High School Musical 2 Review
Tumblr media
Yes, I pride myself on my movie collection, but man, do I love this movie! I know it isn’t high art by any means, but it’s just to much fun that I can’t help it. It’s infectious. The bright colors, the even brighter music, it all just comes together in this great little movie musical that I can watch over and over again and never get tired of it.
Now, this is peak Efron. I know during this movie, Zac Efron was also filming Hairspray, another of my favorite movie musicals. Yes, he’s not the best actor, but he has charisma, and that takes him places in this story. The rest of the cast is great too, especially Ashley Tisdale as Sharpay Evans. She’s going places, I’ll tell ya.
Tumblr media
And, yes, I know it’s a piece of Disney Channel (not even just plain Disney) pop culture, so it definitely has its problems. It can be shallow at times, and you feel second hand embarrassment for thee actors at other points. But, man, like I said before, this movie is bright and fun. And sometimes we just need that in our lives.
So, all in all, you can judge me all you want, but I really love this trilogy. Like I said before, it isn’t the highest art, but man is it fun. And right now, with a pandemic happening and unemployment running rampant, fun is something that’s good to have.
I think this second film is my favorite though. Nothing beats those bright colors and that performance of “Bet On It,” I’ll tell ya. Classic movie all around.
Tumblr media
(And, yes, if you’re wondering, I did just watch this tonight.)

I always liked Candace with reservations that she was a teenage girl stereotype, but as I have aged, she’s become one of my favorite characters across different medias - narratively, I love just the depth to which she’s allowed to be dynamic, complicated, shallow, selfish, overbearing, and insecure, especially in later seasons, while still being someone you root for. The fact that “Monster from the Id” revolves around her?? The attention to her agonized animation in “Mommy Can You Hear Me?” and Ashley Tisdale’s voice acting?? The evolution of her trying to decide whether to save Phineas and Ferb in “Traffic Cam Caper” to switching priorities as soon as they’re in danger in the video game episode and Last Day of Summer??
Every showcase of her and Stacy’s friendship just makes me so happy! There are times where the episode just treats Stacy as an expositional soundboard but overall they’re just amazing
I also love that Candace Against the Universe placed more of a spotlight on Candace, didn’t make Vanessa the object of Ferb’s pining but a person who reaches out to help Candace, and gave Candace more female relationships!

For the sending you a character thing could you maybe do Candace Flynn please? :)
Hi anon! And of COURSE!!
Favorite thing about them: I love how relatable she is! Candace being overwhelmed with life and feeling stuck/discouraged and frustrated is just, a big ‘ol mood, especially as I’ve gotten older. “The Universe is Against Me” is very therapeutic to sing for those reasons! I also love the moments when she is genuinely a kind older sister, like in “Dude We’re Getting the Band Back Together” or the end of “Summer Belongs To You.” I also love her friendship with Isabella (especially in the later seasons), it’s just really sweet! Candace helping Isabella out with her crush on Phineas (or just reacting to it in a deadpan way) is so so soooo so great! (Basically big sister Candace. Yes.) Candace is also just, SO FUNNY. Both with her dialogue and physical comedy. She’s a great character. (On a personal note, I also relate to her struggle with not wanting to drive right away! I was the same way, and thinking about Candace made me feel better about my own struggles!) Also her SINGING. YES. I love Ashley Tisdale. ...Ok, now that I’ve said lots of nice things about Candace...onto the next question😅
least favorite thing about them: sometimes Candace is just, very unkind. Like, I KNOW she has her own struggles and I’d never want to invalidate those.....but she is just so MEAN to Phineas and Ferb sometimes for no real reason (particularly in earlier episodes). Like, in the Christmas special for instance, she continuously laughs off Phineas and Ferb’s desire to write letters to Santa (but then USES this idea in a scheme to figure out what gift Jeremy wants, so it’s hypocritical on her part) (EDIT: i wouldn’t change the “letters to Santa??” bit, btw, it’s pretty funny!! but it illustrates my point) and THEN puts the thought in Phineas’s head that he might be the reason all of Danville was deemed naughty, which DEVASTATES him. I think the saddest part is that, 95% of the time, Phineas and Ferb are nothing but kind to her. It makes her occasional spitefulness towards them seem so JARRING. (And again I KNOW she struggles with her own issues and feeling inferior, CATU especially made that apparent, and I get it! But that doesn’t make it okay for her to be mean to her brothers, you know?). Also scenes where she says something nice to Jeremy and then rude to her brothers...idk, it just rubs me the wrong way. (I also dislike it STRONGLY when she is condescending to Isabella. I think this only happens, like, twice...but Isabella is my fave so I’ll never forget, LOL)
Favorite line: oh MAN how do I CHOOSE??? She’s got so many iconic lines. Maybeeee: “It’s SO not fair! I mean why am I still on sock detail when Gladys from accounting got promoted to commander and she doesn’t even know hold to hold a blaster!!! No I mean, really, she failed that part of the exam three times, she held it backwards AND upside down but she’s a second cousin to some mid-level darth and so SHE gets the promotion?? What about ME??? If they would just open their eyes, they’d see that I’ve got everything it takes, I COULD BE THE STORMIEST STORM TROOPER EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!” Oh i also like (in reference to lumpy tables) “it’s the new hip-thing, it’s so European!!!” And also “Though I’ve often thought of you as just a nuisance and a bother, today I can’t imagine havin’ better little brothers!”
BrOTP: Candace and Stacy, 100%!! I love them and their friendship SO much, it really feels genuine (especially as their characters develop more). Their subplot in “Canderemy” is one of my favorite Candace plot lines in the show, it’s so funny and so sweet at the end (and a welcome distraction from a certain OTHER subplot in that episode.....yes I’m still mad about the ending🙃)
OTP: CANDEREMY! I’ll be honest, when I was younger, Canderemy kind of annoyed me because Phinabella was my fave and I always got mad when Candace had better luck with love than Isabella (because Candace was mean and Isabella wasn’t and I identified with Isabella and like, I’m just trying to give y’all a picture of younger me😂). But now that Phinabella is canon and I’ve gotten older, I really, REALLY appreciate Candace and Jeremy. Candace doesn’t have to act a certain way for Jeremy to like her: he likes her just the way she is and actively DISCOURAGES her from changing her identity just to appeal to him more. That’s so refreshing and wonderful to see in media aimed at kids/teens. I love that, for the majority of the show, they’re either “talking” or in a relationship and it’s just, a healthy relationship! No multi-episode arcs about them breaking up, no love triangles, no petty arguments (sometimes the show leans into these tropes for an episode, but that’s it. And it’s always resolved). They genuinely care about one another, and I think it’s really sweet. (Plus a Canderemy wedding is RIFE with possibility for pre-relationship Phinabella moments👀)
nOTP: I don’t have any specific nOTPS for Candace, so I’ll just say I’m fine with any ship between her and someone her age (that she isn’t related to, obviously. AND THAT GOES FOR ALL MY SHIPS. I don’t want to say that on every one of these character posts so like, just know. That is where i stand.)
Random headcanon: Candace and Jeremy adopted Fred. I just think it’s a sweet headcanon 🥺. Alsooooo ok this doesn’t specifically revolve around Candace, but when she and Jeremy got married, Isabella and Phineas were both a part of the wedding party and Candace made SURE they were paired together to walk down the isle💕. And Candace continues collecting Ducky Momo memerobilia well into adulthood!
Unpopular opinion: Candace isn’t a terrible, irredeemable character.....but she’s not a purely amazing character who can do no wrong either. I feel like some fans either despise her fully or love everything about her. I’m in the middle. I see her as a flawed character who was written by numerous people and thus is somewhat inconsistent in her characterization. I like it when she is characterized as kindhearted but easily overwhelmed and longing for validation, so that is how I choose to portray her in my own writing/headcanons.
Song I associate with them: look Candace sings so many FANTASTIC songs in the show that I can’t associate her with any other music. Like I guess Ashley Tisdale’s “Kiss the Girl” because there’s fics of her singing that to Phineas and Isabella and I think that’s adorable? (I know I wrote one of those waaaaaaay back in the day, LOL). But in general, every Candace song is great. “The Universe is Against Me” ESPECIALLY.
favorite picture of them: you know what Y’ALL GET FOUR PICTURES BECAUSE BIG SISTER CANDACE IS THE BEST OK
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thank you so much, anon! As you can see, I’ve got quite a few thoughts on Candace😅. At the end of the day, I think she’s a great character and I relate to her a lot! I had a ton of fun writing all these answers out.
This is the last ask I’m going to answer tonight, but I’m looking forward to answering more tomorrow!!!! 😁

Note
I was looking up Disney songs when I realized that the pop version of “Kiss the girl” was sung by Ashley Tisdale so AU where Stacy has huuuge crush on Vanessa and Candace is singing the song to hype Stacy up.
I love this, why is this such a good ship

Candace for the character asks!
How I feel about this character
Love her! Ashley Tisdale does a really good job with her, though sometimes I wonder how she doesn’t blow out her voice with all the screaming Candace does XD
My favorite things: Her friendships with Stacy and Vanessa and how they support her in ways only teenage girls can, her protectiveness of her brothers, her little one-sided animosity with Perry, and her love of Ducky Momo and how she goes from trying to hide it to openly sitting in a theater full of elementary schoolers for the movie and introducing Vanessa to it.
All the people I ship romantically with this character
Jeremy and Vanessa
My non-romantic OTP for this character
Stacy. I see them as more of a sister relationship.
My unpopular opinion about this character
Nothing against Candace, but if I watch too many eps in a row her screaming gets a little irritating for me.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
I think they kinda flip-flop all over the place with busting her brothers. She gets better about it later on, but I wish they wouldn’t reset her progress every few episodes.

To counteract the Baby Driver soundtrack which is made for and by straight dudes, I made a better playlist of songs that I would listen to while choreographically driving away from heists
“Dreams” by The Cranberries
“Get Busy” by Sean Paul
“(There’s Gotta Be) More to Life” by Stacie Orrico
“(You Drive Me) Crazy (The Stop Remix!)” by Britney Spears
“I Wanna Be Bad” by Willa Ford
“This Kiss” by Faith Hill
“Baby Come On Over” by Samantha Mumba
“Crazy in Love (feat. Jay-Z)” by Beyonce (there’s a funny moment where I turn it down and go through the McDonald’s drive thru during the Jay-Z verse)
“Be My Lover” by La Bouche
“I Didn’t Just Come Here to Dance” by Carly Rae Jepsen
“Any Man of Mine” by Shania Twain
“Pokemon Theme” by Jason Paige
“212 (feat. Lazy Jay)” by Azealia Banks
“It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” by Celine Dion
“Cold Hearted” by Paul Abdul
“Another Dumb Blonde” by Hoku (played ironically when I outsmart my enemies)
“Show Stopper” by Danity Kane
“He Said She Said” by Ashley Tisdale
“Give Me One Reason” by Tracy Chapman
“All the Things She Said” by t.A.T.u. (this is the big song that I listen to with Jon Hamm via shared headphones and then he plays it at me when he’s trying to kill me)

Every Disney Movie & TV Series Announced At D23 2019
Tumblr media
D23 Expo 2019 brought a number of reveals about Disney's upcoming slate of movies and TV shows. Taking place this past weekend, D23 is a fan event that sees the Mouse House give updates on some of its biggest properties, including Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and now Disney+.
This year's D23 had been at risk of being overshadowed by the collapse of Disney and Sony's Spider-Man deal, but the company did its best to get things back on track with a slew of big reveals. Among the many already announced projects that received updates were Black Panther 2, which now has an official release date, Frozen 2, with Evan Rachel Wood named amongst the cast, and Star Wars 9, with new BTS footage debuting and including a tease of a major plot twist in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Alongside all of that, Disney also made some brand-new announcements, unveiling a number of new movies and TV shows - most of which are set to be available to stream on Disney+ over the next couple of years.
Tumblr media
The bulk of Disney's animation slate was mostly centered around projects we already knew were happening, including Frozen 2 and Pixar's 2020 movies Onward and Soul, there was room for one new project: Raya and the Last Dragon. Written by Crazy Rich Asians' screenwriter Adele Lim, Raya and the Last Dragon will star Cassie Steele and Awkwafina in the lead roles. The film takes place in a land called Kumandra, where a warrior called Raya (Steele) searches for the last dragon (Awkwafina). Paul Briggs and Dean Wellins direct, with a release date of November 25, 2020.

Disney announced a new Spider-Man series at D23 Expo - albeit it wasn't the Spider-Man everyone was hoping they'd talk about. Amidst the breakdown of Marvel & Sony's deal for the use of Spider-Man in the MCU, Disney announced the first long-form Marvel series for Disney Junior, titled Spidey and His Amazing Friends. The animated series will see Peter Parker having to team-up with a number of other heroes, including Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy (a.k.a. Ghost-Spider), and the likes of Hulk and Black Panther.
Tumblr media
It'd previously been revealed that a Phineas and Ferb movie was in the works, but D23 Expo brought an announcement of exactly what it is, including a new title and some firmer plot details. Titled Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candace Against the Universe, the Disney+ film will see Phineas and Ferb traveling across the galaxy to rescue their sister Candace,  “who has been abducted by aliens and has found utopia in a far-off planet, free of pesky little brothers.” Vincent Martella and Ashley Tisdale are reprising their voice roles as Phineas and Candace, with David Errigo Jr. taking on the part of Ferb.

15 years after its original Disney Channel run ended, Lizzie McGuire is being revived for Disney+, with Hilary Duff set to return to one of her most famous roles. The original series documented Lizzie's trials and tribulations as a teenager, whereas this continuation will find Lizzie McGuire as a 30-year-old living in New York City - but presumably still with an animated avatar alongside her. It's unclear if any of the other original cast will return at this point, but creator Terri Minksy is involved in the production.
Tumblr media
It had previously been confirmed that The Muppets would be coming to Disney+ in some form, but at D23 Expo the details of The Muppets' return was confirmed. Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, and the rest of the gang will be appearing in a short-form series called Muppets Now, set to premiere on Disney+ in 2020. The series will reportedly be unscripted, allowing for all kinds of Muppets chaos, and will feature a number of celebrity guest stars. Disney has been struggling to find the right way to use The Muppets in recent years, with an ABC series swiftly canceled, but this sounds like it'll return the group back towards its roots.
Tumblr media
There are already a number of Marvel TV shows in the works for Disney+, including Loki, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision, What If...?, and Hawkeye, but D23 Expo still found room to announce more, including the long-expected confirmation that Ms. Marvel is coming to the MCU. Ms. Marvel, a.k.a. Kamala Khan, is a Pakistani American teenager who gains superpowers through Terrigenesis, and is a huge fan of Captain Marvel. Bisha K. Ali will serve as showrunner on Ms. Marvel, and the character will appear not only in her own Disney+ show, but MCU movies as well, which means it's quite likely fans will get to see a long-anticipated team-up between Ms. Marvel and Captain Marvel.
Tumblr media
Another MCU series announced at D23 Expo, and it's another one that Marvel fans have been clamoring after for years, Moon Knight is officially a go at Disney+. The character had long been linked with a Netflix series, since his brand of violent vigilantism lends itself well to a darker, more adult series, so it'll be interesting to see how that plays on Disney+. Moon Knight also suffers from dissociative identity disorder, meaning he is frequently confused between reality and hallucinations, which should allow for a very different kind of superhero story. Other details are scarce right now, but Marvel fans already have some ideas for who should be cast as Moon Knight.

The third and final MCU series announced for Disney+ is She-Hulk, with a TV show centered around Jennifer Walters in the works. In the comics, Walters is the cousin of Bruce Banner, who is given some of his blood after being in a severe accident, and the gamma radiation causes her to develop the same powers as the Hulk - with the key difference that she has greater control over them, and retains her intelligence. That's now happened in the MCU in Avengers: Endgame, but that movie also left the Hulk injured after his Snap, so that might be what results in Jennifer Walters becoming She-Hulk in the MCU, and quite possibly her eventually replacing the Hulk in the movies too. She-Hulk and the other Disney+ Marvel shows will all take place during Phase 4, so should have a big impact on the MCU going forward.
Tumblr media
Although reports of an Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series surfaced just before D23 Expo, it wasn't until the event itself that it was made official. At the end of the Star Wars section of the Disney+ panel, the biggest event from which was the release of The Mandalorian trailer, Ewan McGregor strode onto stage to incredible cheers, finally being able to confirm that, "Yes", he is playing Obi-Wan again. There aren't too many details about the series at this point, but we know it'll follow Obi-Wan Kenobi during his years on Tatooine - Disney's official timeline places it eight years after Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith - and will start shooting next year, with all the scripts for the Disney+ series already written.

For the character meme, Abby Griffin, Sam Carter, and... Candace from Phinneas & Ferb please! :)
Someone else asked for Sam so I’ll save that for their post, since you gave me two other awesome characters. :)
Abby Griffin
general opinion: fall in a hole and die | don’t like them | eh | they’re fine I guess | like them! | love them | actual love of my life
hotness level: get away from me | meh | neutral | theoretically hot but not my type | pretty hot | gorgeous! | 10/10 would bang
hogwarts house: gryffindor | slytherin | ravenclaw | hufflepuff
best quality: She doesn’t give up, ever. She LOVES her daughter (and her honorary kids) so, so much. When she makes mistakes, she works so hard to make amends.
worst quality: Sometimes she trusts the wrong people.
ship them with: I low-key ship Kabby. (So happy for the Kabby shippers right now, they’re getting such good stuff!)
brotp them with: Raven, Jackson, Murphy
needs to stay away from: ?
misc. thoughts: In a lot of the T100 fic I read, Abby tends to get written as someone who disapproves of her daughter, or who doesn’t get along with her daughter, and although I understand that in fiction you gotta have an antagonist, I’m not sure why so many people go to Abby for that? She and Clarke had a rough patch (understandably) early on in the series but it was clear to me from the very first episode how much Abby loves Clarke, and how hard she would fight for her to the bitter end. (Maybe it’s because I’m a mom myself? Idk.)
Candace Flynn
general opinion: fall in a hole and die | don’t like them | eh | they’re fine I guess | like them! | love them | actual love of my life
hotness level: get away from me | meh | neutral | theoretically hot but not my type | pretty hot | gorgeous! | 10/10 would bang
hogwarts house: gryffindor | slytherin | ravenclaw | hufflepuff (I’m thinking of the AU!Candace, and how that universe seemed to bring out a lot of very Gryffindor traits in her)
best quality: loyalty, bravery, creativity
worst quality: she’s fairly judgey sometimes, and can get a little too focused on proving her brothers did something they shouldn’t have done (but when the chips are down, she pretty much always does whatever protects and helps her brothers)
ship them with: Jeremy, I guess?
brotp them with: Phineas and Ferb, Stacy, Isabella (I think when they’re older they’ll be good friends)
needs to stay away from: something or someone, I’m sure, but it’s been ages since I’ve watched any P&F and even then I was mostly just in the room while my kids watched it.
misc. thoughts: As an older sister myself, I always identified and sympathized pretty strongly with Candace. And I think Ashley Tisdale did an amazing job voicing her!
Thanks, Jenn! 😘
send me a character!
