MCL Alternate Life review
Now that the three 4-episodes routes have been fully released, I’m ready to spend some final words on AL in general and the three boys specifically.
Tumblr media
Plot
The plot is quite simple: AL was created to mostly address the break up, it is the canonical ending to Lysander, Kentin and Armin’s routes (while UL and LL are the canon continuation of Cas’ and Nath’s routes). The general plot is meeting your old boyfriend again, reconnect, solidify the relationship and resolve the long-distance issue. Quite simple, it’s the con of having only 4 episodes, but it does its job well, for years we asked for something that would fix the break up and we got it. Also I liked that the main structure was the same for all three boys, it provides a sense of continuity and a main theme for the season.
System
Same as the other seasons, 2AP x line of dialogue, however there is one main difference. Episodes 2 and 3 have choices which lead to different illustrations and scenes, meaning that they should be replayed twice if all illus with the crush want to be obtained. I personally quite like this system because the episodes are short and cheap, rarely over 1000 AP and this gives me a reason to play twice and extend my gaming experience. Plus replaying doesn’t bore me since the scenes are different as well so it’s almost like having two episodes in one.
The Art
I’m generally always happy about the quality of MCL’s illustrations, and I think AL keeps up with the high standard. As a con, I’d say that the poses might be a bit repetitive, hugging and kissing tend to be quite similar among the three routes, but other than that I’m happy. Backgrounds and sprites are also very good imo, but I’ll get to that soon.
Now, a closer look at the three:
Lysander
Tumblr media
My Victorian prince was perfect as a teen and remained perfect in adulthood. Personally I think he looks even more beautiful, if possible, and his personality didn’t change at all, only slightly more mature due to being an adult with adult responsibilities. If on one hand this means that we got exactly what we lost 4 years ago, it also means that he’s the crush that remained the most static, didn’t have a real evolution like all the others did. Like a fae prince who remained frozen in time. It might make his journey a bit less interesting that’s true, but on the other hand can you improve perfection? I don’t think so.
Tumblr media
In fact he’s the only crush we didn’t break up with. At first I was a bit surprised “for sure it must be Kentin the one we don’t break up with, right?” but afterward it made so much sense. His AL is one of rediscovery of someone who we never really lost, and despite me not liking farm life it makes perfect sense for him and Candy to have ended up there. His story is soothing, and calm, just like him. Finding him again is like feeling you finally found your place and your home.
Kentin
Tumblr media
Kentin grew up a lot since high school. Not only physically as he got taller and bulkier (and hotter) but also mentally. When we meet him again we find someone who has completed a personal journey, a new person who knows his worth and who they are. These years spent travelling the world alone made him grew up and now he’s able to love Candy in a healthy way because he can also love himself.
Tumblr media
His AL is one of getting to know the new mature person he’s become but also finding out that what really matters, his feelings and good heart, are always the same. Its route is full fluff with 5 minutes of drama which only serve to learn how different being with him is going to be now but also how his love didn’t change. His story is about personal growth and the work you have to put on yourself before being able to be in a relationship.
Armin
Tumblr media
Armin is still the same jokester as before, but he’s not a boy anymore, it’s clear that the break up made him grow up as well. His new looks are similar to what he used to wear before (without Alexy’s terrible involvement), I’m not a big fan of the yellow but it compensate with the haircut which imo makes so much more sense than that octopus-looking one he had before. I also love that he kept a smirking teasing expression which is so him.
Tumblr media
His route, while remains similar to the other two in its basic structure, is completely different in the sense that while he did grow up and became more mature, his story isn’t as much as getting to know him while getting to know who Candy and him are together and if they can build something solid and long-lasting. With Lys and Kentin we get a finished product, with Armin we get a work in progress, that makes his route more eventful and dynamic. We start with a fight in episode 1, get a whole journey and end with a final declaration which address all the issues and uncertainties. We see both Candy and Armin grow during the story.
Personal considerations
I think all 3 routes are really well done so preference becomes a matter of personal taste. On my side, Armin’s is above the other two for the simple fact that I enjoy the drama and the enemies-to-lovers vibe. I also love Candy in this route, and the teasing relationship the both have. I loved following their journey, for me this route is pretty much perfect and I can only hope Beemoov keeps up this amazing writing.
The other two routes are also really great. Kentin’s route is perfect for people who like fluff above all and just want to live a sweet love story. Lys’ is for people who want to play something soothing and with a more fairy tail vibe.
I’m happy we finally got a happy ending with the three of them and these endings make so much sense: with Lys we could only join him in his farm life, not my thing as I said, but I never saw Lys as someone who could enjoy the rockstar lifestyle, his choices don’t have to work for me, they have to work for him and I’m happy they do. With Kentin it wouldn’t have felt right if he gave up his lifestyle and stayed in town for us, it would’ve been a complete step back from his personal journey to see him give up everything and chase Candy once again, so I’m happy it’s Candy the one joining him this time. And with Armin, with all the times Candy was the one to follow him in his passions and hobbies (plus the whole long-distance and Disney debacle) it had to end with him staying, and I’m so glad it did.
So now that we got our happy endings, what’s left?
I guess we’ll see 😏

Hello everyone,
Here is the review for episode 17 of MCLLL. It will contain spoilers for the episode.
First, I want to say that this episode made me sad and happy at the same time. Sad because it is the last episode of My Candy love. And happy because it was a fantastic episode. And I really enjoyed making the guide for the episode. Normally with a NSFW episode, you only need to answer one choice correct to get the illustration, but this time you had also to make sure that you choose the right choices in the jungle. Let's go to the beginning of the episode. Your lover and you are staying at the hotel from AL episode 5 Kentin. I like it that this place comes back in the series. It is a beautiful place and prefect for a honeymoon. When you get into your room, you can choose between a romantic moment and a NSFW moment. Both of the moments are really nice to play. And I like it that you can choose. The outfit, is not really my taste. I do like the color and the backpack. And the camera is cute.We go into the jungle, when I played it for the first, I already suspected that we would get lost in the woods. And then you have to make the right choices to get the illustration. Make sure you survive in the best way possible. I really liked all those little choices and that the way you go through the jungle is different on each route. It was also really cool and interesting to come across all those animals. And to find a way to get past them. And of course, the fairy was hiding in the woods. I liked here dialogue part a lot. I am not so fan of the item, I am not really into tattoos. Then you sit in front of the fire with your lover. You get to choose between three choices, and each choice has a very different kind of dialogue. I found that really clever, and it makes you want to play the episode multiply times. Because you want to know what happens on each of them. I want to talk about a few of those dialogues a bit more. Eric will talk about his last relationship with one choice. It gave me more respect for Eric. To be honest, I don't think very highly of Eric. Because he wanted to become between you and your ex. But in this dialogue, he will tell you want went wrong between him and his ex. It also tells you want he found in you and missed in his last partner. It made me understand why he did it. So I have more respect for him. Nathaniel talks about the part that you two were apart in one of the choices. This part made me fill a bit guilty. You may know that Nathaniel was my main rout in MCLHSL. When UL came online, I started to fall in love with Hyun and I didn't go back to Nath. Nath will tell you in this dialogue how empty he felt when you two were apart. I didn't want Nath to hurt so much. But I didn't regret falling for Hyun because I still love him so much. Hyun will talk in one of the dialogues about a future wish to go back to dancing, and Candy talks in that one about going to the Netherlands. You maybe know that I live in the Netherlands. So the idea of Hyun coming one day here makes me happy, maybe I could meet him in real life ;-). I am also a big fan of dancing. Throughout my life, I have taken different kinds of dancing classes. I am not on really high level or anything, but it is a nice hobby. I like that Hyun and I have that same hobby. To the part of the illustrations. They are all really nice and hot. I like the one of Hyun the most. I also like that they brought my favorite lingerie back from the game. It still looks so cute blue with flowers.
So overall, I am a big fan of this episode. The only sad thing is that this is the last one. But still we do get later this year My Candy Love New Gen. I can't wait for it.
I hope you like this review.
Love, Belodie

Not much to say about this as I'm going to sound like an old record about how much I dislike the repetitive events. Is it so much to ask for originality?
The "Morning Sun" outfit is my personal favorite, especially with this color. I immediately fell in love with the gradient.
As for the illustration...yeah it's a no for me. Is this really the best idea Candy could come up with for winning the sandcastle contest? Seems kinda childish to me to be wanted to be spoiled like that...
It definitely feels out of character for my Candy to do. She's not really the type to be spoiled.
I would've preferred to see everyone's castles as the illustration over...this.
I will say that Thia for once wasn't obnoxious was hilarious. All of her comments about everyone's castles made me chuckle.
The bank outfit is interesting and I like all the festive colors. Just not something I personally see my character wearing.

MCL New Gen Ep 3 Review
I finally finished the episode! I'll give a more generic opinion about it here and put all the spoilers below the cut!
I think it was really nice, I didn't check how many APs I used but I saw someone else mention that it's around 1200 APs which I think is fair! I was scared about it at first because I'm not sure if I'm the only one who noticed that, ususally, the first episodes are either shorted/cheaper and that new episodes that come out are much more expensive... I hope that won't happen!
The outfits are pretty cute, also I noticed that if you want to, you can unlock the other outfit you missed for 150 hearts! It's just to unlock it in the shop without having to replay the episode, you still have to purchase each piece separately but I think it's alright since the prices are really cheap!!
I don't really know what else to add and still be spoiler free, so now it's time for spoilers! you've been warned!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm so so happy with how they get Candy to react everytime... I love that she changes expressions accordingly and it's much more fun!! Also I think I screenshotted(?) almost all of Jason's scenes,, I'm sorry I'm just so down bad I kept giggling everytime he said anything,, I think that's why it took me a while to finish the episode lol...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Petronilla you're so real for that... Me too... (he awakens the goblin inside me...)
Tumblr media
Honestly I really think that we should keep this in mind everytime he opens his mouth because it's actually so true... Also how are you so obsessed... Keep it going...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He wants to kiss her so bad I just know it... He's like that one kid that bullies you just because he's into you and doesn't know how to behave
Tumblr media
"Little kitten"
...
I'm so done with this guy he's so shameless and I love him for that,,
Tumblr media
The illustration is very pretty! He's so handsome why can't he just do a backflip off of Goldreamz's roof (He's so pretty sometimes it p*sses me off lmao)
I think I'll try to edit this one soon too!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think it's pretty funny that she calls him that, yeah I can see how he's a loser... (I be calling him things just cause he's pretty and annoying I swear)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She's so... I'm so gay leave me alone,,,,,
Tumblr media
ALSO ISTG she's going to be the end of me and my wallet, I can't help but always buy both her's and Jason's special scenes (I still haven't understood if you can get the illu's without buying the scenes... help,,) and on top of that of course I'll say that I'm going for Jason's route and then buy Amanda's illus because I can't live without it,, Beemoov let me be poly for once, Petronilla has two hands for a reason!! Either let us (Me and 'Nilla) have the same outfits for both Amanda and Jason so that I won't have to spend 350 extra gems or idk;;-;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The doomed yuri... The forbidden yuri... Petronilla you're so gay... Idk I think I can hear "I wanna be your girlfriend" by girl In red from miles away... We're so over ;A;
Tumblr media
If I get the time I think I'll try to edit this one as well!! So so pretty!
Tumblr media
I also wanted to mention this... Man he's just like me this guy is autistic as F**K I'm telling y'all... I relate to that so much, especially the fact that he apparently seems to be thinking in percentages as well (By that I mean that at least I tend to make my decisions based on calculations and such... That's why I like to joke about having a computer for brains lol)
Looks like Beemoov's writers did their homework on this guy cause if he's actually autistic-coded I think they did a great job! Autism is a spectrum in the end but I really resonate with how they're potraying it with Thomas! Kudos!
Tumblr media
Last but not least... Jason's text after finishing the episode... I'm shipping Jason and Petronilla so hard,,,,,, I love the blue&pink contrast, they were made for each other your honor... If we add Amanda they can be the Bisexual flag together...

New Gen, ep 1 y 2
Finally I had time for a "little" review! I'm late but better late than never. Like many, I had my expectations and I can say that, apart from 1 point that concerns me and that I will mention later. I am pleasantly surprised with the final product.
Let's start at the beginning and I want to say that I really like that they give us a full context about Ysaline's life and her family from the very first moment, it helps me to connect with her, unlike Candy who in ep 20 I think we just meet her parents. And like Ysaline, I'm ready to make the same mistakes again and even worse (Why go for 1 boss? if you can go for 2 😏)
The animations, I don't want to leave out the animations, from the changes of expression of our character in each dialogue, to the, at first weird but then not so weird, "camera close-ups", I loved them. Thomas peeking out from the side of the screen or when a route approaches us in the moments of the dates, are an extra touch that helped me to get more into the story.
Regarding the routes and characters in general I want to say that I find them nice, it is a varied group in personalities which is what interests me the most and I want to discover who have their own groups and who are besties (the scene where they all run into Devon's office is awesome). Now with the routes, from second 1 I declared myself Jason and Thomas route, which I tried to follow but to my surprise, just following my instinct I ended up on Devon and Jason's routes…. (by the way the new Cassy/Nath) The personalities of the routes are well defined and, at least in my experience with Devon and Jason I felt "chemistry" that with the others I didn't (and that's ok, I'm not looking to fall in love with everyone).
Now talking about plots, I feel they have a lot to draw from, and although I know that showing the Cosy Bear Cafe event would be very difficult due to the personalization of each player, I don't deny that I would like to see it in NG. I don't mind that some arcs may be cliche, as long as they take risks as they have been doing in MCLLL, I want to see controversial and/or sensitive topics!
And finally… my ONLY complaint, and more than a complaint is a concern, is the issue of the points and not the PA's, no, not at all, I made a very quick calculation and it's fine. But the gems is another thing, 2 per day + 7 on the last day of the month gives us between 65 and 67, if they release 1 episode every 2 months, well that's perfect, you have 130-134 gems for the episode. What's the "but" then? I'm a sl@t and I like to have special moments with more than one route… in this case 2, if it is 1 additional scene per route and each one costs 120 gems, in an episode I would have 240… so I would have to wait DOUBLE to play an episode my way, to my taste… Is it unforgivable? Not at all, it's a detail in fact, but if someone would read this, they could lower it a little… just a little, maybe to 100 and I wouldn't feel so devastated ☹️
Other than that, and to close. New Gen was a positive surprise, you can see the love that is in the game, in terms of gameplay, graphics, animations, etc, etc. 100/10 nothing to say, excellent work. I TRUST that this quality that reflects the growth of Beemoov as a company and MCL as a franchise, will be seen in the plot, in the arcs and in the development of the routes, which after all, is the most important thing for the players.
So thanks for reading ❤️ and see you early tomorrow morning at the office…

All my thoughts on the honeymoon episode (17) of mclll with Rayan.
Get 👏 yourself 👏 a 👏 fictional 👏 man 👏 who 👏 would 👏 face 👏 a 👏 tiger 👏 for 👏 you 👏 then 👏 ruin 👏 his 👏 plans 👏 and 👏 save 👏 his 👏 ass 👏 instead 👏
That's it. That's the review. Y'all welcome. I know I know very insightful, you don't need to thank me for it.
But no, while the episode was fun, chaotic, full of replayability, some cute and hot moments, I have good and bad things to talk about it and I have a lot of thoughts about certain scenes that I cannot simply move on with my life without talking about them at least once.
So let's do this, maybe my last review ever about any mcl related episode.
I will always welcome an episode that makes me remember why I fell in love for the set up, for the story and for the character (Li) in the first place and that honeymoon episode was that. It was the most fun I ever had since, buff, I don't know, I think University Life? Because I wouldn't have called Love Life a funny haha ride all the way through and I cannot remember the last time was giddy with the game like I was today.
The episode was short, very much what I was expecting... and very much gave me a misplaced vibe, it didn't feel like the last episode the big farewell that the wedding episode felt like. It actually felt like a spin-off half cooked, it very much felt like just a travel, not really a honeymoon (not that I had much of those in real life but well) and it felt goofy which y'know, mcl is known for.
And I am talking about the cave conversation.
I would say that the episode would be fun for replayability if you have NO ISSUE in spending around 4.000 aps for it, if not then you go ahead and have a good ride like I did, but I will not pretend it's very rewarding or even mandatory. It's not.
You gonna take some giggles and get ONE moment in the episode that's really worth it.
For Rayan depending in which alternative you picked you could've: learnt more about Chloé's and Rayan's relationship and how he feels about her death now that he married Candy, about Rayan's father that he never EVER talked about before or a very cute moment when he talks about how he felt when he first met Candy and how he struggled with his feelings.
I am a sucker for any piece of new information I get about him, so I had a blast with it.
It was a JOY finding out that every alternative would give me a new whole dialogue to explore and read, it felt like a bonus and it was the best thing about the episode, besides the tiger moment.
Which was wild, see Rayan telling Candy in a firm voice that "she never heard before him using" to not move and help with all yelling at the tiger to scare it off was WILD, my nerd bookworm man went alpha mode on that tiger and it was HOT. Hot damn. It was hotter than any sex scene. Yes, Daddy, protect us, you go off king, you can punch a tiger for sure, BIG DICK ENERGY IF EVER SAW ONE.
But I will tell you, make Candy actually take away the tiger's attention towards Rayan and try to attract it alone was hella cool too, Candy was BRAVE, even though when he got mad at her after she cried of stress and fear and then he comforts her and calls her his hero, IT WAS A SUCH NICE MOMENT. One of the beauties of having a lot of aps, free time and grief towards a route that is gonna be replaced in the next months.
So good.
Let's talk about what I didn't like then.
I don't like how the ilus can only be obtain if you get all the right answers but the game gives you too little of information about which answers are right and which are wrongs, it was very punishing, I don't get it.
I don't like how the ilus was locked away behind a sex scene at the end of the episode, there was no special moment of their first night as a married couple, it was no different from any other generic sex scene - I will admit, it's a pretty ilus, but at this point, feels like the same of all the ones I already got, there was no sexy lighting, no extra gloss over it no care for what it would be THE LAST ILUS OF THE GAME.
Felt lazy, there I said it. The episode being so out of place from the whole trio of Proposal Episode, Getting married Episode and then the Honeymoon Episode is ODD and off putting, it feels wrong, it feels like they didn't plan that shit properly and if that's the case it doesn't surprise me cuz I have been getting this for MONTHS now.
THEY GAVE UP. The new game is more important now. Screw us I guess.
And screw them too honestly. I hope the new game gets a better treatment from the bottom of my heart, but I doubt it strongly after so many years and GAMES of this and of this lazy shit they do, so probably it won't be any better...... I wouldn't know, cuz I am not gonna play it.
Tumblr media
Nice episode, despite it faults and everything else, I liked it.

MCLAL KENTIN REVIEW EPISODE 1
Hi anon!!! Thank you for your ask!!! 🥺
I was going to write a review, but I had to finish some stuff cause I'm moving again 😩
This past weeks have been... Difficult for me, to say at least, and this episode has let me space out completely, the main reason why I play games.
Emotionally, it has brought me back many memories. The butterflies in the stomach when you see your crush, the nervousness when you talk to them, that exhilarating need to stay close to them, to lock your eyes with them and try to figure out what they're thinking of you... 😩🥺💞
I don't get to feel that anymore, and experiencing all that AGAIN thanks to a game is something I'm truly grateful. I was very young when I started to play MCL and now that I'm all grown up and HE'S grown up too everything is wonderful.
First of all, kudos to the team that's working on his series. The plot makes sense, we've spent A LOT (just how I like it) of time with him and the writing is SO GOOD. It's well pathed and every dialogue has squeezed my heart.
Kentin has matured so much, he gives me these chill and mature vibes but he still has his gentle and protective side, one of the things I love most about him. Being constantly traveling and being independent has made him confident about himself and his actions, we don't have that insecure and nervous boy who was an embarrassed mess constantly, we have a kind, brave man with self-confidence. I fucking love him, dammit 🥺
Also it's SO DIFFICULT to choose a favorite moment when everything was so well crafted!! Maybe I would pick the moment in the alley when they were talking and this blond guy appears AND KENTIN STANDS UP AND DEFENDS US 😩😩😩😩🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺💞💞💞💞😩💖🥺😩💞💖😳💖💞💖🤭💖😩🥺🤭💖💞💖💞🥺💖😳🤸🏻🤸🏻🤸🏻🤸🏼‍♂️💋💋🔥💋🔥💋🔥💋🤸🏻💞🎉🎉💋🕺💋🎉💋😻😔🥲🤭🥵😏🥺💖🤸🏻💞💖🥺💖🥺😩💞💖🥺💖🥺 LOVE ME A MAN WHO FIGHTS FOR ME
Also the outfit was GREAT, it's something that I would totally wear, the design is much appreciated 💖
I can't wait for the next episode. Really. Beemoov give the the next episode right now 🔫
I wonder what kind of date we'll have the next episode 🥺🥺🥺 maybe he'll take us to that spot in the background? Maybe we go to a restaurant? Also I DON'T WANT HIM TO GO AGAIN TAKE ME WITH YOU KENTIN PLEASEEEE 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I'm very curious about how their relationship will develop 🥺

may we ask for a review of this episode, please? i am interested on knowing opinions of people that are not into kentin
Yeah sure no problem!
I really like Candy's monologues and her longing and her worries. It was sweet that both she and Kentin seemed attracted to each other, but were clearly nervous and unwilling to make the first move. The fact that the attraction is mutual so obvious to everyone but them. The writer who has been writing AL is just phenomenal. Like seriously, the writing in MCL is going from strength to strength.
I appreciate that they're doing a very different scenario from Lysander's AL. It wouldn't have the same impact if it was too similar to what we just got.
And the dogs! I love the dog content! They're adorable and I can't wait to see loads of them. Can't go wrong with more dogs.
I'm also really interested in what is said about Kentin's parents in future episodes. Kentin's dad was truly an awful man in hsl, but now Kentin talks of him fondly, he's Cookie's owner now, and Kentin comes to town to visit his family. I wonder if the change in their relationship will be commented on. Kentin's new confidence has already been shown in-game, I wonder if he's stood up to his father and they have a more equal relationship now, who knows. I'd like to see it touched on.
I really like the outfits we've seen btw, I really like the athleisure/casual thing they've previewed. I think the outfits are really versatile and great for mixing and matching.
The only negative is the illustration is kinda meh? The lighting is lovely and the illustration becomes better in context, but it's not special or memorable to me. It's just a fine illustration.
I liked the Vanilla Ninja reference we got, that was so unexpected! A Eurovision crossover in MCL? More likely than you think.
And finally, yeah I'm really a Kentin fan, I never really liked him, but this writing is good and this Candy is so wonderful to play as. I'm not swooning over it because, yeah it's Kentin, but it's good writing and a fun scenario. I'm not going to obsess over it like I did other iterations of MCL, but I'm still going to play and have fun.

Reviewing questions:
Succinylcholine is a depolarizing paralytic agent that is degraded by the enzyme pseudocholinesterase. Pseudocholinesterase is synthesized in the liver. Metabolites include succinyl and choline, which are then excreted in the urine. In renal failure patients, hyperkalemia is a common occurrence, and succinylcholine results in an increase in serum potassium levels in normal subjects by 0.5 to 2 mEq/L. Given this fact, succinylcholine should not be used in a pt with elevated potassium level, as it puts her at high risk for arrhythmias.
Other adverse effects of succinylcholine toxicity include malignant hyperthermia, muscle pains, acute rhabdomyolysis with hyperkalemia, transient ocular hypertension, constipation, and changes in cardiac rhythm, including bradycardia and cardiac arrest. In patients with neuromuscular disease or burns, a single injection of succinylcholine can lead to massive release of potassium from skeletal muscles, potentially resulting in cardiac arrest. Conditions having susceptibility to succinylcholine-induced hyperkalemia are burns, closed-head injury, acidosis, Guillain–Barré syndrome, cerebral stroke, drowning, severe intra-abdominal sepsis, massive trauma, myopathy, and tetanus. In addition, the additive/synergistic effects of succinylcholine and an opioid, sedative, or anesthetic agent can lead to succinylcholine toxicity. In rare cases, acute rhabdomyolysis with hyperkalemia followed by ventricular dysrhythmias, cardiac arrest, and death have been reported in apparently healthy children and adolescents.
Bottom Line: In renal failure patients, hyperkalemia is a common occurence, and succinylcholine results in an increase in serum potassium levels in normal subjects by 0.5 to 2 mEq/L. Given this fact, succinylcholine should not be used in patients with preexisting hyperkalemia.
AIDS = CD4 count less than 200/mcL. There is a long list of AIDS-defining conditions that would qualify as AIDS even with a CD4 count above 200/mcL, but this list is beyond the scope of COMLEX Level 3, aside from a few commonly tested conditions.
The most current guidelines recommend against administering prophylactic therapy for Mycobacterium avium complex if antiretroviral therapy has been initiated. One should start prophylactic therapy with trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole to protect against Pneumocystis pneumonia and toxoplasmosis in a pt with CD4 count of 45.
According to the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology guidelines, there are 2 options after ASCUS results: a repeat Pap smear in 1 year or human papillomavirus (HPV) testing. In the 25- to 29-year-old age group, the preferred option is HPV testing. If the HPV test is positive, then the patient should undergo colposcopy. If the HPV is negative, then the patient should have repeat cotesting with cervical cytology and HPV testing in 3 years. If the option was chosen to repeat the Pap in 1 year and the repeat Pap is normal, then the patient can resume normal testing. If the repeat Pap is abnormal (ASCUS or any other worse pathology), then the patient should undergo colposcopy.
If the patient was in the 21- to 24-year-old age group, then the guidelines give the same 2 options of repeat testing in 1 year or HPV testing. However, in this age group, the repeat testing in 1 year is the preferred method.
After age 30, routine screening involves cotesting (Pap and HPV test every 5 years) or Pap alone every 3 years. The same guidelines apply as for the 25- to 29-year-old age group for ASCUS pathology.
Bottom Line: A cytology report of atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance should be followed up with a human papillomavirus screen or repeat Pap smear in 1 year. If the screen is positive or the cytology at 1 year is abnormal, the patient should get a colposcopy.
High-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL) is considered a premalignant lesion. Management per the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (ASCCP) is an immediate loop electrosurgical excisional procedure (LEEP) or a colposcopy. If a colposcopy is chosen, further treatment depends on the grade of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. For grade 1 dysplasia found on the colposcopy, the options are to co-test at 12 and 24 months or perform a LEEP. If either of the co-tests shows the HSIL again, then the LEEP should be performed. If the initial colposcopy shows grade 2 or 3 dysplasia, then excision or ablation of the transformation zone is recommended.
Bottom Line: HSIL is considered a premalignant lesion, and thus an excisional procedure is indicated. The provider may go directly to a LEEP procedure or may first perform a colposcopy.
In order to respond to various pathogens, the CDC has grouped many different agents that could be used as biological terrorism into categories. This allows early detection and therefore appropriate response if there is concern for biological terrorism. The grouping of pathogens primarily depends on their capacity to cause harm and ease of dissemination. The organisms/toxins of concern are categorized as:
Category A - organisms that can be grown easily in large quantities, easily disseminated, and have a high mortality rate. Category B - agents that are modestly easy to spread, cause less morbidity and mortality than Category A, but often require special diagnostic or surveillance techniques. Category C - agents that could be engineered for mass dissemination and cause significant potential morbidity and/or mortality.
Category A Agents include Variola major (smallpox), Bacillus anthracis (anthrax), Yersinia pestis (plague), Clostridium botulinum toxin (botulism), Francisella tularensis (tularemia), Filoviruses (Ebola, Marburg), and Arenaviruses (Lassa, Junin, and related viruses).

Kind E-3000 Review: A Data-Driven Analysis
Tumblr media
The Kind E-3000 is a whole-house water filter and conditioner that combines three cartridges to remove contaminants and prevent scale formation. We tested the system on municipal water in the mountains of Colorado, to find out how it affected our water quality and flow rate, and how it compared to other systems in terms of design quality, value for money, and more.  Overall Score: 8.51 How We Test & Score 8.23 Contaminant Reduction 8.40 Design 9.50 Maintenance 10.00 Filtration Rate 7.50 Setup 8.80 Company What We Like Effectively reduced contaminants in our testing Also greatly reduced scale formation Uses certified components & has a lifetime warranty More affordable than similar systems Low-maintenance What We Don’t Like Not performance certified Some contaminant concentrations increased post-filtration Only one size available (although this should be fine for most folks) Fairly complex POE install Price$1,998.00Contaminants Reduced160+CertificationsNoneProcessMechanical + Catalytic CarbonFilter Capacity80,000 gallonsAnnual Cost~$120 – $300WarrantyLimited Lifetime 📊 Scoring Data We personally tested the Kind E-3000 ourselves, measuring its performance across 6 different performance categories. We combined and averaged this data into an overall score for the system. You can see the key scoring data we used when reviewing the E-3000 in the next table. So our first port of call was to test our water quality before and after filtering it through the system, so we could analyze how it performed with our own water.  We also wanted to know whether or not the Kind E-3000 had an official performance certification for its contaminant reduction abilities - this was the other key data that affected its score in this category. Our Performance Testing Score: 8.48 Before installing the Kind E-3000, we tested our water to find out exactly what contaminants were present.   We used a service called Tap Score for all our testing in this project.  Our initial results were unexpected, which led us to repeat the test again. We’ve discussed this in more detail later, but you can also see our two sets of results in the table below.  Health-Related Contaminants Score: 8.40 Our top priority was to remove the 12 contaminants with health effects that were detected in our water, including fluoride, disinfection byproducts, and lead.  Long-term exposure to these contaminants has been linked to health effects including liver and kidney issues, developmental problems, blood effects, and gastrointestinal issues.  We analyzed our test data using the lab’s Health Guideline Level benchmark, which prioritizes human health and is much more strict than the federal MCL standard. Chloroform, total THMs, and lead were all detected above the Tap Score HGL, so we were particularly keen to reduce these contaminants with the E-3000.  As we mentioned, we tested our water twice, for reasons we’ll explain shortly. Below, we’ve discussed our results for each test individually.  Our Test 1 Results In test 1, our post-filtration results showed that the Kind E-3000 reduced chloroform by 93.5%, but it only reduced lead by 58%. This outcome was surprising to us because the filter uses solid catalytic carbon block media, which should be able to remove 100% chloroform and do a much better job at reducing lead.  However, there was always a chance that lead was leaching from our plumbing downstream of the filter, making it appear to reduce less lead than it actually did.  But we decided to re-test our water after replacing the filters, and that’s when we realized that we’d made a mistake during installation. Before we talk about what we found, let’s discuss which other contaminants were addressed by the filter in test 1. Fluoride levels decreased by 40%, barium dropped by 73%, strontium was eliminated entirely, and nickel and zinc were reduced by 6% and 9%. Sulfate increased by 4%, and chloride by 9%, suggesting potential fluctuations in the water coming from the distribution system.  But we got some strange outcomes, too: 0.134 PPM of aluminum appeared in our filtered water, and copper levels increased by more than 100%.  Needless to say, we wanted to repeat the test to see if we obtained these unusual results the second time around.  Our Test 2 Results When we went to replace the filters, we found that we’d installed them back-to-front. So, the sediment filter, which is intended to trap large particles first, was actually last in the sequence. We wondered whether this could have caused sediment in our water supply to damage the carbon filter cartridge, affecting its performance.  So we installed a new set of filters, the right way around this time, and tested our water again.  This time, chloroform and lead were both reduced by 100%, to below detectable levels.  We can’t be certain whether the incorrect filter configuration was to blame, one of our initial filters was faulty, or perhaps the contaminants in our source water had fluctuated.  Regardless, our tip is to triple-check your filter configuration if you’re using a multi-stage system with similar-sized cartridges. The mistake was easy for us to make, even when we thought we’d followed the instructions carefully. We test water filters all the time, but we’re still only human, and we do make mistakes occasionally.  As for the other contaminants, fluoride levels only decreased by 20% this time. Nickel and zinc weren’t detected in our second test, but barium, which was reduced by 73% in test 1, was only reduced by 20% the second time.  Sulfate increased slightly more, by 7%, but this time, chloride was reduced by 7% instead of increasing by this amount. 0.1 PPM of nitrates appeared, but aluminum wasn’t detected at all. Manganese, which wasn’t reduced in test 1, became undetectable in the second. Strontium actually increased by 18%, And copper, which had spiked dramatically in the first test, was significantly decreased by 97% in the second.  So our test 2 results were still a bit random, but better on the whole.  Aesthetic Contaminants Score: 9.90 We used the Hach chlorine test strip, included in our Tap Score test, to get a reading of the chlorine levels in our unfiltered water.  Around 1 PPM of chlorine was detected, which makes sense given that we’re on a municipal water supply, which gets disinfected at the treatment plant.  We tested our filtered water using another test strip, and this time, no chlorine was detected. The E-3000’s catalytic carbon block media had obviously done its job in eliminating chlorine and its associated tastes and odors.  Minerals & Scale Reduction What makes the Kind E-3000 unique is that it combines two filtration cartridges with a water conditioning cartridge, so it’s also capable of reducing hard water scale formation.  The third-stage eSoft Salt-Free Softening Cartridge uses a process known as template-assisted crystallization (TAC), which crystallizes hardness minerals and stops them from adhering to surfaces as scale deposits.  The advantage of conditioning units like the E-3000 is that they help tackle the effects of hard water without the expense, maintenance, and salt usage of a conventional ion exchange water softener.  But the E-3000 doesn’t actually soften water, so we wanted to test how effectively it reduced scale compared to a water softener.  Before installing the system, we used a commercial descaler to clean the surfaces that come into contact with water, including our showerhead, faucets, and sinks. We then installed the E-3000 and monitored these surfaces every day.  What was clear from the get-go is that the E-3000 is no water softener. We’ve tested conventional softeners that prevent scale formation entirely, which makes sense, given that they actually remove hardness minerals. With the E-3000, limescale still formed on our surfaces. That said, it was much easier to clean away with a quick wipe, and didn’t have the tough, abrasive feel of limescale with no water conditioning. Interestingly, although the E-3000 isn’t intended for hardness reduction, our initial test results showed that hardness did decrease by 10%, followed by a 20% increase in the second test. Calcium and magnesium levels decreased by 14% and 40% in test 1, but these increased by 44% and 55% in the second.  These mineral fluctuations are another random outcome of our testing that we can’t offer a certain explanation for - but we think it’s most likely due to the design of the eSoft cartridge. This media collects hardness minerals, where they remain until they form micro-crystals and grow to a bigger size, at which point they’re released back into the water.  Performance Certifications Score: 6.00 Performance certifications are a useful metric for us because they allow us to evaluate a water filter’s performance beyond our own limited testing.  We could only test the Kind E-3000’s ability to remove the contaminants in our own water, so we’d value an official NSF, WQA, or IAPMO certification for the reduction of additional contaminants.  However, the E-3000 currently isn’t certified, so it got the poorer score in this category.  Kind doesn’t even provide a third-party testing performance data sheet for the E-3000. Instead, it shares a list of “chemicals addressed by carbon”, and another of “organics addressed by carbon”, which doesn’t tell us whether or not the E-3000’s carbon filter has been tested specifically to reduce these contaminants.  We still wanted to compare the contaminants reduced in our own water with those that Kind mentions in these lists.  We found that the filtration system did do a good job of reducing chloroform and lead, which were both included on the manufacturer’s “contaminants addressed” lists.  The fact that the E-3000 also reduced fluoride, barium, nickel, zinc, manganese (in test 2), and copper (in test 2) was a bonus because these aren’t contaminants that Kind claims to address. 🚦Filtration Rate Score: 10.00 The Kind E-3000 is a point-of-entry (POE) water filtration system, and we measured its flow rate in gallons per minute (GPM).  A fast flow rate is particularly important in a POE system because any interruptions in flow or water pressure could affect the operation of the fixtures and appliances around your home.  The Kind E-3000 did great in this category because it has a high maximum flow rate of 15 GPM - higher than many of the other whole-house systems we tested. It’s suitable for homes with up to 6 bathrooms, and we appreciated that we didn’t have to pay to upgrade to a configuration with a higher flow rate - the E-3000 is sold in one size only.  After we’d installed the system, we noticed no difference in the flow of water from our faucets and showers, and our water pressure was unchanged.  📐 Design Score: 8.40 Design is another vitally important element of a whole-house water filtration system.  If the system breaks due to a design flaw or poor-quality components, there’s a risk of a major leak, so a high-quality design is a non-negotiable for us in our testing.  The Kind E-3000 is a cartridge-based system, and it has three separate filter cartridges: a sediment filter, a carbon filter, and the E-Soft cartridge - connected to a metal mount.  It’s smaller and shorter than a tank-based unit, with a height of 29 inches, a width of 23.25 inches, and a depth of 8 inches. This makes it a good choice for installing in homes with limited available space.  Component Quality Score: 10.00 We were very pleased with the Kind E-3000’s component quality overall.  The filter housings are made from plastic, but the mounting hardware is made from stainless steel, and has a durable, sturdy feel. We reached out to Kind’s customer service team to see exactly what materials are used in the E-3000’s design, and here’s what they said:  “The system is made from a heavy-duty polymer composite and is backed by a limited lifetime warranty.” We did some research and found that polymer composites are polymer materials with a reinforcement, and they’re known for their durability - they’re typically used in automotive and aerospace applications.  Polymers are versatile materials that are easily molded. Not all polymers are plastics (plastics are simply a kind of semi-synthetic polymer) but the look and feel of the Kind E 3-000 filter cartridges makes us pretty certain that they are.  We were initially a little apprehensive about how the E-3000 would match up quality-wise to tank-based systems, which are usually made from tougher materials, like polypropylene. But we saw no signs of wear, such as cracks or breaks, throughout our test period, and all the most important parts (like the connections) feel solid and quality.  Of course, because this system does use plastics in its design, it may not be the best solution for folks who are concerned about microplastics leaching and want to limit their water’s contact with plastic as much as possible.  Certification Score: 6.00 Design certifications offer a great way for manufacturers to reassure customers about their filter quality and durability.  We love to see materials safety certifications because we know that our own experience with a product doesn’t always tell the whole story. When a filter is certified, we know that the filter design quality has been approved by a trusted testing organization.  Unfortunately, the Kind E-3000 doesn’t have any certifications for its design, so it got the poorer score here.  Filter Materials & Media As we mentioned, the E-3000 combines three separate filter stages, and different media are used in each stage.  The main stage is the solid catalytic carbon block filter, which uses a process known as adsorption to pull contaminants out of the water. Catalytic carbon is a special, modified version of activated carbon that has additional contaminant-reduction abilities - it’s much more effective at adsorbing chloramine, for example. Carbon media is typically made from natural materials, like coconut shell and charcoal.   The sediment filter is a 5-micron pleated filter and can be washed and reused several times before it needs to be replaced.  The eSoft cartridge uses tiny polymer beads called “carbonate crystal structures”.  All filters are housed in plastic housing.  ⚙️ Setup Score: 7.50 Our setup score for the Kind E-3000 was based on the complexity of the install process, and how long the system took us to install.  It didn’t get the top score here simply because it’s a POE system, and filters in this category require the most complicated install. A lot more plumbing knowledge and skill is required in installing a whole-home system compared to a point-of-use system, and there’s a greater risk of things going wrong.  But the E-3000 was, at least, one of the easiest whole-house filters to install.  We some handy skills and DIY knowledge for the install, but it took us only about 45 minutes, which included shutting off the water and draining our plumbing system, cutting into our existing main water pipe, and installing the unit, which we mounted to our wall.  The unit only requires 2 connections, which meant it was very difficult to get the process wrong (although we still managed to get the filter cartridges the wrong way around, as we mentioned earlier!). It can be installed at any type of pipe, including PVC, CPVC, copper, and PEX pipes.  We decided to install the unit ourselves, which definitely says something about the ease of the process. Many other whole-house systems are too complex for us to DIY-install, and we had to spend extra on a plumber - but not with the E-3000.  The filters didn’t need to be primed, which also saved us a lot of time and hassle. We just had to flush them by opening a cold water faucet and leaving it to run for 10 minutes, sending water through the system.  🔧 Maintenance Score: 9.50 We also had a good experience with the Kind E-3000 when it came to maintenance ease, frequency, and costs.  Servicing Requirements 9.00 There were a few features of the system that made maintenance particularly easy and affordable: - We could flush and reuse the sediment filter multiple times before replacing it (every 12 months or so).  - The eSoft cartridge never needs to be replaced, as it lasts the system’s entire lifespan.  That meant our primary maintenance task was replacing the catalytic carbon cartridge and sediment filter, which last up to 1 year on average.   So, the system is more maintenance-heavy than a POE tank-based system, which is easier to maintain because it backwashes the filter media, extending its lifespan for years.  But we still found the process of replacing the filters very easy, using the included spanner wrench to unscrew the filter housing and replace the filter cartridge inside.  There’s no filter countdown timer, so we had to make our own calendar reminders for when to replace the filters. Or, we could sign up to the manufacturer’s AutoShip program, so our filters got delivered once a year on schedule. Costs Score: 10.00 The Kind E-3000 has one of the lowest ongoing costs of all the whole-house water filtration systems we’ve tested - which is especially impressive given that it combines contaminant reduction with water filtration.  We calculated that it has a maintenance cost of $0.0018 per gallon, based on the carbon and sediment filters’ 80,000-gallon capacity.   Of course, this is assuming that the filters actually last this long - depending on your water quality and daily water usage, you might need to replace them more frequently.  🏢 Company Score: 8.80 Finally, we wanted to know how Kind’s company offerings compared to similar companies selling POE water treatment systems.  We evaluated the manufacturer’s warranty, shipping, and returns policies, and we were generally pleased with Kind as a company overall. Warranty  Score: 10.00 Kind’s products are sold with a limited lifetime warranty, which is pretty much as good as it gets for a whole-house water filter company.  There are a few terms - the system must be maintained in normal working condition, and the warranty doesn’t cover damage due to improper use, installation mistakes, freezing, and natural disasters.  One thing we appreciate about Kind’s product warranty is that it doesn’t get voided if you DIY-install your filter. Many other manufacturers say that their products can be DIY installed, but require installation by a licensed plumber to maintain the warranty. Kind gets extra brownie points from us for not requiring this.  Shipping  Score: 9.00 Kind’s shipping policy is great, too: all orders of new, whole house water systems priced over $99.00 are entitled to free shipping within the Continental United States.  However, Kind doesn’t currently ship to Hawaii or Alaska at this time, and customers in Canada may have to pay a shipping fee. View Kind’s shipping policy here.  Returns Score: 7.00 Kind offers a 120-day money-back satisfaction guarantee for its products, which sounds great on the surface.  But there are a few stipulations to be aware of: customers have to pay the returns shipping fee, and they need to secure authorization before returning the product.  Found this review helpful? The 2023 'Year in Review' trends hit differently when you lived two distinct lives this year.
I usually avoid Instagram trends-- not because I have anything against them, but because I'm usually too lazy to pull together something worth putting online in a timely manner. But this year, I decided that it would be worth doing. So I took some time to go through all of my photos for 2023, and wow.
It started off innocent enough-- pictures of Lilly being ostensibly cute, and nature pictures that, at best, would give you a vague impression of what season it is in New England. But not too far into scrolling I came across photos of Chris and me at Frozen Fenway with Sam and Peter, and I was shook.
I SWEAR we went to Frozen Fenway with Sam and Peter like, a couple of years ago. NOT within this calendar year!!! It has taken me some time to reconcile the fact that yes, January 2023 feels like it was eons ago, and no, my grasp on time is... tenuous at best. And that's because 2023 has to be divided into two distinct eras-- before injury and after injury.
Before my injury, I skiied twice, visited Amherst, visited Montreal, got my wisdom teeth removed, saw a superbloom at Joshua Tree, saw a comedy show and a live podcast show, planned and executed a bachelorette party and bridal shower, visited my brother down in Florida, attended two weddings (and was a MOH at one), and had one of my artworks displayed at a local gallery in Cambridge.
Whew!
From January to July, I had a busy, exciting year, and August through December promised more of the same, with another wedding, an October visit from Shane, and another two trips booked.
Then, on August 3rd, I tore my MCL and fractured my tibia, and the entire trajectory of my life shifted. I stopped working and went on long-term disability, got surgery, and spent the remainder of the year focused on one singular goal-- recovery.
My injury was devastating. I won't sugar coat it. I said goodbye to my mobility and independence, only to fight tooth and nail to get them back. I experienced more physical pain than I ever have, and I also knocked on death's door for the first time in my life. It was a dark time, and it took a lot out of me, and I'm still on the road to recovery.
But despite this disruption, life went on, and the second half of 2023 was filled with lots of rehab walks, local adventures, time with friends, and plenty of time focusing on my extensive personal projects. All things considered, handling this injury was not the most difficult thing I've ever done (looking at you, grad school).
Heading into 2024, I feel like a phoenix rising from the ashes. In all of the photos before my injury, I see myself, but I no longer recognize myself in her. I am someone new, someone different, someone who's evolved from the destruction of my old life.
2023 had hands, but I'm a tough bitch, and she didn't break me. This year was one of major change and major growth. I learned a lot of lessons, and I'm gonna share them here.
Do your best to stay present. Fixating on the future is sure to give you anxiety, make you frustrated about where you are now, and bring a sense of dissatisfaction to your life. Stagnating in the past is sure to depress you, and make you yearn for how things used to be. But in the present, there are no problems, only situations to handle, or experiences to have. Staying in the present got me through the early days of my injury, when my mobility was completely gone. Thanks, Eckhart Tolle :)
Live every moment to its fullest. You never know when life is going to throw you a curveball (or a broken leg). Soak deeply in the good experiences, be patient with the difficult ones, and enjoy the transit time between experiences. It's all life, and you only have one of them. Live it!
Motion is lotion. It takes an alarmingly short period of time to lose your strength and range of motion, and an exhaustingly long period of time and concerted effort to get it back. Find a way to incorporate movement in your life every day. It's worth it.
Your perspective makes your reality. One of the most important things you can do to make your life better is maintain a positive perspective. Your perspective makes your reality. If you're always looking for problems, there will be plenty to find. If you see the worst in people, they'll show you their claws. But if you stay positive, look on the bright side, and stay relentlessly optimistic, life WILL be easier.
Trust your gut. You've made your decisions for a reason. Don't let others convince you out of doing what's best for you. ESPECIALLY when it comes to your health.
Never underestimate the power of a good walkie. Not only is it so good for your body, but it's so good for your brain, too. I don't need to explain this one. Go for a walk!!!
Anyways. Thanks for the memories 2023, but I'm ready to move on. Let's see what 2024 has in store!

Hiiii I really loved reading your takes after races this year and so I was hoping you’d Grace us with a maybe a little end of season review on how the season has gone in your opinion? No pressure I just love hearing your thoughts, hope this is okay!
hey aw this is totally okay! def didn’t think anyone cared about these thoughts of mine haha.
problem is i have the worst memory and literally do not remember what i had for dinner yesterday so i don’t feel like i’m actually that great at doing a season review. if you’re truly interested i’ll re-watch all the race highlights to refresh my memory.
but all in all i loved the season, i am (amongst other drivers) a Max fan so while i would prefer maybe a bit closer racing for wins i don’t mind watching him break world records like i love watching him win. but i also thoroughly enjoyed Singapore for example even though everyone and their mother apparently didn’t like that Carlos won. not me, i was cheering him on all the way.
i was sad for Nyck but obviously happy my favorite driver is back on the grid and deffo excited to see what’ll happen next year, especially with how many contracts are up 👀
still very confused on how AM fell away so much while MCL was able to gain everything.
stellar rookie season for Oscar 🤩 even if it pains me to see Zac Brown happy i am so glad Oscar’s doing well and Lando’s in a good car.
surprised the Alpine’s didn’t crash more and how the continuously seemed to fuck over Gasly when they literally bought him out of his AT contract and into their team but oh well. deffo looking at them next season too.

What to Look for in Your Drinking Water Analysis Report
Tumblr media
Do you know what’s in your drinking water? Knowing the quality of the water from our tap is important for ensuring we’re staying hydrated with clean and healthy H2O. But when it comes to reviewing a drinking water analysis report, all of those acronyms and scientific terms can be pretty confusing. Understanding how to interpret reports from these tests can help ensure that you always have access to safe and clean drinking water. In this blog post, I’ll explain exactly. what needs to be checked for and make sense of lab results.
Understanding the Basics of Water Analysis Reports — What Information Do They Contain and What Are You Looking For
A drinking water analysis report contains a summary of the results from tests performed to detect contaminants and other substances in the water. Typically, you’ll find information about the following:
Physical parameters — This includes pH, temperature, color, turbidity (clarity), hardness, and odor. These characteristics provide an indication of the overall quality and condition of your tap water.
Biological parameters — These tests look for microorganisms, such as bacteria, viruses, protozoa (such as Giardia and Cryptosporidium), and algae.
Chemical parameters — This includes tests to detect metals, nutrients, disinfectants (such as chlorine), and other substances.
Identifying Potentially Harmful Substances in Your Report and Knowing What to Do
Once you have all of the information from your water analysis report, it’s important to know what you should be looking for in terms of potentially harmful substances. The presence of contaminants or other substances can pose a health risk, and it’s important to understand how the results in your report might impact your drinking water quality.
Fortunately, the EPA has established standards for drinking water quality and safety. These standards are known as Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs), which are the highest level of contaminant that is allowed in public water systems. When interpreting your results, you’ll be looking to compare the levels of contaminants found in your tap water to these MCLs. If any of the levels exceed the MCLs, then you should take steps to address and remedy the issue.
For some contaminants, such as lead, there is no safe level. In these cases, it’s important to take immediate action if your results show any trace amount of the contaminant present in your drinking water. Contact your local water authority or a qualified water treatment laboratory professional for assistance.
Common Parameters Analyzed in Drinking Water Reports — pH, Turbidity, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Coliform Bacteria, Nitrates/Nitrites, Chlorine, etc
One of the most important parameters to look at when looking at a drinking water analysis report is pH. This measures the degree of acidity or alkalinity in the water and should be between 6.5 and 8.5 on the pH scale, with 7 being neutral (neither acidic nor alkaline).
Turbidity is an important parameter that measures the clarity of water. High levels of turbidity can indicate the presence of particulate matter or other suspended solids in water and should be as low as possible.
Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) measure the number of dissolved solids, such as salts, minerals, and organic material in water. The EPA has established a secondary standard for TDS at 500 mg/L, which is the maximum amount of dissolved solids allowed in public drinking water.
Coliform bacteria should also be checked for in a drinking water analysis report. This type of bacteria is found naturally in the environment and can indicate issues with your tap water such as breaches in the water supply system.
Nitrates and nitrites are also commonly tested for in a drinking water analysis report. These substances can be present due to agricultural runoff or other sources and should be below 10 mg/L, which is the EPA’s secondary standard for these contaminants.
Finally, chlorine levels should also be checked in a drinking water analysis report. Chlorine is often added to water as a disinfectant, but levels that are too high can cause issues with taste and odor as well as health concerns. The EPA’s MCL for chlorine is 4.0 mg/L.
Recommended Steps for Improving Your Water Quality and Health Outcomes
If your drinking water analysis report reveals the presence of potentially harmful substances, there are several steps you can take to improve the quality and safety of your drinking water.
The first step is to contact local health authorities and/or a qualified water treatment professional with experience dealing with contaminated or otherwise compromised drinking water systems.
