings a dish from their culture,
Everyone brings really good looking foods and Alador pulls up with mämmi(rye pudding?), maksalaatikko (liver casserole) and kossu🙏🙏🙏
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alador and the kids walking in to be greeted by Eda who takes the Kossu for herself because "Vodka is Vodka" and tells them to put the rest of the food on the table
Also, imagining Amity needing to make a dish for a school project
Amity: Dad, I need your help for a project
Alador: Me?
Odalia butting in: HIM? 👺
Amity: Yeah we need to make dish based on our culture
Odalia: Why didn't you think of asking me instead? 🙃
Amity: You come from a line of Americans, you have no culture :/
Odalia: Oh, and your idea was to just make our family look like swine by serving the slop your father would make? 🤨
Alador: Hey... I'm pretty sure what you said is some type of -ism
Amity: Xenophobia.
Alador: No Mittens I'm Finnish

Oot sie päässy maistaa suomalaisii ruokii (esim. salmiakki, piimä, mämmi, hernekeitto, makaroni- & maksalaatikko yms.) ja jos oot nii mitä mieltä?
muutamia oon maistanut! sijoitus seuraa:
En yleensä pidä sopasta mut tää on poikkeusta.

Do you have any favourite traditional Finnish dishes, or ones you absolutely hate?
My digestion issues prevent me from freely eating stuff so there are some favorite dishes I can't have anymore, like mustikkakukko, which is a rye blueberry pie from my home region, eaten with a vanilla sauce.
Tumblr media
Same with karjalanpiirakka, which is a rye pastry with rice porridge in the middle. All foreigners love these! They're celebration food for wedding and funerals with an egg-butter spread (similar to Japanese tamago sando filling, except use butter instead of mayonnaise), otherwise just a daily food.
Tumblr media
What I can eat and like to eat whenever possible is poronkäristys, sauted reindeer, with mashed potatoes and lingonberry jam.
Tumblr media
Karjalanpaisti stew is also something that's OK to my stomach.
Tumblr media
What I sometimes eat and take the risk of upsetting my stomach is suklaapuuro, chocolate porridge. It's eaten both warm and cold (I eat it cold), and it's made from semolina and cocoa powder.
Tumblr media
Every foreigner HATES Easter delicacy mämmi, which is made from rye, syrup and molasses. It's eaten with sugar and heavy cream. I can't eat it anymore but I loved it ToT
Tumblr media
Maksalaatikko, liver casserole, is something I could eat every day but my stomach is NO. So I have it a bit a few times a year, if possible. It sounds horrible - rice porridge baked in oven with raisins and liver pieces - but it's delicious. Usually eaten with lingonberry jam.
Tumblr media
Fish foods are a big thing here and those are something I don't eat. I'm not a fan of sea food or fish. Everyone loves salmon and I'm like MEH.

maksalaatikko my beloved

You piqued my curiosity. It all looked pretty standard to me until I encountered maksalaatikko. Is that what you were referring to ?
yeah!!! that's the one i was mostly thinking of - maksalaatikko is liver casserole if google is translating it right, but yeah a lot of people put raisins in it. it's a very dividing thing, some people hate the raisins, some love them. i've never liked maksalaatikko anyway :D people also serve shredded carrots with raisins which is another weird thing. we used to occasionally have that as "salad" in school

European culture is thinking that the american “white people foods are nasty” meme only covers the cuisine of white americans until it occurs to you that everyone you know has an opinion on whether liver casserole should have raisins in it.
