rick and morty s6 e1. since i do keep track of what goes on there, more so out of interest in where the disaster is gonna go next, figured might be kinda fun to write out quick reactions to each episode.
below the read more for those who care
s5's ending was quite the ending in a lot of ways, the citadel is blown up even harder then it was last time and there was a sense of unknown territory to tread going forward. personally i kinda hoped what would happen would be a slow trek back home over the course of s6s entirety focusing on rick and morty recontextualizing their relation and exploring new territory.
what we get instead is a hard cut to rick and morty about to die lifeboat at sea style well the rest of the remaining ricks and mortys in this area are either already dead or gone feral. then space beth shows up and bails em out. so we basically just jump all that. instead we get an episode that feels... exhausted if i had to describe it. most of the attention is given to tieing up loose ends basically well giving some basic set ups for later. portal gun travel is kaput for now, 'evil rick 2' from the fake not fake flashback of ricks past gets some teasing for doing stuff going forward, turns out evil rick 2 is from mortys original reality, and they've all jumped realities again after fucking up the earth [in this case because of a weird cute parasitic thing thats kinda funny in the inexplicable sense]. and on the other hand morty's original reality family are all dead, ricks original reality earth is all dead, turns out they did grab the wrong jerry from jerry daycare and s2 jerry is now also dead, space beth and beth resolve to not get on each others cases, rick and morty resolve to keep the positive relation building going forward, and the whole group have a 'none of us are who were suppose to be, but hey whatever families what ya make of it' vibe which i guess is the theme going forward.
but as i said it all feels just kinda tired. it wasnt the overwrought dramas they occasionally try and pull, it wasn't particularly irreverent comedy. it was just tired and obligatory.

Prickcest Speculation Masterpost
I wanted to gather together all of the little screenshots, gifs and hypothesises surrounding C-137's backstory, particularly in relation to Rick Prime
Comparisons
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the left is the Season 3 Deceptive memory that our Rick used to trick the federation. On the right is the scene from the memory Morty sees when he opens Rick's downloaded brain in season 5. Both are screenshots of C-137's final line before Prime leaves. In S3, C-137 says "A different kind of Rick, I guess" and in S5, we don't know what he's saying
C-137 looks very sad in the S5 memory. Prime's face looks stunned, rather than angry. If they had a previous relationship, we can guess that maybe C-137 is cutting Prime off in this scene or 'breaking up' with him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the left is the S3 screenshot and the right is S5. Both show Prime holding the portal gun out to C-137
In the S3 memory, it's shown to be the apparent first time C-137 has seen inter-reality technology like this. When Prime enters at all in this memory, C-137 looks completely shocked. In S5, Rick doesn't look taken off guard or surprised at all. This implies it wasn't the first time he'd seen the technology and the conversation wasn't likely centered around the creation and usage of it. Maybe Prime was offering to take C-137 with him on his travelling of the multiverse.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Left is S3, right is S5. Both are the scene where Prime is walking away.
While not as significant as the other differences, we can see that C-137 doesn't turn to look at Prime while he's leaving in S5. He doesn't need to watch as he walks away because he's seen the portal tech before, or maybe he can't bare to watch him leave.
Lines
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rick Prime talks about not teaming up anymore when talking to hermit Jerry in S6E1. In S6E10, C-137 goes on a rant to Morty about how when you let people in they stop respecting you and "kill your family". It's implied that Prime is the one who dropped the bomb that killed C-137's family, and it's what C-137 himself assumes, so he's clearly talking about Prime. This means that he and Prime definitely knew each other before the inciting incident, otherwise what C-137 says doesn't make sense.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In S6E1, we see a hologram C-137 used to help identify Prime in his search of revenge. We see this small clip matches up with what we see in S3. We do see that Prime says "Ricks don't pass on this", however we dont hear the rest of the conversation, so we don't know if it's actually about accepting portal travel or that it was the first time these two met.
Parallels
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We know that it is confirmed that C-137 was in love with Birdperson. We can see from Rick's memory of the Battle of Bloodridge, his argument with Bird Person very clearly parallels his falling out Prime, with both holding out a portal gun and then one leaving through a portal. This could imply there was a romantic or sexual connection between the two of them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We also see a parallel between Space Beth + Domestic Beth and Rick Prime + C-137. Domestic Beth and Space Beth fall in love with each other. Domestic Beth doesn't do any grand adventures, she's a horse surgeon and has a family, like C-137 did. Space Beth had adventures and travelled the universe, like Prime did.
Tumblr media
In Bethic Twinstinct, Space Beth says "You're the housewife, and I'm the space lady, and yet you're the one who chewed me up and spit me out?"
As I mentioned earlier, if we assume based off the body language in the season 5 memory that C-137 was most breaking things off with Prime. So Prime was also 'chewed up and spit out' despite being the epic space adventurer and not the family guy.
Beth also asks C-137 if he's "forgotten the ice cream before" (had relations with another version of himself), and he says "drill me for details when I'm drunker". Which, to me, implies he very much has.
The fact that rickcest was confirmed with this line in the same season we see C-137's "they kill your fucking family" line and Prime's "I don't team up anymore" line seems to be foreshadowing something.
Other Ideas
The "Cult" One
I first heard of this one in this video
youtube
Lonny proposes the idea that Prime was in fact going around and giving Ricks portal technology in order to recruit them into joining a group of Ricks. They points to Prime mentioning he specifically MANAGED people ("managing people is such a headache"), which implies a group of people.
They also bring up the wall of Ricks we see in the S5 flashback that C-137 uses to find more Ricks to kill. It may have been Prime's little cult following.
Tumblr media
It doesn't explain a lot of the stuff that implies a previous relationship with C-137, so I believe that the two ideas probably go hand in hand.
It's also worth pointing out that the wall of Ricks has what appears to be a citadel symbol. The only thing is, C-137 is apparently one of the founders of the Citadel, but we see him kill a large gathering of Ricks, and we see this citadel symbol pre-citadel.
I am literally only realizing this as I'm writing this post, so I don't have a put together idea of what it may mean. I think it's possible that maybe Evil Morty was involved in that original Rick Cult, because I don't think that symbol became the Citadel's until after he was elected. That's off the top of my head, though.
The "Time Travel" One
This one isn't one with much backing, however I think it's neat. Credit for this one goes to this Tumblr post.
This person suggested that maybe the reason C-137 hates time travel so much is because Prime might've lied and said he was C-137 from the future. He hates it because it was used to manipulate him
Misc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In S6E10, we briefly see a hologram of Prime that doesn't match with any footage we've seen of him before.
I don't have any clever comments about how this could fit into prickcest as I'm writing, but I would like to include it in case someone else has something to say about it.
My Personal Ideas
My take away from all the evidence I've presented has lead to my current idea of events:
Prime and C-137 had a healthy, romantic relationship. However, with C-137's wife and daughter, guilt started to eat away. He tried to talk to Prime about it and Prime's response was "run away with me and travel the multiverse" and C-137 just couldn't bare the thought of abandoning his family, so he broke things off with Prime. Prime was upset, "Rick's dont pass on" the opportunity to travel the infinite cosmos. "Rick's don't pass on" the opportunity to be with someone they love.
I hope you found this post to be comprehensive, and please PLEASE add on stuff in the notes!! We need to gather evidence! /lh

Rick and Morty Condensed Watch List
My friend wanted to watch rnm, but didn't want to sit through all 7 seasons- so I decided to make a list of the best/most lore important episodes that way they could enjoy the show without watching the whole thing. Red = episodes that are lore important Orange = not crucial for understanding the lore, but establishes character relationships and/or a consistent reference in the series yellow = episodes I'm personally a fan of (these are purely just recommendations for my friend, feel free to skip them)
s1e1 Pilot - first episode of the series, I'm sure this one is self-explanatory LOL s1e5 Meeseeks and Destroy - First Morty adventure, Introduces Meeseeks and "ricks catchphrase" (reoccurring), and does a good job of showing Beth/Jerry's relationship s1e6 Rick Potion #9 - Rick & Morty's dimension hop s1e7 Raising Gazorpazorp- sexy robot episode (my friend wants to watch this okay) s1e10 Close Rick-Counters of the Rick Kind - Introduces citadel s1e11 Ricksy Business - We meet a couple of Ricks close friends, some fun time stuff, and the season finale!! s2e1 A Rickle in Time - I couldn't really decide whether or not to keep this orange or red, since technically this specific ep isn't crucial to the understanding of the show. HOWEVER, still totally watch it because it wraps up the conclusion to season 1 AND its a great episode generally! s2e2 Mortynight Run - Introduces the Jerry daycare and Blips and Chitz (reoccurring) s2e3 Auto Erotic Assimilation - Introduces Unity s2e5 Get Schwifty - Introduces President, Learn more about Birdperson s2e9 Look Who’s Purging Now - Not plot relevant or brought up again in the series, but this episode has some Morty moments that I really like s2e10 The Wedding Squanchers - Meet the federation!! s3e1 The Rickshank Rickdemption - More citadel fun! And also szechuan sauce, very important. s3e3 Pickle Rick - Yes I'm putting pickle rick on here. This episode introduces Dr. Wong who's both a cool character and reoccurring. Although I wouldn't say this episode is as important as the other oranges, so If you really wanna skip it- go for it s3e6 Rest and Ricklaxation - TOXIC RICCCKK s3e7 The Ricklantis Mixup - More Citadel adventureeess! (<- Also this is where that fat Morty and lizard Morty GIF came from, thought you'd like to hear that) s3e8 Morty’s Mind Blowers - idk what to write for this one I just really enjoy this episode LOL s3e9 The ABC’s of Beth - We get an update on how Jerry's life is going, also some fun Beth development stuff e4e2 The Old Man and the Seat - big bad doo-doo daddy s4e10 Star Mort Rickturn of the Jerri - More federation stuff, and we get an update on clone beth s5e1 Mort Dinner Rick Andre - This one isn't THAT important of a watch so if you wanna skip it you honestly can, but we do get to meet Mr. Nimbus and find out what happens to Jessica. s5e8 Rickternal Friendshine of the Spotless Mort - Bird person update ALSO MEMORY RICCCCKKK s5e9 Forgetting Sarick Mortshall - Rick and two crows show s5e10 Rickmurai Jack - Citadel fun and also more of the extra sexy crow rick s6e1 Solaricks - MEET PRIME! s6e2 Rick: A Mort Well Lived - I haven't watched diehard which makes this episode funnier to me s6e3 Bethic Twinstinct - okayy I'll be honest, a lot of people dislike/feel weirded out by this episode (me included) but I still think it's worth including for contextualization because this ep explains why space beth's has a reoccurring presence in the family. So watch at your own discretion LOL s6e8 Analyze Piss - ignore the goofy ass title, because it is REALLY good. I love this ep so much s6e9 A Rick in King Mortur’s Mort - This episode isn't really lore important and doesn't introduce any reoccurring characters, BUT the adventure itself is referenced later on s6e10 Ricktional Mortpoon’s Rickmas Mortcation - rick with a stubble and boxers on (very important) but no seriously, this episode is important s7e1 How Poopy Got His Poop Back - Some Rick/friend shenanigans, also we get a brief update on birddaughter s7e3 Air Force Wong - Not really thaatt lore important? But we do get an update on unity which is super sweet s7e5 Unmortricken - "OH SHIT, Evil Morty! Should I get the net?" s7e9 Mort: Ragnarick - this episode is very very fun and also where that image of rick being crucified comes from ANYWAYS THATS IT! Season 7 still hasn't ended, but it ends later this week so I may or may not update the list for that. If anybody has any critiques/changes I should make to this list, please let me know!

Solaricks and Setup/Payoff
Tumblr media
Solaricks (s6e1) has become my favourite episode of Rick and Morty. There's several reasons why, but the one I'd like to talk about today is.
Solaricks is an excellent example of Chekhov's Gun (the dramatic principle that recommends details within a story will become important to the overall narrative later on).
It's comparable to the "spaghetti disaster" episode in s3e12 of Bojack Horseman--A culmination of various things introduced in different episodes all becoming important for one big event that is greater than the sum of its parts.
Tumblr media
In order for the overall plot beats of Solaricks to have happened, and for the viewers to have the full context of the different pieces, they will have watched the following episodes:
S5E10 Rickmurai Jack: The episode starts with Rick and Morty stranded in the Citadel with little hope of rescue. The place is in ruins and they can't portal out of there. This is the aftermath of the previous episode, which was season 5's finale.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
S4E10 Star Mort Rickturn of the Jerri: Rick and Morty are then rescued by Space Beth, who is introduced properly in Star Mort Rickturn of the Jerri. (There are also even earlier episodes that lead to her appearance, but her first speaking role is s4e10.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
S2E2 Mortynight Run: Near Solarick's start, Jerry starts glowing green and asks why. Rick explains that they're about to jump to their original dimensions. Jerry then realises he's not from their current dimension because he got swapped with another Jerry in the Jerryboree. An event we see at the end of Mortynight Run as a quick throwaway gag.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
S1E6 Rick Potion #9: Morty then gets teleported to a version of Earth that is overgrown, is full of hostile monsters, and meets an alternate version of his father, Jerry, who is now very different. This is the aftermath of the Rick Potion #9 episode wherein Morty and Rick left their version of Earth after being unable to save it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
S1E10 Close Rick-Counters of Rick Kind: The idea of dimension-hopping has been important to the show since episode 1, but we are only fully introduced to the concept that Rick and Morty can meet alternate version of themselves (and ones that are evil) in Close Rick-Counters of Rick Kind. This is key for this episode, as we meet Rick Prime, a version of Rick that is willing to kill his own grandson's father.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
S3E1 The Rickshank Redemption: We get a scene with Rick Prime, who was previously introduced in Rick's backstory, which Rick at the time had said was made up. This is later proven to be wrong in s4e10 where Morty glimpses Rick's memories and sees Rick Prime in them. The s3 backstory explained that Rick Prime killed our Rick's wife and daughter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
S3E9 The ABC's of Beth: Rick is able to fight off Rick Prime's robots using his cybernetic arms, which he gave himself in The ABC's of Beth after he gets attacked by a creature in Beth's childhood world Rick built for her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In total, that's about 7+ episodes spread through 5 different seasons. It's hard for writers of a television series to be able to coordinate the use of Chekhov's Gun within 1 season, but Rick and Morty's unusual commission situation (they were commissioned by Adult Swim back in 2018 to make 100 episodes) I imagine allows the writers to mentally go, "Okay, here's where we are, here's where we should be by season 10." And it's interesting to see how that affects the writing and design of the show.
The episode Solaricks is able to manage a bunch of moving parts in such a way that it shows the writers have been paying attention to past events in the series. It's the care of continuity (something Rick lies about not caring about) that I appreciate.

Rick Prime Stole His Outfit (Theory)
Rick Prime is a clone of Rick C-137 or Cronenberg Rick (CR). Rick Prime is Rick’s first clone come to life, spawned during C-137 and CR’s alliance with a team of Ricks. Prime kills the Rick who began the alliance (and maybe steals his outfit).
THE SET UP
In Solaricks (s6e1), C-137 scans a hologram of Prime at his garage in dimension C-137. The hologram identifies four distinctive hairstyles, shirts (without pants?) and portal guns. Each hairstyle always matches a corresponding outfit on the hologram’s rotation (I’ve arrowed in red below). The portal guns are randomly occurring, so unlike the hair/shirts, they never match with the same Rick. There are shirts we have never seen before but hairstyles we’re mostly familiar with.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
HOUSEKEEPING
We can assume the hologram was created after C-137 created his makeshift/duct-tape portal gun (it appearing in the hologram), but there is no evidence to suggest what purpose the hologram served; certainly not a tool to recall a memory of the incident as C-137 had a memory printed to track Prime.
THE THEORY ALREADY
We assume, as the hair and shirts are so cleanly paired, that there were four-ish Ricks who teamed together to create the Citadel. One Rick is actually an Older Rick, approximately the same age as current 21st century C-137. Older Rick sports the spiky hair we are so familiar with on C-137. We will assume that Older Rick used time travel to greet his younger self; his younger self being C-137 or CR, and for what matter? Perhaps he ran out of portal fluid (we know C-137 can collect this in his dimension as Morty and Nick travel through space to refill the prototype portal gun in s5e9), or all of the old Ricks from other dimensions were so settled down in home life that Older Rick had to travel back in time to create the Citadel (very Back to the Future of them) or Older Rick has invented time travel and visits his younger self to help him make the prototype portal gun for interdimensional travel to help build the Citadel -- let’s stick with this final assumption.
So time travel is not a big deal in this equation; Older Rick’s gone and created it. He’s the smartest man in the universe, this is a cartoon, he’s had plenty of time to develop it yadayadayada. For this theory to work, we assume that Older Rick is CR (as Rick Prime returns/teleports to Cronenberg Earth in Solaricks), or Older Rick is C-137 (explains how C-137 knows his marriage failed), they develop interdimensional travel, and they visit CR as a test run. CR is recruited and a clone is made out of him. The three/or more of them (considering the additional long-haired Rick in the hologram) begin to work on the citadel.
For whatever reason, the Rick Prime clone is created. We know, however, that clones do age (see Bethic Twinstic s6e3). So, either Rick Prime’s youthful appearance is a mystery, or he’s a regenerating robot, much like the Terminator (again, this is a cartoon; anything’s possible). I also considered Rick Prime being a memory brought to life, his appearance altered/twisted as memories often are to suit a darker self-perception of the self; again, however, memories do age and is noted at the end of s5e8. I don’t see why a memory couldn’t be a robot, however, or how a regenerative clone is impossible to achieve, so I ASSERT Rick Prime is a clone of a person or a memory that occurred voluntarily or involuntarily in the Cronenberg Dimension. Rick Prime is either a clone of CR or C-137.
To back Prime being C-137′s clone.
Rick Prime was created by the team developing the Citadel (C-137, CR, Older Rick and Long-haired Rick) to complete a series of tasks. C-137 decided to step away from the operation, but he had information/a “key” that these Ricks were after (potential reason that Older Rick had to go back in time to locate him). Therefore, Rick Prime was in/voluntarily cloned from C-137’s memory.
Reasons:
-       Rick Prime is created so C-137 can spend more time with Diane and Beth, especially with so much time apart and after finding out Older Rick’s marriage failed. As we know C-137 cares a lot more compared to other Ricks, enough to take action when he feels threatened, making him, according to other Ricks, “irrational, passionate” (quote Riq IV of Rickshank Redemption). This emotional thinking is classified as “immense power” in Dr Wong’s office, but Dr Wong presents it in a positive light, saying he doesn’t need to act aggressively to emotional impulses because the existence of emotion is something inherently productive; therefore, emotion does not equal negative attention to anyone but Rick/s. C-137 creates Rick Prime in an overreactive, emotional state, to avoid negative attention against the rest of the team (going above and beyond when he could have left it behind, just as he decides to leave Pissmaster alone in s6e8). C-137′s own decision to create Rick Prime before leaving and before Prime’s activation opens up blame over the death of his family.
-       C-137 is unable to retrieve his memory for the team to extract a “key”/data. The team extract his memory in the form of a clone, making C-137 redundant in serving his team at all and boot him. We also notice that Prime is styled atypically to C-137, making sense of his memory extraction. With the extraction came distortion of the self; how Birdperson remembered C-137′s interactions is similar yet dissimilar to C-137′s memory (C-137 stating Birdperson had a “pretty cool memory” of him). Even if Birdperson’s memory was accurate, memories actually change each time you recall them. By this, C-137′s lost memory/”key” was attached to a version of himself that he didn’t like, that one that made him cold and distant toward his family, so Prime became an inaccurate depiction of C-137.
To back Prime being CR’s clone.
Rick Prime was created by the team developing the Citadel (C-137, CR, Older Rick and Long-haired Rick) to recruit Ricks to work on/live on the Citadel. Prime is a clone of CR. There’s an unknown reason as to why CR is cloned. Upon searching details of Long-haired Rick, I came across two Ricks with long hair, council member Maximums Rickimus and Teacher Rick. In Teacher Rick’s classroom at the Morty Academy, we find a framed photo of an aged Rick Prime, or more likely, CR.
Tumblr media
So we can assume CR cloned Prime. His colouring is also the same as the Rick to the left, possibly Older Rick (and seeing as CR is aged here, that means Older Rick had aged too, giving a larger bald spot on the top of his head as we see in the photograph).
You could also assume Prime stole Older Rick’s clothes when he busted out the capsule, or that Older Rick was killed (hologram Older Rick wears the Prime outfit; Prime pulls the clone card at the beginning of Solaricks, butt-naked in a capsule to “fuck with a guy”), and C-137 partly resents him for it in the Crybaby Backstory flashback. This would mean the photographed Rick on the left at the Morty Academy is not a part of the equation.
FINAL ADDITION
C-137 calls himself the Rickest Rick to honour someone who *was* the Rickest Rick (Older Rick from Cronenberg or C-137 Dimensions). Evil Morty calls C-137 the Rickest Rick (s5e10), supporting the Prime is C-137′s clone theory; however, we know the “Mortyest Morty” having the “Rickest Rick” to be a term of endearment, meaning C-137 may have been honouring an old pal’s legacy (honouring CR or Older Rick from Cronenberg Dimension).
EXTRA: MY ASS THEORY
Rick doesn’t scan Prime’s pants in his garage hologram in Solaricks. Did Prime remove his pants in the capsule to make sure Rick would finally scan his ass/find him? What did he put in his a s s to make him appear in so many places????

To add on to my last post, I feel like the way Prime showed up to C137's garage is how he started recruiting other Ricks. And because it technically worked the first time if they didn't agree to it he would do the same thing that he did to C137 aka killing their family. And eventually he couldn't get along with Ricks anymore as he said in S6E1, "I really don't team up anymore". So he eventually locked himself outside of the central finite curve.
Tumblr media
That's why when the rift was reopened, C137 is able to find him again. Is this why Evil Morty knew a way to open a rift? Because in C137's memory he remembers opening a rift ? Was it Prime or him that started opening rifts? Or more likely they were doing it together when they got along. There is still so much mystery to the timeline.

So I actually read the comic, and why didn’t anyone tell me Doofus Jerry got an ambiguous death scene? A giant worm falls on top of him, him losing an arm as its mouth covers him, and Rick zaps it away — with what was later established as a teleporting gun, not a disintegrator! So we could potentially see him return one day (be it in a comic or the TV series).
(spoilers for comic issue 23?)
Tumblr media
Ohhh that panel is such a memorable scene for me. 😂😂 (not to mention he looks pretty good here too-)
though I don't think that gun will teleport him anywhere since earlier we saw the gun (that I think doofus jerry made it?) being used on one of the rick guards and he doesn't seem so good. (unless he did teleport away somewhere)
Tumblr media
and the same gun was used later when he got crushed by the worm. so i don't think the gun could teleport him anywhere unless I'm missing something here 🤔🤔
also, I think it'd be hard to bring him back in the comic since these issues came out quite a long time now (~6 years now), and the main rick and morty comic series have already ended... I haven't seen them make a spinoff with characters from the comic before.
don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE to see him make a comeback of course! 😭😭😭 it'd be so interesting to see him on the show or something like that 🥺🥺 I feel like there are so many things to play with. I mean he gets his body crushed and all but it's NOT like we really see the body..... 🫣🫣 and the worm... or clone him back with those body parts..... (orz)
Though I could see him making it into the show one day, but with some rewriting and a new introduction. since:
the Citadel of Ricks is gone
we are not sure if Doofus and Jerry are still friends cuz in S6E1 they confirmed that Jerry was swapped during S2E2. So the jerry that met doofus rick was actually S1E7~S2E2 jerry (Season 2 jerry) (but they could also have them befriend off-screen)
I used to be against the idea of bringing him back cuz I don't really trust the writers? 😭 But curiosity got the best of me. And since he's getting recognization because of S6, I'd say not all hope is lost! :D

if you had to pick your top 3 r&m characters who would you pick? i always really like hearing your thoughts on r&m and also your art is very inspiring and i look forward to your posts every day :) keep up the great work you’re very cool
this is so cute anon thank you....
to be honest tho top 2 are definitely rick and morty. mostly because of their shared dynamic, because it genuinely is very tightly written and works super well in canon (toxicity included). like they are a veerryyy unhealthy duo and the text acknowledges that and even brings it to the forefront, and its sooo entertaining and intriguing. like i want to see these characters pushed to their limits, i want to see them doing junk and i want to see how their dynamic handles that junk. i think season 5 kind of abandoned that og duo a bit, and im really hoping season6 picks them up again and focuses on them more. i also really like how, overall, their character developments seem to go in like... opposite directions? like, morty becomes more cruel and apathetic, and rick becomes more soft and empathetic. and like, obviously the show isn't going to end with morty being the cruel heartless and self-centered asshole, and rick the blabbering anxious wimp, but it's still cool to see how they sorta pick up each others traits. for third thoughhh.... it's sort of a tie between jessica and rick prime. i think jessica is just a fun character who got some cool development (im still waiting for the writers to continue with that plot thread btw), but most of my adoration for her comes from how fun she is to draw haha. as for rick prime thouuugghhh....... he just seems so silly. i really have a soft spot for villains who don't care and who also seem to be having so much fun with the havoc they're causing. i feel like s6e1 set him up basically perfectly, and i really can't wait to see more of him. also, his design is super cool. love the weird mullet and sci-fi jacket. ALSO ALSO, since this is a villain the writers have intentionally set up, i feel like his characterization and motivations will have been set up much more solidly. (not to say that e!morty's weren't, but i've mentioned before how i'm pretty sure the writers never intended for him to exist outside of his debut)
