The High Chapparal. First shown on US television on 10 September 1967 and ran for four seasons, finishing in March 1971. The High Chapparal was the name of the ranch in the series run by the Cannon family (with Chapparal being the name of a plant). The main stars were Leif Erickson, Cameron Mitchell, Henry Darrow and Linda Cristal with Mark Slade also starring in the first three seasons.
The theme tune was by David Rose who also composed the theme to Bonanza and Little House on the Prairie as well as a piece of music called 'The Stripper' which many know better as the music Morecambe and Wise make their breakfast to. There is a bit of similarity in places to Telstar by The Tornados but the two tunes are distinct enough.

Morecambe and Wise - Andre Previn (1971)
I was searching for this recently - the only versions on YouTube were edited, which misses a lot of the comedy in the anticipation, the time it takes to get to the alleged point of this sketch, but I finally tracked it down on Vimeo. idk, it is just one of those formative things in my life, and I wanted to share it with y'all.
It is effortlessly funny - but of course there was an incredible amount of effort behind the scenes to make it work, and talent, and in the end, sheer serendipity of casting.
Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise liked to rehearse exhaustively, which had been problematic for other busy guest stars, but, for Andre Previn, proved nearly impossible. They wanted him for five days; his agent bargained them down to three; and then his father got sick and he had to fly to America, only arriving back the day of the recording.
Eric and Ernie were convinced it would be a disaster - the script is long, and they needed someone who could convincingly play the straight man to their troublesome, chaotic personae, and Andre was neither an actor nor a comedian. But he nailed it--and it remains one of their most famous sketches, and one of the things for which he was most recognised, for the rest of his life:
"Eric was very worried that I wasn’t a comedian. He said, ‘If anyone thinks we’re trying to be funny, we’re finished. We must act as though it’s very serious.’ The sketch was scheduled at about five minutes, but when we did it on air it was nearer 10. Eric added bits as he went, like when he slapped my face. To this day, whenever I walk down a street in London someone will shout, ‘Hey, Mr Preview.’ Every single bloody time."

You can see all the parts where Peter has appeared in this show at the link. All parts of the show are wonderful. I especially recommend the unusual part where Peter sings and dances. Peter would have been one of the first to admit, neither singing nor dancing were his forte but he does surprisingly well.

You're nicked! The Sweeney finally meet their match.
Not only did John Thaw and Dennis Waterman appear in the 1976 Morecambe & Wise Christmas Show (first shown in the UK on 25 December 1976) but Eric and Ernie returned the favour and appeared in an episode of The Sweeney titled 'Hearts and Minds' (first shown in the UK on 23 November 1978).

It seems giant sized Morecombe & Wise appearing over the lunar landscape is enough to make Sean Connery break into a run for it on the 1978 Christmas edition of Look-in.
