Seeing the crit of the pjo show makes me a little glad that I haven't watched it but I do know eventually I want to give it a chance. What mainly worries me is the pacing tbh and some of the important details that Rick claimed "doesn't matter" like them missing the summer solstice deadline. No hate AT ALL to the actors just everything on the technical side is what's causing me and other people to side eye the series

I think its rather bazaar that Luraus (sorry if i spelt his name wrong;;) would rather watch his fellow god members die (and literally make it rain jjshe) than help.. after that he continued watching mariza as if he just secretly knows everything that goes on. It just makes me wonder how often is he actually willing to lend a genuine hand to his companions.. or if he feels empathetic enough to help rather than just being there when the mood is light. Very interesting character i say. love ur writting a bunch hyperfixation has really rapped me in you pada and shands characters 💜

In all honesty Mariza/Indra and Larus kinda have equal say over severe storms on the ocean, it's a bit of a symbiosis for that. They fuel each other. Indra was so angry that she kinda pulled a storm together and Larus was like "oh shit cool beans a storm". It wasn't until later he realized what all that was really.

And I think Larus is way more the "will listen to your problems and tease you about them but somehow give you some advice that's actually helpful and then insult you some more."

on the subject of ocean things for the sake of, well, ocean things!

i freaking love the ocean. so fucking much. given the chance and promises of safety (that’s the hard part isn’t it) I would be down there in a heartbeat exploring realms never seen before.

i got on the subject a couple days ago with a friend when he asked me if I’d ever skydive were i impervious to harm. I shrugged and said “eh” but that I’d be far more interested in going underwater. he was curious so we discussed it further.

i brought us to the conclusion that were I to gain said “imperviousness”, my most probable first two locations to visit would be the Deep sea and going spelunking in underwater caves. the idea of wading through dark water without worry of harm to myself and my surroundings is immensely cool to me.

sure if offered I’d be interested in studying the land around me formally and taking pictures of creatures I got credit for discovering, but I’d be suitably promoted to spend hours down there just for the sake of looking around.

ice flows, thermal vents, trenches, reefs, plains of open ocean <3 anywhere the sea creatures and crawlers are will be enough for me.

do you think ocean was worrying about how she had to get home soon because there was school tomorrow as she boarded the cyclone? do you think constance was super excited about finally going on her favorite ride after looking forward to it the whole day and the choir just went along with it because she wanted to so bad? do you think mischa was reaching out for his phone that was falling out of his pocket as he fell to his death in one final desperate attempt to contact talia? do you think ricky wished he could scream more than he ever had before as he watched the girl sitting next to him's head fly off? do you think in his final moments noel was worrying about his mom and how she would have no one left if he died? do you think ocean was the first one to notice how something was wrong with the track and could only listen as her choirmate's screams of joy became screams of fear? do you think about how hard mr and mrs blackwood probably cried when they found out their baby girl was dead? do you think that was mischas first time on a roller coaster? do you think about how ricky died the youngest of them all, having turned 17 only 3 months earlier? do you think constance was gripping the hem of her skirt, like she does in the show, as the cart was flying off the tracks out of pure adrenaline? do you think penny had brought ezra with her and he was on the ground, watching the ride his sister was on break and kill everyone in it? do you think he was desperately trying to tell the medics that the unidentified body was his sister and they brushed him off because of his age? do you think constance was laughing as she fell to her death, more focused on the beautiful sunset and memories than she was on her imminent doom? do you think about how because of the canadian school schedule, that was literally only their second week of senior year? do you think constances baby brother was scared when his big sister just stopped coming home one day? do you think about how mischa's final text to talia was probably a good night text and she slept through the love of her life's death, only to see no new messages from him when she woke up and "rest in peace" comments all over his social medias? do you think ocean was stressing about a quiz they had at school the next day in the moments before the cart derailed? do you think rickys cats felt his absence after he died and just knew something bad had happened to him? do you think, as he bled out, mischa was smiling because he would finally get to be with his mom?

"ruthlessness" is a devastating song, no argument, but just how devastating it is always gives me goosebumps when i listen to it. i love that jay understands that silence can be as powerful as sound, and that's what really drives the loss of his men home, for me.

think about it; 600 men on a dozen ships initially, so that's about 50 people per ship. the 43 men left are solely on odysseus's vessel.

the men screaming his name, the wind roaring, and suddenly, everyone is gone. the silence is so loud. so final.

it's not like they fell overboard, and are screaming for help in the waves. they're gone immediately, and the sudden silence is so chilling.

Literally don't get the point of the new pjo series where he has to get letters of recommendations from the gods. Like all demigods have to go through this dumb process? are they being elitist for who goes to college in New Rome? Honestly, knowing them, they probably are. But like Percy has stopped Kronos and done a bunch of shit for the gods already so like, they should automatically be giving him those rec letters. Even Hera.

ride the cyclone PSA for you all:

a lot of people don’t realize that uranium city isn’t a fictional town. it is a fictionalized version of the real uranium city, a town established during the cold war era boom of uranium mining towns in the 1950s.

it was a thriving mining town, with business shining throughout the 60s and the town boasting a population of over ten thousand.

the sudden closure of its last mine in 1982 saw the population plummet from 4,000 to almost 400 people.

to most, it’s now considered a ghost town, with only between 50 and 90 residents depending on the season.

relics of when the town was thriving remain scattered throughout the area. candu high, built right before the population plummet, remained in operation for 4 years before shutting down.

the only remaining school only serves students from kindergarten to grade nine, meaning that the only way a high school education can be pursued is through private means. there exist no cafes, and the few hotels and apartments that existed in the area have since shut down.

uranium city is a lot more than a dead-end highway town in real life: it’s almost completely abandoned. assuming the musical takes place in 2009, it wouldn’t have been big enough to host a fair and a cafe wouldn’t have enough customers to maintain business. part of uranium are fictionalized in ride the cyclone but the town itself met an even worse fate than the fictionalized uranium.

just an interesting bit of history i wanted to share :)

I’ve been losing my mind about The Ocean Saga from Epic:The Musical for like a couple days (weeks) and I have to say there’s a couple things I especially love

In “Keep Your Friends Close” Odysseus works so god damn hard to make sure no one can fuck up his chance to get back to his family. He dispels the treasure rumours immediately, tells the crew it’s the storm trapped in the bag, and still stays awake for NINE DAYS to make sure no one touches it.

Despite that, when he falls asleep and the bag is opened, the crew opens it and unleashes the storm. You can HEAR his desperation in the “NO” and yet and YET he focuses on the situation. “Help me close the bag!” “But sir it’s too late!” “We can keep whatever wind it left to use another day, COME ON!”

Despite the fact that these people betrayed them and they might all die he still pushes it aside to make sure they survive before he does anything else. Beyond that, he trusts them to help him, or at least, trusts in their desire to be alive

Also if someone fucked up the journey that badly and I tried to fix it and they’re like UHHHH ITS TOO LATE I’d shove that bitch overboard and be like anyone else want to be fatalist??? No??? Get the fuck to work

Also “OOOODYSSEUS OF ITHACAAAA” like a wrestler was amazing

And Poseidon being like “apologise for hurting my son and I’ll let you go alive” and Odysseus, gaslighter extraordinaire, said okay but have you considered I didn’t wanna hurt him and didn’t mean it
