i want to read tomgreg fic but the few i've skimmed are way too uncharacteristically fluffy for my liking.......i read a couple that were promising and captured their dynamic well up until the point physical stuff began to happen and all the cringe bizarre balls to the walls insane shit that makes tomgreg so enticing in canon flew out the window. Like tomgreg can still have their batshit weird toxic thing going on when they fuck they dont have to immediately soften up or necessarily enjoy it . This is my truth 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️

If i had to pick (and lbr you do) between either roman or tomgreg being canonically gay and explored in the series id pick roman 100%. Tomgreg going canon would set gay rights back by like 40 years
#like its still a big tv show they can only have one gay person on it#succ#i think tomgreg will always be reaching new insane heights of whatever the fucknis wrong with them#but roman. roman.#the gerri thing was completely a mommy issues deal#roman ‘for reasons of … we dont know why i cant pee next to other men’ roy#i enjoy watching his torment and quite frankly i cant think of anything that would turn him inside out with misery#quite like the slow tortuous realization that everything his father is disgusted by in him#are the things that make him feel happy and at peace and loved#i hope his interactions with mattson are confusing and scary and addicting and he keeps going back#mencken works too but im sorry that more boring.2 me. ohhh hes into it bc facism bad but he likes when thing bad we get it.#thats the same thing hes been doing tho#now imagine: rome but hes in a relationship with someone whos a little fascinated by him#this dettached deadeyed weirdo who doesnt roll his eyes when he speaks#and instead seems to listen to every word and remember what he says#and who maybe. just maybe. even cares about him#like mattson would definitely treat him like a bug under glass but roman ‘dog cage and chocolatte cake’ roy#would easily mistake that for love#idk not articulating it well. might write a fic abt it. we’ll see#tomgreg canon truthers btw no hate i lov the ship sorry if this shows up in the tag#but theyre definitely going to be in weird limbo forever & ever#i think at best tomgreg will become canon? (audible question mark)#i think they could fuck nasty and weird on screen and tom would start gaslighting greg into thinking it didnt happen#because nothing like. nice or good happens in the show its about misery#i want tomgreg to stay on ao3 so i can read abt tom healing after leaving waystar#anyways!#chatter

okay just some brief thoughts about the finale (the most stressful episode of the season for me cuz i didn't even see a half spoiler and literally had no idea what was gonna happen lol):
pretty much knew this was where it was headed. the entire show is about kendall failing so yeah. we knew
tbh when i found out what this season was gonna be about i hoped from the beginning that the siblings would get out. not even like at the beginning when they were out but still making moves - like completely out, like the advice Ken gave to Naomi. but I didn't want it to happen like that lol
how everything ended up feels right. Tom feels like the right person and I've thought that for a while but now i finally know why - he's the character with the least depth. it's like ken said, it's a terrible job and it will make you miserable (see: Logan) but Tom is so simple, he just wants to people please and make money. it's like Roman said, it's all bullshit, and Tom is the most bullshitty of them all, so he's perfect. Any of the siblings would have made it way too complicated and fucked it up. Tom is the representation of bullshit corporate America.
Shiv did what she had to for herself and her baby. I don't care what anyone else says, that is the reason. She knew that Ken would eventually fuck her again, and who knows if she could repair things with Tom. But with Tom she'd either be out and safe, or right hand woman and safe. That whole scene at the end was just her self justification and a way to provoke Ken to prove that he can't do it.

i dont really look at succession posts or anything so i dont know if this is controversial, but in my mind tomgreg should have straight (or not romantically interested in tom) greg. tom should love and desire greg Carnally but greg is there for the money/power/connection and because tom is his only reliable source for that. my reasons are 1) it is the funniest option 2) there should be no chance of happy relationships on the spoiled dysfunctional rich people show 3) i find it more compelling.

the interim+s4 tomgreg dynamic developing from tom essentially symbolically marrying greg through buying greg's soul but still hanging onto his literal, rotting marriage, and therefore unable to fulfill his relationship with greg... filling in the negative space with meaningless proxy-sex (that doesn't even progress to sex anyway) ie: going back to an early 2000s-esque era of toxic-masculine-homoeroticism that they'd never actually had before, regularly getting drunk together and saying shit he doesn't mean - just to fill the space - about scoping out ladies, getting notches in the chart, being the disgusting brothers... all of it literally just being things that tom is saying and not feeling and not realizing that greg doesn't know that he's not feeling it, greg is operating as though it's real, greg is in fact using this tool of homoeroticism with not just more enthusiasm but more intuition than tom is bc he will take absolutely anything he can from tom... he will take some offhanded comment about a party being "titty town" and go to all this effort to make it so, for tom, so that they can just be sexual together in the same vicinity.... and neither of them are actually having sex at all! they're moving through the most frustrating limbo of being so so close but with no release, not with each other because tom's marriage remains a wall and also not outside of each other because they don't actually want anyone but each other...... they're like literally not capable of fulfilling desire with anyone else but they also can't be together bc of the illusion they've created about being with other people. but you know you KNOW that now that tom's got the chair and he brought greg with him, and he's successfully got a vaccuum seal on his rotting marriage, that the direction that they've been angled toward these past months with all these walls in the way - being truly alone together, no caveats, no need for a proxy, no negative space, just them and everything that they need from each other spilling out between them... is right around the fucking corner.

Toxic Sludge Yaoi Tournament: Tomgreg (Succession) Vs Tyler Durden/Narrator (Fight Club)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(No images provided. Vote for whichever you like.)
Propaganda under cut. Note: spoilers for these medias may be below.
Tomgreg propaganda
"Tom is married to Greg's rich cousin and is also Greg's boss. As all Succession characters, they are terrible people. Tom immediately takes Greg under his wing because finally there's someone beneath him on the pecking order and proceeds to playfully and lovingly mistreat the daylights out of him. Tom constantly switches between humiliating and criticizing Greg with great enjoyment and treating him as his protege, and he never fails to make homoerotic insinuations while doing so. Not only does he ask Greg to kiss him several times, only to turn back around and tell him he's joking, he also compares himself to Nero and Greg to Sporus, Nero's slave whom he castrated and then married. They double cross and betray each other at least five times over the course of the show and Tom takes out all his frustrations with other people on Greg (there's a memorable scene where he pelts him with water bottles) but they always keep coming back to each other because they're the closest to a healthy emotional connection each one of them has. The end of the show has Tom saving Greg from being fired and marking him as his with a sticker he was supposed to use to mark what furniture he wanted from his dead father in law's home."
Tyler Durden/Narrator propaganda
"Where to begin? They’re literally the archetypal toxic yaoi. That burning kiss on the back of the hand, the starting a cult, the getting a whole load of guys to try to destroy the world. The Narrator has no identity, and Tyler Durden is everything, consuming the Narrator completely. They deserve to win. To finish this off, a few quotes from the Narrator about his relationship with Tyler: “I love everything about Tyler Durden, his courage and his smarts. His nerve. Tyler is funny and charming and forceful and independent, and men look up to him and expect him to change their world. Tyler is capable and free, and I am not.” “We have sort of a triangle thing going here. I want Tyler. Tyler wants Marla. Marla wants me. I don’t want Marla, and Tyler doesn’t want me around, not anymore. This isn’t about love as in caring. This is about property as in ownership.” “Tyler tilts the can of lye an inch above the shining wet kiss on the back of my hand. “This is a chemical burn,” Tyler says, “and it will hurt worse than you’ve ever been burned. Worse than a hundred cigarettes.”” And another quote from the author: “On a plane back to Portland, an airline flight attendant leaned close and asked me to tell him the truth. His theory was the book wasn’t really about fighting at all. He insisted it was really about gay men watching one another fuck in public steambaths. I told him, yeah, what the hell.”"

“in the alternate universe where eps 8-9-10 didn’t get rewritten”
Wait, rewritten how?? May I ask? Should I?
i wrote way too much sorry
they were rewritten to include shiv being pregnant, which hadn't been written into the season until that point. everything in 8-9-10 relating to shiv's pregnancy was an extremely hasty last minute addition, which is why it made no damn sense narratively when they dropped it into the beginning of 4.04, in a scene they filmed towards the end of shooting. every person who said in the interim between s3 and s4, shiv is not fucking pregnant, was in fact entirely correct, and they didn't plan to write it at all and it sticks out like a sore thumb in terms of succession's otherwise quite delicate plotting. which is especially disappointing given the huge payoff that paying close attention had during s3.
so, it scuppered their plot big time, but they just about clawed it together, if you ignore like. every emotional beat between episodes 1-7 lol. which is a real shame! i'm sure jesse had good intentions. but yeah, that's why they were rewritten. i think 8 and 10 weren't even rewritten to a substantial degree, but 9 is hanging by a thread in terms of cohesion - it's the only episode where they had any time to put 'oh shiv is also having a baby' scenes in, and reading the scripts it's just so clear that other stuff not only hit the cutting room floor but got swept away completely. connor is pretty much a non-entity after 4.08, for instance.
as for tom and greg (and shiv and matsson, and greg and matsson, and that whole mess of a love square) i think reading between the lines there are things missing. i can't say for sure what they were, but the script books were highly edited for publication, and no way is jesse ever going to personally give me a straight answer to the question 'what was shiv's actual arc in s4, before it became She Is Pregnant', or 'why did you prevaricate in the edit on tomgreg and tomshiv to the detriment of both, but mostly at the expense of tom, which felt really weird while watching the season because where the fuck did he go'. and yet, i think the denouement for both was really fucking good. stuck the landing despite taking a bizarre, last minute route there.
but yeah, if tom and greg did bang, it was 4.09. because the final scene for tom and shiv in 4.09 > first scene for tom and shiv in 4.10 makes very very little sense for either of them. it's like something else happened for tom at the end of 4.09 than what we saw. because the beginning of the finale he's with greg like yeah we're divorcing byeeeeee, and like wouldn't that have a lot more weight if he'd done anything other than be so eepy at logan's wake, while greg was crawling on his knees for tom to mencken and had that deleted scene with ewan. wouldn't greg almost betraying tom in the finale be higher stakes if they'd slept together, wouldn't it be more obvious and devastating that tom invites shiv into the car because she's suddenly more useful as his wife because of the decision she made at the vote... i simply think it would have been delicious.
huge caveat that this is just my thoughts. just my lil ol theories and thots. i read scripts and think about this stuff alot and have kept an eye on behind the scenes shenanigans. maybe shiv slept with matsson instead! maybe greg did! idk! but there are hanging threads that were snipped imo, rather than wonky plotting from the outset.

Not to be “here’s how tomgreg can still win!” on main but...
I do think it’s plausible that there will be some reveal in regards to them. Not that they’re sleeping with each other (although a girl can dream), more like they’re up to something. That no matter how it might look at any point for the last four episodes, their alliance is rock solid. That they’re actually very transparent with each other and the moves they make are done in concert or at least with the other’s knowledge. We can already surmise this is going on when the audience doesn’t explicitly see it: Greg learns about the paper found in Logan’s safe and then a few scenes later Tom says he knows about it. We can fill in the blanks where Greg went running to tell Tom about this without having to be shown.  Perhaps we don’t have a full picture of whatever it is their agenda is, and that’s why we’re only getting to see them when they are lurking in public, and not when they are speaking frankly in private.
Actually regardless of what happens I think this is the primary reason for the lack of tomgreg scenes. At the end of season three Greg more or less asks Tom if their partnership can be a little more egalitarian and Tom says yes and then...it is. Tom and Greg are just BFFs (business friends forever) now, so the scenes between them are cut in favor of other scenes that give us new information or focus on relationships that are shifting. There’s nowhere to go with them in this state other than a) destroy their relationship (anything can happen in four hours of course, but it would be pretty shoddy writing to de-emphasize a relationship if it’s dissolution is meant to  be a significant plot beat)  or b) their relationship results in some scheme that results in Plot Things happening, hence them being in the background until a reveal.
Usually I’d say that this kind of thing isn’t  Succession’s style. The show’s writing doesn’t really rely on twists or hidden information, buuuut they have been playing with “twists” this season a bit (the timing of Logan’s death; Shiv’s pregnancy) and there was even a few things last season (Rex Hendon is a divorce lawyer; what exactly Tom has in mind re: Logan vs. siblings is opaque until the very last scene). Based on some things cast have said in combination with all the weird looks this season-- Shiv looks at Tom when he’s  with Greg, Greg’s always seems to be carefully watching Tom, etc---seriously  these three specifically seem to always be looking at each other in a way that feels significant, I think maybe something could go down.
....Or everything I said is pure cope and I’m delusional. That’s also a possibility.

With a new season airing I figured I would do a lil post of tomgreg fics I’ve written that I’m kind of proud of, just for funsies 🙈 I've loved being part of this fandom, and I'm hoping to contribute even more as the final season plays out :) I have two things half finished right now, so I guess we'll see.
I love to make friends (I know I'm so laaame shut upppp) and talk about succession so if you see this feel free to reach out here or on Twitter :) 💜
Hope you enjoy! Let me know if you did ahhh...
~
Truth or Dare Rating: E Probably my magnum opus lol. Tom & Greg play an insane game of truth or dare that drastically alters their relationship and throws everything they know into question. I love when Tom’s a little insane, and he is definitely insane in this (in a hopefully canon-typical way at least?!).
Landslide Rating: E A bit of a character study on Tom and his complex and layered emotions. He goes on a bit of a journey in this fic, trying to figure out how to be the most authentic version of himself after repressing it for so long (with Greg being enduringly patient).
Little lies Rating: T The blossoming of Tom & Greg’s relationship through the eyes of Shiv. I loved writing this so much that I made it into a mini series.
For what it’s worth Rating: E Tom propositions Greg over dinner and it goes better than he expects. The dialogue is some of the best I’ve written, I think, which isn't bad considering I'd watched like 5 episodes of Succession when I wrote it (plus about a million tomgreg fancams :'))
Pictures of the past Rating: E Wrote this for my iconic pal @chasingbodies birthday, who actually came up w the idea in the first place. Tom’s friend from college unearths pics of him from his youth and Greg kind of becomes obsessed with seeing them. Such a fun concept, Ana has the best prompts.
The Hirsch Foundation for Waifs and Strays Rating: T Throwing this in here because it’s just silly and cute. When I’m sad I write the softest nonsense and I was so sad when I wrote this 🫣 the plot is essentially ‘Greg can’t stop adopting dogs, and Tom let’s it happen bc he’s in love with Greg’
Surreal, but nice Rating: E Notting Hill AU. Ewan gives Greg his aging bookstore as an early inheritance, and in attempting to run it he meets mega famous actor Tom Wambsgans, who develops an interest in him 🤭 it’s literally a reimagining of the movie Notting Hill, which I highly recommend if you haven’t seen it. (Though I don't think you need to have seen it to enjoy this, it's just like if tomgreg were a romcom)
Microfics Rating: Varied An ongoing project that I have neglected of late, but just a home for drabbles that I’ve written to submitted prompts! You can see a chapter-by-chapter list of prompts here.
~
I’ve written quite a few tomgreg fics since I started posting 12 months ago, and you can find them here if you like! I always welcome prompts, though there’s no guarantee I’ll fill them. I have a bit of a list I’m working through though so… you never know :)

It's funny because after season 3, I made a post, that was reasonably popular with the Tomgreg girlies, about how Tomgreg could become (homophobically) canon. About how Greg would be attempting to make Tom jealous with his girlfriend of the week (That was the only bit of the post that still checks out tbh) which leads to Tom sleeping with Greg's girlfriend as it's the closest he can get to sleeping with Greg. Anyway when Greg found out I said that Greg would betray Tom to the Roy siblings (and Shiv would deliver the blow to Tom that Greg betrayed him) The betrayal leads to Tom loosing everything which leads to a massive physical fight between Tom and Greg, and the fight leads them to aggressively making out/fucking nasty. But my hiatus idea has gone to dust in just two episodes because Greg is such a sick puppy in season 4 that if he found out that Tom had slept with his girlfriend, he'd be so turned on that he wouldn't even be mad at Tom and he'd probably suggest to his girlfriend that they all have a threesome (and she'd dump him)

tomgreg dependent on stress not tomshiv
okay so lil headcannon theory: thinking about how the idea that 'tomgreg only works when tom has someone to take his shiv-related aggression out on' doesn't seem to fully capture their relationship. tom being willing to go to prison for greg, greg not leaking whatever was in the logistics folder, tom taking the fall for boar on the floor, etc. etc.
i'm wondering if their relationship materializes, less out of tom's relationship to shiv and more out of tom and greg's relationship to environmental stressors. when everything's 'good,' their interactions are pretty surface level and or minimal, right? i mean, no reason to scheme, black mail, throw water bottles if there aren't any active shooters, corporate scandals, congressional hearings, etc. etc. but when things are bad? they pull together like magnets. they're the only two who really get what its like to be in that state of being the 'first to go' in the event of a huge stressor/threat to waystar as 'non roy' members of the roy family.
it's well documented that heightened levels of emotional arousal under stressful situations--which involves releasing adrenal into the body--increases the romantic attraction between two individuals. this certainly makes sense in the context of tom and greg's homoerotic build-up in s2/s3. the cruises scandal and threat of going to prison hit their stress response systems like a fucking bullet train (no pun intended). greg's getting a haircut even though he didn't need one because it felt 'soothing,' and the clear, physical and verbal manifestations of anxiety pre- and post- appearing before congress. not to mention tom constantly bringing up the prison blogs with his big sad eyes, months of fear and worry and dysregulation and expectation leading up to the culminating moment of emotional release: learning that he wouldn't be going to prison, waltzing into greg's office, flipping his desk over, beating his chest on top of the filing cabinets, pulling greg into a post-adrenal-fueled haze of a forehead kiss, etc.
s3 already established that tom goes to greg at the height of his emotional dysregulation, and s4 continues to confirm it. logan suddenly and unexpectedly dying? an extremely traumatic/emotional stressor, and tom responds by calling greg? solidifying him not only tom's number one confidant but the person he goes to first when his adrenaline's spiked by stress.
in the first couple of episodes, they didn't have a whole lot of reason to be stressed. they're at logan's birthday party, tom's getting a divorce, pretty standard family dysfunction. but what do we have here, episode three and four? now their sole protector is dead and the new guy, mattson has apparently no qualms about a total and immediate corporate restructure. sure, tom and greg aren't on the kill list for now, but what's actually standing in between them and a total loss of control? i don't know about you but the slow build up of uncertainty/stress within the plot across 4.01-4.04 seems like some pretty solid grounds for some late season romantic ~bonding!~ if you ask me :)

Thinking about Greg's little dance as he was shredding the cruises documents, maybe he does that whenever he's focusing on a task really hard? Like maybe one morning after he and Tom have finally started sleeping together, he wakes up before Tom and decides to make breakfast
Tom wakes up to an empty bed and has a minor freak out but then he smells coffee, and he goes to find Greg in his pajamas still, humming and doing his dumb little dance in the kitchen, frying eggs and bacon and chopping fruit, "Greg is chopping it up 🎶" and all 🥺 and god, Tom can't handle it. Greg looks so dumb and ridiculous and adorable, Tom can't believe he gets to have this??
Greg doesn't notice him before Tom grabs him and attacks him with kisses and he's embarrassed and confused at first - but he ends up blushing and laughing between kisses to his lips, cheeks, forehead, the tip of his nose - until Tom cages him against the counter and pulls him hard against him and laughter turns into moans - until they burn the eggs and have to start breakfast all over again :')
Just. Tomgreg and domestic mornings 🥺🥺
GOD that's soooo fucking precious i can't breaaaathe djglwkglwkg yeah yeah yeah like. tom just loves everything about greg, loves his sweet little behaviours like that, loves the way he talks, his voice, how he presents himself, he finds it all so endearing and greg is like. so used to being told to shut up, to go away, to take his weirdness someplace else but tom just. cherishes it and relishes it every time it comes out. [greg does the same for him in kind like. these two are so used to being Too Much but they are never Too Much with each other you ever sob]
and hhhhfhnnn yyyyy tom like. can't resist getting handsy with greg like he is so in love and happy and content and finds greg sexy as hell in all ways, no way he can't come onto him and. yeah the breakfast burns and they gotta start again, this time with tom helping and embellishing so it's super delicious and more of a fanciful breakfast. eeee
yeah.... yeah. domestic tomgreg is my lifeeee ugh
