Because I cannot get over Chu Ying’s disappearance, here are 3 ways that Shi Guang deals with grief
1. He buys a bike with his prize winnings. It’s a practical purchase and a convenient way to get around town. He doesn’t talk about how sometimes he goes as fast as he can to feel the wind on his face and he can almost hear a voice shouting in glee for him to go faster. He gets a rear rack but never puts anything on it.
2. He goes to Lan Yin Temple when the silence in his head gets too loud. Sometimes he’s not sure if he hallucinated everything, and he desperately wants to talk to someone else that actually knew Chu Ying. So, he goes to Lan Yin Temple and he plays go with Lazy Shifu.
3. He starts a go logbook for Chu Ying’s games. He starts with the game against Yu Liang at 8 years old, but has to ask Yu Liang to review it with him. He gets more confident in his memory as he gets closer to the present, even able to recall the game against Fang Xu. He keeps this logbook with the book of the Northern and Southern Dynasties. He’s not sure what he’ll do with it but it helps to remember.

sorry to bother, but I've got a question that's been bugging me for a little while. In chapter one of Anthony C. Yu Translation, it states the monkey kings birth rock as an 'immortal stone' then goes on to describe its size. how could a stone be immortal, or is a just a way to say it was favored by the heavens?
I'm not sure, but I've always considered it to be a kind of "scholar's rock" (gongshi, 供石), a category of gnarled, pitted stones that develop in nature. They are often seen in Chinese gardens. The rocks were historically viewed as stand-ins for qi (氣)-filled mountains far away from the cities and towns where scholar-cultivators lived. I wrote the following in an old college research paper:
It’s important to point out that the very first reference to Chinese gardens appears in the Book of Changes. The aforementioned material also states that “Grace [can be found] in the hills and gardens” (賁于丘園). Here, gardens are associated with the wilderness and not a plot in a private residence. The first unambiguous mention of gardens comes from the Songs of Chu (楚辭, Chu Ci, 4th-c. BCE), an anthology of poetry written during the latter part of the Zhou Dynasty. One famous verse known as “Summoning the Soul” (招魂, Zhao Hun) describes how a shaman (巫, Wu) struggles to entice the meandering spirit of an ailing king to return by reminding him of the beautiful women waiting for him “in your garden pavilion, by the long bed curtains”.[7] Such imperial gardens took on a new significance during the following Qin (221–206 BCE) and Han dynasties (206 BCE–220 CE) as certain emperors became obsessed with Daoist immortality and built microcosms of landscapes—rocks for mountains, ponds for rivers, and trees and plants for forests—within their palaces. The hope was to entice lofty immortals to settle there and teach them their secrets of longevity.
The first private pleasure gardens arose during the Han. There were two kinds, the extravagant park owned by the wealthy and the simple scholar’s retreat. The former was based on the great imperial hunting parks that served as a symbol for the emperor’s power since such spaces were stocked with exotic plants and animals gifted by conquered territories. Thus, the extravagant nature of these gardens served to broadcast the wealth and power of their owners. On the contrary, the latter were most likely born from privately owned vegetable gardens. The Book of Odes (詩經, 11th–7th-c. BCE), the oldest known collection of Chinese poetry, suggests that scholars during the Zhou dynasty already viewed their simple food gardens as relaxing places of leisure. The idea of a garden serving as a proxy for a mountain retreat was made popular by Tao Qian (陶潛, 365–427), a poet of the Six Dynasties period (220–589). His philosophy is best exemplified by poem number five of his “Twenty Poems After Drinking Wine” series:
I built my hut beside a traveled road
Yet hear no noise of passing carts and horses.
You would like to know how it is done?
With the mind detached, one’s place becomes remote.
Picking chrysanthemums by the eastern hedge
I catch sight of the distant southern hills:
The mountain air is lovely as the sun sets
And flocks of flying birds return together.
In these things is a fundamental truth
I would like to tell, but lack the words.
Here, shear concentration of will transports an individual to the mountains far away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. This implies that any setting can be one’s own personal Eden, even a garden.

Why you should watch Hikaru no Go (2020) Live Action
by me who just finished rewatching it for... idk 5th time now i guess... and I am having some emotions.
A very detailed and itemized review of the series is below. I would be happy if I convince one (1) person to watch this very underrated show.
What is it?
Also known as Qi hun, it is Chinese live action adaptation of Japanese manga Hikaru no Go by Yumi Hotta and Takeshi Obata
You might know Obata Sensei who also draw Death Note manga. So you know its manga already is awesome. There is also an anime adaptation.
It’s about board game Go and can be classified as sports manga/anime. Basically the plot is: a Go master haunts a boy and teaches him way of Go.
[The manga appears in the cdrama!]
So you have options…. But why should you watch the cdrama?
It's the cutest thing ever
I never seen anyone who watched it and did not like
Acting is very good especially the kid actor is one of the best I’ve ever seen
Do you want numbers? It has IMDB rating 8.6.
Although the story is not same as the original material, its one of the best adaptations ever. You will enjoy it whether you are a fan of the manga or a new audience.
The main character: Shi Guang (aka Hikaru in the original manga)
Look at him he’s so lovable!
He doesn’t know any Go in the beginning but he is a genius so he becomes one of the best young players in country in record time.
Young Shi Guang is so good at acting and he is so cute I love him.
[At some point he wears a t-shirt with "Agender" written on it so you can headcanon him as he/they nb icon]
The other main character: Chu Ying (aka Sai)
Not a Ghost!
Accidental time traveling spirit of a Go master of ancient times (Southern Liang Dynasty to be specific)
His goal is to achieve the “Divine Move” which is a Go term for a perfect play/move
No one but Shi Guang can see him.
He is Shi Guang's bff, mentor, and Go master.
He is a funny little guy (but not physically, the actor is quite tall)
Rival: Yu Liang (aka Akira)
Go prodigy and the son of 9-Dan Go master Yu Xiao Yang
He gets beaten by Shi Guang (actually it was Chu Ying) when they were children and he proceeds to construct his whole life around him
He is obsessed™
Actually both Shi Guang and Yu Liang are so obsessed with each other. They have this passive aggressive relationship which is so interesting and also (again) very cute.
Likes to hold Shi Guang’s hand and run
Friends! Friends everywhere!
Shi Guang is a very sociable character so he is surrounded with friends and family
His relationship with his mother (unfortunately doesn’t have a name) is so realistic and so soft. They are not perfect mother-son but they love each other and they show it.
Actually, Shi Guang is very affectionate with all friends so you might die from all the fluff.
Plot
Shi Guang meets with Chu Ying when he is very young. Chu Ying forces him to play Go. He plays for Chu Ying. Against Yu Liang twice. And enters a tournament and of course wins.
But he feels bad for the other kids who work very hard so he drops Go completely for 8+ years. During that time Chu Ying disappears
He is forced to play Go again in middle school because everyone thinks he is some sort of prodigy while he knows next to nothing
Chu Ying appears again and they play together.
Shi Guang then decides to learn and play by himself.
The rest is regular sports manga/anime plot.
Towards the end the drama hits you hard and rips your heart out but last two episodes are so fluffy that by the end you will feel so much better.
Ships? In this shipping website? More likely than you might think
So many shippable pairs... like all sports manga/anime fashion they come in pairs
From students to teachers... with the main pair being Shi Guang/Yu Liang
Other than slash, there are also many platonic options that you might consider
By the end of last episode, all your ships will be as canon as cdramas would allow and no I’m not kidding the final arc is all about being the perfect partner (in Go).

All is good, what about down sides you ask?
Not many female characters or female relationships.
Go ahead then! Watch it! Enjoy it!

three ships: 1) i regret to inform everyone that my naruto phase has returned stronger than ever in the year 2022 and it came with a brainrot-like obsession with sns 😔 i promise they aren’t another “two guys in a shounen manga have a few meaningful interactions w each other and thus get shipped together,” they are legitimately one of the most intense, emotionally-charged ships ever,,, 2) shi guang/yu liang (shindou hikaru/touya akira) from qi hun/hikaru no go still have me by the throat always 3) shenshen x happiness and money
