Scenarios and Tasks

Scenario 1: You want to watch a movie but you have a hard time choosing one.

Task 1: Log in on OKFilm and answer the movie preference question to get a recommendation. Then, choose another recommendation and see what available movie platforms are out there. Come back to the app to rate the movie.

Scenario 2: Most of your friends have seen movies that you've been talking about and you want to keep up with them.

Task 2: Go on OKFilm into your watchlist page and create a new time list with a limit of 2 weeks.

Scenario 3: Your friend asks you to send them the new time list you've created.

Task 3: Go to your OKFilm watchlist page and share the new time list with a friend.

Well, we’ve been doing VHSANDCHILL public screenings here in OKC since August 2017 and it has been a wild ride ever since! I’ve got to shout out to @individualartists for giving us our first public showing and listening to me explain a VHS-themed Jeff Goldblum screening and saying “Sure! That sounds awesome!” Running these shows has been an absolute blast and we’ll keep doing these events as long as everybody keeps coming out and having fun with us! Secondary Research: Movie For Your Mood App

-potential name: Filmy (like the question "feel me?"); OKfilm (like the famous "OK Google")

Upon researching the topic, I found the perfect example relating to my app idea. It starts with a six-question questionnaire so that the engine will better understand your current mood and help you pick a choice faster. The questions are about your current mood state, your current surrounding, your preferred genre interests, how old would you like the movie to be ("doesn't matter" is one of them which I found to be great), the age-appropriateness of the movie, and more insights about your personal interests in movies such as "Movies that may change the way you look at life".

You get to watch a trailer or change a recommendation. You get only one recommendation at a time so as not to feel overwhelmed.

This example is a big inspiration but it doesn't include a personal blog where a person could take down notes/rate movies/share with friends, etc.

It was a bit of a sad surprise (or not really) to find an existing app with the same idea for a name. Feelm (pronounced “film,” not “feeeeeelm”) is a platform where people choose a movie based on their current mood. It doesn't include a questionnaire like the previous example but it shows a list of a bunch of must-see movies which can be useful for people who just want to stay on trend and follow the classics/new movies.

I also like the simplicity of the app design. It doesn't feel overwhelming with a lot of extra information that would only confuse you more and make you dive deeper into researching a perfect movie for the occasion.

I found this article to be interesting and true based on my personal experience. Cinema therapy is something that everyone can practice in their daily lives. Whenever I feel burnout, separated from my social life, stressful about work, school, or relationships, I watch a movie to motivate myself and reduce the stress. I've also always found it interesting when people are educated about movies because it makes social networking much easier.

It is something that I would take into consideration when designing the app.
