I already liked Forrest since the beginning, but I love him even more after what he told Alex after their almost-kiss. Alex is not ready to be out and be seen on a date with a guy, and instead of forcing him or guilt-tripping him, Forrest just accepts it. he also makes it clear however that he has no intention of "climbing into somebody else's closet", which is fair, and also rare. I'm more used to the out person trying to guilt the closeted person into coming out, as seen on last week's Kevin Can Fuck Himself. seeing Forrest so maturely accepting and respecting Alex's boundaries while also making his clear is just nice to see. and it should be more common.

So, I really loved the Forlex scenes in this episode (is anyone surprised?) and I’m just so ready for what’s next. I agree that they should’ve kissed (I mean if you’re going to pay homage to 10 Things I Hate About You, pay homage) but I’m not upset with how their scenes went or ended. We got so much:

Alex reaching out to Forrest to ask him on a date (a date!)

Flirty!Alex (“I’m just a guy standing in front of a tourist trap, asking a history buff to shoot him with high-velocity paint.” - I mean)

Tidbit about Alex playing paintball with his family

Finding out Forrest served in the military (and being nervous to tell Alex!) - I actually think this is so important. Forrest presumably served during DADT and Alex is going to see someone out and proud in life after the military and it’s so good

I’m just so excited for what’s to come. I know we have some hints about open mic night and a big finale scene but I really did love this episode for them. Alex is going to work on himself and he’s going to call Forrest and I think the payoff for that will be worth it.
