KP X DFF AU
(Takes place around events of ep 7 DFF and end of Kinnporsche)
(inspired by I re-watched ep6 of DFF and somehow missed that they sing TSICY on their way to Pors house on my first watch)
Somehow Non and Chay run into each other and they look identical. Chay, wanting to have some time away from the mafia he's become apart of, comes up with the idea after hearing Nons story to switch places. Non is reluctant at first but when Chay promises he can help solve Nons problems he agrees (Non doesn't fully trust Chay and leaves out some details like Mr Keng and Phee).
Chay has a Theerapanyakul mafia ring that he uses when the mafia guys come after him to get them to leave him alone, he also has access to mafia money that he tries to use to help Nons family as much as he can without causing suspicion. Chay is disgusted by how Nons 'friends’ treat him but Non had said he wanted to finish his movie so Chay plays along with them for now.
And Then whatever happens causing Non to disappear happens to Chay instead.
Non was told by Chay that if he went to the compound he’d be able to just walk in, he’s nervous but he does and when he’s engulfed in a hug by a stranger he feels a little better. He recognizes the man from a photo Chay had shown him, Porsche, who was worried because Chay disappeared and lost his bodyguards for a few hours.
Chay had told Non that he wasn’t speaking to his brother or anyone else really so if he did nothing but stay in Chays room the whole time he’d be fine and no one would question or really bother him.
Then Non gets a knock on his door, it’s Kim, he was trying to apologize to Chay about his song being stolen and that it wasn't him that released it and he didn’t mean for it to happen.
(Someone on Kims team finds a demo Kim made of Chays song (tsicy) when he was helping Chay record it, and releases it under Wiks name without Kim’s consent. Because Kim hasn’t released any new music since his break up with Chay and his company wants new music from him.)
Non feels bad about how distraught Kim sounds, and lets him in. Kim hadn’t expected for Chay to actually let him in, it’s been a month since Kim had been this close to Chay and so the first thing he does on impulse is hugs him. Non, currently still processing the worst week of his life, doesn’t push Kim away causing Kim to kiss him.
Anyway Kim somehow finds out that it wasn’t Chay who forgave him and that Non isn't Chay and demands Non tell him where Chay actually is and when they show back up everyone is confused (because they killed him like 3 weeks ago or something) and is like WTF?! But when Non just acts like nothing happened they don’t bring it up, and so now Non and Kim have to figure out what happened to Chay.

this episode had so many great one-liners.
"i'm not going to like it, am i?" "you don't like anything."
"money isn't everything." "that's because you don't have any."

Trigger warning: statutory rape, grooming
I haven't yet look at the reactions to the most recent episode on Tumblr, but I feel a little concerned about how there were comments in other places that just didn't acknowledge the fact that Non was taken advantage of by his teacher.
Like, this kid is so alone. He doesn't seem to fully be able to talk to his family, he has a group of kids who continually bully him and want to hurt him and he has no way to really get away from them. The only people he seems to be able to talk to are Phee, who goes to a different school and doesn't necessary see him on a daily basis, and (maybe) Jin, who is friends with the kids who bully him (this is obviously before Jin filmed him). He is in desperate need of money and doesn't know how to get it, he's scared and stressed out AND
a friendly face in the form of his teacher turns up. Someone who is offering kindness to this kid who is in desperate need of some. And then the teacher presents a solution to Non's money problem, saving him. But right after this offer, the teacher initiates a kiss. This is his TEACHER, who is a grown man, while Non is still a teenager. This is his TEACHER, who saw a vulnerable kid and decided to use that to get Non to seek comfort in him, to put Non in a position where he (Mr. Keng) has power over him and uses that to groom him.
It truly upsets me so much for me to see some people call Non a cheater and a terrible person for this when Non is a victim of someone who he should have been protected by.

Really, Cid?
Tumblr media
You made them get to this point before allowing them fifty percent after what you pulled? I don't think I've ever seen that many arms crossed on one place, and I once pulled a heist with some less-than-eager helpers from Ojom!
I offered them fifty right away the last time I saw them. That little adventure didn't end so well, but the respect was there.
You keep this up and you won't have all that brains, brawn, and beauty working for you!

Just rewatched DFF ep 9 and I really do think this show is so beautifully meticulously artistically written, with themes and layers and so much thoughtful care. I trust wherever it leads, even if it doesn't lead to the places I want most in my heart (PerthNon vs. PheeTan revenge teams at crosshairs, culminating in a heartfelt brotherly reunion, lol if playfully grudging at how much they fucked up each other's plans despite having the same goals, and a Non who has moved on with someone who has life experiences similar enough to his to actually understand him, listen to him, and trust him. But most importantly A HEARTFELT BROTHERLY REUNION). It's just always fun to watch a show where you can expect to be surprised, you can expect to be angry at the characters, you can expect to not get what you want, and you can still expect to appreciate the writing and enjoy the experience. Love to let the story seduce me you see
#btw im not knocking phee for not understanding or trusting non he is a realistic teenage boy#but i am not expecting the narrative to have him confront his inadequacies as wannabe superboyfriend#like he may confront them with jin but i don't think he's going to really get the scope of them with non#thusly i don't want him to choose non out of obligation or guilt i want non to have his own very alive life without him#phee hurts me the most because he's probably the character i relate to most. for better or worse....#but!!! the real point of this post is that i trust the writing and i trust the show#it doesn't have to go in any direction i predict for me to be satisfied and mesmerized#i hope non is alive thoughhhhhhhhhhhhhhh sob sob sob#i hope non and new survive together sob sob sob#they make me SO SAD i can't cope#everything new's parents kept from him 'for his own good' to preserve his golden boy future#at cost to him and his relationship with them and his relationship with his brother#there is no way he would have let them continue needlessly sending $$ for two years straight if he knew what a hardship it was#which means he had no idea what it took to support him in england while non was at home being blamed for his family's money problems#new carried his family's expectations on his shoulders and strove and strove and strove the way his parents wanted#and utterly failed his brother in the process#then strove and strove to make that right#and utterly failed his parents#non carried his family's disappointments and strove and strove to find anything to live for outside of them#and found only more isolation and horror#but his brother actually loves him so much#i need him and non to get their hug#but if he dies heroically hallucinating the hug#or any other possible writing choice#i trust! i do trust!! i will appreciate the writing#i'll sob my eyes out. and want fixit fic. and appreciate the writing#dff#dead friend forever#dff spoilers#prathipsits

My ultimate DFF finale theiry is this:
Given that every article and every tag and every description of this show describes this as a Mystery Thriller it stands to reasons that despite DFF blended genres that is the primary one and thereore the one that is going to dictate much of the ending.
That plus the show love of reveals, makes me think the show is going to end on a Mastermind reveal.

Requesting some Cross doesn't kill the Lt. for WIP Wednesday please!
And you shall have it! Fun fact: I may have to design an Entire House for this fic, including like. Floor plans and everything.
Crosshair has no idea who Lyana and the moon-yos and Phee all are, but he sees Tech look up briefly at the mention of the last one, which gives him an idea of what role she played in their decision to stay, at least. Hunter probably has other reasons too; to Crosshair, everything he just said mostly sound like excuses. But what does he know.
Find the rules and titles for this week's WIP Wednesday ask game here.

@parameddic liked for a starter
She was barefoot again. Probably shouldn't be, walking around town—it wasn't necessarily all that smart, all that safe, or so she'd been told. There could be glass and god knows what else out there on the pavement. She could get hurt. But, for as much as Phee loved a good pair of shoes, she wasn't all that fond of actually wearing them. She much preferred feeling the grass beneath her toes. Being one with nature and all that.
Not that the pavement counted as nature.
It probably wasn't smart to march right up to strangers and demand their attention, either, but in her defense, he was wearing a uniform. Everyone knew that people in uniforms were supposed to help. "Excuse me." Confident was the word Arthur most often used to describe her (although Linus had said that her confidence wasn't always a good thing), and it certainly described her now: confident that she would be heard, confident that he would help, confident that she would find Lucy before Arthur discovered she'd lost him. "I can't find my brother. He's six." She held a hand out at his approximate height, a bit shorter than herself. "Have you seen him?"

Like, okay, here's the thing.
We spend an entire sequence with Phee on a random moon where CX-2 sneaks onto her ship, steals data, stares at her, then sneaks off. None of that scene was necessary, at all. It could have been handled in his conversation with Hemlock the same way the interaction with Cid was.
It wasn't. We see Phee's ship for the first time, we listen to her argue with Mel, we see her have a security measure that CX-2 actually trips (to his obvious annoyance), watch her realize CX-2 is there (though she doesn't catch him). And then rather than leave, he stays to watch her go.
This whole scene is over 3 minutes. That's a big piece when the entire episode is 20m long. Why is this here?
It's not because CX-2 is no one. If he was, this scene wouldn't be here.

Sitting on my ship twiddling my thumbs...
No new leads to follow, no contact from those muscle heads, and even Cid's too busy to bother picking up a comm link and respond to the two messages I left. I wish Mel was better at conversation.
I need something to happen soon. I'm not good at sitting still.

Phee, New, and a Masterful Misdirect
Tumblr media
I know I already said as much, but this week drove home again how strong DFF's writing is. Because the way this show used Phee to throw us off the scent until the end game was so, so smart.
In the first four episodes, our attention was deliberately drawn to Phee. He was established as part of one of the two romantic pairings, and we were encouraged to wonder wtf was up with his relationship with Jin. We were also given many subtle hints that Phee was acting suspicious and seemed to be intentionally investigating the boys, while Tan stayed kind of vague and in the background. Tan seemed to know Phee better than the rest, and many guessed he might be helping Phee, but for the most part, the focus was on Phee.
Then as we moved into the flashback, Tan disappeared for four entire episodes, while we get a major reveal about Phee's relationship with Non and lots of time spent on its dissolution. So of course, the prevailing theory becomes that Phee is the one orchestrating this whole investigation and tormenting these boys in the woods. And the assumption is that he's doing this because of his deep love for Non, his shame for not supporting Non when everything hit the fan, and his conviction that he was done wrong. Tan is once again assumed to be helping him, though theories differed on why, with some guessing he was Non's brother and some speculating on other reasons.
But it turns out, Phee isn't running this operation at all. "Tan" is New, and he has been the driving force the entire time. It's his guilt over leaving Non alone to go abroad that motivates him to investigate, and he pulls Phee along with him.
And Phee? Well, he's not quite as broken up about Non's death as we thought. Sure, he wants to understand where Non went and why, for closure. But he doesn't seem to be carrying any huge burdens of guilt or shame, which makes sense because aside from Non's screenplay that alludes to culprits he doesn't name, he doesn't actually know the truth about Non's situation with Keng or what any of these boys did. He jumps into a romance with Jin incredibly quickly, and it's clear the attraction and his feelings are genuine even as he justifies it to New by claiming it's for the investigation. He takes Jin to the place where he asked Non to be his boyfriend, so apparently this is not something he holds sacred. The morning after he has sex with Jin, Phee is in Jin's room while he's asleep, and does not take the opportunity to investigate. Instead he moons over Jin, cuddles up to him, and instigates morning sex. He is still staring off into space smiling to himself about it until New accuses him of cheating on his brother, at which point he remembers what he's supposed to be doing, makes his excuses, and puts up walls with Jin.
And from then on, they don't seem to learn much of anything, and I suspect that Phee doesn't really want to, because he likes Jin and doesn't want to know what he did to Non. Phee, as it turns out, is just an immature high school boy who liked his boyfriend, but moved on pretty quickly once it was over. He would not be doing any of this if it wasn't for New, and it's clear his heart isn't in it. New is the one who feels deep guilt, who wants to learn what the group did to Non, and whose trauma compounds until he snaps and hatches a plan to trap them at the vacation house and dose them with hallucinogens. Phee goes along with it, but as we saw, his motive seems to be more about reconnecting with Jin before he leaves the country than actually caring about punishing these boys for what happened to Non.
What a great, nuanced little twist to this reveal. New has been the one running the show the whole time, and the show managed to keep that from us via a classic misdirect with Phee. I love that this show manages to keep finding ways to surprise us even when we have some of the picture figured out.
