Robert La Tourneaux (1940 – 1986) played Cowboy in the original play and film of “The Boys in the Band”
In the early 1980s, La Tourneaux contracted AIDS, and received news coverage when he sought legal channels to prevent being evicted from his apartment when his landlord objected to the presence of a live-in caregiver. La Tourneaux won the court case, but died in Metropolitan Hospital on June 3, 1986. Boys co-star Cliff Gorman and his wife cared for him during his illness until his death. He was buried at Rosedale and Rosehill Cemetery in Linden, New Jersey.

Grandrapits
Tumblr media
Hello everyone,
This is the last of my build a hood master posts. The city that started it all: Grandrapits!
You’ve seen me share these lots one by one for the past 2 years and I finally decided on the district names so I can share the map with you! I built this neighbourhood to play with the sims I created. I guess it’s also called build a hood challenge, or something similar. I’m not up to the lingo but I wasn’t really building or playing it as a challenge. This all started when I found myself bored with the premade hoods and when I found the pooklet method of creating new sims.
Anyway, enough history lesson. I’m sharing this hood and the district names with where every lot is placed in case if you also want to create your own hoods but don’t want to create buildings for them. I used the similarly named, because I’m so creative with naming, Grandrapits map from Modthesims made by Suhina-Lempi.
Tumblr media
More info is under the cut!
Tumblr media
Here are the names of the districts. Each district has a distinct architectural style. New Beginnings and Downtown uses the “industrial loft turned residential space”, Silverpine is “suburbia with somewhat modern houses” and New Haven is going to be ”tropical”.
I, of course, have plans for more lots. I’m only on second generation so there are no distinctly rich households yet. I’m planning on creating rich household district in Goldenhills, beach tropical ones in Butterfly Cove and small, cheap apartments in Downtown. (I’m also thinking of making a one big apartment lot with apartments for 3 people each -like starting the founders with roommates- and 4 or 5 apartments in total for a mega starter apartment on that empty square in New Beginnings but we’ll see.)
New Beginnings is where my sims have started their journey, all of the founders have now moved to Silverpine and the first kids are almost off to university. Which made me get side tracked and start building a university hood for them called Evergreen Institute of Technology. Some of you may have come across its master post. At the time I’m typing this post my game is giving me a lot of grief like missing nightlife clothes and random crashing which kind of made me lose my enthusiasm for building more. I had to completely reinstall the game and decided to rebuild my downloads folder which is taking a lot of time. But I digress, let’s take a closer look at the lots and districts:
Tumblr media
This is the part of the town I spent the most time in. Here we see New Beginnings and Downtown districts. Here is the list of the lots and their respective links:
Grandrapits Apartments
Grandrapits Town Houses
Grandrapits Twin Condos
Grandrapits Social Housing
The Warehouse
Grandrapits Central Park
Grandrapits Mall
The Static
Founder’s Restaurant
Tumblr media
This is New Haven. I have plans for a bar and a restaurant across the beach but still haven’t gotten around to building them. Here is the one lot there so far:
Haven Beach
Tumblr media
This is Rosehills. At the moment it has pet and human cemeteries. If I have ideas for theme appropriate lots I may build more. Links:
Grandrapits Cemetery
Grandrapits Pet Cemetery
Tumblr media
And so far the last district I’ve been working on Silverpine. The suburbia of the founders. Here is the link to their lots:
  5 Founder’s Avenue
10  Founder’s Avenue
15  Founder’s Avenue
20  Founder’s Avenue
25  Founder’s Avenue
30  Founder’s Avenue
Maybe in the future when I feel like the hood is complete enough I’ll release a neighbourhood I just don’t know how to go about doing that with all the cc in these buildings. Until then though, if you want to recreate or just use a lot you need you can refer to this and 3 other neighbourhoods linked in my tumblr.

Good luck with the running and the 5k. 😊 Look out for pigeons and dehydration! (Seriously, running with ADHD meds means taking hydration seriously.) Have fun! 🏃‍♂️👟🏃‍♀️🏃🏃‍♂️😊🥇🐦
It is fortunately a GREAT run to start with again, because it's at night! The Crypt Run traditionally takes place after dark, as close to Halloween as possible, and follows a 5K route through Chicago's historic Rosehill Cemetery. Which also means it's a very confined area -- you're basically switchbacking through a park. If you start to get tired or sick it's super easy to leave the course and get help.
Though I have learned from past Crypt Runs to bring a headlamp -- the course is lit by electric tealights, but it's still quite dark and not super tidy, since it's a footpath in a cemetery in autumn.

In the show, Baer explores innovative and magnificent places across Chicago's neighborhoods, and meets the creators and enthusiasts who tell the stories of how these places came to be, why they are meaningful to the people who live and work nearby, and why their histories are important.

I grew up on Winnemac near Broadway, and during my formative boyhood garter snake catching days knew sneaky ways into the maintenance yard of St Boniface Catholic Cemetery and the former backlot of Essanay Studios at it's northeast corner. I recently listened to an odd podcast that "reviewed" St Boniface Cemetery and it got me thinking about my own semi-recreational use of area cemeteries. I have spent some quality time hiking and exploring Rosehill and Graceland - both as a way to get in touch with Chicago history, and to enjoy the natural splendor of these often avoided places. LakeView Historical Chronicles website has a great collection of info on northside cemeteries. I can highly recommend LakeView Historical Chronicles site - they have a ton of collected photos, newspaper clipping and other information about the Lake View area, the linked cemeteries page being one of many.

I know my soul hath power to know all things, Yet she is blind and ignorant in all: I know I'm one of Nature's little kings, Yet to the least and vilest things am thrall.
I know my life's a pain and but a span; I know my sense is mock'd in ev'rything; And, to conclude, I know myself a Man, Which is a proud and yet a wretched thing.

Chicago's transit is pretty good for the US (usually 15 min lead times for the subway, occasionally better, and a sensible bus system) but God it could get so much better, so much easier than most cities.
Stick a bus with 95% 7 min lead times during rush hour and weekends, 12 min otherwise operating 24 hours on Ashland from Rosehill cemetery to the Pink Line and either extend Kimball to Jefferson Park, or somehow shuttle between the Blue Line and Kimball, and now you've seriously increased the value of housing stock in safe areas in between the two outgrowths of the recent gentrifications!

(more…)

Halloween Saturday and I'm listening to some Chicago ghost stories and the Halloween party down the hill (thanks for the invite neighbor) while is imbibe in some Dead Guy Whiskey paired with a Tatuaje Surrogates Bone Crusher cigar. This sweet malt whiskey made from the same malts as Rogue Dead Guy Ale is very easy drinking while the cigar hits you like a bone club with notes of fresh earth, old leather, and autumn bonfires. .... You can't have grown up in the Chicago area and not known of its most famous hitchhiking ghost, Resurrection Mary. Stories of Mary have been around since the 1930s. A young woman in a white dress hitchhiking along Archer Ave is seen looking for a ride between Resurrection Cemetery and the Willowbrook (Oh Henry) Ballroom. When she is picked up either near the Ballroom or along the road she says she's heading home only to disappear as the car passes Resurrection Cemetery. One man claimed to have danced with her at the Oh Henry Ballroom and then took her home only to have her disappear from his car. He went to the address she had given him the next morning onlynto find out she had been dead for years. There are tales of ghostly hitchhikers around the world and Mary is one of many but she will always be my favorite. Chicago and tales of Mary, The Excalibur, the Water Tower, Rosehill, Graceland, and Bachelors Grove Cemeteries are where my love of the supernatural started. .... “When hinges creak in doorless chambers, and strange and frightening sounds echo through the halls … Whenever candlelights flicker where the air is deathly still, that is the time when ghosts are present, practicing their terror with ghoulish delight." - Ghost Host, Disney's Haunted Mansion .... #ghoststories #halloweentime #spookyseason #halloween #cigar #CigarLover #CigarAfficionado #cigarphoto #cigarsnob #cigarlife #cigarsmoke #tatuajecigars #cigarsandwhiskey #sailorandsticks #TapThatAsh #whiskey #roguedistillery #whiskeylife #WhiskeyLover #whiskeyphoto #WhiskeyNeat #WhiskeyAfficionado #whiskeygram #whiskeyandhistory #quote #quotestagram #hauntedmansion #hitchhikingghosts (at Coastal San Pedro) https://www.instagram.com/p/CkUgxuMrPZu/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
