GCreation’s GDW-02 Rebel/IDW Prowl.
He’s quite pretty, overall. Also, pretty dang hefty. Makes me think about the panel wherein Jazz mentions how heavy Prowl’s gotten while dragging him. Canon accurate weight? *lol*
Anyway, while he’s got a good weight to him, I noped right out of transforming him. Compared to him, Masterpiece Blue and Smokey are easy. I got a little afraid of breaking something. It’s a good thing I keep my bots in robot form most of the time, anyway, I suppose.
It looks like he’s just a hair taller than my Masterpiece figures, while I’m on the subject, so he fits in fine with them size-wise. Articulation is not bad, though I’m finding the joints kind of on the tight side. At least he won’t flop around? I’m definitely impressed with the detail on him. I’ll be keeping an eye on GCreation, I think. See if they put out anything else I’m interested in in the future.
Someday, I’ll have a better place figured out for pics of these guys. ^^;

Pope: Private property is ‘not Christian’, WEF agrees
At the turn of the month November-December, the pope made a move that was described as shocking by many. He argued that Christianity did not support the right to own a home. This led to surprised and outraged reactions, whereby several pointed out that those who are forced to rent or beg for shelter can never be free. Free West Media can here reveal that the Pope's statement is in line with the plans that the globalist elite has long discussed and also more or less clearly communicated to the public, something that most people have overlooked. Among other things, we present the World Economic Forum's 8-point vision for 2030. These world-changing plans are beginning to materialize in various ways now, including in China.

Pope Francis attracted a lot of attention in Catholic circles on November 30 when he said several controversial things in a video message to judges from the Committee on Social Rights in Africa and America. However, the general public is not aware of his sensational statement, as the system media did not report on it.
The pope said, among other things, that a new “social justice” is needed and that private ownership is not something obvious in Christianity and therefore not for the Catholic Church either.
“Let us build the new social justice and admit that the Christian tradition has never recognized the right to private property as absolute and immovable,” said Francis.
Outraged reactions
Many were shocked by the statement and pointed out that the right to own private property is one of the most important human rights.
PROFESSOR KLAUS SCHWAB, 82, is a German engineer, economist and professor of business policy who is best known as the founder and chairman of the powerful globalist foundation World Economic Forum (WEF). In his book Covid-19: The Great Reset, Schwab claims that the world “will never” return to normal, despite acknowledging that the alleged coronavirus pandemic “does not pose a new existential threat.” – The pandemic represents a rare but narrow time window with opportunities to reflect (re: flect), rethink (re: imagine) and restore (re: set) our world, Schwab said at the launch of The Great Reset this summer. Photo: KTU
They pointed out that without that right you are like slaves of old, who must rely on their owners giving them a roof over their heads and food. Being always forced to earn in order to pay for the most basic need – protection against the forces of the weather – makes you both unfree and in practice completely powerless, some said on social media.
The pope’s statement was also widely discussed in Christian circles and no comments were positive. The exception was possibly the Twitter account Lichten & Bright who wrote:“Thank you for letting us know the Pope’s position on private ownership of property and means of production. We had no idea that he was an advocate of nationalizations [the state seizes] all land and business companies and against democratic elections. Thoughtful things”.
The Twitter account Catholic Victory wrote briefly that “Francis is a heretic and not a pope”.
Several people pointed out that it was reminiscent of the startling tones heard for several years from the World Economic Forum (WEF) foundation, which is best known for the annual conference in Davos, Switzerland. It brings together some of the world’s most powerful policy makers and globalists in politics and business. It was precisely the WEF that this summer, via its “ambassador” Prince Charles, launched The Great Reset, which more and more world leaders are now talking openly about being implemented.
The author of The Great Reset is Klaus Schwab, chairman of the powerful WEF, who wrote a 280-page book entitled COVID-19: The Great Reset. The book puts forward the argument that the pandemic has proven absolutely necessary to immediately introduce a completely new world order.
No private ownership 2030
To get an idea of the background to the pope’s strange statement and what The Great Reset might mean, we can watch a video from the WEF entitled “8 predictions for the world 2030”.
COVID-19: THE GREAT RESET is 280 pages long and was already published on July 9, almost four months into the pandemic. Many have pointed out the improbability of writing such a comprehensive and complex book in such a short time. It tells us that the pandemic has shown the need to immediately introduce a new world order, which does not quite unexpectedly advocate a comprehensive “world government” and a merger of governments and multinational corporations to meet people’s needs. The incentive for for-profit large companies to pay out, for example, social benefits is, to say the least, vague. Instead of prioritizing profits, companies must now put “people at the center”. The book also proclaims that capitalism is obsolete and should instead be replaced by a new merger of capitalism and socialism, which is called “Stakeholder capitalism”. Critics call it communism in the form of a totalitarian global technocracy ruled by a small globalist elite using Big Tech (technology giants) and artificial intelligence (AI).
The first point there is as simple as it is remarkable. It states that “You will own nothing and you will be happy”. The point also explains that “Whatever you need, you will rent”. So no more ownership, but everything should be rented, including the clothes you wear on the body.
Can they really mean it? We visit WEF’s website for more information. There you can in a text, which paints the future they want to see in 2030, read the following:
Welcome to the year 2030. Welcome to my city – or should I say “our city”. I own nothing. I do not own a car. I do not own a house. I do not own any appliances or clothes.
The text on the WEF’s website also states that it is not only private ownership that will be abolished in the new utopia, or dystopia depending on who you ask, but there will also be no privacy. We can read there that:
Sometimes I can get annoyed by the fact that I have no real integrity. Nowhere can I go without being registered. I know that somewhere everything I do, think and dream about is recorded. I can only hope that no one will use it against me.
Many who hear it for the first time believe that it must be a conspiracy theorist’s crazy fantasies, but it is instead the richest and most powerful globalists on the planet who meet annually in Davos who present it in text and video form. System media has not reported on this and then the general public does not know these visions and agendas of these globalists.
Canadian Whistleblower has been right so far
Someone who claimed to be a Canadian MP and member of the Liberal Party of Canada (Canada’s Liberal Party led by Justin Trudeau, the country’s current Prime Minister) wrote an open letter on October 10 to warn the Canadian people that the pandemic is a smokescreen with the aim of introducing a far-reaching agenda where, among other things, people will be forced to renounce their right to private ownership. The Whistleblower did not reveal his name, but wrote that “I sit on several committee groups, but the information I provide comes from the Strategic Planning Committee, which is governed by the PMO [abbreviation for Prime Minister’s Office]”.
The anonymous MP then set out a secret roadmap established by Trudeau, which would be implemented regardless of their views or objections. He initially states that a second shutdown will be introduced in November, which will then be even tougher over Christmas and New Year. This is exactly what has happened in both North America and Europe. The whistleblower then indicates a frightening development in 2021, where, among other things, a third wave from a mutation called “COVID-21” – this time with real death rates – will be followed by an even harsher third shutdown in the first and second quarters of 2021.
Regarding the current economy and ownership, he indicates an impending “collapse of the supply chain, stock shortages, major economic instability” in the second quarter of 2021. Desperate people will then be offered the general basic income program, Universal Basic Income [UBI] in English. It can be mentioned here that Australia has already made it clear that only vaccinated citizens will be given welfare funds under a new law with the slogan “No jab, no pay”, “no syringe, nothing paid”.
In China, thousands of people in rural areas who voluntarily abandon their privately owned property and move to newly built apartments have been rewarded in various ways, while those who struggle are arrested and punished. Their houses are being demolished regardless of compliance.
POPULATION FROM THE RURAL AREA has begun in China. Here you can see Xiguozhuang, the first village in China’s eastern Shandong province, where residents saw their houses demolished at short notice. Fewer than a dozen homes remain along the village’s main road when the photo was taken in August. The Communist Party (CCP) forcibly expels farmers from their homes and farms. Liu, an affected farmer, recounts how he came home one day and discovered that local officials were preparing to demolish his house. When he called the police, they arrested him instead. Liu told the news channel NPR how about a hundred government officials surrounded his home before breaking down and arresting him, because he “resisted”. Liu’s privately owned property has now been demolished and apartment buildings await him and his neighbors. Photo: Amy Cheng / NPR
NEWLY BUILT MICRO APARTMENTS IN CHINA. Here you can see high-rise buildings with micro-apartments in Heze, in China’s eastern Shandong province, where Liu and his neighbors will be forcibly relocated when they are ready. The farmers are upset about the high rent they are being forced to have and will find it very difficult to afford. They are given the right to continue using the land, but they say that it will be impossible due to the long distance between the rental apartments they have been forced to and their land and that they do not have buildings left there that are necessary for the work. For several years, China has built many new cities, some of the largest in the world, which in most cases are still completely empty. This has been a mystery to many. Now that the CCP is starting to forcibly relocate people to the countryside and demolish their homes and farms, some are beginning to suspect that these “ghost towns” were built for Agenda 2030 and the massive expulsions from the countryside the globalists advocate (see NyT v50 / 2020).
Then the whistleblower describes in detail how the Canadians will be forced to renounce their ownership starting already this year. The anonymous Member writes:
Based on the roadmap provided, the Strategic Planning Committee was asked to design an effective way to change Canadians to meet unprecedented economic hardship. One that will change Canada and change the lives of Canadians forever. What we were told was that the federal government would offer Canadians a total debt write-off to compensate for what is essentially an economic collapse at the international level, where the federal government will offer Canadians to write off all their debts. Here’s how it works:
The federal government will offer to write off all personal debts (mortgages, loans, credit cards, etc.) where financing will be provided by the Canada [International Monetary Fund] IMF during what will be known as the World Debt Reset.
In exchange for accepting this total debt forgiveness, the individual will give up ownership of all property and assets forever. The individual will also need to agree to participate in the vaccination program for COVID-19 and COVID-21, which would allow the individual to travel and live indefinitely even during a complete shutdown (using a photo ID called Canada’s HealthPass).
With the pope’s statement, the Vatican and the Catholic Church have now officially taken the position that such possible plans do not run counter to the “Christian tradition”. Pope Francis was the one who, at the UN headquarters on September 25, 2015, the first visit ever by a pope, saw to it that all world leaders signed Agenda 2030.

A Merger Of Bersatu & UMNO...
A Merger Of Bersatu & UMNO....
Dr.M's Proxy Din Has Started
Creating A New Kleptocracy Order...
People who think politicians would not or should not play politics during the Coronavirus pandemic are a bunch of fools. They thought corrupt politicians would give a damn about an outbreak. In every crisis, there is an opportunity. It was absolutely hilarious when former premier Mahathir Mohamad said yesterday that there is no need for popularity contests during Covid-19 outbreak. As an old fox, he should know better than anyone else that now is the best time to play politics and undermine the incompetent and clueless Muhyiddin government, the same backdoor government whose legitimacy is in question, and the same traitor who had betrayed Mahathir himself by plotting with UMNO crooks and PAS extremists behind his back Right after a declaration of MCO (movement control order) on March 16, PM Muhyiddin Yassin wasted no time in playing politics when he chaired a special National Action Council meeting the next day with all the chief ministers – except those from the states controlled by opposition Pakatan Harapan, namely Selangor, Kedah, Negri Sembilan, Penang and Sabah. The comical stunts demonstrated by Health Minster Dr Adham Baba, whose “drink warm water to kill the bloody Coronavirus” formula had shocked the world’s top scientists, and Doraemon Minister Rina Mohd Harun, whose advice to all women to talk and giggle like Doraemon had taken the world by storm, were political moves to impress – but failed – upon the people. Even the authorities’ pussyfooting in hunting the remaining stubborn Tabligh religious members who refused to come forward to be tested for Covid-19 was a careful political move not to offend the sensitive Malay-Muslim vote bank. There’s a reason why Malaysia is still plagued with 3-digit new cases, despite having the fourth strictest movement control in Asean. Go figure! The permission for beer makers Heineken and Carlsberg to resume their operations, only to retract it, was a political stunt to divert attention from dozens of screw-ups by Muhyiddin’s half-past-six ministers. The creation of a post – Special Envoy to the Middle East – was a wasteful, yet a necessary political move to pacify PAS president Hadi Awang who did not get to become deputy prime minister.
Acting innocence in front of the TV and portraying a generous government by splashing truckloads of cash to the people was just a smokescreen. The prime minister knew that “cash” could easily blind gullible people. Behind the scene, Muhyiddin spends most of his time playing politics. And his true face is emerging – slowly but surely – as the lockdown enters the second month. All hell breaks loose after Islamist party PAS secretary-general and de-facto Law Minister Takiyuddin Hassan announced that all MPs (Members of Parliament) of the Perikatan Nasional backdoor government who currently do not hold positions in government will be made heads of GLCs (government linked companies). It means the scumbag politicians will rob more taxpayers’ money. GLCs are companies that have a primary commercial objective and in which the Malaysian Government has a direct controlling stake. In essence, they are business entities, not political parties. Exactly how could corrupt and extreme politicians add value to private or public companies? Still, some shameless politicians could justify such daylight robbery. Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki, a PAS central committee member with “IQ of a carrot”, claimed if all the MPs can be appointed as chairpersons of government linked companies, they can act as the people’s representatives to “monitor” those companies. Sure, what could possibly go wrong. The last time a politician was put in charge of Tabung Haji, he happily laundered RM139.3 million. Yes, we’re talking about UMNO warlord Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim (former Tabung Haji chairman) and his brother Abdul Latif, who had abused their position to enrich themselves with corruption and money laundering. Similarly, former Felcra chairman Bung Moktar and his wife Zizie Izette had taken bribes in a RM150 million investment in Public Mutual unit trust products. In fact, the Tabung Haji was so screwed up that by December 2015, Zeti Akhtar Aziz, Governor of Bank Negara (Central Bank) sent two letters to the chairman of the fund, Abdul Azeez and copied to the then-PM Najib Razak, who was also the Finance Minister – warning that the pilgrims’ fund was on the brink of collapse and a massive bail out by taxpayers may be required.
Will Azeez Rahim be re-elected as Chairman of TH ?
Thanks to the corrupt Barisan Nasional regime, which Muhyiddin is partnering now, taxpayers’ money to the tune of RM17.8 billion was used in a bail out exercise to rescue Tabung Haji, who had been illegally distributing “hibah” to depositors since 2014 and even cooked its books to justify paying extraordinary dividend in a business engagement called “get-rich-quick scheme“. The previous Pakatan Harapan government, which despicable Muhyiddin had toppled, had also rescued Felda with RM6.3 billion of taxpayers’ money due to crooks and thieves like former Felda chairman Isa Samad and former PM Najib Razak. In total, a whopping RM24 billion was spent to bailout Tabung Haji (Hajj Pilgrims Fund) and Felda alone. And do we need to start on 1MDB (1Malaysia Development Bhd) scandal, a sovereign wealth fund, which had accumulated a staggering debt of RM50.75 billion? Not only Najib appointed himself chairman of the board of advisers of 1MDB, he also paid himself RM120,000 per year as allowances – on top of plundering at least US$4.5 billion (RM19.5 billion), according to U.S. Department of Justice. But we know why Mr. Mahathir appears to have accepted Muhyiddin as his successor, despite his initial cries that he was incredibly sad with the betrayal of his most trusted lieutenant. The 94-year-old fox was the real puppet master who had given his blessing for Muhyiddin to topple his own government. The coup was to deny PM-in-waiting Anwar Ibrahim from taking over the leadership. In the same breath, Mahathir could use Muhyiddin as his proxy to tap into the 6-million support base of UMNO and PAS to retain power. On its own, Mahathir’s weak party Bersatu (PPBM) had only 25 seats in the 222-seat Parliament. Not only had the old man stolen 11 MPs from Anwar’s PKR party with the defection of Azmin Ali’s faction, Bersatu now controls PAS’ 18 MPs and UMNO’s 39 MPs.
The sudden migration of 11 MPs linked to Azmin, who was caught in a gay sex video scandal, has increased Bersatu’s “direct and indirect” number of MPs to 36. We had said this a dozen of times and we’ll say this again. Mahathir’s endgame is to merge his party with UMNO. And now Kadir Jasin, Mahathir’s media and communications adviser, has admitted that possibility. The idea of giving every UMNO and PAS MP (who had not been given a minister or a deputy minister post) a chairmanship in GLCs is clearly a despicable act of bribery to buy the loyalty of allies, especially UMNO warlords. With Bersatu’s strength ballooned to 36 MPs, it can now negotiate – on an equal level – with UMNO’s 39 MPs to form a new Malay party that possesses 75 MPs. Of course, now that his proxy Muhyiddin is in the driver’s seat, Mahathir could save the embarrassing moment of having to rub shoulders and sharing jokes and laughters with the same UMNO crooks whom he had despised and condemned earlier, such as Najib Razak, Zahid Hamidi, Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, Tengku Adnan, Bung Moktar. Whether he realizes it or not, the disgraceful PM Muhyiddin is building a “New Kleptocracy Order” – feeding all the power-hungry, immoral and corrupt politicians from UMNO and PAS with a bloated Cabinet of 71 ministers and chairmanships in GLCs. Mr. Kadir should stop insulting people’s intelligence by constantly trumpeting that Mahathir would not accept UMNO en bloc. Perhaps he should explain the speculation that his boss’ son, Mukhriz Mahathir, may not challenge the so-called traitor Muhyiddin for the presidency of Bersatu. If indeed Mahathir can’t stomach the prospect of the return of crooks like Najib Razak and Zahid Hamidi to power, should not Muhyiddin be denied his chance to retain his post uncontested in the upcoming Bersatu election? - FT Din,you agree GLC to be headed by MPs? Have you not learned from what you discovered in Felda,TH,MARA..etc.Politicians are not businessmen they are opportunist...
If Dr M had allowed the Police to proceed with their investigation and charge Azmin for the video tape, there would not be a back door Govt today! - - f/bk
PM riding on Covid-19 Pandemic
and the Economy...
I could have been wrong when I stated in my Sinar Harian column on Sunday that the toppling of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) Government by the Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin-led faction of the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) had nothing to do with the Covid-19 pandemic or the economy. It might be the case at the point when an uprising was mounted against Bersatu Chairman and the then Prime Minister, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, on February 23 but might no longer be the case now. Then the mantra for leaving PH was the survival of Bersatu. Muhyiddin and his supporters in the party’s Supreme Leadership Council (MPT) had argued vehemently that Bersatu would lose the coming General Elections if it remains in the PH. The reason being, the Malays could not accept the cooperation with the DAP. This, they said, was amply seen in the defeat of Bersatu’s candidates in the Semenyih state by-election in March 2019 and the Tanjung Piai parliamentary by-election the following November. Also the majority of the MPT members were not comfortable with the prospects of  Dr. Mahathir handling over power to the PKR leader, Anwar Ibrahim. But looking at Muhyiddin’s moves since being sworn in on March 2, it is clear that he is taking full advantage of the pandemic and the economic chaos to secure and strengthen his position as the Prime Minister.  He acknowledged the legitimacy deficit of his backdoor government or the government that came in through the roof, according to Pas President Abdul Hadi Awang. On March 27, when presenting his first Economic Stimulus Package, Muhyiddin openly admitted in a nationwide broadcast that “..this government may not be the government that you vote (sic) for.”
First of all, he used the pandemic as an excuse to postpone the sitting of Dewan Rakyat from March 9 to May 18. This would give him time to gather support should there be a vote of no confidence against him. Second, he created a large Cabinet assisted by an ever larger number of deputy ministers. He sacked board members and top executives of GLICs, GLCs and government agencies appointed by the PH Government to be replaced by his political allies starting with the appointment of the Machang Umno MP, Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub, as Chairman of the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB). Today, the Pas Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in-charge of law and parliamentary affairs, Takiyuddin Hassan, was quoted as saying that government MPs would be appointed to head GLCs. Muhyiddin has also been accepting all and sundry into Bersatu without consulting the MPT. The PKR MPs aligned to Mohamed Azmin Ali had reportedly been admitted into the party. The Movement Control Order (MCO) also gives him room to strengthen his position in Bersatu. All party activities, including divisional annual general meetings and leadership elections, are being postponed. He is being challenged for the post of President in the party’s first ever leadership elections. Dr Mahathir had already won the Chairman’s post uncontested. That would pose a problem for Muhyiddin as they are not seeing eye to eye on the coup and the en bloc acceptance of members into the party. The party is fractured. Among the original members, some are aligned with Dr Mahathir while others support Muhyiddin. Then there are the Umno MPs who crossed over after the 2018 GE and the Azmin faction of the PKR who allegedly joined after Muhyiddin became the PM.
Muhyiddin does not seem to care that he was once a senior member of the PH Government and was involved in the GLICs, GLCs and government agencies appointments. He is removing them at will. It appears that what matters to him is pacifying and satisfying his new friends from Umno and Pas. It does not matter if Umno is gaining an upper hand in his government and his own party, Bersatu, losses out – like losing the Johor Menteri Besar post to Umno. He does seem to mind that his publicity-hungry Umno ministers are stealing the limelight and, in the process, making mockery of his government. It would appear that these seasoned Umno Ministers are setting the narrative of the government. This leads to speculations that he may eventually merge Bersatu with Umno and used his position as PM to lead the merged entity. This could be a way for him to get rid of Dr Mahathir for good. The latter had said he would not accept Umno en bloc into Bersatu although he was willing to accept Umno leaders as individuals. It is very clear that Muhyiddin is leading the country back to the last two decades of Umno era when good governance, accountability and professionalism were not the priority. Nobody had seriously wanted to make Muhyiddin PM. Now that he had successfully made himself PM, why should he not consolidate his position and, hopefully, win the next GE. Or at the very least hangs on to the position for the rest of the parliamentary term. That’s what he is doing. He is buttressing his position by dispensing favours so that when the Parliament sits in May, the chances of him being defeated in a no confidence motion are minimised. He is also shrewdly making himself indispensable and unchallenged by not appointing a Deputy Prime Minister. Instead he appointed four Senior Ministers who are theoretically beholden to him and, therefore, are not likely to gang up to challenge him. - A.Kadir Jasin
Satu demi satu gelagat sang menteri menjadi bahan lelucon rakyat. Dari kisah Menteri Doremon, Menteri Teletubies, Menteri Air Suam, Menteri MEWA Air Kumbahan, Menteri Agih GLC, Menteri Rambut Longkang, Menteri SengHeng, dan pelbagai lagi gelagat yang memualkan. Retorik Islam Melayu hanya indah khabar. Setelah kuasa ditangan tiada apa lebihnya rejim baru ini dari sudut Melayu dan Islam. Malah satu demi satu para penunggang agama menjilat ludah dan kahak mereka tanpa segan silu. Industri arak terus dibela. Judi bertambah. Pemandu mabuk tetap sama walaupun waktu PKP. UEC diiktiraf. Sekolah vernakular berjalan macam biasa. Pembunuh Adib masih bebas. Hudud tak payah cerita laaa ... langsung hilang dari radar.
Tumblr media
JIka tak tahu tolong belajar, jangan nanti disorak-sorakan. - mso
Saudari Izzah, kalau nak buat kenyataan menjatuhkan air muka orang tolong jangan guna kad Mahasiswa Islam. Guna kad pertubuhan politik.  Awak boleh gelar masuh politik macam-macam, tapi bukan atas nama Islam. Sampai bila nak guna Islam untuk pecahbelahkan orang? Tak payah nak politik sangat dik. Belajar kasi habis dulu. Bahagiakan mak ayah kau. Capai dulu apa yang kau nak. Mahasiswa Islam tak perangai macam ni dik.  Sebelum kau jadi mahasiswa Islam, Anwar Ibrahim dah pegang Presiden ABIM dah dan Hadi Awang sebagai ahli ABIM. Kau lahir terus dapat nikmat dunia. Kau tak merasa lagi sakit politik ni. Bahagiakan mak ayah kau dulu tau. - f/bk

More new friends. Seriously wasn’t expecting Takara to get Sunny out at very tail end of December like they did. I’ve gotten used to third party stuff that doesn’t actually get released until a couple months (or more) after the initial estimated date. *lol* Oh, so many pennies.
Smokescreen takes 29 moves to transform. Sunstreaker takes 42 moves to transform. Yes, Sunny, you’re special, we get it. Which is why I forced you to wear the silly mask for a pic. <3
...I’m seriously feeling the need for MP Prowl, now. He may be the only one able to contain this burgeoning mess of trouble. Also, Chip went back into Sunny’s box because I know he’d disappear and get chewed to nothing by Miss Lucy.
Now, here’s some pics that didn’t fit into the photo group:
Sunstreaker’s door handles are painted.

He has moveable thumbs AND a wrist joint that allows his hand to move up and down. He’s got good movement in the ankles, too.

Mid-transformation, Sunny looks like a damn frog. XD

Episode 6: Democracy vs Demagoguery
In the words of Samwise Gamgee: Well, I’m back. Having (sort of) taken a couple of weeks off to watch with some interest the fallout from the June 8th General Election, I thought I’d once again get my thoughts in order. I see no real need to continue the autopsy on the campaign and result; I think by now it’s been established beyond much doubt that the Conservatives ran an extremely negative, scattered and ultimately ineffective campaign, which saw them lose their majority in the Commons. A hung parliament does present a new set of challenges, but safe to say on June 9th I couldn’t get the smile off my face.
At the time of writing, the ink on the contract for the DUP ‘confidence and supply’ arrangement is still wet and I suspect there are more twists and turns to come on that issue. In the meantime, however, I wanted to return to a topic that I planned to discuss before the election; democracy itself, and the Tories’ attitude towards it.
In May of 2016, Channel 4 news broke a story regarding the investigation of over two dozen Conservative MPs, alleged to have committed electoral fraud during the General Election in 2015 (by election victories in 2014 also came under suspicion, but had reached their statute of limitations and could not be investigated). The allegations largely related to the allocation of spending to their national campaign, despite the costs pretty clearly having been related to local spending; this was indeed confirmed by two whistleblowers who had campaigned for specific local candidates, which the Conservative party denied was the case. This was in breach of Electoral Commission spending rules and constituted electoral fraud.
The Conservatives, for their part, admitted that there may have been some ‘accounting errors’. Whether true or not, these ‘accounting errors’ occurred in two dozen marginal seats, and gave the Tories a wafer thin majority of 12 in the Commons. The ‘errors’ therefore potentially had a massive impact on the makeup of the government, as well as any legislation passed by them in that period, including everything related to the EU referendum and its result.
As an aside, countless Tory MPs and ministers have stood at the dispatch box and accused Labour of being careless with the nation’s finances innumerable times over the last decade. This already nonsensical claim looks more laughable than ever given that by their own admission, they are unable to keep track of their OWN finances, let alone the UK purse.
So desperate were the Tories to avoid such scrutiny that Craig Mackinlay, MP for South Thanet (a marginal seat that looked very much in danger of being lost to a huge surge from then UKIP leader Nigel Farage), went to court in an attempt to block an extension being granted to police conducting the investigation into the spending around his local campaign. The High Court ruled that there was ‘significant public interest’ in the case and rejected the attempt. The week before the 2017 election the Crown Prosecution Service confirmed they were charging Mackinlay and his election agent; the case is still ongoing. Furthermore, the Electoral Commission actually had to take the Conservative Party to the High Court to even get them to release the documentation required to investigate.
One can only wonder what Mackinlay and the wider Party’s motivation was for attempting to block the investigation. I’m sure many of his Conservative colleagues including Tory MP Richard Graham and former Tory leader William Hague would be equally bemused, given that they have repeatedly stated ‘if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear’ as justification for bringing in ever more authoritarian surveillance legislation. It would take a huge amount of doublethink to not see the inherent contradiction between the same party telling ordinary citizens ‘nothing to hide, nothing to fear’ whilst instructing a legal team to attempt to block a police investigation into their spending.
Ultimately, the Conservatives were fined a record £70,000 by the Electoral Commission for breaching spending rules. Criminal charges were only avoided in a bizarre case of ignorance of the law inexplicably excusing the responsible parties, a contradiction of one of the most basic principles of the legal system, as explained by Craig Murray. In any case, while proving a charge of corruption would likely have been difficult, proving the lesser charge of failing to provide an accurate return was surely within reach.
Part of my motivation for writing this blog at this stage was that Channel 4 News have followed up with some further brilliant investigative journalism relating to the Conservatives’ campaigning for the recent 2017 election. Rather than summarise, I would suggest taking the time to watch the short report itself.  There is no doubt in my mind that the Conservatives have gone to great lengths to conceal their identity in order to canvas illegally, including for specific candidates on election day itself. I will be paying close attention to this case and the result, as well as the case of Craig Mackinlay. I suspect the truth is that the Party simply doesn’t care – in their verdict, the Electoral Commission commented:
‘There is a risk that some political parties might come to view the payment of these fines as a cost of doing business; the Commission therefore needs to be able to impose sanctions that are proportionate to the levels of spending now routinely handled by parties and campaigners’
For a party that received over £12 million in donations in a one month period in the run up to the election (more than all other parties combined), even record breaking fines of £70,000 are just a drop in the ocean. I don’t think it’s at all a stretch to reach the conclusion that losing several thousand pounds in fines is considered a tiny price to pay for picking up a number of marginal seats and making their agenda of public service cuts, privatisation and cronyism easier to enact.
But it’s not just the Tories’ ‘creative accounting’ that lays bare their disdain for democracy. Take the Conservatives’ penchant for filibustering (talking nonstop for so long that time runs out and no vote is taken) in the House of Commons to avoid proposed legislation even being enacted. I will preface this by conceding that this is not a tactic uniquely reserved for Conservative MPs, but it has certainly become their party trick within the last decade. Regular offenders include Jacob Rees-Mogg and the utterly vile Philip Davies, who among other things has talked out bills to abolish hospital car park charges for carers, to introduce first aid into primary schools, to reverse the privatisation of the NHS and to ban the use of wild animals in circuses. As well as helping to enhance the reputation as the ‘nasty party’ by voting down completely uncontroversial bills with huge amounts of public support, this shows utter contempt for the parliamentary process, using a procedural loophole in order to prevent even the discussion of policies that the Tories don’t want to bring in.
After the 2015 election, the Conservatives announced that they would be reducing ‘short money’ payments (money given to opposition parties in order to assist them in providing effective opposition) by 19%. Again, even if the Conservatives ended up in opposition, this would affect them far less due to their army of wealthy donors.
The reason given was ‘cutting the cost of politics’, a seemingly noble cause which does nonetheless beg the question of why in David Cameron’s seven years in government, he felt it necessary to create 244 new Lords, flooding the second (unelected) chamber with new Conservative peers (60% appointed were Conservatives; by contrast, 43% appointed by Blair were Labour peers),   each of which can claim a daily attendance allowance of £300, plus travel expenses. The average peer is reported to cost the UK £83,000 a year; Cameron’s 244 new Lords therefore likely cost somewhere in the region of £20 million, eclipsing the reduction in Short Money. As in their agenda generally, cost cutting was being used as a smokescreen – this time for making the democratic process tougher for their opposition and consolidating their own power.
The Conservatives are the first to pay lip service to democracy when it suits their argument; their co-opting of the phrase ‘the will of the people’ within the last year is testament to that. But over the last two elections (at least) they have shown repeatedly that the rules that govern it do not apply to them. They seek to squash opposition and dissent, both in parliament and outside of it; Andrea Leadsom’s call for media outlets to be ‘more patriotic’ last week was truly sinister and is the sort of thing you would expect to hear in totalitarian states.
Democracy is filled with flaws; every country’s version has their own faults and challenges. But press being able to scrutinise government, and elections being contested on a level playing field, are core to a democratic nation. The Conservatives seek to flout and oppose these most basic of concepts wherever they can. Don’t vote Conservative #dvc
