I doubt we will have a resurrection Arc for season two of third life so I’m just thinking about renchanting.
Ren never understands why he’s so interested by Martyn. He doesn’t get why no matter how hard he tries sometimes something in his heart is to be with the other. He ingores the feelings not trusting the blond.
With Martyn he was more vocal with his feeling towards Ren. He wanted to understand this feeling but Ren wasn’t willing.
Being near Martyn filled Ren with guilt for some reason. And worst of all he couldn’t bare seeing the other with an axe in hand. He felt fear whenever the other would hold one in hand.
Martyn felt protective over Ren. He sees the other get on his yellow life and has some sort of feeling he should have been there. Like he could have stopped it no matter what side they are on.
All of the feelings went unexplained until eventually they meet again in the after.

If I had the tools I want to track the use of the #treebark tag. Did it spike after the Martyn quote post. How did the “queercodes your dogwarts” tag spread. When did the subgeneres of treebark tags (specific to certain blogs) appear. The fandom at this point is going to be more interesting than the thing we’re all invested in

ren doesnt want to hurt martyn. he never has. hes faced temptation time and time again, swayed by the heat of the blood in his veins begging ren to hurt him. but every time ren resists it. he begs martyn to step off the bridge - both to ease the temptation, and to put martyn in a safer position, where no other reds would be able to come along and do what ren cannot. ren becomes blinded by the blood but even at his lowest he has a moment of clarity and begs for martyn to hold him. despite being in different factions they shared their lives, fostered an alliance between them and stuck it through to the end. even when they're not allied, or not supposed to be allied, martyn is still ren's weak spot, the only person who consistently has made ren come to his senses - even briefly - just by being himself. FUCK

I'm thinking about the fact that this is the first game Ren and Martyn haven't died within seconds of each other. Martyn still has an extra life, even.
YEAH. YEAH. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME REN ISNT THERE FOR THE FINAL BATTLE. we've never seen one of them without the other (in the life series). MAN.

actually losing my mind at Martyn's episode
it's the way martyn responds to mumbo being in mortal peril by accidentally blocking him in with a piglin brute and then blocking off the path above with obsidian; but when he finds ren sad and trying to burn himself just to feel something martyn immediately runs to ren to extinguish it.
martyn laughs and calls ren a loser, but he runs to ren again, sprinting through the forest to save him from the flames, from himself
martyn sits alone with ren at the top of a tower and tells him about a business he's been thinking about, and ren points out it needs work, and martyn responds as if them working together was a foregone conclusion
martyn sees ren for the first time in ages and something tells him to share, and so he passes ren one of his most valuable resources - nether wart. and ren doesn't even notice it, but he uses that nether wart to barter with lizzie for a third life (and then swears his sword to her; "how long? until you're yellow? red?" martyn asks. "for life. you know how i roll," ren replies easily.)
it's the way that ren cant be part of martyns club, but ren opens his doors to martyn anyway. "you're always welcome here," he says.
the way ren has been so, so alone and desperate for companionship and martyn is the first to take him up on it
tl;dr Guess I Gotta Keep Breaking Down Treebark In Every Week Of Third Life Because I Gotta Also Do It For Last Life

ren setting himself on fire (in week 2) is a cry for help/attention directed SPECIFICALLY at martyn.
in martyn's episode 2 ren sets himself on fire twice, one time from a large distance and martyn runs to him to put it out
in the first scene ren is talking about how lonely he is and sounding very sad; martyn tries to invite him to the aha-lliance and ren fails the test
the second time, ren is standing at the top of his tower appearing to be giving his outro and he makes eye contact with martyn before setting the tower on fire, which causes martyn to run and put it out. when martyn arrives, ren (still in the burning building) is giving an outro where he plays up how sad and lonely he is
BUT
In Ren's episode, his outro is actually given in an unburnt tower, while he cooks food - hes not standing outside at all
MEANING
Ren deliberately got Martyn's attention by putting himself in danger and then when Martyn showed up Ren acted sad in the way dogs do so he could try and get Martyn to take him back.

summary of ren and martyn's relationship week by week, with a splash of red army (part one, weeks 1-3)
(part 2 / part 3)
week 1: martyn pranks & steals from ren. ren shelters martyn, who convinces ren to hire him. martyn mostly views ren as a boss and as a kind stranger, but comments that he is "eternally indebted" to ren, and becomes angry at the village people on ren's behalf. ren, meanwhile, views martyn as an important ally, but also thinks he is an "amazing person" and seems to hold martyn in high regard. however, ren doesn't fully trust martyn, and becomes concerned that martyn had started a raid and would be too chaotic for ren. (in truth, martyn just had bad omen.) ren was already laying the foundations for the red army as far back as week one.
week 2: martyn plans to use bad omen to mess with the village people and kinda get revenge for the previous events. martyn is friends with ren but mostly discusses him/his presence as an ally and as the owner of the couch he's crashing on, basically. there are issues of trust and keeping secrets between them (ren knows about pizza, martyn's ender chest, and martyn being quietly disappointed in ren for sharing so many secrets). notably, martyn spends most of this week away from dogwarts interacting with other players. ren, meanwhile, is keenly aware of martyn's troublemaking nature and seems almost overwhelmed by it at times. as events progress, ren notices martyn's sketchy behavior re: the ender chest (why not keep it in renchanting with the stash?) and becomes anxious that his choices with the llama situation have driven martyn away.
week 3: martyn starts spending more time at dogwarts. ren decides to be better at keeping secrets and more trustworthy (out of threat of violence from cleo and out of fear of losing martyn), and then later proves that to martyn by sticking up for himself and refusing to give scar the enchantment table. they start actively working together and identifying themselves as a unit - ren says that he "has martyn to think about", martyn often calling ren "boss" and referring to himself as ren's employee. martyn more closely unites with ren in opposition to scar, expressing more outward concern about ren's safety than before. ren, meanwhile, directly tells the audience in his closing thoughts that he stood up to scar to show martyn he was "serious", that being his ally means ren will never betray you (im going to put never gonna give you up on my martyn and ren playlist), and that he hopes he proved that loyalty to martyn enough to regain his faith.
