Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
content: leo valdez x daughter of poseidon! reader fic warning: lanauage and mentions of death and grief but dont worry, it's all fixed with some good ol' comfort author's note: the start of this one be hitting me in the gut frfr. i dunno, something about it just got me throwing up my liver lmao- also, loveeeeee this song by my girl phoebe but like its a stretch to make it match the fic but imma explain anyways. okay okay so 'you missed my heart' in and of itself matches the fic so well bc like the fates DID miss her heart bc they didn't really kill leo, he still alive, so they just barely missed her heart!! get it??? and then there's another line 'listening to her screams, listenign to her cries' which is just percy this wholeeeee fic watching his sister go through the biggest heartbreak of her life and yeah...im totally normal about this shut UP.
“y/n! y/n!” leo called over the sounds of metal against metal, easily slipping out of a fight between a child of demeter and some mud monster. he caught sight of her blonde hair, the girl spinning around with her sword, shoving it into the chest of some monster, which evaporated before her eyes. leo set his hand against her shoulder, y/n jumping and moving to slash him before her movements halted as she caught sight of who it was. a breath left her lips, the poor girl’s shoulders instantly losing all their tension. leo cupped her face with his hands, forcing her attention to be on him. y/n stared at him, but her brows slowly furrowed at what must have been the look on his face.
“y/n, i’m coming back. i’ll be back, i swear. listen, y/n, i love you so much. gods, it hurts to even think about. i love you, y/n l/n, more than i've ever loved anything before. you’re home, the only one i don’t plan on running away from. i swear on everything,” leo rushed out, cementing his words with a kiss against her lips. y/n reached out, her fingers gripping his armor tightly and pulling him closer. leo pulled back first, taking in her face like it was the last time he’d see it. he swallowed thickly at that thought, knowing he couldn’t think like that.
“leo, what-”
“i’m sorry,” he whispered as he cut her off before letting go. his fingers ached to hold her for longer, to never let go, to just stay here forever. but each moment that passed, he was just prolonging the inevitable. y/n stared at him in confusion as leo rapidly moved away from her and then it clicked.
“…no. no, no, no, nononono. no!” y/n muttered which then turned into yells. she tried to follow after the son of hephaestus but got caught up in the battle. she tore through every monster that stood in her way, determined to stop him. she was running, her shoulder slamming into percy’s as she tried to get past him. percy reached out and grabbed her, squeezing his eyes shut as he knew what was happening. leo had talked to percy a few months ago, awkwardly, but he told him of his plan…and what he required of percy. y/n’d never let him go easy, that much they both knew. she loved things strongly, squeezing them tightly in her hands even if it killed them.
“percy! let me go! please! he’s-” y/n screamed, kicking and withering in her brother’s grasp.
“i’m sorry, y/n,” percy whispered against her screams, which had dissolved from words into just yelling. she was crying now, inconsolable sobs breaching her mouth and it killed a part of percy to hold onto her like this.
“percy, please, i can’t- i can’t just watch. he- just, let me go, i’ll fix this,” she sobbed, her legs collapsing and bringing percy down with her.
“no, y/n, this…we can’t fight this,” percy soothed, his hold on her still tight.
“he needs me. he’s gonna die alone, percy, let me go,” cried y/n, desperately trying to claw at his arms to no avail. percy just shook his head, hanging it as an explosion filled the sky, the battle coming to a halt. y/n just stared, tears steadily leaking out of her eyes, before she screamed in a way that made percy want to cry too. surely the gods heard it, the painstaking sound that erupted from y/n’s mouth as her emotional pain turned physical. she screamed until she was out of breath, her chest heaving in an effort to keep her alive. y/n slumped now, her energy spent and exhaustion easily creeping into her system. she leaned against percy now, who’s grip turned soft and comforting. one hand stroked her shoulder and the other ran through her hair, undoing the knots with his fingers.
“…it should have been me,” y/n managed to get out, her words bitter and her eyes unfocused. percy shook his head, forcing her to look at him, which she barely managed.
“he’d kill you for saying that,” percy bit out, staring her down. y/n’s eyes finally met his, her eyes squinting with an effort.
“at least we’d both be dead,” she whispered out, her eyes filling with tears once more. percy just pulled her to his chest again, allowing her to cry herself to the closest thing to sleep she could get.
over the next few months, y/n would wake screaming and shaking and crying. percy would always jump out of his bed and run to her side of the cabin to find her hands gripping at the blankets and reaching towards her throat, where she always struggled to get breath in. he tried his best to help her through this, but he was at a loss. he hadn’t been here when he went missing and she barely shared the deep parts of this with anyone…well, leo’d know what to do, percy always thought, slightly bitter, as y/n curled up into a ball after crying herself to sleep again.
then, one morning, without explanation, y/n woke up before percy and presented him with breakfast and a smile. he could tell it was forced and that this was all an act, which is why he wanted her to stop. but y/n just shook him off, claiming she was doing better and wanted to do better, for leo. though, she never said his name. in fact, percy was sure she stopped staying it the moment he died. he hated that she put on this act for everyone, pretending to be fine as she taught little kids how to fight or draw and helped new campers settle in. and the night terrors seemed to stop too, percy finally able to get a full night's rest as well. however, he learned that y/n had been waiting for him to fall asleep before sneaking out of the cabin and sleeping in bunker nine, to avoid waking him anymore. he tried to discourage her of this, but she gave him an innocent look and pretended not to know what he was talking about.
“y/n, you want an apple or strawberries?” percy questioned in line, stabbing a few pancakes and slapping them onto his plate. y/n reached over and grabbed the apple with a tight smile, brushing her shoulder against percy’s as she broke the line and headed towards their table.
“so, summers coming to an end,” percy prompted over breakfast, keeping his eyes trained on his pancakes and missing the brow y/n raised at him.
“well, duh,” she joked, her voice not sounding like herself but percy’d never say that. she hadn't sounded like herself in...in a while.
“i was just thinking…maybe you come stay with me for the winter and spring semester. we’ve always talked about it,” percy replied, like he didn’t have an ulterior motive to keep her close. y/n instantly frowned, staring at percy with something close to disappointment. and anger.
“i’m not a child that needs watching, percy,” she bit out, turning her eyes away from him too.
“that’s not-”
“drop it, jackson,” she growled, now actually mad, shoving herself away from the bench and walking away from the dining pavilion. percy sighed and hung his head, feeling the tension build behind his eyes.
“you said you’d be back, leo. i could- she could really use you right about now,” percy muttered into his breakfast, shaking his head as he briefly thought about the fact that leo might not come back…ever.
“dragon!” someone called out, shooting out of their seat and pointing upwards. everyone’s eyes shot to the sky, following the direction where they pointed and surely enough there was a huge shadowy mass coming down on the camp. everyone scrambled to their feet, following it to the beaches. percy’s eyes scoured the crowd for y/n, frowning as he couldn’t find her anywhere. annabeth caught his wrist, forcing his attention to turn to her.
“y/n, where’s y/n?” she asked him but percy just shook his head in response before they both started to scan the crowd.
"i dunno, i pissed her off-"
"what did you say to her, seaweed brain?" annabeth cut in, givng percy a point look that he shrugged off.
"i offered my home up to her!! i was being kind," huffed percy but annabeth rolled her eyes at the boy, knowing how y/n must have taken it.
then the crowd around them erupted in cheers of leo's name as he slid off the metal dragon. he greeted a few of them with smiles or nods and shook the hands of those who reached out, but his eyes scanned the crowd. to be honest, he didn't give a shit about anyone who stood in front of him at the moment. he came back for one reason and one reason only.
"percy!" he yelled as his eyes landed on the boy, percy instantly pulling annabeth with him through the crowd, shoving his way to leo.
"gods, youre alright! you were starting to worry us and-"
"that's great, where's y/n?" cut in leo, instantly, his hands gripping percy's arms and his eyes desperate. percy explained that he'd lost you right before the commotion and leo's eyes were back to scanning the crowd.
"i gotta find her, man," leo muttered before his eyes caught on the crowd parting.
teens clad in orange shirts were parting to make a path, the cheering slowing down into mere murmurs. there, standing perfectly in the middle of the parted demigods, you stood. you looked like moses, leo thought vaguely, waiting for you to make the first move. he understood this was hard and he didn't want to come on too strong. but his fingers were itching to touch you, to feel you, to hold you again.
you were in shock, your chest heaving and your eyes blinking rapidly in an attempt to see through the tears. you couldn't tell if this was just another one of your dreams, another dream that was going to be stolen away from you as the sun rose. wanting to confirm the realness of it all, of his skin and his soul and his life really being there in front of you, you took slow steps forwards. leo matched your pace, every time you took a step, he took two.
not before long, you were softly gripping his arms and cupping his face, squishing and squeezing the skin to validate that he was there, with you again. and then you were sobbing, pulling him into you and determined to never let him go again. leo would never leave if that's what you wanted, always eager to fulfill your every want and wish.
"you came home," you sobbed into his shoulder and leo squeezed you closer, pushing his face into the crook of your neck.
"always. im always gonna come home to you. you're never getting rid of me."

no longer a danger to herself or others she made up her mind and laced up her shoes
“go. just take him.”
light poured in through the curtains, just barely illuminating the room in the early morning. abby slept soundly on your chest, her head rising and falling with your body. you couldnt help but admire her.
she’d been through too much, but she was still perfect to you.
pretty brown lashes that fluttered every so often. soft lips you wanted to admire forever. her hair was starting to grow out and you made a mental note to trim it later so it would grow out evenly.
yelled down the hall but nobody answered so she walked outside without an excuse
her eyes fluttered open slowly, gradually adjusting to the light. you smiled, leaning down to press a kiss to her temple.
her eyes fluttered open slowly, gradually adjusting to the light. you smiled, leaning down to press a kiss to her temple.
“good morning sleepyhead,” you teased as she pulled you tighter. “you sleep okay?” she hummed as she nodded against you. “want some breakfast my love?”
“mmm, not yet.” she nosed her face into your neck.
“whatever you want.”
you ran your hand down her back, nails gently scratching as you went. she sighed and pressed a kiss to your collarbone.
she could do anything she wants to she could do whatever she wants to do she could go home, but she’s not going to...
“i could just lay here forever. how are you so comfortable?” you laughed, shaking abby’s head. “are you laughing at me?” she looked up at you, shocked, as you tried to hide the giggles. “oh my god, you are totally laughing at me! i’ll give you something to laugh about.”
you yelled out just as she gets her fingers in your sides, tickling you. “fuck off! abby stop, shit!” you laughed and tried to push her off, but to no avail. “abby please! im sorry!”
she let up, pulling you to her. “i know, i know.” she smiled, she couldn’t help it. “i love you, you know.”
“i know.” you nodded, leaning on her chest to look up at her. “im so proud of you. you’ve been through so much and look at you.”
so we spent what was left of our serotonin to chew on our cheeks and stare at the moon
“all i did was survive. same as you.”
but you shook your head, sitting up to have this conversation.
“no, not you. manny, owen, mel... your dad. you’ve just, you’ve lost so much.” your hand cupped her cheek and abby gently gripped your wrist. “and then when ellie found you,” you took a breath. “fuck, i thought you died abby. you and lev, i thought you were dead. everyone else was and i couldn’t get you out of my head.” she followed the tear that tracked down your face.
“and then i stumbled across you and lev, and i just couldn’t believe it. i couldn’t believe you were alive.” you sniffed, throwing a smile her way. “and you didn’t even take a second to worry about yourself when we got here, just wanting to take care of lev and i.” you thumb rubbed her cheek gently.
said she knows she lived through it to get to this moment ate a sleeve of saltines on my floor and i knew
“can i be honest?” you nodded, scooting closer to her. “i didnt think i was gonna make it. and, i dont think i cared if i died...” tears filled her eyes but she kept going. “and then, ellie was there. she helped me down, and i saw lev, and i knew i had to get out of there. i had to see you again.
“so i fought ellie, and i didnt give up. i had to help lev, and i had to know you were okay.” she smiled and leaned her forehead against yours. “and it was the one decision i don’t regret. im glad i made it out and back to you.”
she pressed a gentle kiss on your lips and pulled you close to her.
“glad to know you care about me.”
“oh my god lev, go fuck off!”
i would do anything you want me to i would do anything for you i would do anything, i would do anything whatever you want me to do, i will do

blueberry muffin tea! (ask-farmer-mona)
@ask-farmer-mona
Blueberry-Muffin tea: Tell me a memory, which makes you smile.
“A memory that makes me smile..” Thea thought for a moment before her face lit up and a smile spread across her face. “My sixteenth birthday- see, I’m already smiling just thinking about it!” Thea chuckled softly and pointed at her smile.
“I’ve never really had a real birthday party since I was like- eight. But fifteen year old me was set on having the magical sweet sixteen of my dreams. Every girl at school was starting to have one. I was so excited, escpecially since my mom had the most extravagant party for her birthday! Since she never mentioned it, I- very naively if I might add- thought she would throw me one. I barely had any friends to invite but I figured we would do something special!”
“So the big day finally comes around, I leave the house to go to school- nothing. I anxiously sit through the whole day, and the only person who even acknowledged it that day at school was Phoebe! My mom picks me up from school, we drive home.. I’m practically skipping to unlock our apartment door- and nothing. Just normal horrible apartment. I tried to brush it off, but I guess my mom noticed because she was irratated the rest of the night..” Thea sighs, as if remembering something less nice.
“But anyway, I didn’t have much in the pantry but I was able to bake myself a little birthday cupcake before I had to go to my room. It was kinda late at night and I was eating it on my bed when I heard a knock at my window. And who would it be but Phoebe sitting on the fire escape! I sat outside with her, and we talked for a while- and then she told me she brought something for me! And she took out this thing that she had whittled with her pocketkife. Nothing much, just a small bird- but I felt so happy that I just started crying-“ Thea laughed. “It was kind of embarrassing, and she was definitely confused for a minute there, but we talked some more and she made me feel a lot better. I have the bird somewhere around here, I remember packing it but I haven’t seen it since then.”

Lilith took a deep breath. She was on her last life, the adult looked up, didnt take her long, did it? Juliet was laughing, her masquerade mask off. She didnt even need the damn thing to be cruel. "You killed him!" Lilith accused, no fear in the girls voice "youre twenty six and hes already dead! Are you fucking proud of yourself you stupid bitch!?" Juliet looked at her "Roneo chose his fate the second he became a police officer" she hummed with a laugh. Lilith growled "next time be fucking careful who you kill. Whos next, your partner? You gonna kill Farah?" Lilith sneered, shes not afraid of Juliet, not one bit. "No, actually. I think ill kill you..the way your father and mother died sounds nice" "they are not my parents." Lilith laughed, Juliet rolled her eyes, looking at Lilith "whatever you say, Nazi" "bitch-" "still defending your fathers race" Julet tsk'd, grabbing Liliths wrists by the rope tying them together. She tugged her into an empty room, besides a chair. Lilith was thrown to the ground, and the girl forced herself aganist a wall to wiggle to her feet. "Im not on my last life, idiot" lilith lied smoothly, but Juliet chuckled, holding up a book. Lilith recognzed it instantly. "What- what did you do to Jaiden! What did you do to him!" Lilith screamed, worry in her tone in seconds. "None of your concern." The door shut and Juliet backed up..the room started heating up, buzzing coming from the walls, which Lilith stepped away from. "If youd like, sit down, i let my favored actors die comfortably" Juliets voice purred, and Lilith just paced around the room, before a drop of something hit the ground infront of her..is that..ink? She felt something in her back, it shocked her, literally. Electricity forced its way up her spine, and she screamed, this wws not how she died, no. Nonono. She had to get out dammit. She ran over to the chair, sliding her arms over the arm of it, tugging as hard as she could.. snap!
her ropes broke. Well now her wrists sting. Whatever. She ran and hit the door, trying to force it open. How cone her werecat strength isnt kicking in?! Dammit dammit no! "Thats not gonna work, princess" so first shes a nazi, now the princess of france. "Fuck you, Julie." She growled, she felt more electricity course through her, damn it hurt, she forced herself to stay upright, she had to take it...she looked down. The ink. It came from the liquid of the ink. Dammit. Smart, arent you Juliet? ...ruin her show. She went and sat down, forcing the pain off her face. She sat with one leg crossed over the other, head down. "...why arent you trying to escape?" Juliet growled after a few moments, Lilith smiled and rose her face "lets see. Im in a close l-locked room- elec-electricity cou-coursing through a p-poisonness  ri-rising liquid. I g-give up Juliet. Y-you got me. Guess im n-not i-invinc-able-" Lilith cheerfully laughed, her smile growing, her eyes were forced wide from the pain..she looked kind of terrifying. Juliet growled softly, what the fuck was this girl trying to do. No way Lilith Mires would just..give up. "Youre lying" "nope! I give up, kill me. You already killed Romeo. Probably Jaiden. Phoebe..i dont know, but if shes alive, shes fine without me until you obviously kill her to." She forced the stammer down, trying to sound braver. "So, whats the point of struggling to escape when youre doing me the favor, of not having me be alone?" She shrugged softly, before something snapped in her head, she looked down at the rising ink, it was almot raining it at this point. She slid off the chair, falling willingly into it, gulping in as much as possible. She heard Juliet screaming muffledly at her. She had ruined her show. Perfect...she felt it burning at her, electricity engulphing her nerves and starting to pop them, shut them down. The pain numbed after a few moments, and consciousness slipped.

Written By Her Husband, Joe.
Sally and Joe, we discover over the course of the evening, have had a rough year together; or more accurately, theyve had a rough year being apart as their marriage has been strained. Joe has been working out of London, Sally prefers her home in Los Angeles. As an actress, shes aging and less desirable for casting, even when the movie she wants to star in is based on a book inspired by her life. Written by her husband, Joe. Directed by her husband, Joe. Joe, who doesnt even like movies that much, even though her film career has enabled his expensive trans-Atlantic lifestyle and paid for their Runyon Canyon-adjacent, mid-century modern home atop of the Hollywood Hills. A coffee table picture book of a house in which only the most fabulous of parties are held and only the most fabulous of friends should be invited. (All the better to impress the little people who happen to live next door into submission over their complaints about a noisy Otis. Fabulous people dont complain about dogs barking at 4 A.M. and who wouldnt want to be fabulous enough to attend their party?) And what a party it shall be, what with guests like Kevin Kline, Phoebe Cates (who came out of retirement for the film at the behest of her best friend Leigh), Jane Adams, John C. Reilly, John Benjamin Hickey, Parker Posey, Jennifer Beals, Denis O'Hare, Mina Badie and Gwyneth Paltrow among others. With the exception of Posey who was a last-minute replacement, Leigh and Cummingwrote each character for The Anniversary Party with their real-life friends in mind, creating characters who are not exactly their pals, but could possibly be the person just to the left or right of them on any scale. If anything, it is seeing their worldview through the friends they cast that feels raw, even more voyeuristic than the subject matter itself; a couple celebrating their love surrounded by the people closest to them who know it might be too soon to pop the cork on their unending happiness. There is always an element of having to feel safe on a set, between actors and the material, and directors trusting their performers enough deliver what film needs, a relationship that has tried and destroyed many a Hollywood relationship. Watching The Anniversary Party it is hard not to feel the warmth Leigh and Cummingfeel for each one of their actors and the respect and faith they receive in turn from their cast. (In a somewhat meta moment, John C. Reilly, playing director Mac Forsyth, is discovered by Sally watching dailies of his current movie in which she happens to star in a back room shaking his head in worried disbelief at how poor her performance is in the film and how his career is going to be over if the movie flops.) Its the trust established by actors-turned-directors working with actors that helps make The Anniversary Party feel just as intimate as the setting, and when paired with the early use of digital to pull in as tight as possible when quite literally and figuratively someone is in the closet, the viewer almost feels dirty seeing the ugliness hiding in some quarters, much like a party guest who opens a medicine cabinet only to discover a truth about a friend they did not want to know. It is because of this, just as it is hard to unravel the bits that are Leigh and the bits that are Cumming, it is also impossible to separate the film from being one of the first digital success stories without acknowledging how poorly digital filmmaking was regarded at the time. (And it is a film; the great John Bailey who was behind the lens for The Accidental Tourist, Ordinary Peopledid not shoot a wedding tape, nor did his wife, esteemed editor Carol Littleton, put together a movie that was any less cinematic despite the Avid use.) It is a shame when you go back and revisit reviews and interviews from 2001, the nearly apologetic tone in which JJL and Cummingtalk about using DV and the reviews that focused on where they felt DV had supposedly faltered or was distracting without fully embracing the story and the acting, because as a viewer in 2017 those issues are so incredibly minor you barely notice them, your modern eye is willing to smooth over the difference and allowthe movie to exist on its own merits. Combined together working with their friends, deftly shooting on video you can see the direct linage back to Leighs original inspiration, the early Dogme films of the 1990s. Leigh herself sung the praises of the first Dogme film, The Celebration, and would later star in the fourth Dogme film, 2000s The King Is Alive. Attracted to the idea that making a movie didnt have to be an overblown affair, one could work digitally and save yourself hours of setup (not to mention millions of dollars off the budget), Leigh, coming off a bad breakup and a Broadway revival of Cabaret, suggested to her stage co-star Cummingthey make a movie together, keeping the intimacy of the digital part of Dogme and working with friends on reasonably paced days as not to make everyone crazy. In 2001 making a small budget indie for a mere few million bucks in less than three weeks felt revolutionary. Even the short shooting time was lambasted by Craig Kilborn for only being 19 days because such brevity in production was looked down upon as unworthy and worse, untrustworthy. And they went for it, selling the pitch to Fine Line, and spending the next year writing and storyboarding knowing they needed to go into production as prepared as they possibly could be with such a limited amount of time and coverage, discovering what would work for not only their movie but allowtheir friends to shine. Leigh herself was involved for the entirety of the editing process, making sure the movie she and Cummingbirthed together got as much room to breathe as possible, purposely lingering over moments too long as to make viewers feel as if theyre as uncomfortable as everyone in scenes. The effort more than paid off. Jane Adams as Clair Forsyth, Macs actress wife who is starving herself back to pre-pregnancy weight and completely out of her mind with worry over both her child and her career, is a frenetic delight and you find yourself watching even the most subtle things she is doing in the background as she brings such a joy and lightness to every shot she is in. You genuinely miss seeing Cates on the screen, especially as the night wears on and her character Sophia Gold lets her guard down enough to have nothing but the most brutally honest conversation about not only what she thinks her best friend Sally should do but admitting to the failures in her own perfect life. John C. Reillys Mac is identifiable with anyone who has had to deal with professional jealousy, as well as his characters inability to show any sort of weakness, even in front of his friends. While much of the story isnt exactly new or groundbreaking, nor is the mechanism for truth (everyone gets high) original, the trials and tribulations feel timeless enough that The Anniversary Party could be happening in Los Angeles at this very moment, but instead of Gwyneth Paltrow being the young ingenue honored to be playing the role of her favorite living actress, she would be the one looking across the room reminding everyone shes still the it girl of the moment who could easily play 28 no wait, 25. Make no mistake, Leighs Sally is a fighter throughout the movie, and is every woman over age 35 still proving her worth, even when shes unconsciously trying to please everyone. This is especially true as the night grows long and she is forced to remind everyone this is her house, her rules and her marriage; no one else can lay claim to intimacy that only she and Joe share, the type of confidence that only comes with age, the confidence an ingenue shrinks away from. Ultimately The Anniversary Party should be considered just as vital to Leighs career as Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Single White Female, Georgia, Miami Blues or The Hateful Eight as it offers a complete expression of her as an artist. While we cant completely untangle the film from being a joint production, there are enough beats you can see as being uniquely Leigh throughout the movie and moments one can tell Cummingis bringing out the best in her, and vice versa.
