Meeting Lahabrea in Pandaemonium is so cool because you can see a lot of the Ascians' methodology from a technical perspective in what's been going on there. The separation from Hephaistos and the crystal created by that probably helped lead into the methodology through which the unsundered recruited and restored memories to shards of convocation members, for instance, and whatever happened to the keywards and Erich was very similar in my mind to tempering. Not to mention at least one primal was likely, according to one of the short stories, based on a concept Lahabrea created.

There have been so many jokes about Lahabrea just being kinda there among the unsundered, so it's really interesting to see how much he probably actually contributed.

Sooo... just found this ficlet of yours and can't stop thinking about Astraea the Pandaemonium boss, fighting all the Azem's familiars out there. How would she destroy us? Or would she try to resist the call for fight?

This has awakened a beast in me I never knew existed!!!!!!!

She has never been much of a fighter. I think she would attempt to resist the call to fight, but knowing Athena’s methods of coercion I think Astraea would eventually be forced into it. Canonically, Athena and Lahabrea always wanted her to work for them because her methods of creation were powerful but passive — they wanted to twist her work into something deadly. She refused, and Hades kept a watchful eye.

Had they managed to recruit her, I think her methods of destruction would be through psychological warfare. Powerful, realistic illusions of whatever the individual feared most in an attempt to scare them off. Should this fail, they would face other horrors from their own memories distorted in such a way to cause most harm. Particularly memories of grief, guilt, isolation. Powerful hallucinations, overwhelming the senses is the goal.

If that didn’t work, her final step would be to inflict a poison that slowly caused the individual to lose control of their motor function. This would most likely be hidden in the pollen of beautiful flowers or on the dust of butterfly wings. This step would likely be unassuming, individuals would come into contact unknowingly and it would spread slow. The eventual goal would be living subjects, to further run tests on.

An ancient transformed right in front of her and started throwing chains around for a fight. All right then. Okay.

The red mask on the top of his form made her wonder, but...no. The ancient was merely a warder, who had briefly lost control of himself, and not Lahabreha. An ancient losing control didn’t bode well for what awaited them inside Pandaemonium itself, if even the warders were at risk.

But now they were going deeper in, first to test something that would allow Erichthionos to capture any of the escaped subjects (and boy was that monster something), and then to find a way to reach the master (sorry, “keywarder”) of the first section of Pandaemonium. Apparently, the other warders would’ve fled deeper than Asphodel, going to Abyssos, and they had a goal to reach them and help them get out, while also regaining control of the first layer.

(”Eric” wanted to save everyone, subject and warder alike, rather than see all their work destroyed if deemed too great a risk. He didn’t seem to hold Lahabreha in high regard, however, considering how he’d reacted to the question of whether or not the warders celebrated Phoenix’s final form.)

...but first, they had to fight a very angry phoenix-predecessor. In an arena that looked like a destroyed Elpis, for some reason.

(Cross sighed and grabbed her bow. This was not going to be pleasant, even with her experience fighting Louisoix.)
