Royal sisters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are marking Armistice Day by visiting with veterans.
Eugenie shared on her Instagram (November 11) that they visited Royal British Legion Industries—a charity that provides vital care, welfare and employment services to Armed Forces veterans across the UK.
She wrote:
"We met incredible veterans who have completed RBLI’s #Lifeworks employability programme. It was wonderful to see the programme in action at the charity’s social enterprise factory which provides meaningful employment to veterans."
The two sisters then visited Queen Elizabeth Court, an assisted living facility. There, Eugenie writes:
"I also met Vi, who told me she served with my late Grandmother, which brought me such pride."
She ended her Instagram post with a tribute to veterans, writing:
"This Armistice Day we remember and pay tribute to the Fallen, the inspiring veterans and those currently serving in the Armed Forces across the world."
Both sisters affixed poppy pins to their jackets, which members of the royal family (and other Brits) typically wear during November to honor fallen troops.
The poppy comes from a poem "In Flanders Fields" by John McCrae, who wrote, "In Flanders' fields the poppies blow / Between the crosses, row on row..."

Age UK says millions of over 60s living a 'soulless life' without money for eating out or holidays
New Post has been published on https://petnews2day.com/pet-industry-news/pet-charities/age-uk-says-millions-of-over-60s-living-a-soulless-life-without-money-for-eating-out-or-holidays/
Age UK says millions of over 60s living a 'soulless life' without money for eating out or holidays
The charity surveyed 1,301 adults aged 60 and over about households changing their lifestyles to make ends meet.
Asked whether they had been forced to cut back on social and leisure activities such as eating out, holidays and physical activities, 42 per cent of respondents agreed. The figure is equivalent to around 6.9 million people.
This figure is on top of the 1.2 million older people in the UK that Age UK warns are already struggling with loneliness.
Older people foregoing essentials
Responding to the figures, Caroline Abrahams, charity director at Age UK, said: “Older people on low and modest incomes are really feeling the pinch at present and many are reducing or cutting out their discretionary spending altogether.
“This means they are having to forego all but the essentials of everyday life, like food and utilities. Looking after pets is becoming quite a stretch for some and suddenly little treats like lunch with a friend at a local pub, or a trip into town to visit the theatre or cinema may be financially out of reach.
“For those living alone especially, this makes life rather soulless and certainly much more solitary, because such activities are precious opportunities for companionship.
“The way in which lack of funds is reducing many older people’s social lives and breeding loneliness, even among those who normally feel immune, is one of the important, but less obvious harms brought on by inflation.
“It helps to explain why most older people feel so strongly about the restoration of the triple lock next year: this offers much needed hope of better times to come, before it is too late for them to enjoy them.”
The data come as the charity launches a new film, Fred’s World, featuring a voiceover by Gabby Logan, the sports presenter, to raise awareness of the issue of loneliness among older people.
The film spans decades and follows the relationship of football fan Fred and his wife as they watch national sporting moments together and highlights how, for too many older people, their world becomes smaller when their support networks fall away.
Age UK is one of four charities supported by this year’s Telegraph Christmas Charity Appeal. The others are Macmillan Cancer Support, RBLI and Action for Children. To make a donation, please visit telegraph.co.uk/2022appeal or call 0151 284 1927

Her Majesty The Queen visited the Royal British Legion Industries Village in Aylesford, Kent, to celebrate the charity’s centenary year. 6 November 2019 . The Queen officially opened the new Appleton Lodge care facility & visited the Centenary Village housing project for veterans & their families, marking the beginning of the next stage of its development. . At the Appleton Lodge, named after WWI frontline nurse Edith Appleton, The Queen saw how the new development has been designed to provide high quality care to 15 residents, as well as offering day care for locals who need support with health, nutritional, social & daily living needs. During the visit, The Queen also saw how residents are benefitting from the recreational & social activities on offer, including arts & crafts, flower arranging & reading sessions with local schoolchildren. Her Majesty met RBLI village’s eldest resident, 99-year old WWII veteran John Riggs, and his family, & finally unveiled a plaque to officially open the facility. . The Queen then visited the Centenary Village, to see the completed first phase of the development, which includes 24 specially-adapted apartments for wounded former military personnel. Her Majesty was shown plans for the next phase, which will support hundreds of ex-servicemen & women into the future. Her Majesty met village residents & staff of the on-site social enterprise, ‘Britain’s Bravest Manufacturing Company’ & joined a lunch celebration for the charity’s 100th anniversary. To commemorate the visit, Her Majesty also buried a time capsule, which will be opened in 100 years time by future residents. . The capsule contained a booklet with residents’ stories, a formal invitation & program for today’s events, a copy of The Times newspaper, a commemorative coin, and a pledge for the future from the charity’s chief executive. There was also a letter from Her Majesty, which included the words: "Today is a moment of celebration, but also a time of reflection on the sacrifices the Armed Forces make in times of need." .
