Kyoto, Japan
July 2023
If you have the ability/stamina to do the walk, I recommend walking from Arashiyama Bamboo Forest to Adashino Nenbutsu-ji Temple, and then from there to Otagi Nenbutsuji Temple. It takes you through some beautiful bits of old Kyoto. Most of it is uphill, but it is beautiful. And from Otagi Nenbutsuji there's a bus back into the city.

Photo of the Day: Rakan
Taken at Otagi Nenbutsuji in Arashiyama, Kyoto.
Rakan are the followers of the historical Buddha. They are displayed in various places in Japan. The stone carvings of the rakan at the Otagi Nenbutsuji are particularly moving.
I would also add that because it out in the far corner of Arashiyama, it is much less crowded than the main area around the station.
