Purchase College

The Thomas brothers were inseparable as children. The "dynamic duo" they were called as they grew up together, playing and going on adventures. In 1777, John Thomas Jr. and Thomas Thomas, now men, inherited the land of their father and rather then bicker over who gets what, the two agreed to divide the land equally. The true definition of brothers. 

 It is unsure over the years how John Thomas Jr. met his end, but their is one recount that is rarely heard and seldom told. One day, a stranger came into town. To call her a woman would be an insult, as her beauty was never seen before by anyone in the town. She turned many heads, two in particular being the Thomas brothers, who were instantly enraptured by her charms. Thus the dynamic duo were separated as they each vowed to win her heart.

 The battle started small at first, each one buying expensive gifts and writing poetry in the attempts to woo her. When one had the upper hand, the other made a comeback. But as the battle raged on, the Thomas brothers grew angry and bitter to each other. They went from brothers to mortal enemies as the woman watched the events unfold intently. 

 Being unable to take the fighting anymore, the Thomas brothers decided to settle this the only way they knew how. Before the sun rose that morning, the two went out to the guest house on their land (the gate house). They took their paces and as the sun hit the town, shots were fired. John Thomas Jr. laid on the floor of the guest house as Thomas Thomas watched him breath his last breath. As the lights went out of John's eyes, all of Thomas' hatred was drained as if a spell had been broken over him. And when he looked at the woman he had won, he saw no beauty, but rather for what she truly was: a witch. She laughed at him and called him "Weak" as Thomas realized that he and his brother were being controlled the entire time. 

 As the Witch made her leave, thinking she had won, she failed to realize the influence and trust Thomas had with the town, as they rose up and restrained her. The town did all in their power to put down this sorcerous, but fire would not burn her, the noose would not suffocate her, and a bullet would not even penetrate her skin. With no other options, Thomas came up with the solution. On the day of John Thomas Jr.'s funeral, two holes were dug and two coffins were buried: John's body and a restrained witch. It is said that an unmarked grave can be found in the vicinity of Purchase college.

 No one knows why the witch did what she did. Some say she was an advocate for freedom, and wanted to punish the brothers for owning slaves and treating other human beings as cattle. Others believe she was in love with one thing and one thing alone: chaos itself. But what is known is that while she was being lowered into the ground, she proclaimed that she will treat this punishment as a vacation, a nice long nap. And once she wakes, she'll exact her revenge on all. So a word of caution to this tale: as you pass the graves of Purchase college, keep your silence so you can pay your respect to the dead and not wake up the sleeping horror that lurks underneath.
