Wow, so this is an Academy? You get an education in limbo??

AOD! Ozpin: yes; you’re educated on the afterlife and the current living world, along with your Phantom form and other things about death.

There are many trials and tribulations and events in the academy.

Such as tonight! We’ll be holding a simple dinner event to get the students accompanied with the school.

AOD! Ozpin: oh no worries, I suppose I am old.

I originally died in 1920’s, eight years before the Great War ended. I arrived here in limbo, became the apprentice to King Ozymandias, and afterwards took over the academy.

So yes I have been here a while, I haven’t been able to find an apprentice that I think would make a good fit here unfortunately.

It’s an adjective that many students in the recent decades have been calling me. Not so much a common term during my time however.

So your stuck in limbo, do you know how to get out?

AOD! Oscar: um. I don’t know if you know how limbo works, but you don’t just leave. That’s not a thing. I’ve existed here for an hour and I know that.

If I’m already dead then I can’t just hop back into my body and suddenly “poof! I’m fine!”. And even if I wasn’t dead back in the living world I’d still have to deal with the physical pain of whatever happened to me.

If my back hurts now then I’d hate to think what it would feel like if I was alive….

Do you know where you are?

AOD! Oscar: from what the headmaster said we are in limbo. Between life and death.

Apparently some of us are either in the hospital hanging on by a thread or we’re already dead.

From what I feel on my back, the pain that is, I assume I died. I think Qrow hit his head or something, he said his head hurt really bad. Although I’m not sure how bad because he kept walking despite it

Hey, Oscar.... how you doing, buddy?

AOD! Oscar: heh… nearly was just eaten. But other than that I’m doing surprisingly well for someone whose supposed to… be… dead.

At least the man I’m with seems pretty nice, in a grumpy, old guy kinda way but still nice!

I guess too much stuff is happening at once, nearly being eaten, someone helping me, and now being put into a death academy. Hopefully things calm down by the time we go to the dorms.

Although I heard that adults and kids are separated from each other, I guess I get it. Just wish I could stay around the guy I was with more. Sorta a paternal figure right now….

What qualifies the difference between a traumatic death and a non-traumatic one? And what happens to those who died in a non-traumatic way?

AOD! Ozpin: traumatic deaths are typically ones that happen and give the soul immense emotional distress.

Such as, say, a car accident.

Non traumatic deaths are ones that typically are expected and/or are not emotionally distressing to the soul.

Such as death by a terminal illness or by age. These deaths are typically peaceful.

Here’s an even more interesting fact: non traumatic deaths can turn into traumatic deaths if the soul realizes something after death.

Souls are able to remember things when they are still temporarily in the balance between the living and dead, not limbo, but more like the realm just before limbo, where they can still see everything in the living world but nobody can see them.

We remove these memories temporarily with the other memories in order to give them a less distressing beginning in Limbo. Once they become more accompanied with the realm they will slowly regain their memories.

I believe Clover Ebi is a perfect example of such an incident, finding out his husband Poisoned him as an act of mercy was enough to land him in limbo.

As for the non traumatized souls, they immediately go into the afterlife, there will be decided if they reincarnate. Although the afterlife’s process of reincarnation is different from the academy’s

And souls who go through the academy can’t be granted reincarnation by the afterlife.

Woah, that is crazy! You must be very proud of this academy. So, how come you are still here? Can those stuck in Limbo decide to just stay? -🐈‍⬛

AOD! Ozpin: yes, some can choose to stay in limbo and become a member of the academy. Most who do this do this in order to avoid their punishment in the afterlife, which while clever, only leaves them with another issue.

They don’t actually want to teach the new students anything. And thus we run into another issue with the academy, the teachers being less than pleasant to their students because they’re bitter.

I do however have the authority to send them out of the academy if I see fit. But I’d rather not leave them to what awaits outside…

I suppose I’m a bit of a pushover…

I believe this may come to be a bit of an issue with one of the new students of mine.

Qrow Branwen, reading about his past life I do not foresee the teachers liking him much. But… I am curious about him. He doesn’t take me as the kind of man to put up with that treatment.

So what is this place meant to accomplish? I hear the students are dead folk. So how come they are here? Does an afterlife not exist? -🐈‍⬛

AOD! Ozpin: oh no no dear! The afterlife exists! The academy simply serves the purpose of giving those with a particularly traumatic death, well, a second chance.

Only those who are able to make it to the end and get a second chance at life will be able to remember their life in the past and what the academy is like. They are bound by rules of being unable to speak about it however.

The school serves as an education into what the afterlife is like if you don’t manage to make it to the living world once again. It prepares them for what eternal gifts, or punishment, awaits them in the afterlife.

However it’s also a test to see who will be chosen to get a second chance, if they fail, they move on to the afterlife.

This is limbo after all, the middle grounds between life and death.

The academy is meant to accomplish the possibility of giving traumatized souls a second chance, or to prepare them for what awaits in the afterlife.

AOD! Ozpin: It is not wise to wander these halls by yourself, in fact it’s quite easy to get lost. Allow me to give you a tour if you’d like.

You are one of the new apparitions yes? If you’re not sure then look at the other shadowy figures around these halls

[ you take a look, while you do look similar to them, similar enough to know you are an apparition, you don’t feel connected to these… things. ]

[ they look incredibly uncanny and disturbing. Almost lifeless. ]
