I mean I don't think anyone actually still believed Ryan/Robert was going to show up and order an americano in the cafe in the next few weeks.

But they still built a set for the second flat and all of these Robert mentions have to Mean Something - and Danny saying Robert is the first person Aaron truly loved (plus emmerdale saying Robert is The One for Aaron) and constantly saying he's trying to convince Ryan to come back (try harder Miller) and he misses robron and working with Ryan...

I guess I wanted to punish myself last night so I made myself fully catch-up on the last two weeks of Emmerdale. I know we all say how bad it is, but bad is being too kind. This is a truly terrible show.

I know Maxine is gone and I'm sure they've lost a few other writers here and there (SM doesn't count she never should have been a writer) but for the most part the writing staff seems intact. These are the same people who were writing for Robron (of course Ryan and Danny added to the material but). The same people who wrote some incredible episodes. What happened to these writers? What happened to these directors? There is no way they believe they are delivering a quality product. Part of me thinks they know it's shit so they stopped caring as well.

Do you remember when Danny exited the show and everyone, including him, said it was time? That he was phoning it in and it showed? This is an entire production of phoning it in. The writing. The storylines. The acting. All of it is being phoned in. Everyone involved seems and looks bored. I know there are people upset about how mean and nasty this version of Aaron is, but Danny at least seems to be having a good time. He at least looks like he's trying. Also I hate the characters he's being nasty towards. I don't care that he's hurting their feelings. That's a problem. I should care at least a little. But they have decimated some of these characters to the point of no return, at least for me. I will never care that Chas and Paddy are upset about something.

They have to hire a new producer. The producers have no interest in actually telling a story. They have zero interest in the foundation. They are interested in hitting certain points of a story. They are completely disinterested in building a story. They leave out the entire buildup, which is the interesting part of the story! They don't give anyone time to invest or even understand what is going on. How did that character get from A to B?

The couples make no sense to me. They feel like they just sat in a room and threw paper on the floor and the names that ended up near each other were paired off. Caleb and Tracy came out of nowhere. I don't know why they're having an affair but at least they have chemistry. I keep being told Matty and Amy are a couple. They aren't written like a couple, at least not in the two seconds of screen time they get. Relationships are the important part and the producers have zero interest in growing and letting us actually see the relationships develop. Remember the build up to Robert and Aaron's first kiss? It was so so good! And that was largely due to the fact we actually got the buildup!

I don't know, this got very long and I'm sorry but it makes me sad. I desperately want Ryan/Robert back but I don't want these people touching that character or Robron. It's depressing 😔

As some seem to see chemistry and cute couple potential very easily, I thought about how much I require to get even a little invested in a soap ship. Realistically, on a soap, it's possible for a couple's story to span over many years, but a lot has to click. For this reason, I don't fall easily. Below are a couple of things to remind myself why Robron worked so well, and why I'll probably never find a couple like them again.

•Both Aaron and Robert were 'A' characters, a Dingle and a Sugden with long histories on the show, therefor as much equals as two characters can be really (whereas putting Aaron with a C or even B character now will make it a very uneven pairing, as Danny is lead actor material)

•Both characters were strong/interesting enough to have stories apart from each other

•Both flawed and morally grey in some ways, as well as being likeable and rootable in others, and a lot of that is down to the actors

•Finding the right actor (for Robert) with the right chemistry to fit with Danny's Aaron was obviously something they took seriously in 2014, because simply throwing characters together without proper chemistry testing will never work the same

•As for chemistry, I need to see the sparks when they fight, when they are apart, when they talk about eachother, when they lock eyes across a room, when they are supposed to be with other people and when they down right hate eachother, not just when they flirt or kiss - Danny and Ryan had all those down

•The amount of time we got to have them for, the different eras of the relationship, was everything; affair, enemies, friends, boyfriends, exes and husbands (dads), we were so lucky
