#maybe it's because he was scared of losing Wataru if he tells him or something because that would make it realy but just

Pls i cant stop thinking about the 5 eccentrics finding out (well, minus wataru) Rei calling Shu like hey, did you hear that eichi got married. And shu being upset wataru didnt tell him, i mean, yes they wanted a private wedding maybe but at least let HIM kno- "no, not to wataru" "......oh tenshouin must have a deathwish then". So it's bad as it is but then they find out wataru didnt know either and ensemble square needs to up its security because theres nothing that can protect eichi from their wrath. I like the idea of passive aggressive rei because he Knows what the others have in store
I think even in that case Wataru would still be like "well...you know, it's a shame but it couldn't be helped" and he'd put such an effort into pretending he's fine but one look at him and it's obvious he's been crying
#and that's the moment Shu decides that he doesn't care about the consequences he just walks up to that dorm room#and Rei and Aira and Mika have to physically restrain him from committing actual murder.#but I think the tragic things is that Eichi would also feel horrible#he would feel so so so bad#because it's true he does love Wataru a whole lot so I think he would be just as heartbroken about tha whole thing#my main gripe I have with him isn't even that he's engaged it's just#you could've at least told him....#like. thats the Bare Minimum#maybe it's because he was scared of losing Wataru if he tells him or something because that would make it realy but just#the bar wasn't high Eichi.....the bar was on the ground.....the bar was almost six feet under#and you still managed to screw it up#I don't even think Wataru would've been angry with him he would've just been sad but I think he'd get it#a sad kind of defeated understanding acceptance of the situation#but at least he would've known#because I mean. what would this entire thing even tell him#Yeah sorry dude he got married to another girl behind your back yes he's been engaged for a year yes he didn't tell you#sorry my condolences seems you weren't important enough to him seems he wasn't as serious about this as you were#seems he saw no issue with that whatsoever seems be was planning to discard you anyways and you were just his bit on the side to pass time#seems you didn't mean enough to him to give you a choice in the matter#looks like he didn't care about how you would feel about this#oh you thought you were partners? oh you thought you would talk to each other about importnat things? sorry. afraid not.#and you're an idiot for thinking so#Eichi Tenshouin you might not be able to fix this one if you don't grow a backbone and communicate. Think wisely if it's worth the losses.#cobalt🐍#wataei#<- I feel like being a little mean

You knew staying up late was bad for your health, and it affects how you perform every day and how it was always so blatantly obvious to others when you didn't sleep… forcing people to care, you felt bad but It couldn't be helped. Wataru was simply worried, why would you need to hide anything from him? He couldn't understand it, but he’d never push you about it.
He was your boyfriend after all. So he let you do your work, fully aware that you stayed up until the point of exhaustion… and he could only sigh in disappointment and concern. Had he ever tried to get you to tell him your problems? Of course, he did, you said things were fine, as usual.
You still didn’t expect to be standing in front of the bedroom door right now, as if it wasn't also your room as much as it was Wataru’s. Honestly, you feel kind of embarrassed for just finally deciding to seek out your lover and at such a late hour in the first place. But, you really couldn’t help it. You had a horrible dream earlier, it was more like a nightmare of you losing everything you worked so hard to build together. Losing Wataru was an essential part of the so-called nightmare and was what was the worst, you were over-thinking your worth and capability. Leading your heart splitting in half, and shattering you altogether. In your dreams, Watari and others had called you names. They weren’t the usual names he called you, each filled with malicious intent and pure venom. The Wataru in your dreams was the complete opposite of the sweet caring jester you fell in love with.
The Wataru from your dream had left you an empty shell after he left you.
And so here you are in front of the shared bedroom door, your hand clenched on your chest as you debated whether or not to knock on his door or just try to finally put aside all this work and just sleep. Taking a shaky breath, you raise your hand that was resting on your chest and gently knock on the door. A couple of seconds pass and you hear a loud stirring inside the bedroom
You let out a huff and run a hand through your hair. Maybe you’re being delirious, dumb even. Of course Wataru wouldn’t forget about you. You just had a dumb dream and you should just get over it. You look at his door again before turning to go back to your room, mentally yelling at yourself for overreacting over such a sleep deprived dumb dream.
However, you stop walking when you hear the door creak open and a very awake voice call out for you.
“Darling? What's the matter?” Wataru’s voice called out, a tanned hand underneath his shirt to scratch at his chest. One of his eyes was still shut while the other squinted at you, examining you as if you were some special artifact. “Did you need something~?” Suddenly, both of his eyes shot open. “Oh, dear! Why were you crying? I can see the tears smearing your beautiful face... You look exhausted.”
Well there was no getting out of it now, you thought. He saw the tears, there was clearly a problem and this time you would not be backing away from yelling him, he wasn't going to allow you try it either. “No… okay, well yes! I wanted to check up on you after I had a bad dream regarding us and everyone else, but I see that I was the idiot in thinking that anything bad would actually happen between us.”
At this, Wataru’s face softens. “You had a bad dream, and you came to me? Oh my, sweet dove.”
You cross your arms and give him a look. “You’re my boyfriend, of course, id come to you first! You told me that if I ever felt scared or anything… I can just call for you or go to you.”
Wataru smiles at this, causing your cheeks to warm up a bit. You’re about to tell him that you’re fine now and decide on going to bed after countless days of overworking yourself with the only energy you got being from sources such as energy drinks, but a warm hand reaches for your own and tugs you towards him. Before you know it, you're whisked into the bedroom and onto his bed.
You feel his arms around your waist, and he pulls you closer to him, your back pressing firmly against his chest. You’re about to protest, but Wataru’s moving to rest his forehead against your shoulder stops you.
“I don’t know what happened specifically… But I assure you I won’t ever do anything to you,” he says to you, his voice oddly quiet and tender for a moment like this. “I told you, when you’re ever scared you can always come to me! Or call my name, and I promise you I’ll be there for you. I’m the Great Hibiki Wataru, so of course, I’ll do what I can to secure you.” You snort at the last bit, but feel better at his reassuring words.
Before you know it, you’re dozing off again. Feeling Wataru’s arms around you, hearing his beating heart thud against his chest as he held you, and the soft and comforting words and promises were all enough to bring you a sense of comfort and belonging, and you couldn’t help but let your eyes flutter close and your breathing even out.

hii you said that requests were open so i was wondering if you’d want to write an iwaoi sick fic? like it’s a middle of a practice match agaisnt some school and oikawa feels sick but doesn’t tell anyone beforehand?
Hello and thank you for the request!! I hope this is kinda what you wanted. I tried :) sorry it took me a minute!
An Off Day: an IwaOi Sick fic
Pairing: Sick Oikawa, Caretaker Iwaizumi
Words: ? (I didn’t get a count sorry—longer though)
Warnings: fever, passing out, cursing
————————
It was a dull day.
Oikawa sat in class, his head resting on his palm, and everything just felt faded. Existing as a human today seemed like entirely too much work.
He wasn’t sure what it was, but his entire day, his surroundings, his overall demeanor— none of them were as vivid and bright as usual. Things were just...off.
He felt off.
A lethargic and overall blah feeling clung to him like a thick winter coat, making him feel like he couldn’t breathe and leaving his head muddled. He didn’t know what was going on with his body and it was incredibly frustrating.
Oikawa scoffed to himself, ignoring the curious side eye from the girl next to him, and resolutely decided to ignore the dull, blah feeling. Surely if he willed himself to feel less blah, then that would put the pep back in his step. Besides, this was his last class of the day and then it was time for practice.
They were playing some no-name, no-skill team in what Oikawa deemed a “charity” practice match. For the other team, it would be a learning experience. For Seijoh, it would be another victory to add to their running total.
Class finally ended and he stood up to head to the club room. Immediately, his knees buckled and black spots danced in his vision. A small hand grasped his upper arm and held him steady. Once the spots cleared, he saw the small girl who sits next to him looking up at him, concern etched into her face.
“Oikawa-san? You look pale. You should go home and rest. I’m sure they’ll be okay without you at practice today.” He shook his head.
“I just got up too fast. Thank you for helping me out,” he smiled and she hesitantly let his arm go. She nodded, grabbed her bag, and left the classroom.
Oikawa, much to his dismay, was still dizzy though. He placed his hands on his desk and ducked his head, squeezing his eyes shut while he waited for it to pass.
In the club room, he met up with Iwaizumi and chatted with his other teammates here and there, resolutely ignoring the fatigue thay plagued him.
Warm-ups came and went and their coach went over the rotation for the practice match. All the while, the lethargy he felt never went away like he thought it would. In fact, it seemed to be increasing and there was now a dull, consistent thudding in his head. Maybe it was more than just an off day? Maybe something was wrong?
He didn’t get much time to explore the new thoughts, because the other team arrived and their practice match began. Oikawa was right; the other team wasn’t a challenge in the slightest. The fact that it was any easy game didn’t make him feel any better about his complete lack of game.
Nearly every single one of his sets was wrong. Too high or too low. Too far left or right. The ball wasn’t settling in his fingers the way he needed it too and it all irritated him to no end.
He couldn’t concentrate. Every now and then, the court tilted dangerously sideways and he had to consciously ground his feet to bring it back to equilibrium. He was starting to feel weak. His limbs weighed about 1,000 lbs, making every lift of his arms to set the ball or movement of his legs to cross the court a Herculean effort. All he wanted was to curl up on the ground and take a nap.
“Hey, you okay?” Matsu walked up to him during a break between serves and put a hand on his shoulder. He was frowning. Oikawa glowered at him.
Was he okay? No. Of course not. He was 98% sure that he had a fever. Would that stop him from playing? No. Of course not. This was an easy team to beat. If he couldn’t push through this, then he wasn’t worth anything to his team.
“Yeah. Fine.” He snapped. Matsuhana put his hands up and backed away. Play resumed.
It was just a cold. He could shake this feeling if he just pushed through it hard enough. If Oikawa was confident of anything, it was his ability to ignore negative feelings and punch through bad moods.
That confidence slowly drained out of Oikawa along with any energy and focus he may have had the longer the game continued.
The two teams switched sides of the court and Iwaizumi appeared at his side.
“Hey, what’s the deal? You okay? We should have taken this set a long time ago,” he grumbled, his usual grumpy tone setting all of Oikawa’s already frazzled nerves even more on edge. His lip curled as he glanced over at his best friend.
“Thanks, Iwa-chan, I didn’t realize,” he sneered. Iwa’s eyes widened and he blinked comically. Oikawa would have made a joke if he wasn’t feeling so shitty.
“Don’t take it out on me, Trashykawa,” Iwa’s eyes narrowed, “your sets have been off all match.”
Oikawa felt like he was slapped in the face because he knew that. Of course he was more than aware that not a single one of his sets hit their mark yet. It was eating away at him and it made his stomach churn. He could do this though. He would not let his team down.
“I know,” he muttered. Iwa’s face changed again, but Oikawa’s vision blurred and he couldn’t make out what expression the ace had. He walked away.
“Oi, come back here a seco—“ Iwa started but was cut off by their coach.
“Iwaizumi! You gonna stand around and talk all day or are you gonna let us resume the match?”
He glanced one more time at Oikawa before getting into position. Oikawa thought maybe he looked concerned or upset or something, but he honestly didn’t have the energy to figure it out. It was all he could do to stand up right.
The set continued and each passing second was an eternity to Oikawa. Black spots popped up more frequently and he had to squeeze his eyes shut quickly and exhale to keep himself from passing out. It was a losing battle.
The dull thud in his head grew into a steady pounding that took up residence behind his eyes, leaving him vaguely nauseated. It was getting harder to breathe, even though he wasn’t running around like he normally would be. The gym swirled and he blinked several times, but it wasn’t going back to normal. The sounds of shouting and squeaking shoes faded away, replaced by a strange roaring sound.
Oikawa realized very quickly that he was in serious trouble.
“Oikawa!” Wataru’s shout cut through the roaring and sent a sharp pain through his head. As quickly as it left, the roaring in his ears returned and with it, his vision completely blacked out. It took all his effort to call out for help.
“Iwa-cha—“ the sound got caught in his throat and his body crumpled to the floor.
The next thing he knew, Oikawa was staring at the ceiling. He blinked a few times and groaned. The lights beaming down on him reminded him of the migraine he definitely had and he shivered. Why was he on the ground?
“Tooru? Oh thank god,” Iwa’s face entered his field of vision (and blocked the light, thankfully). His voice was shaking and desperate, adding to Oikawa’s confusion.
“Iwa-chan?” He said feebly.
“Are you okay? What hurts? Fuck, Tooru. You scared the shit out of me,” Iwaizumi was frantic, his hands cupping Oikawa’s face, making the sick boy cringe. Touching was no good. He didn’t want that right now.
The corners of Iwaizumi’s mouth pulled down and his eyebrows scrunched. He moved one of his hand’s to Oikawa’s forehead and the other to his own. His eyes blew wide.
“Holy shit, Tooru! Why didn’t you tell anyone you were sick, dumbass?”
Oh. He’d been caught.
“Would you believe me if I told you I didn’t know?” He smiled weakly up at his best friend, who scoffed in return.
“Idiot,” he mumbled before turning his head towards somewhere above Oikawa. The lights pierced Oikawa’s vision and he moaned when his head pulsated. He tried to curl up, but Iwaizumi was already trying to get him standing.
“Coach, he’s got a fever,” Iwaizumi shouted across the gym and Oikawa’s knees buckled. Luckily, Iwa’s arms were securely around his waist.
“I’m gonna take him to the club room and call one of our moms to come pick us up. Do you need me here?”
“No, go take care of our idiot captain,” their coach responded, his arms crossed over his chest. Normally, Oikawa would’ve squaked at the insult, but it was taking all of his attention to stay awake.
“We got this man. Go handle the child,” Makki snickered.
“Mean, Makki,” Oikawa managed to whine as he and Iwa stumbled out of the gym.
By the time they got back to the club room, Oikawa was sweating profusely, panting, and leaning almost all of his weight on Iwaizumi.
Iwa led them to the back of the clubroom and guided them down to sit against the wall. Oikawa shivered and immediately curled into Iwa’s side.
“How the hell did you let it get so bad, Shittykawa,” Iwa questioned. His tone held more concern than malice and it settled Oikawa’s nerves ever so slightly.
“Mmm, so warm Iwa-chan,” was all Oikawa could respond with. Iwaizumi scoffed, but threw an arm around Oikawa’s shoulder and pulled him closer anyway. The setter smiled.
“Yo, who should I call?” Iwaizumi asked, his tone still lacking its normal gruffness.
“Everyone in my family is working right now, Iwa-chan. No one is going to pick up,” Oikawa said. His throat was getting sore now. That means he’s sick sick. He frowned. Another shiver shot up his spine.
Iwa sighed, “okay. I’ll call my mom. She won’t be able to get here for at least half an hour though. Will you be okay until then? We can take the bus if you want.”
Oikawa nuzzled into Iwa’s shoulder. The smallest hints of his cologne were still present, despite getting sweaty from practice.
“No. No bus. We’ll want for Auntie, if that’s okay with you?”
“Yeah, that’s fine. I’ll call her.”
“I’m sorry, Iwa-chan,” Oikawa yawned. His eyes started drifting closed. Man, did a nap sound perfect right now.
“Don’t apologize, Tooru. Just scared me,” Iwa muttered and Oikawa felt the ace’s nose nuzzle into the top of his head. He relaxed further, in spite of the chills running through his body.
“Get some rest. I’ll wake you when my mom gets here,” Iwa whispered and Oikawa couldn’t remember the last time he sounded so soft. At least towards him anyway. Iwaizumi pulled Oikawa down gently so the setter’s head was pillowed on his lap.
Oikawa fell asleep to Iwaizumi’s gentle hands carding through his hair.

Brothers Conflict: Passion Pink - Kaname route - Scene 2 - On the Beach at Night
HAHA, A ROMANCE SCENE! ENJOY.
I’ve smoothed over some bits to make the English flow better. My comments are at the end.
This scene directly follows after Main 9: Vacation Day 2.
Brothers Conflict Translations Index
August 12 (Thursday)
(A lot of things happened today… Although I was shocked when I heard that Wataru was missing, it’s great that nothing [bad] happened.
Anyway… I can’t sleep for some reason… My body should be tired, but my eyes are wide open.
Maybe… it’s Kaname-san’s fault… I can’t get him out of my head… The feeling of being hugged by his large arms hasn’t gone away…
Aahh, it’s no good…! Since I was thinking about it so much, my eyes are extra wide open. What should I do…)
Kaname: Oh? Imouto-chan? What are you doing here at this time?
Ema: ! … Kaname-san. Ah… I somehow… can’t sleep. Kaname-san, how about you?
Kaname: I was thinking of enjoying the night breeze a bit. Ah, that’s right. If you like, would you like to come with me?
Ema: Eh…?
[Choice: Go together.]
Ema: Ah… Sure. If it’s not annoying to you…
Kaname: Haha. I invited you, so no such thing! Anyway, shall we?
Ema: … Yes.
---
Kaname: It’s good that the rain has stopped.
Ema: Yes… And the night breeze feels nice.
Kaname: Yeah.
Ema: …
Kaname: …
(The sound of waves was carried by the mild wind blowing. Kaname was somewhat of few words tonight… His expression while looking out at the ocean was very calm. I think this was the first time I had ever seen him like this…)
Kaname: Hey… You can laugh at me and say I’m pretending. [**1]
Ema: … What is it?
Kaname: I like the ocean at night.
Ema: The ocean… at night?
Kaname: Yeah. When it gets dark, the boundary between sea and sky disappears, you see. To be tossed out into the wide space, it feels somewhat uneasy… I think that kind of feeling is good. [**2]
Ema: To be uneasy… is good?
Kaname: Yes. When you stand in a place where you can feel the power of nature… You can feel keenly humankind’s powerlessness, and that our existence is due only to heaven’s grace. The little things that we are troubled by, disappointed by, become very trivial. That’s why, every so often just like this, I look out at the ocean at night. Because I can empty my mind.
Ema: … Kaname-san…
Kaname: Hm?
Ema: You can think about that sort of thing, huh…
Kaname: Hmm? What do you mean?
Ema: It’s a little surprising. I thought that the inside of Kaname-san’s head was (just) filled with girls…
Kaname: Ehhh? How cruel. I’m still a monk though. I think about world peace and peace of mind, and then just a little bit about girls, you know?
Ema: See! You do think about girls after all!
Kaname: Haha, you’ve got me.
Ema: Hehe… However.
Kaname: Hm?
Ema: What you were saying earlier…. To be thrown out into such a dark place, I think is a bit frightening.
Kaname: That’s right, it’s frightening. But… it’s alright. If you are scared, I’ll come save you before you start crying.
Ema: Eh…?
Kaname: Today, not knowing where he was, you tried desperately to find Wataru… If anything happens to you, I’ll come save you. Thank you for what you did today. That a girl like you is my little sister, I think is truly great.
(Ah, that’s it-- I see. Kaname-san is always laughing lightly and making jokes. Today I feel he’s somehow being very… kind…)
Kaname: Mm! Well, I think I’ll enjoy the night ocean a bit more!
Ema: Eh… Kaname-san…? It’s dark, so it’s dangerous to go so far out into the water!
Kaname: It’s fine~!
(Saying that and laughing, Kaname-san seems a bit like a kid… As I beheld another of his expressions that I’d never seen before, my heart gave a small… thump, like the swell of a wave… I wonder why... ?)
Kaname: Whoa!?
Ema: Hey…! K-Kaname-san!? What happened!?
Kaname: ...Pah! Wha, what…? What is this, seaweed? I got tangled and tripped over from this?
Ema: …! Hehe! Kaname-san, you’re soaked!
Kaname: What is this, ugh… Not cool…
Ema: Hehe, are you alright? If you like, please hold onto me (and I’ll pull you up).
Kaname: Thanks. However, Imouto-chan. You were laughing at me just now, weren’t you?
Ema: Eh---?
(I was pulled over by the hand I’d extended toward Kaname-san. And then…)
Ema: … Pah!
Kaname: Haha! Payback for laughing.
Ema: Che… T-Terrible! Now I’m all soaked..!
Kaname: Haha, that’s right-! But hey… it was hot all day today, so doesn’t it feel nice…?
Ema: …!! W-what are you saying… Ah--
(When I looked up, Kaname-san’s face and chest were right in front of my eyes… Suddenly, I remembered when he hugged me this afternoon… And my heart started pounding loudly again…)
Kaname: You face… It’s red? Is it still (too) hot…?
Ema: It’s n-not hot…
(At that moment… I saw something out the corner of my eye.)
Ema: … Oh? Kaname-san, there’s… Around your right collarbone, what is that…
Kaname: Hm? Ahh, this? It’s a tattoo.
Ema: Tattoo? Ah… It’s the first time I’ve seen it. Um, is this a cross?
Kaname: Eh… Ahh, no. It’s a short sword.
Ema: Ah… That’s right. Since you’re a monk, it wouldn’t be a cross… Pardon me.
Kaname: …… Say, Imouto-chan. Can I tell you something?
Ema: Hm? What is it…?
Kaname: It’s something related to the sword. A long time ago, in a play from England, there was a line, “The pen is mightier than the sword.”
Ema: A pen? A sword…?
Kaname: Yes. It means that words surpass armed force. However, in this world, there is something much stronger than the sword or the pen.
(...... Why is… Kaname-san’s face… getting closer…)
Kaname: That would be… love.
[Kaname kisses Ema.]
(.....? Wha…. What just… happened…)
Kaname: … Mm.
(Kaname-san’s lips… and my lips are…)
Kaname: … Earlier, I emptied out my mind. Now, I want to fill it with you… Is that okay, Ema…?
Ema: ……!!
[Ema pushes Kaname, and he splashes back into the water.]
Kaname: …! Imouto-chan!?
(In a daze, I pushed Kaname-san away. From far away… mixed in with the sound of waves behind me, I thought I heard Kaname-san’s voice calling out to me… But I couldn’t look back. I could only run to the cottage…) [**3]

Notes:
1. What does 「スカしてる」mean in English? From Googling Japanese forums, I’ve translated it to “pretend” but it doesn’t seem right.
2. Where it says “uneasy”, the term was 「心もとない」, which also doesn’t seem right in English.
3. “In a daze” was 「無我夢中で」, which my dictionaries tell me is “to lose oneself, to be absorbed in”.
-----
Comments:
Ahhhhh, Kaname~~ Like I said in my previous entry, I think he confirmed his love for her during the afternoon when they were looking for Wataru, and then confessed it here. As much as he works fast, I don’t think his love for her comes out of nowhere. Actually, it might even be that during the previous 3 months after she moved in, depending on how family-oriented she was, he would have been falling for her during that time. (That said, the book pretty much skips from her moving in, to some beginning mishaps, straight to the vacation. And same with game.) In the cover of the second book, Ema asks the brothers what they consider most important. Kaname says “... Family. Of course, you too. Very important.” while looking contemplative. (I will promptly ignore the fact that in Kaname’s route in the game, if you raise family love too much, you will miss his scenes. Which is why I didn’t finish his route the first time around.)
That said, the game does this scene way better than the book, especially at the end. Ema is still slow here, but at least she has a clear response. (Even if it may be disappointing to us fangirls.) In the book, she does jack-all and just sits there in his kiss while Juli is screeching in the background.

What about the Knights+Fine reacting to an S/O who has a Protective older brother?
Ahhh I’m totally not procrastinating on Matchups whaat-
These were so fun to write! I’m not as used to Fine’s personalities so I’ve been learning so much about those four! They’re growing on me… I used to hate Eichi, but I don’t know-
Hope you enjoy !!
Leo:
Around their brother, Leo acts like the perfect boyfriend. Like a true knight; the same way he acts around his younger sister. He can tell that it would be better for both of them to lay off his usual antics while their brother is around.
He usually doesn’t mind how protective he is. After all, Leo is the same for his younger sister. You’d think they could bond over their love for their younger siblings, and sometimesthey do.
That is, until something sets Leo off. If he’s told to stop dating his s/o, or something of the sort, he can’t stand for it. He’ll start arguments, stand up for the both of them, and put their brother in his place. Being protective is one thing. But taking away his sibling’s happiness just because he doesn’t want to see them dating? That makes him a terrible person.
No matter what, Leo stands up for himself and his s/o without fear. He’s not going to let their brother ruin their relationship.
Sena:
He’s ready to fight this dude. He understands being protective, that’s something Sena can relate to. Wanting to protect them. But they belong to him, not to their brother.
Their brother is his most hated person in the world. He has never hated anyone as much as he does this guy. He’s always trying to get Sena to leave when he comes over, stop him from taking his s/o on dates, and purposefully makes situations awkward.
Constantly throwing dirty looks and glares his way. Anything that brother tries to do to intimidate him never even makes the silverette budge. The two tend to get into rather… heated arguments.
It’s Sena’s favorite thing to rub it in their brother’s face, that the two of them are dating. He’ll come over bearing gifts for no reason, sneaking in a glance his direction. Those two hate each other, but Sena knows he’s winning. His s/o is always told by their brother that he’s a terrible person, and Sena complains about him from time to time.
Arashi:
Arashi doesn’t mind much. He understands that their brother is only looking out for them. He is always super sweet to their brother, even if he’s being insulted. He guessed that if he’s nice enough, maybe he’ll earn trust somehow. When he comes over to their house, he usually brings stuff for their family and gives it to their brother. Hopefully he’ll warm up…
But when their brother tries to stop them from going on a date, Arashi tries to reason with him. He rarely gets too forceful, in fear he will lose all progress. Usually he somehow makes a compromise.
Sometimes Arashi will invite their brother out with the couple. That way, they can still go on a date, and their brother can see that Arashi really makes his sibling happy.
Though he’ll admit that it can be slightly annoying at times, he’s willing to wait until he proves himself as a worthy boyfriend for his s/o. Hopefully it doesn’t take too long…
Ritsu:
Brothers. Something Ritsu had come to despise, thanks to his own brother. Luckily, he knows how to deal with annoying brothers. He hates their brother almost as much as he hates Rei. Rei is a special case. If there were levels of how he classifies people on a hate scale, their brother would be on the dirt bottom. But Rei would score below the scale.
Ritsu treats their brother a lot like how he treats Rei. (really, he thinks of their brother as their own version of Rei) He usually just avoids him, dragging his s/o along. And when he can’t manage to avoid their brother completely, he pretends that he doesn’t exist.
Before making plans to come over, Ritsu always asks if their brother is home. If they say yes, then he insists that they come over to his house. Rei usually leaves him alone, unlike their brother.
Ritsu disregards everything that their brother tries to say. Sometimes it really seems like he doesn’t exist, with Ritsu talking over him or just ignoring him.
Suou:
This poor boy. Is a nervous wreck. He’s definitely not used to being hated; sure, Leo might say he’s annoying, and Sena might call him bratty, but they still care for him. When it comes to his s/o’s brother, he honestly can’t tell. And it frustrates him beyond belief.
He’s always super cautious around their brother, trying to impress both his s/o and their brother. Usually he fails miserably, and does something clumsy and embarrasses himself.
Once they get alone time away from their brother, Suou will apologize over and over for how nervous he gets. He wishes he could just magically get confidence.
Hates having to share them with their brother. He’s really greedy, and easily jealous. He wants to have his s/o all to himself, without having to share with anyone. So having no power to stand up for himself makes him terribly hard on himself. He tends to stress eat after he gets home, especially if he encounters their brother.
Eichi:
Eichi finds it honestly amusing how his s/o’s brother tries so hard to keep the two of them apart. He never seems afraid or worried in the slightest; instead, laughing at his attempts. Their brother really thinks he can scare Eichi off? It’s really innocent; almost cute.
Whenever given the chance, he loves to go to their house and taunt their brother. He’ll be awfully touchy around him; even kissing them right in front of their brother. Sometimes, he’s told to “get his hands off them,” or something similar. He just laughs, teasing “Oh? You mean stop… this?” as he continues to do as he pleases. The only one that can get him to stop is his s/o.
Unlike most of the other boys, Eichi prefers having their brother being so protective. It’s his favorite form of entertainment. He often thanks their brother for bringing him so much joy. Their s/o is always apologizing to their brother, while dragging Eichi off.
Tori:
Tori absolutely hates their brother’s guts. How dare a commoner tell him what to do! Ugh, he thinks he’s so special. He’s nothing more than cattle. It’s kinda funny, having him all worked up over it. He’s not used to having people stand up to him, let alone tell him what to do.
Arguments are inevitable. If their brother even hints at saying something against Tori, he’ll throw a fit. These fits include whining to his s/o, insulting their brother, crying, and other things that kids do when they throw tantrums. Though the arguments usually start with Tori “putting their brother in his place,” and refusing to listen to him, it can escalate very quickly into crying.
He’s constantly complaining to his s/o. “Why is your brother so annoying?!” He’ll whine about how their brother doesn’t deserve to be siblings with them- they’re too good for him! It’s mostly just the fact that he has to share something that’s supposed to be his, and his only.
Wataru:
Having a bit of competition is fun for Wataru. He’s constantly challenging their brother to competitions and such, usually ones that he wins. He claims that it’s exciting to have to fight for their love; and often makes it more dramatic than necessary.
He’s always trying to show their brother up, proving that he’s a more suitable protector for his s/o. Their brother is always keeping him on his toes, which Wataru loves. He claims that it adds drama and excitement to their “love tale.” It’s like one of those classic love triangle dramas, except against a sibling relationship and a romantic relationship. Recently, he’s been preparing a similar play for the theater club.
Wataru, unlike the others, doesn’t specifically try to avoid or seek out their brother. He won’t care about him being there or not, but if he is, Wataru won’t mind. Sure, it’s fun having the competition that their brother provides, but he won’t want to purposefully go to their house just to encounter him.
Yuzuru:
It always makes Yuzuru feel guilty when his s/o’s brother goes off on him. All of his words are taken sincerely, which make Yuzuru question whether he’s really worthy of dating them. As a butler, it’s his duty to keep everyone he works for happy. But the fact that their brother is never happy with him really brings him down.
He tries his best to befriend their brother, but it never seems to work. When he comes to their house, he’ll offer to do many things for them. He often cleans while he’s over, as well as serving tea for the two. It’s not just him trying to win their brother’s favor, he just feels like he needs to earn his time there.
If he’s told to do something, he has to obey. That’s what was drilled into him from his past as a servant. So if he’s told to not take his s/o out somewhere, he doesn’t have the ability to disagree. Many plans have been canceled because of it. He’ll apologize endlessly over the phone, and even thought about asking Tori how to be more self-centered. (He did, and Tori slapped him)

Bookshelf Briefs 9/11/17
Absolute Duo, Vol. 1 | By Shinichirou Nariie, Takumi Hiragiboshi, and You Asaba| Seven Seas – In general, fans tend to dislike a couple of things in the manga they read, especially Western fans. The first is the tsundere female lead, and the second is the super-powered male lead. Not sure yet whether we’ll get the second, but Absolute Duo seems to be free of the first. Unfortunately, that does sort of make it clear why manga and light novel authors enjoy writing tsundere female leads—the conflict here is rather mild and undramatic, with our hero fighting against a nice girl, and when she loses, she just… says bye and leaves. As for the actual heroine, she’s nice and shy and sort of self-sacrificing. Absolute Duo is decent, and I like everyone, but if you didn’t see another volume you’d barely care. – Sean Gaffney
A Certain Scientific Accelerator, Vol. 6 | By Kazuma Kamachi and Arata Yamachi| Seven Seas – I said last time we were down to the final fight, and we’re still on it by the end of this volume. Index is filled with long, drawn-out battles, but in Railgun and the main series they tend to be separated by more mundane matters. Accelerator, true to its antihero, never really lets us relax, and humorous escapades are at a minimum. It also makes it rather difficult to review. I mean… the fights were cool? I actually understood the action, which is not always the case with heavy action manga. The villain is bad and you want to see them go down? And I’m pretty sure one of our team of heroes is going to die, though I’m also pretty sure it’s the girl who’s already dead. A good spinoff that’s not as good as Railgun at its best. – Sean Gaffney
Delicious in Dungeon, Vol. 2 | By Ryoko Kui| Yen Press – I’m enjoying this second volume more than I did the first, I think. We get a bit more backstory on the characters which makes them a bit more likeable, and Marcille is no longer whining at absolutely everything. On the opposite tact, Laios gets to do some truly ridiculous things showing that he’s a lot more impulsive than we expected (and we get flashbacks showing that his sister really was a major part of their party—I wonder if she’s actually died by now?). And Senshi, while he’s still the wise sage of the group, is also shown to sometimes be wrong. But of course the main draw here is the ridiculous food, detailed in loving “this is actually a cooking manga” detail. A lot of fun. – Sean Gaffney
Girls’ Last Tour, Vol. 2 | By Tsukumizu| Ywn Press – This volume sets itself up much like the last one did, with about 2/3 devoted to Chito and Yuuri’s slice-of-life adventures among the ruins of the world, and the last third has them meeting with another living person and helping them try to achieve a dream. Both times they do this the dreamer fails, though it’s not really the girls’ fault. It does make me wonder what sort of mood the author wants to convey here. There are occasional scenes of Yuuri being an airhead or Chito a grump in that Chika and Miu sort of way, but the air of melancholy you’s expect to hover over this world is more prevalent here. Is there an endpoint the author wants to get to, or when they run out of cute situations will we just have the girls quietly die? Good but odd. – Sean Gaffney
Haikyu!!, Vol. 15 | By Haruichi Furudate | VIZ Media – Karasuno has advanced to the semifinals of the Miyagi Prefecture qualifier tournament. Will their next opponent be Aoba Johsai or Date Tech? Readers are treated to some of that match-up before Aoba Johsai emerges victorious. There are some nice moments here, particularly one in which Kageyama actually admits to Hinata that he’s scared to face Oikawa again and a brief interlude where Sugawara is brought in to shut down a high-scoring newcomer, but not quite as many as in the last volume, which fleshed out background team member Ennoshita. There’s no such thing as a bad volume of Haikyu!!, and this has plenty of excitement and a cliffhanger ending, but the final page suggests I will like next volume’s payoff even more than this volume’s setup. Looking forward to it, as ever! – Michelle Smith
Kase-san and Shortcake | By Hiromi Takashima | Seven Seas – Well, the girls have gotten together in book one, and gotten to know each other more closely in book two. Book three has a double shot of plot, with Yamada realizing that Kase-san is going to a Tokyo university on a sports sholarship, while she’s going to a local college. This… really doesn’t sit well with her, and she frets about it as best you can do when your manga is meant to be cute and fluffy. We also deal with Kase-san wanting to take things further physically, but not wanting to pressure Yamada, and being somewhat stymied by Yamada’s complete ignorance of what to actually do—at one point, she even googles how to have sex with a girl, with hilarious results. Still adorable and fluffy even when everyone is crying. – Sean Gaffney
Kiss & White Lily for My Dearest Girl, Vol. 3 | By Canno | Yen Press – We’re back to the first volume’s couple at the start of this new book, and it’s become pretty clear that their story will tie into all the others we see in this series, which is also why its not official as such. Ayake is still overdramatic and difficult to like, though you sympathize with her having to deal with the blase Yurine. As for Yurine, she’s dragooned into the gardening club, which is short on members and about to lose its garden to the sports clubs. And, as it turns out, is also being sabotaged. Luckily, Yukina is the utterly straightforward sort of ojou-sama type, and so it doesn’t end quite as badly as it possibly should. The series continues to detail how absolutely EVERY girl at school is falling for another girl, but that’s not uncommon in this genre. – Sean Gaffney
Log Horizon: The West Wind Brigade, Vol. 6 | By Koyuki and Mamare Touno | Yen Press – It is not a good sign when the best, most interesting part of the spinoff is the one that’s basically telling the events of the main series. I have no doubt that we see Raynesia because she’ll be interacting with our heroes in future volumes, but seeing her and Krusty here made me wish that we had a side series focusing on them instead. Instead, we get a predatory lesbian who seems to be in the West Wind Brigade for only that reason, though Soujiro can still calm her down. The other minor plot is the newbies training at the beach, and how Kawara may not be a dependable sempai but that her type of personality is probably just as good in the long run. I wish this was more consistent. – Sean Gaffney
Murcielago, Vol. 3 | By Yoshimurakana | Yen Press – This series continues to be super violent and super uncaring about the status of its victims—TWO loving fathers are graphically butchered, one right next to his daughter, and we don’t even stay behind to see the horror and grief. It’s all about the killing and the killers. Now, that does not mean that we can’t have fun—seeing Kuroko go to town is the purpose of this series, and it’s nice to watch her be cool and take down actual monsters. And you get the feeling that the next volume, involving Kuroko infiltrating a girls’ academy, will be funnier. But you really need to not really care what happens to anyone at all in order to get into Murcielago. It’s pure rush, but the rush is filled with sociopaths. – Sean Gaffney
One-Punch Man, Vol. 12 | By ONE and Yusuke Murata | VIZ Media – Even though hero-hunting Garo is on the cover, he barely appears. Instead, this volume mostly consists of glimpses of Saitama’s progress through the martial arts tournament intercut with various heroes fighting against a slew of monsters. Genos handles quite a few himself, including a skittering bad guy called Roach Awakening who is wonderfully icky, and it’s also fun to see a few other Class-S heroes in action, especially Watchdog Man, who I bet would get along well with Saitama when and if they actually meet. The tournament stuff is okay, and the action scenes are great, but it all seemed to zoom by so quickly without leaving much of an impact. I’m not sure what exactly I’d change about it, though. Could the answer be as simple as Saitama doing more punching? Maybe so… – Michelle Smith
Tokyo Tarareba Girls, Vol. 6 | By Akiko Higashimura | Kodansha Comics (digital only) – The last time I reviewed Tokyo Tarareba Girls, I found it to be majorly depressing. As a result, I let a few volumes accumulate and, honestly, kind of dreaded reading them. To my surprise, I didn’t find them depressing at all, despite Rinko and friends still being in the same awful relationships as before. I think the difference is that they’re beginning to see the truth, and there’s a strong suggestion that they’re going to do something about it. In this volume, for example, it’s Key to the rescue again as he helps Kaori finally (hopefully) break free of Ryo. Interestingly, though, when Rinko seems about to reunite with Mr. Hayasaka—and they’re genuinely cute together—and Key is poised to intervene again, I suddenly found his interference very unwelcome. Very eager for volume seven! – Michelle Smith
Yowamushi Pedal, Vol. 6 | By Wataru Watanabe | Yen Press – As I’ve mentioned before, this is one of those sports series that runs in a shonen magazine whose Western audience is predominately female, and the BL fandom is huge. (Pity poor Kanzaki…) I was not really expecting to see quite as much of why the BL fandom was huge till I got to this volume, the last half of which is Makishima and Toudou’s race, which may in fact be the gayest thing I’ve ever seen in a non-explicit manga. It’s incredible. The first half is also very good, involving Onoda getting into a crash which leaves him in last place, and having to pass 100 bikes in order to catch up. Which he does, because of course he does. The series is a pure exhilarating thrill ride, and I desperately want to read more. – Sean Gaffney
