Introduction to my practice

My work uses temporary and ubiquitous materials to create works around the subject of humans inhabiting and contributing to an increasingly violent world.

 As a former fashion designer I often use traditional pattern-cutting and draping techniques performed on a large scale to create installations; bolts and cable ties emulate garment stitches and the materials are darted, twisted, and manipulated into forms and installations.

My work references architecture, psychology, oppression and the violence therein, in an attempt to understand the existence of human cruelty and the struggle for power, especially when directed toward women.

Installations often suggest oppositional downward and upward thrust of destructive masculine energy that spear and clamp soft materials and objects, symbolising the oppression and obliteration of the vulnerable.
