About the Author

DEVIN ALLEN is a self-taught artist, born and raised in West Baltimore. He gained national attention when his photograph of the Baltimore Uprising was published on the cover of Time magazine in May 2015—only the third time the work of an amateur photographer had been featured. He is winner of the 2017 Gordon Parks Foundation Fellowship. Also in 2017, he was nominated for an NAACP Image Award as a debut author for his book A Beautiful Ghetto. His photographs have been published in New York Magazine, the New York Times, the Washington Post, and Aperture, and are also in the permanent collections of the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC, the Reginald F. Lewis Museum in Baltimore, and the Studio Museum in Harlem. He is the founder of Through Their Eyes, a youth photography educational program, and recipient of an award from the Maryland Commission on African American History and Culture for dynamic leadership in the arts and activism. He lives in Baltimore.

Reginald F. Lewis (December 7, 1942 – January 19, 1993), was a businessman. He was one of the richest African-American men in the 1980s, and the first African American to build a billion-dollar company, TLC Beatrice International Holdings Inc. Recruited to top New York law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP immediately after law school, he left to start his firm two years later. After 15 years as a corporate lawyer with his practice, he moved to the other side of the table by creating TLC Group L.P., a venture capital firm, in 1983. His first major deal was the purchase of the McCall Pattern Company, a home sewing pattern business, for $22.5 million. In 1987, he bought Beatrice International Foods from Beatrice Companies for $985 million, renaming it TLC Beatrice International Holdings Inc., a snack food, beverage, and grocery store conglomerate that was the largest African-American-owned and managed business in the US. TLC Beatrice reported revenue of $1.8 billion in 1987. At its peak in 1996, TLC Beatrice International Holdings Inc. had sales of $2.2 billion and was number 512 on Fortune magazine's list of 1,000 largest companies. He won a football scholarship to Virginia State University and joined the Alpha Phi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi while an undergraduate student. The Forman Family: The Gryffindor Gang

Mottos (there are two):

The definition of "what you can do for your country" varies between Red and Eric and Donna. With Kitty stuck in the middle.

Current/Former Members: Most Formans since the beginning of time, sans Martin "Marty" Forman (Hufflepuff) and Laurie Forman (Slytherin).

Reginald "Red" Forman: The pinnacle ex-Gryffindor. War hero, retired mechanic.

Katherine "Kitty" Forman (nee Sigurdson): With obvious shades of Hufflepuff. The Molly Weasley type, the mother hen, and a retired nurse. Protecting her babies, her children and her grandchildren, and tending to their wounds.

Eric Forman: With obvious shades of Hufflepuff. A history teacher, with a big heart and a lot of nerve. Putting himself out there, way out there, to help others.

And back in the day, Eric crossed his fingers, and hoped he'd be put in Gryffindor like his predecessors, not into Hufflepuff like Marty. The sorting hat relented. Without his courage to stand up for others, he can only help so much, he later posits.

Donna Pinciotti-Forman (nee Pinciotti): With shades of Ravenclaw. She didn't take anyone's shit then, and she sure as hell doesn't now. As a progressive co-editor of the Chicago Sun-Times, she butts heads on a daily basis.

Adrian Forman (Laurie's son): Honorable, avid Quidditch player. Or in the real world, an honorable, avid soccer player. Or football, as everyone else in the world calls it.

Katherine "Kate" Forman (Eric and Donna's daughter): Head girl/class president, duh. Plus, the Hermione of her generation.

Leah Forman (Eric and Donna's daughter): Is brave and occasionally reckless, and is busy...collaborating...with a Slytherin.

Leah (wrapping her arm around James, with a dirty smirk): I let you slither in.

James (with a familiar, dirty smirk): Hey, you open the door.

Leah: And you love me.

James (blushing, kissing her): Yeah.

Eric and Donna hear them, from the kitchen...

Eric (horrified): My ears are bleeding!

Leah: At least you're not blind!

Donna (particularly disgusted): Leah, what the hell?

Leah: It could always be worse!
