After pulling the Master Sword from its pedestal something unexpected happens: Link falls asleep for 7 years. As he opened the sacred room in the Temple of Time, Ganon is now able to get his hands onto the object that constitutes the very foundation of the Hyrule Kingdom: the Triforce. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When he wakes up, Link is older, stronger and worthy of the title “The Hero of Time”. His main goal now is to defeat all evil and darkness that have infested Hyrule, its greatest representative being Ganondorf, who is living in the castle he took for himself.

Biggoron Sword

n the Water Temple still, Link now has to conquer himself in a fight against Dark Link. It is one of the most memorable moments of the game, even if it’s only a mini-boss battle. If you try to use only the Master Sword, this fight is really hard. However, if the Hero of Time did the side quest to get the Biggoron Sword, which is the strongest weapon, this fight becomes but an easy feat. ⠀⠀⠀���⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is my personal favorite. There are tons of Link vs Dark Link fanart out there, so I tried doing something different and it paid off.

Long-Hookshot / Zora’s Tunic / Iron Boots

Link discovers that the entire Zora’s domain has been frozen. After going on a quest to unfreeze its King, he acquires the Iron Boots that allow him to sink down to the bottom of any lake and explore. However, to do that without drowning our hero must wear Zora’s Tunic. This grants him access to the hardest dungeon of the game: The Water Temple. There, the Hookshot is also used to get to high places Link can’t on his own. Another bottom-down perspective underwater illustration. The composition and color management was easier than the one with young Link diving into the lake.

Child Era: All Items 

This one is the heart of the project. The idea that drove me was: “How would it be if Link carried all items through his journey?” I’m aware there is a lot of fanart online tackling this very concept, but I wanted to express the way I thought it would be. My approach is not 100% perfect or practical, but it was very fun to develop.

This shield is way too big for Young Link. In order to defend himself, Link must squat with the shield on his back. Given its size, it’ll cover his entire body. Sadly, it is useful in a single location of the game and is barely effective against big enemies. (When he is a child). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This drawing came effortlessly. After beating all dungeons and collecting all medallions from the temple guardians, Link must go to Ganon’s castle to fight the final battle! Ganondorf has taken Zelda as a hostage and has the Triforce of Power working on his favor! The guardians aid The Hero of Time on his quest, creating a bridge to the castle. Can our hero succeed on his final task? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The concept of thi illustration was rather complex to execute. I redid the composition a few times to achieve this result. I don’t know if all the effort was worth it, but I hope you like it!

Link can already swim and dive, but by using Zora’s scales he is able to go even deeper! There are lots of secrets and important items underwater. This means this item is a must! You can upgrade the scales two times. The first in a dive mini-game in Zora’s Domain. The second in a fishing house on Lake Hylia. The latter one happens when Link is older.

I’m still exploring perspective, however, this time I’ve gotten an extra challenge: painting underwater lighting. In the end, by using proper reference, I managed to finish it.

Similarly to the Goron’s Bracelet when he was a child, these Gauntlets increase Links strength and capability of lifting heavy objects, now as an adult. The silver ones can be found at the Spirit Temple, while the gold upgrade is obtained at Ganon’s Castle, one of the final stages of the game. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I never dew a lifting pose before, so I asked for the help of a friend and was satisfied with the end result.

Ocarina of Time / Spiritual Stones: Fire / Forest / Water

There are three spiritual stones, Link gets each of them by finishing a dungeon. He must collect them to open the path to the Temple of Time, where he is able to put his hands on the ultimate weapon to fight Ganondorf: The Master Sword! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ On his way to the temple, Link is surprised by Zelda riding a horse with her guardian Impa. Our hero realizes they were fleeing from Ganondorf, which appears right in front of him. Link gets knocked out, but not before Zelda throws him the most important item in the whole game: The Ocarina of Time. It is by playing the song of time on the Ocarina together with the Spiritual Stones that Link is able to get the Master Sword. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This time I won’t say anything and just let the piece sink in. How do you guys feel about this one?

Link now finds himself at the last dungeon, the Spirit Temple. The puzzles here revolve around the use of sunlight, thus to direct the light to the right spots, Link will need the Mirror Shield! As this shield does also absorb magical energy, it is also useful against the dungeon’s boss. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I did this piece while hanging out with some friends on Discord. It was a lovely moment to have the art flowing while also having a good time talking to people. I am fond of the memories associated with this illustration.

Megaton Hammer / Goron Tunic

Ganondorf has captured all Gorons in order to feed them to the dragon in the Fire Temple, so The Hero of Time must save them. In order to go there without dying from a heatstroke, Link must get the Goron Tunic, which is fireproof. When Link finishes exploring the dungeon, he gets the legendary Megaton Hammer, which is used to defeat the ancient dragon Volvagia. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is another amazingly deigned dungeon with a nice boss battle. When you know all the lore, it is also very immersive.

When Link has to solve puzzles in the dungeon lighting a torch is the key to discover what awaits him! But be careful, for, if you keep it out too long, the stick will burnout completely! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I Had some hard times illustrating this piece. Never before had I painted an environment like that. I’ve gotta study more and keep improving. Nonetheless, I’m satisfied.

A child again, Link has to play the Song of Storms at Kakariko Village to empty a well, revealing a short dungeon. There, our Hero of Time must prove his courage if he is to come out alive! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Another illustration with a dark mood. It was difficult at the beginning, but receiving a lot of feedback from some friends (@geda.arte) made things improve. I can’t thank y’all enough.

Farore’s Wind / Din’s Fire / Nayru’s Love

Equipped with the proper items, Link is able to get to the Fairy Fountains. In each one, playing the song “Zelda’s Lullaby” on the Ocarina, will summon a Great Fairy that will give him an upgrade. The magic abilities and special powers gained this way make dominating dungeons an easier task . ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Are all the illustrations easy to understand? I don’t intend to explain all the plot of the game trough my drawings, but I hope that even if not everything is here, the drawings are still enjoyable to follow along with.
