HELLO SPONTANEOUS PART 2 TO MANLY STEVE (inspired by the fact my dad is working on one of his classic cars rn)
One day once Steve and Eddie are dating, Steve buys himself a real junker of a car, from the 50s, barely working, missing wheels, broken down, and they keep it parked behind the Munson's new trailer.
And Steve is determined to fix it up. Rebuild the body, fix the engine, redo the interior. Really get his hands on it, fix it, make it his.
His father liked cars, but only if they were new, expensive, and he didn't have to touch the engine. He'd brag about horsepower, and top speed, but fixing it and changing the oil was blue collar work and "below him". Steve likes getting hands on, physical work, finding a problem and working around it.
So he spends hours tinkering with it, finding new parts, and Eddie and Wayne join him. Eddie taking all the knowledge his father gave him of hotwiring and stripping cars for parts and using it productively. Making it a happy memory. So of course Wayne is there. Getting as involved as he can when Eddie keeps reminding him to take it easy, dont get hurt, they can share the work. (Wayne's car knowledge is a big help)
I just!!!!! Them forming this new loving family unit and working to create something together
Momo I’m so sorry I’m so late getting back to you!!
I LOVE your ideas, as always.
What about Steve, Eddie and Wayne going off in Eddie’s van to scope out scrap yards/used parts. They make a day off it every month or second month, touring round their usual spots. Eddie elbow deep in a pile of parts when he he hears Wayne’s slow and steady drawl that cuts through the noise of the yard
‘Boys, think I found somethin’
Eddie sidles up, looking over Wayne’s shoulder when Steve approaches from the opposite side. Wayne just raises an eyebrows and points with his cigarette to an old piece of kit that’s seen better days but by Steve’s reaction you’d think he’d just been handed seventeen babies, a station wagon and a family home to house them all.
It’s the piece Steve had been looking for for god knows how long. Only thing is, it’s more expensive than it has any right to be. They only find this out after Steve takes it up to the owner to ask thr price. His face falls, dreams of finishing their project car dashed. He tries not to let it show, just gives a tight lipped smile and walks away, hands in pockets.
Both Eddie and Wayne catch each others eyes, theirs heads come together, seeing if there’s a solution. They know they can’t afford it themselves, no chance, they are just managing bills and food as it is, disposable income a rarity. Eddie has an idea though, he asks Steve to let him and wayne contribute towards the cost, knowing that between the three of them and some sweet talking to the yard owner into a payment plan (Wayne has some long running connections that he’s not shy of exploiting when it comes to his boys). It’s not easy, Steve outright refuses at first, saying that he could never take that from Eddie and Wayne, that they don’t need to pander to him. There’s sle loud ones, some angry ones too.
But it’s Wayne’s stern eye and explanation that ‘Steve, son, we’ve put some hours into this thing too. Don’t you think we want to see it done?’
They all know wayne is just giving Steve an out but they don’t mention it, don’t even vaguely acknowledge it. When Steve is sitting in the back of Eddie’s van, bright smile on his face as he cradled the hunk of metal in his arms he’s so grateful he thinks his heart might burst. He doesn’t catch it, too busy staring at the cold object in his lap but Eddie and Wayne share a look, one of pride. They can’t give much, not like what Steve is used to, but what they can give means so much more and that’s evident on Steve’s face.

hello its nyx (on another account since my phones charging) and i have come to share more dr nyx lore points and some improvements ive made for them :3 (its been a year)
- nyx didnt join the kirasagi foundation, however they have helped in lots of kisaragi foundations missions. so they basically became the ‘replacement for members’ of the kirasagi foundation. so technically they joined kirasagi foundation without direct approval.
- nyx lives with adult mech arm nagito in post-sdra2 time period.
- both dra and sdra2 games keeps nyx’s gender a secret, so they got a bathroom in their dorm so they dont have to go to the girls / boys bathroom.
- nyx was in the future foundation’s care in post-udg and pregame dra. nyx finds kyoko to be pretty, and finds makoto to be ugly.
- nyx bought momo (their mini pomeranian dog) in pregame sdra2.
- its established that if nyx enters any of the girls or boys bathroom, they get punished by running around the school for 5 times. its specially for nyx because nyx pissed off monokuma and monocrow.
- nyx used to have long hair that reaches around the waist in udg, they got their hair cut so its around shoulder-neck length.
- if nyx sees mitch, they basically just walk away even if they have to be in that room. someone has to drag nyx back in the room.
- nyx finds rei to be ‘pretty and smart, but also the meanest mean’. and also, nyx finds tsurugi to be ‘ugly, has too strong morals, and is scary’.
- nyx was in sdra2 because the kirasagi foundation wanted them to be there. nyx just came in too early.
- nyx tried to shave mikados hair off to eat them.
- nyx is friends with haruhiko and satsuki, having a little crush on them both.
- nyx in sdra2 wants to apply for psychology major in university, but cant because they have to be with the kirasagi foundation. theyre only willing to help because teruyas there.
- nyx has a lot of knifes and guns in their closet because their father likes collecting knifes and guns.
- nyx admires kiyoka and wishes they could be as pretty and friendly as her. but they also claim that they dont wanna be ‘too pretty’.
- nyx likes to switch up on how they act around people as boredom. i guess its like junko, but its not constant. its like.. 1 week per new act. their true self is just an apathetic, yet emotional person whose insecure of their own true self.
- nyx doesnt like tight clothing, clothing thats uncomfortale around the armpit, and clothing thats considered to them ‘too close to the neck’.
Nyx and Nagito is a duo I didn’t think about but it sounds like a cool dynamic!
Nyx finding Makoto ugly lmaoo (I don’t think he’s ugly, but his hair confuses me)
Momo 🥺 Minako and Midori definitely took care of the pooch during the events in Sdra2
Running around the entire school 5 times for walking into the gendered bathroom? They fr getting the Yuki treatment goddamn
Nyx with shorter hair def suits them better :)
Mitch would be offended for a while, but eventually just accept it. This definitely helps humble him lol
Nyx summarized how half the fandom sees Tsurugi and Rei in Dra. Calling Tsurugi ugly tho is hilarious
They were put in another killing game for being at the wrong place at the wrong time? Damn…
Nikei and Teruya held him down while they did it
That’s adorable! (And based ngl) I can’t help but imagine them as part of the sunshine quartet (quintet now)
I’m actually taking AP Psychology, and it’s really cool! (Lots of memorizing and writing tho) Teruya, and surprisingly Rei, would hound Tsurugi to give them time off for them to study and do what they like.
“Name something a burglar would not want to see when he breaks into a house.”
Nyx is already beautiful and friendly, and Kiyoka wouldn’t hesitate to tell them so
Changing personalities each week is a mood, and Teruya would def just vibe with it
As for tight clothing, I honestly feel the same way tbh
Thank you for sharing, and hope you have a great day or night! 😄

Hey fools I like MHA so have some Denki headcanons cuz I kinda kin him and hes awesome.
Note that I, as a person with a very weird attention span, cannot sit and focus well on reading the manga or sit through the anime. So maybe some of this stuff is directly disproved but leik, I'm having fun so you can't hurt me
-Denki has ADHD
-You can't tell me he doesn't just look at him. He stims with Ojiros tail. He just like me, an ADHD haver, fr fr.
-Denki also has dyslexia. Don't ask me why it just makes sense in my head
-He struggles with feeling used, yet he also only feels worthy when being used(the entire charger thing semi bugs me idk he even brings it up if I remember correctly)
-He has electrocution/lightning strike scars all along his body, some fainter then others but they're still there
-He probably has depression, even if its mild. Everyone in that class probably has some form of depression
-He has stunted brain development/some minor trauma to his brain due to his quirk frying his brain. I HC he used to be the smart kid in school and retains random bursts of knowledge.
-He is very physically affectionate, very open to hugs and people clinging to him. He also has a bit of an attachment issue. No I don't know why I think this I just do
-He and Bakugo are very stylish people and he tries to convince Bakugo to go shopping together because he kinda admired Bakugos style.
-He is close friends with literally the ENTIRE class
-He gives duos and groups in the class fun nicknames
-He is kinda like Deku in little self preservation, but he is deeply concerned about his friends. He beats himself up if he accidentally hurts them with his quirk
-He doesn't like the fact he has no control over the direction of the electricity
-He has gossip nights with Mina
-Momo tutors him and they became best buddies shortly after that started. Momo became like a mom friend towards him. They both kinda bond over that entire "I'm commonly taken advantage of because of my quirk" and she sticks up for him so he doesnt get taken advantage of
-I HC hes kinda low class. Not as bad as Ochako, but hes not extremely well off
-Bi king.
I might reblog this if I think of anymore but I plan on doing some of the others

netflix live action atla reaction
Ep 1
I don’t feel like the opening sequence actually added anything to the story. I mean, it gave the other nations some more agency I guess, but it doesn’t actually accomplish anything, at least not at first glance
Kyoshi voicing the opening is so random what the
I’ve heard criticism about the show starting with Aang and I agree, but I also think that the point of remakes is to give us different perspectives on the same story. I’m not a huge fan but I don’t hate it either
The bending looks so weird, not necessarily bad, just off
Idk how I feel about the southern water tribe seeming so much more built up, it kinda diminishes the first impression of what the war has done to them
Other people have already talked about them butchering Katara’s character so I’ll just say yeah and move on. Hopefully she’ll grow into herself and become more confident and proactive, but I guess we’ll see
Iroh don’t feel like Iroh tbh
Gran Gran reciting the og intro is painful, we already got this info three times in the past twenty minutes queen
Katara, kindly never liken your loss to Aang’s. You just met this kid who just found out everyone he’s ever known is dead, you don’t know him and you don’t know what he’s going through. You can empathize with his grief, but don’t act like it’s the same please
So far my expectation of “mid” has been holding true but the scenery is beautiful and the establishing shots are absolutely stunning
“Protect those who can’t protect themselves” ZANE NINJAGO?!????
Ayo Zuko kinda in character?!??? Who wudda thunk
“Let’s go save that weird kid” Yeah!!!! Sokka!!!!!!
Kick their ass Aang!!!!!
Ok but we’ve seen him fly without the glider several times now, why does he need it?
Ok, yeah, I’d kill for Sokka/Aang bromance
Ep 2
Iron’s saintly patience makes it’s debut lol
MOMO!!!! He’s so ugly I love him
If Gran Gran had the scroll the whole time, why did she only just now tell Katara about it? Her letter just says that it’s dangerous but the fire nation hasn’t come to their village in years
“But most importantly, you must have- sticky rice!” “Uncle, we don’t have time for this” oh, now we’re getting somewhere!!
This show is so stupid, I love it
Suki best character after four lines of dialogue real not clickbait????
Shirtless guy per episode: 2/2
Katara’s outfit is so pretty!!! My irl watched the show before me and said the costumes are good but feel like costumes and I second that but it’s fun seeing how they interpret the og outfits
Suki is playing with him and having too much fun with it, as am I
Aang being afraid of himself is such a good decision, really reminiscent of his reaction to burning Katara in original
Ewwww romance /hj
Obsessed with the discussion of what it’s like being a nonbender and the extra steps you have to take
Yeah ok, they’ve already done Suki better than the original
Kyoshi boutta throw hands with a twelve year old fr
Women win these
Dang, Sukka kinda cute
The cgi is decent but Momo not having a shadow is so distracting
Ep 3
That’s… that’s Azula…
A resistance??? Epic!! I’m sure everything will work out just fine for these kids
I’m so excited to see what they do with Azula
Don’t love Aang teaching Katara instead of the other way around
“What makes you think we’re outsiders?” *Katara and Sokka look pointedly at their bright blue clothes*
Teo my love!!!!!
The inventor’s actor looks so much like him, I didn’t realize he didn’t have a name in the original lol
Ewww stop hitting on her Jet istg
Ok stop, you’ve fundamentally misunderstood Jet as a character. He does not think he’s cool, he doesn’t give a shit. He thinks he’s right. He’s too angry to care about charming people. He’s a boy hardened by loss and war, he’s not a fuckboy for pete’s sake
I really like this take on Sokka: he’s smart as a whip but was born and raised to fight, he’s never had the opportunity to take himself or his ideas seriously
“We don’t need to be afraid of our pain, we just need to decide what we’re going to do with it” that’s the good stuff right there
However, it is not escaping my notice that Katara only improves when guys give her advice
The blasting jelly looks so stupid
Ep 4
Bumi time!!!! I really do wish Aang mentioned him earlier
It’s giving season 2 finale and I’m here for it
Ok I’m kinda into this, the way it’s folding aspects of different episodes of the original together is really making it a distinct story. Still against live action remakes on principle, but it’s at least doing something interesting.
Bumi my love!!!! He’s so silly and unhinged, I would die for him
Katara popping off!!!!!! Love her taking ownership of her power
I really like Bumi getting into how he’s seen all the devastation of the past century and that Aang doesn’t know what that’s like, his rage and pain is so important to me
Oma and Shu lesbians?!????? /vpos
I am so glad their getting into Iroh’s actions as a general, it hurts but it’s something I missed in the original
DAMN lil zuko deserves the world, man
THE ‘LEAVES FROM THE VINE’ MOTIF GOT TEARS IN MY EYES INSTANTLY, WHAT THE HELL???? Atla has me in a chokehold and always will tbh
I really like that we’re getting Sokka and Katara bonding in the cave of two lovers. Romance is OUT family is IN!!
Zuko is kinda crushing it
Platonic love for the win!!!!!
Katara is so quick with it!!!
Bumi getting the emotional confrontation he always deserved my beloved
Aang’s lil “is that really so bad?” I love him so much. The only way the world can heal is childlike hope and an unwillingness to sit back and accept tragedy
“Home? Everything I need is on this boat” AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Ep 5
Sokka is a mess this episode, good for him
Heibai my beloved
This whole episode is so fascinating, I’m just along for the ride lol
Ep 6
Roku is so silly goofy and for what
June girlbossin’
Ew why she up in Iroh’s face???
Blue Spirit time baby!!!!!!
Zuko and Aang actual conversation time?????
The boys are bonding!!!!
What the fuck?! They made his scar less severe???? Zuko has a vision impairment, how dare you take that away
Zuko’s crew being the division he refused to sacrifice is everything, actually
Bro I thought there were only six episodes, if it ended there I would’ve lost it
Ep 7
Zhao SUCKS, man gleefully tried to murder a child
I knew the wolf was Yue
Making Yue a spiritual leader is a move I respect, idk how I feel about her being a waterbender now
I don’t know how I feel about Yue’s characterization, her personality feels weirdly unnatural
No one told Kuruk that friendship is magic ig
Kill that man Katara, you can and you should
Rare Aang L
“So no plan?” “… I’m working on it, uncle” love them
Sokka popping off!!
“Go kick his ass” how did I know he was gonna say that lmao
Did her hair fall down lol, that was so forced
Ep 8
I saw it coming but I like the other waterbending women getting a role
General Katara my beloved, I don’t see people putting her in leadership positions post-war very often but she deserves it, she’s a great leader
Don’t think I like the moon and ocean spirits only visiting, feels like an odd and unnecessary change to make
THEY KILLED MOMO?!!??!!? WHAT THE FUCK?!????!??!!!!
Nvm he’s fine
Aang telling Katara to go easy on Zuko!!!!
We’re really ending the season without Aang waterbending a single time lol
Conclusion
It was enjoyable!! Not great but pretty good!!! It starts slow but once it gets going it does some really interesting stuff. I’m not a fan of all the changes they made, but a few of them are ones I’m very glad are there. The effects are decent but whoever is doing the fake beards needs to be fired. Definitely some choices made that I don’t like regarding some of the characters (specifically Katara and Iroh) but it overall is distinct enough from the original to be a worthwhile watch and also pretty fun

Let it Happen (Sequel)
Idol: Sana (Twice)
Prompt: Can you please do a sequel to Twice Sana's Let It Happen scenario? I really like it, and I wanna see what happens next~ 😆
Writer: Admin Kiwi
A/N: Based on some things that have already happened to me this semester, like a ton of homework and a professor being missing the first day. Again, sorry this took so long, but I hope you all enjoy!
Warnings: There are some curse words and one innuendo. I think that’s really all.
Let it Happen
Tumblr media
“I cannot believe our first class was cancelled and the professor didn’t even tell us. I could have slept in an extra hour.” Sana stood staring at the sign taped to the door in front of her, eyes narrowed and lips pouting. Behind her, you laughed.
“I can’t say I’m that disappointed, honestly. We can go get the breakfast we didn’t manage to eat before coming here.”
“You just don’t want to do a public speaking class,” Sana said, turning to look at you and crossing her arms. You rolled your eyes and tugged at her arm, pulling her away from the class and towards the door heading out of the building.
“Only communications majors would want to take a public speaking class, Sana. You guys are the weird ones.” She gave in and let you hook your arm through hers as the two of you walked. It was the first day of Fall semester classes and there were people everywhere, with their maps of the campus out and their phones glaring their schedules up at them. Sana effortlessly moved through the clumps of confused freshmen and tired seniors, pulling you along behind her.
“You never know,” she said, speaking over the voices of all the other students. “Maybe taking this public speaking class will end up helping you. Maybe you’ll switch majors.” You scoffed and tightened your hold on her arm so that she didn’t leave you behind, shaking your head vigorously.
“The only reason I passed Interpersonal Communication is because I had you to slowly explain each and every single point to me. I was lucky there weren’t any actual exams, or I probably would have failed.”
“You’re being dramatic.” As the two of you exited the building, you breathed a sigh of relief at the feeling of being able to move your shoulders without bumping into another person and steered Sana in the direction of the mess hall. The sun was shining bright outside, beating down onto the campus below, and Sana squinted her eyes against the light, looking up at the clear blue sky above.
“I wonder why he cancelled,” she said as she looked around. “It’s a nice day out here.”
“Maybe he was dreading public speaking too.” Sana turned and playfully punched you in the arm, making you wince and whine dramatically.
“I’ll check the class shell. He probably said why there.” She pulled out her phone as the two of you came up to the mess hall. You opened the door for her and untangled your arms so that you could make sure she didn’t run into the door as she squinted at her phone screen, grumbling under her breath. She’d already forgotten which password she’d chosen to use this semester.
“What do you want to eat for breakfast?” She glanced up when you spoke, giving the food options a once-over.
“Anything that I can get coffee with. I’m going to need caffeine if I’m going to have to deal with you making jabs at my major all day.” You smiled and took her arm again, pulling her along towards the waffles.
“I’m not that bad,” you said, “you’re exaggerating and you know it.” Sana huffed, side eyeing you as the two of you stepped up to the counter to get the coffee.
“I’m getting the largest one here. And you’re buying.” You laughed, and she felt a rush run through her body that had nothing to do with the promise of coffee at her fingertips.
“Fine, two large coffees and two waffles. Would you like anything else, Princess?” She liked that nickname. Flipping her hair over her shoulder, she put on her haughtiest look and sashayed away, making you laugh again, loudly. Some of the students in the mess hall looked up from their phones and conversations to give the two of you weird looks. “People are going to think you’re a drama major if you keep this up.” As the two of you walked up to the counter to pay, Sana flipped her hair again.
“Really? You think I’m that good?”
“No. I think you’re just that over the top.” She stuck out her tongue at you.
“Well, since you’re paying, I’m gonna go find a table. Keep being rude and I’ll make you stand while you eat.” As she walked away, you raised your voice so she could hear you over the hum of conversation that filled the room.
“You know you love me.” As she walked away, Sana shook her head and looked down at the ground. That was the problem. She was actually falling in love with you, and she was totally, completely, absolutely screwed.
“I feel like this is deja-vu.” Jihyo sat at her desk, leaning back in her chair to look at Sana with her arms crossed over her chest. “I’m not a communications major, you are. You’re the one that’s good at relationships. I haven’t dated anyone in two years.”
“I could set you up,” Sana said immediately, causing Jihyo to give her an unimpressed look and turn back to look at her laptop.
“I will not hesitate to kick you out of my room.” Whining, Sana flopped back onto the bed and stared at the ceiling.
“I just need advice on what to do. Can I not ask my smart friend for advice?” The fan in the corner of the room began to squeal, filling up the empty air as Jihyo typed something on her laptop instead of replying. Sana started counting the pieces of glitter on the ceiling as she waited for a response.
“You can ask me for advice, sure, but my specialty is in math and science, not relationships. You should ask Jungyeon.” Sana stopped counting (so far there were 153 pieces of glitter) and lifted her head off the bed.
“Jungyeon?” Jihyo placed her chin on her palm and glanced Sana’s way.
“Yeah? She’s dated like, six people. She’s dating Nayeon now, and I’m pretty sure she dated Momo in high school. She has the experience.” Sana let her jaw drop open, quickly sitting up.
“I knew she was dating Nayeon, but wow. I can’t believe I’m friends with a player.”
“Don’t let her hear you say that. Also, you didn’t hear any of that information from me, okay? And don’t tell Nayeon.” She squinted her eyes suspiciously at Jihyo, but the older girl just looked back at her laptop, obviously done with the conversation. “Now go bother her, please. My art history teacher already assigned a shit ton of homework and it’s all due tomorrow.”
“Damn. Good luck with that.” Jihyo groaned and leaned forward in her chair, closing her eyes and wincing a bit.
“Thanks. I’m gonna need it.” With one last glance at her friend, Sana jumped up from the bed and headed out the door, pulling out her phone as she closed the door behind her to send a warning to Jungyeon that she was coming over. She’d already walked in on her and Nayeon once, and she really didn’t want to do that again. As she walked through the halls, she noticed that she’d gotten a message from you and opened it.
The professor for public speaking will be back tomorrow :(
She laughed and sent a few emojis back before stopping at the door to Jungyeon’s shared dorm with Nayeon. Her knuckles had barely touched the door in a knock when the door was jerked open.
“Welcome. Make yourself at home. Thanks for the heads up this time.” With a roll of her eyes, Sana slipped past Jungyeon into the room. Nayeon was sitting on her bed eating some kind of chips from a giant bag, and Sana remembered why she never hung out in their dorm room. Clothes and stuffed animals cluttered the already small room, and Jungyeon’s shoe and hat collections had been getting out of control for the last few semesters already.
“Did Jihyo get tired of listening to you whine about (Y/N) and kick you out again?” Sana decided to sit on the desk chair instead of the bed. She didn’t want to know what happened on those sheets.
“She said that she’s not the person to ask for relationship advice. She said you guys would be better.” Jungyeon rolled her eyes and hopped onto the bed beside Nayeon.
“She didn’t happen to mention that she’s been talking to that freshman girl, did she.” Sana huffed and pulled out her phone again, quickly going to Jihyo’s number.
“No, she didn’t! Why am I always the one to be left out of the loop?”
“You were probably too busy fawning over (Y/N) to notice,” Nayeon said, letting Jungyeon take the chips. “Anyway, what do you need to know? It’s obvious you guys are totally all over each other. Just ask them to go on a date with you or something. It’s not that hard.”
“But what if I’m wrong and you’re wrong? What if they just want to be friends and they’re naturally super friendly?”
“Sana, you guys literally hold hands all the time. They always buy you food and make sure you eat and you’re both totally whipped for each other. Plus, you’ll never know if you never try. Wanna know how I asked Nayeon out?”
“No,” Sana said, shaking her head so fast it hurt her neck. “Please spare me the details. You guys are gross.”
“You don’t have any room to talk,” Jungyeon replied, shrugging her shoulders and shoving a handful of chips into her mouth. Nayeon leaned forward.
“Listen. Just take our word for it and ask them out. I promise, you wont regret it.” Sana sighed and looked down at the phone in her hands. You’d replied with a crying emoji, and a skull.
I need comfort food, let’s go get ice cream.
“Thanks, guys. I’ll do my best. Now you guys can get back to doing whatever you were doing before I came in.” Nayeon grinned and wiggled her eyebrows, making Sana fake gag as she stood from the desk chair and headed to the door.
“We believe in you, Sana,” the older girl said, at the same time that Jungyeon yelled “get some” at an embarrassing level. Sana made sure to slam the door as she left, hoping the blush on her face wasn’t too obvious.
Meet at the regular?
Yes please :)
Be there in 10.
The little ice cream parlor near the campus had been Sana’s go-to spot since she’d started as a freshman, and it had been the best decision to share it with you. Jihyo and Mina were always too busy with school to come with her, Momo was always watching her diet unless it came to meat, and Jungyeon and Nayeon were gross to go with anywhere anymore. It was so much better to go with someone, because otherwise she was usually the only single party there.
When she opened the door, she was greeted with the usual sight of a quiet interior, decorated in a retro theme with records lining the walls. The owner waved when she came in.
“The regular for you today?” She nodded, walking up to the counter and watching him scoop it into her favorite waffle cone. Just as he scooped up the last bit, the bell over the door jingled and Sana turned around to see you walking inside, framed by the bright sunlight shining in through the windows. The smile that crossed her features was involuntary, and her heart skipped a beat when you smiled back, walking up to the counter.
“Hey. Miss me?”
“Always,” she replied, bumping her shoulder against your own. The owner cleared his throat, and Sana gave him an apologetic smile, reaching over to grab her cone.
“For you?” He asked you as he rang her up.
“The regular. For the start of the semester.” He chuckled and gave Sana her receipt before grabbing your cone and leaning over to scoop up your favorite flavor.
“I had almost forgot you guys were already starting. I guess this is one way to kick it off.”
“Starting this semester right.” As he handed you your cone and began ringing you out, Sana wandered over to one of the tables and sat down, tasting the ice cream. It was sweet as ever, and she closed her eyes for a second, savoring the taste.
“You really like this ice cream, don’t you?” She opened her eyes, and you pulled out the chair across from her, grinning.
“How could you tell?”
“Call it a hunch.” She giggled and decided not to reply, taking another bite of her ice cream instead. As she ate, she let her eyes wander over you, taking in your relaxed figure and the way your lips closed around the ice cream, leaving remnants behind on your lips for you to lick away. Realizing she was staring, she quickly looked back down at her own ice cream, remembering the advice from her friends. Well, it was now or never.
“Hey, (Y/N).” You looked up, eyebrows raised, waiting for her to speak. She licked her lips, wetting them and steadying her heartbeat. “Do you want to go out with me sometime?”
“Aren’t we out right now?” Sana shook her head.
“Well, kind of. But I don’t mean like this. I mean. Do you want to go to dinner with me? As a date?” Your eyes widened, and there was still some ice cream on your lips, left behind in your shock. Sana wanted to kiss it away.
“Wait. Are you finally asking me out?”
“What do you mean finally?” You chased away the ice cream with your tongue and smiled.
“I’ve been waiting for you to ask me out since we met, pretty much.” Sana’s mouth dropped open in shock for what was at least the third time that day.
“Why did I have to be the one to make the first move here?”
“You’re the communications major. I’m way too shy to do anything like that.” She huffed.
“Just because I’m a communications major doesn’t mean I’m automatically good at knowing other people’s feelings.”
“Better than me. I almost failed the relationships class.”
“Interpersonal communication, you mean.” You laughed, and Sana’s heart felt like it was going to beat right out of her chest and fly away.
“Yeah, that one.”
“I take it back. No dinner for you, because you’re being rude to my major.” You leaned across the table, grabbing her arm.
“Wait no, I want dinner. I’ll stop making jokes about communications, just for you.” Sana tried her best to look disbelieving, but whenever she was around you, she just could stop the smile from spreading over her face.
“Somehow, I don’t believe you.” You pouted, sticking out your bottom lip, and damn, did she want to kiss you. “Fine, fine. My offer for dinner still stands.”
“Good. For a communications major, you’re really bad at this stuff.”
“You lied to me,” Sana said, narrowing her eyes playfully and leaning forward. “Will you ever stop using my passion to make fun of me?”
“Make me,” you said. The owner had disappeared into the back of the shop, and there was no one else around to care. So Sana leaned across the table and did.

Scallop Fried Rice
“Literally days before quarantine hit New York City, the Tribeca tasting menu Atera restaurant opened a wine bar next door, serving small plates. They’ve stuck it out through the pandemic (while Atera is closed), and have a great outdoor dining situation with tables scattered down Worth Street. The small plates are all pretty excellent, but the scallop rice with egg yolk and trout roe stood out as a highlight. From a service perspective, it’s not surprising that this place is connected to a fine dining establishment, so we’d recommend checking it out for a special night out, outdoors.”

Matt Tervooren Cafe Rue Dix $ $ $ $ French ,  West African  in  Brooklyn ,  Crown Heights $$$$ 1451 Bedford Ave
Gambas a la Plancha
“The grilled tiger shrimp at this French-Senegalese spot in Crown Heights look like delicious, albeit normal-sized shrimp, but each one makes you feel like you’re at the tail-end of a peel n’ eat free-for-all. They’re dense and tender, lightly charred and buttery, and somehow, they may not even be the most memorable part of the dish. Underneath them lies a soft pita that you only really notice after finishing half of the shrimp, by which time it’s sopping with lemon juice, spices, and a whole lot of butter sauce.”

 Hannah Albertine Casa Enrique $ $ $ $ Mexican  in  Long Island City ,  Queens $$$$ 5-48 49th Ave.
Chile en Nogada
“Casa Enrique’s chile en nogada is as delicious as it is stunning. Their version is fruit heavy, and filled with enough pears, apples, peaches, apricots, and raisins to convince your stomach you drank a smoothie, and the handful of salty ground pork inside the poblano helps to subdue the overall sweetness. While this is technically a special, you’ll often see it on the menu. Keep an eye out for this pomegranate-studded, cream-covered pepper like you’re scanning a park for an isolated bench.”

Hannah Albertine Brooklyn Noosh $$$$ 988 Atlantic Ave
Flamin’ Hot Cheetos Wings
“I ate these wings sitting next to a raging fire pit in the alley behind this new Bed-Stuy spot. Between the smoky campfire smell, the slow-burn heat of the wings, and the fact that my friend cried out after hot cheeto dust got in his eye, I briefly forgot I was still in 2020. What I’m saying is, these fried, cayenne-forward wings are a little bit ridiculous and a little bit painful, and they might be exactly what you need to feel better tonight.”
-Hannah Albertine, Staff Writer
Rahi $ $ $ $ Indian  in  West Village $$$$ 60 Greenwich Ave
Methi Gosht
“I went to this West Village Indian spot while researching The Best Fried Chicken Sandwiches In NYC, and their garam masala-coated version certainly didn’t disappoint. But for how much I still think about that sandwich, I spend just as much time reminiscing about the bone-in goat curry. Cutting a hole in the puffed naan shell releases steam that makes it seem like the kitchen’s entire spice rack is being run through a still. The basmati rice acts like a sponge soaking up all of the flavor from the juices and minced goat, and yet the best bites are the pieces of gamey meat attached to the bones at the bottom of the pot.”
-Matt Tervooren, Staff Writer
Jalsa - Grill And Gravy $$$$ 964 Coney Island Ave
Chicken Dum Biryani
“Biryani is my weighted blanket, my 15-minute yoga flow, and my chill music mix all in one. So when I got a craving for it last weekend, I figured I’d go out of my way to find the best biryani on the planet (read: within my delivery radius). Thankfully, the chicken dum biryani I ordered from Jalsa in Ditmas Park had exactly the kind of balanced-but-bold flavor I needed. It’s a big portion with a few whole chicken legs inside, and all of the meat falls right off the bone. The rice tasted like saffron which was extremely satisfying and also reminded me of an old roommate whose IG handle was ‘saffrongirl69.’ I hope she’s gotten better about doing the dishes.”
-Nikko Duren, Editorial Assistant
 Matt Tervooren Diner $ $ $ $ American  in  Williamsburg $$$$ 85 Broadway
Fried Chicken Sandwich
“I’m working on a guide to the best fried chicken sandwiches in NYC, and without giving too much away, I can share three takeaways from my research thus far. First, I’m currently more chicken than Foghorn Leghorn. Second, white meat - why? And third, Diner will make the guide. What separates the version at this Williamsburg American spot from most of the others I’ve tried recently is the meat itself. It’s so tender that if it weren’t for the thin layer of crispy skin, it’d be nearly impossible to tell where the juicy, buttery meat ends, and the soft, buttery potato bun begins. Just know that it’s only offered at lunch Friday through Sunday.”
-Matt Tervooren, Staff Writer
 Hannah Albertine Joe & Pat's $$$$ 168 1st Ave
Clam Pizza
“My mother always taught me to think that molluscs and cheese don’t belong together. But the cracker-thin clam pie from Joe & Pat’s is proof that food rules are mostly stupid, because the cheese, garlic, parsley, and briny clams on this pizza should start an LLC together. Make this your next Friday night takeout so you can weigh in on my mom’s abrasive seafood-dairy policies.”
-Hannah Albertine, Staff Writer
 Hannah Albertine KM1 $ $ $ $ Latin ,  Caribbean ,  Dominican  in  East Village $$$$ 58 E 1st St
Mofongo de Churrasco
“KM1 is a new Caribbean restaurant right across from those handball courts on Houston Street in the East Village. The menu has a bunch of Dominican dishes, including a plate of perfectly-seasoned strip steak with a crispy pile of plantains and a light tomato sauce. Between the tomato broth bath and the alternating bites of chewy steak and crunchy fried plantains, this mofongo was the highlight of my eating week.”
-Hannah Albertine, Staff Writer
 Winner Winner $ $ $ $ Cafe/Bakery  in  Brooklyn ,  Park Slope $$$$ 367 7th Ave
Rosemary and Grape Focaccia
“If your neighborhood bakery doesn’t serve grape and rosemary focaccia, that’s okay - mine doesn’t either. But recently I was biking around Park Slope, and decided to try a neighborhood bakery that does. At Winner, the aforementioned focaccia loaf was sweet, salty, crispy, and fluffy all at once. I’ll be pretending this spot is my neighborhood bakery from now on.”
-Nikko Duren, Editorial Assistant
 Hannah Albertine Lhasa Tibetan Restaurant $ $ $ $ Tibetan  in  East Village $$$$ 177 1st Ave
Non-Veg Momo Combo
“One of Lhasa’s momos may have exploded beef juice all over my laptop, and that’s OK. It’s a good thing that they’re stuffed to the brim with meat, onions, ginger, and chives. This Jackson Heights Tibetan restaurant just opened a new location on 11th and 1st Avenue, and I plan on slowly but surely breaking the keyboard of my computer with their momo broth.”
- Hannah Albertine, Staff Writer
 Black Crescent $ $ $ $ Lower East Side $$$$ 76 Clinton St
Oysters
“Admittedly, oysters don’t have to try very hard to make me happy. But there was something special about these particular East Coast oysters from the recently-reopened Black Crescent. Maybe it was the fact that they were briny-tasting and smooth, or that they were the first oysters I’ve had all summer, or that I had already consumed a margarita in a plastic cup. Whatever it was, I was overjoyed.”
- Hannah Albertine, Staff Writer
La Isla Cuchifritos $ $ $ $ Latin  in  Brooklyn ,  Bushwick $$$$ 1439 Myrtle Ave.
Alcapurria
“If I could have any superpower, my ninth or tenth pick would be to have an unlimited number of the dense, crispy alcapurrias from La Isla Cuchifritos in Bushwick. People would say things like, ‘That seems like a waste of a superpower,’ and I’d just be like, ‘Do want an alcapurria or not?’ And they’d probably say yes. I know this because I ate a few recently, and this is how any reasonable person should respond.”
- Bryan Kim, Senior Staff Writer
Matt Tervooren Viking Fresh Off The Hook $$$$ 1905 Bayview Ave
Fried Oysters & Raw Tuna
“I’d enjoy fried oysters anywhere. Most recently, I had a bucket of them next to the dock on Long Beach Island. Like lots of spots on LBI, Viking Fresh Off The Hook serves fantastic seafood, both fried and raw - like locally caught tuna, which I had in a poke bowl alongside the oysters.”
- Matt Tervooren, Staff Writer
Hannah Albertine A Farm Stand Off Of Route 28 In The Catskills $$$$ Route 28
Satsuma Plums
“I was in the Catskills recently and stopped at a farm stand on Route 28 near Arkville to buy a box of satsuma plums. They’re so juicy that biting into one tends to cause a stone fruit Sweeney Todd situation. I had to eat them over a sink. Now I will live my life knowing plums can be categorized in one of two ways: over-the-sink fruit or non-over-the-sink fruit.”
- Hannah Albertine, Staff Writer
 Nikko Duren Telly's Taverna $ $ $ $ Greek  in  Astoria ,  Queens $$$$ 2813 23rd Ave
Spanakopita
“Rediscovering the NYC ferry has given my bike a chance to relax at home, while I visit parts of the city I haven’t seen in months. Most recently, the ferry brought me and this incredible spanakopita from Telly’s Taverna together, thus solving my commitment issues and inspiring me to go caroling four months early. It’s flakier than your favorite croissant and when you cut into it, you get that beautiful cracking sound that lets you know it just came out of the oven. This spanakopita should be on your NYC meals bucket list.”
- Nikko Duren, Editorial Assistant
 Hannah Albertine Ray's Candy Store $$$$ 113 Avenue A
Swirl Soft Serve With Rainbow Sprinkles
“One of the only, true constants of my summer has been the vanilla-chocolate swirl soft serve from Ray’s Candy Store. I appreciate that it has pastel rainbow sprinkles and that unmistakable dairy flavor that leaves you as thirsty as a camel. Bring a bottle of water and a five-dollar bill, and order one for yourself.”
- Hannah Albertine, Staff Writer
 Nikko Duren A&A Bake and Doubles $ $ $ $ Caribbean  in  Bedford-Stuyvesant ,  Brooklyn $$$$ 481 Nostrand Ave
Doubles
“If you know me, you know that hyperbole isn’t really my thing. So when I say that I think about the doubles from A&A at least once a week, you should take me at my word. I finally made it back the other day (due to the fact that I fixed my bike), and the impeccably-spiced doubles were delicious as always. I also tried their dense, crispy saheena for the first time, although I let my coworker have most of it, as I’m an incredibly giving person.”
- Bryan Kim, Senior Staff Writer
Matt Tervooren Miss Ada $ $ $ $ Mediterranean ,  Middle Eastern  in  Fort Greene $$$$ 184 Dekalb Ave
Chicken Shawarma With Hummus
“If I had to describe my brunch at Miss Ada with two words, I’d go with “disorienting” and “fantastic.” It was disorienting because it didn’t feel like brunch. The whipped ricotta was sweet enough to be served in a dessert shop, the hummus with shawarma had as many bright colors as the food scene in Hook, and the malawach was like a pancake that decided it was born to be more than just a pancake. As for the second descriptor, it all tasted fantastic.”
- Matt Tervooren, Staff Writer
 Hannah Albertine Titan Foods Inc. $ $ $ $ Greek  in  Astoria $$$$ 25-56 31st St
Giant Beans In Tomato Sauce & Egg-Lemon Soup
“I went to this Greek grocery store in Astoria partly because my friend told me Danny Devito likes to shop there, and partly because I have a special place in my heart for imported canned goods. I left with incredible future lunch plans (a perfectly tart egg lemon soup, and a can of giant beans soaked in tomato sauce that didn’t require any additional seasoning) but, unfortunately, no Danny Devito sighting.”
- Hannah Albertine, Staff Writer
Nikko Duren Krupa Grocery $ $ $ $ American  in  Park Slope ,  Windsor Terrace $$$$ 231 Prospect Park West
Nashville Hot Shrimp Burger
“Last weekend, I picked up a Prospect Park Picnic Box from Krupa Grocery and ate it, well, in the park. Admittedly, I was skeptical of the Nashville Hot Shrimp Burger, but the patty was nice and juicy, with satisfying crisp edges. Together with a spattering of creamy chive aioli and heaven-sent pickles, this thing was good enough to make me question whether a “seafood burger” deserves a spot on our Best Burger list next year.”
- Nikko Duren, Editorial Assistant
 Hannah Albertine Soothr $ $ $ $ Thai  in  East Village $$$$ 204 E 13th St
Koong Karee
“This new Thai spot’s shrimp and egg dish is genuinely one of the most delicious things I’ve ever eaten out of a plastic container. Its gooey consistency keeps the tail-on shrimp tender and every bite tastes like shrimp paste just called curry powder to say ‘I love you.’ I don’t care where you live, you need to try it.”
- Hannah Albertine, Staff Writer
Hills Kitchen $ $ $ $ West African  in  Brooklyn ,  Bushwick $$$$ 252 Knickerbocker Ave
Efo Soup
“I’ve been ordering a lot from Hills Kitchen, a West African restaurant in Bushwick, and it’s always hard for me to try something new there. You see, I really like their efo soup, which is incredibly rich and packed with more spinach than I typically consume in a month. Order it, get a sticky ball of eba on the side, and consume these things in unison.”
- Bryan Kim, Senior Staff Writer
 Nikko Duren Ricas Pupusas & Mas $ $ $ $ Salvadoran  in  Queens ,  Woodside $$$$ 47-55 47th St
Pupusas
“I don’t eat enough pupusas. And since that’s one void in my life I can actively fill, I ordered two from Ricas Pupusas Y Mas. The masa is thick and sweet, yet humble enough to let the cheesy, meaty insides have some time in the spotlight. Based on this excellent meal (and humility lesson), I’ll be consuming more of these pupusas in the coming weeks.”
- Nikko Duren, Editorial Assistant
 Hannah Albertine Cervo's $ $ $ $ Seafood  in  Lower East Side $$$$ 43 Canal St
Fried Corn
“It’s summertime and I can’t stop saying the word “corn” in an Irish accent - like how I’d imagine Saorsie Ronan would pronounce it. So, I of course jumped at the opportunity to eat the new fried corn dish from Cervo’s. It’s served in a takeout bowl bathtub of bottarga and tomato aioli. You’ll want to dip your corn so that every kernel is drenched in what is essentially salty fish mayo.”
- Hannah Albertine, Staff Writer
Matt Tervooren BK Jani $$$$ 679 Grand St
Jani Burger and Seekh Kebab Roll
“I ordered the burger and seekh kebab roll at BK Jani thinking that I’d bring about half of each home as leftovers. Then one thing led to another, and I was sitting in their lovely backyard with nothing but a bit of mint chutney and a vague sense of accomplishment.”
- Matt Tervooren, Staff Writer
Hannah Albertine The Bun Hut $ $ $ $ Chinese ,  Caribbean ,  Jamaican  in  Lower East Side $$$$ 178 Stanton St
Coconut Curry Chicken Roti
“The roti I tried from this recently-opened Caribbean spot comes with creamy curry, mango salsa, and a few sweet fried plantains - all wrapped up in a thin dhal puri. It was juicy and thick, unlike 90% of my recent carrot-hummus-iced-coffee lunches.”
- Hannah Albertine, Staff Writer
 Noah Devereaux Federoff’s $ $ $ $ Sandwiches  in  Williamsburg $$$$ 178 N 10th St
Cheesesteak Sandwich
“A few days ago, I messaged some coworkers and told them that I was going to order a cheesesteak. They hadn’t asked about my dinner plans, but sometimes I like to be my own hype man. The cheesesteak was from Federoff’s in Williamsburg, it was an intensely salty mess of beef, cheese, and cheese-soaked bread, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.”
- Bryan Kim, Senior Staff Writer
