not kpop but you said you’ve done work in theater/musical theater right? what are some of your favorite shows?
my undergrad degree is in production design, i don't just work in theatre i went to theatre SCHOOL lmao. i did musical theatre for all four years of high school too. my fave musicals are hadestown, chess, phantom, and i looooove the original version of cats. i'm also kinda partial to the lord of the rings musical. and i know it's a mess but you can pry love never dies out of my cold dead hands that show is GORGEOUS. oh and roméo et juilette: de la haine à l'amour. favourite shakespeares are mackers, the tempest, and twelfth night. i've unsurprisingly seen (and read) a lot of plays; a small selection of the ones that were very formative for me are sarah ruhl's eurydice (saw a production that singlehandedly convinced me to go to theatre school), tennessee williams' cat on a hot tin roof (i love this play so fucking much, i did it for my third year directing class), and tom stoppard's arcadia + rosencrantz and guildenstern are dead (read both of these in high school lit class). there's a ton of really small scale stuff that's been very influential on me also, but i won't get into that bc it will either doxx me instantly or no one will know what i'm talking about.

Have you ever thought about Benvolio at the end of R&J feeling more like a ghost than all his dead friends and having to percieve the tragedy around him being mythologized and leaving him behind to mourn? well if you have, this one’s for you!

RetJ Subbed Valentine’s Stream
I have Sundays off work so I will be streaming at least 1 (if not 2) English subtitled Takarazuka productions of Romeo et Juliette on Valentine’s Day, February 14th!
Exact times to be decided, likely starting mid-morning in PST time zone.
Watch this space for further details! Please DM me or reply to this post if you want access, I haven’t yet decided how to host it but it will be secured in some way.
UPDATE: The stream will take place starting 10:30am PST, Sunday, Feb 14! We will watch the 2011 Snow Troupe production, and then, time permitting, the 2013 Star Troupe junior performance. Both shows will have English subtitles! I will send out access details (most likely cytube with a password) the morning of the stream.

RetJ Umeda Arts lyrics?
Does anyone, by any chance, have the Japanese lyrics from the Umeda Arts version of Romeo et Juliette? They were included in the cast recordings released in 2012 (both the Shirota Yu and Yamazaki Ikusaburo versions), but the CDs are out of print. I’m not sure if the lyrics were included in the programs, but those would work as well, even if they’re from later productions.
The Umeda Arts/Toho version uses a different set of lyrics as compared to the Takarazuka version for some songs.
I can trade you the Takarazuka 2011 RetJ CD, or something else from Takarazuka if you’re interested.

Returning from the depths to say that I've watched a billion versions of RetJ and I think I can say with certainty that my favorites are the 2004 Russian and 2011 Takarazuka versions. I don't think any production is objectively the best (they all have their good and bad points and everyone has different taste) but those are the ones that gripped me the most.
The wily Russians and cross-dressing Japanese. I should have known. *takes out a long cigarette and begins to smoke* They get to everyone in the end, chuck. It’s not just you. It’s them. It’s everybody. And if they haven’t gotten to you…they will. Just you wait.
