Why don't the other ordos like the hereticus?
They’re seen as overzealous and shriek-y, to put it simply. Imagine a mixed Ordo meeting. The Malleus is talking about a chaos cult whose activity is building to summoning a greater daemon in a city centre, and a covert operation to take them out. The Ordo Xenos are providing additional intel that the whole thing is being machinated by a cabal of Drukhari who are using the event as a distraction to take something specific from the planet during the planned havoc.
Then one of the Hereticus pipes up to say “You know who are REALLY to blame for this? PSYKERS.”
Several Psyker Inquisitors present raise an eyebrow, but the sweating man, Inquisitor Lord Salem, isn’t done.
“Also MUTANTS. I suggest that we start rounding up anyone who suffers from headaches or has an EXTRA TOE, just in case. Then we BURN THEM ALIVE. PUBLICLY. And we should broadcast it over loudspeakers to inspire FEAR OF THE GOD EMPEROR in these other heretics. That will show them.”
Several other members of the Hereticus are nodding furiously in agreement. One is lovingly cooing to a heavy flamer sat on a nearby table.
A member of the Malleus thunks their head onto the table and tiredly asks a servitor to bring more recaf. And a horse tranquilliser.

The results of what I would like to call Guard January, it just so happens this month I ended up painting a bunch of random Guard models, both old and new.
In order of appearance: -Kalitiya Al Makouma, Military Police Investigator turned Inquisitorial Retinue member after discovering a Genestealer cult in her regiment. She's part of the same Ordo Xenos team as Mord and Zex Al'Dakiz and Raphael Qvele.
-Severine Roodeker, lord militant to Rogue Trader Captain Tarriel Eleonora Corvinius. My character from the Wrath & Glory campaign featuring Alena. Her only real achievement, beyond nearly dying multiple times due to stupid crits, was killing the final boss with two lucky shots with a bolt pistol. Two of those crits led to her losing an arm and a leg, during separate incidents (the leg was ripped off by Khrave clone). The arm is a Wraithbone prosthesis, a gift from an Eldar Corsair for saving his skin and the leg was replaced by an AdMech prosthesis. The latter I didn't model because it'd require a lot of cutting, and Skitarii legs look too thin.
-Lieutenants Sasha Mearghuv, from a so far unnamed regiment. The base model is the Minka Lesk one, with a Wargames Atlantic Cannon Fodder 2 head instead of the regular one. (Same with both Kali and Sev.) First time I had the chance to paint one of the new Cadians, instead of just old ones. The colour scheme is WW2 GI, even if realised that's really similar to the Cadian 8th one, even if painting the pants a different colour does wonders I feel. Really hate how tied up she is to the overly big hero rock. But otherwise I do enjoy the new Cadian aesthetic when they don't have their odd helmets and non M36 rifles.
-Trooper Totterpole, from another unnamed regiment. This one is a straight up unmodified old Cadian Shock Trooper, using one of the few upgrade sprue heads I managed to get ahold off. He was meant to be painted up as a Vietnam Marine, but I quickly discovered that the old Cadians have too much armor to make that work, so on my third attempt I improvised with the armor colours. Which ended up pretty decent. The base is 'jungle', probably need to get some better materials for that in the future.

probably shouldn’t surprise me I could spin Nicomedes’s retinue into a 2000-plus point army if I wished, given he’s a Lord Inquisitor, and it makes him interesting (the man’s surrounded by a veritable army of interesting people, including two Deathwatch squads and a few dozen Sanctioned Xenos; it’s gonna get real weird)
but like, I could do that, I could buy a really eclectic spread of boxes and kitbash countless weirdos only linked together by a highly eccentric employer

The weekend is terminator time. A ranged support squad really for a teleport strike.
Lead by a black shield who arrived at the watch fortress clad in a plate of terminator armour with no shoulder pauldrons, he has taken the deathwatch as his one and only chapter, choosing to place this where his home chapters iconography would normally be. The left shoulder has been left a blank black, save for the high gothic 'Pious' as a indicator of his sole commitment to his duty to the long vigil.

Practise with an Inquisitor, I was watching an analysis of Frollo's scenes and I thought about an Inquisitor that has a similar dilema.

How would the Imperium fare if the Inquisition vanished? Would it thrive or crumble
If their respective orders militant vanished as well? They’d have a much worse time, no brainer. If just the Inquisitors vanished? More mixed, but still not great. There’d be less errantly dangerous, unhinged gambles there to impact random people, but there’d also be a large decrease in the flow of new information being distributed around the Imperium. The Inquisition are shitheads, but the Imperium is so large and badly connected and generally awfully handled that the shadowy evil order does actually help it function.

This was a bit of an odd model to make given what he does. He is basically a walking computer that, for lack of a better term, 'predicts' enemy actions.
A longer explanation is that he uses the information of his surroundings; collecting vast amounts of data using the antennae attached to his skull and back, wired servo-skull and an arcane artifact known as the Eye, and works out the statistical likelihood of what the actions would be of enemies, where they would be and where they are likely to attack from. This data is then broadcast to nearby task force members, either verbally or through the vox. This is done with an accuracy of somewhere between 90-95%.

The member of Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor Celiya Xanthic retinue known only as Mord, is an odd one out in the group. Silent for the most part, but whenever he speaks the voice is filtered and the low gothic halting. Some members swearing they've heard a chittering noise coming from him at times. Then there's also something about his movements, something unnatural. Like he's trying to hold himself back. Sometimes there's motions playing on the surface of his long coat that he wears at all times and never removes. Even then he's a highly disciplined killer, using a set of weapons firing razor sharp flechettes at high velocities.
The truth is that Mord, their real name hard to pronounce with a human mouth, is part of a arachnid xenos species from a distant sector. The species is far too small, and too remote, to garner much attention from the Imperium at large. How they managed to be in the employ of Inquisitor Xanthic is anyone's guess. Less said about what deals she might have struck with them for their employ. All that is known is that places the team visits, people tend to disappear. Sometimes bodies are found, usually a dried out husk lacking any organs...
***
Turns out that Van Saar helmets on Delaque bodies work really well. A very quick and nice project, painted and based this one in a day.
The idea to paint the sides of the gasmask the helmet colour, making it look like extended mandibles, was a random idea that I felt worked out pretty well.
I think the only thing I would note is that I probably should've gone for a more leather coat, rather than trying to use Black Templar contrast. For once I put on too much of it, rather than getting it unevenly applied. Or I should've paid more attention to how the painting video for those coats did the highlights. That I definitely feel like I messed up a bit.
