Gyro Zeppeli and the True Man’s World
Tumblr media
Chapter 35: True Man’s World (Part 3)
Gyro’s consistent struggle is finding a path for himself outside of his family’s shadow. His father is a constant specter in his life, even an ocean away. The Zeppeli family teachings are undeniably miraculous, yet Gregorio encourages using the spin only when it will be for an undeniably good cause. He doesn’t like uncertainty (that moment when ‘the ball hits the net’) because he feels the Spin is not something for the Zeppeli family (I.e. the spin is not to be used selfishly), but should always be used in service of something greater (e.g. the king, bringing dignity to executions).
Even when first introduced, Gyro is full of contradictions. He’s traditional, yet a trail-blazer. He’s an asshole with a heart of gold. His character arc, really, is about him learning how to be selfish. How to, as Johnny puts it, “hunger”. He needs to want things for himself, to not just be, as Ringo calls him, “a conformist”. That’s why True Man’s World is Gyro’s arc. It’s him really truly embracing the spirit of the cowboy, of individuality, of using what he has ‘inherited’ to find his own path. It’s reconciling these different parts of himself that defines the rest of his character arc.
This journey is also mirrored in Johnny. Johnny states, “That’s what I want to learn from you.” (Chapter 32: Third Stage Goal). Johnny is someone who has ‘inherited’, but he’s also someone who’s lost everything, and hence, knows how to ‘hunger’. Johnny’s position in the third stage is both figuratively and literally caught between Diego (pure hunger) and Gyro (inheritance). Gyro’s growth informs Johnny’s. Gyro’s journey is about growing past what one has inherited to become his own person, just as Johnny states the Steel Ball Run is his own journey to adulthood.
The third stage is mostly an introduction for what we can expect from the rest of Gyro’s arc. Gyro’s arc continues well into the end of the part, as he and Johnny inform one another’s development. I would argue Sugar Mountain is the key turning point in their relationship. Once Gyro realizes how much Johnny is willing to give up for him, he too realizes what he is willing to give up for Johnny.
Johnny bluntly told Gyro in the third stage that the only thing he was lacking was having his own hunger to win. True Man’s World is Gyro shedding his father’s traditionalist views due to the ‘sentimentality’ (care / love) he has for Johnny. The decision to go back for Johnny is the first time Gyro has been able to freely express his own feelings as an individual and sets him on the path to continue exploring that side of himself further into the part.
In Catch the Rainbow, we see him starting to find that ‘golden path’ (a path of his very own) and using what he’s learned he’s able to overtake both Diego and Johnny, because he has found that individualistic ‘hunger’ for victory. Yet his perfect victory is interrupted. But Gyro loses for a reason. In order to gain that ‘perfect victory’ (the golden path), he had to cast aside everything. “Even Johnny disappears.” (Catch the Rainbow (Part 2)). Gyro failed to reconcile the two paths (hunger and inheritance), choosing one over the other, and that is why he didn’t get a perfect victory. But, as previously stated, that’s not what he (or Johnny) needs to learn.
Sugar Mountain is Johnny recognizing that he’s actually not willing to sacrifice everything to satiate his ‘hunger’. Seeing this, something in Gyro also changes. He thinks about ‘the ball that hit the net’; the moment where only ‘luck’ (or, similarly, fate) can decide how things turn out. Gregorio says something along the lines of, ‘Where the ball lands, only god can decide.’ But that’s not entirely true. Johnny had a choice to make: the corpse parts (the thing he wanted most in the world), or Gyro. For Gyro, that was the moment the ball hit the net, and it was a very human decision - one born of ‘sentimentality’ - that led to his life being saved.
This idea is followed up in Wrecking Ball. Here, finally, Gyro is able to reconcile the two sides of himself. He’s quite literally faced with his mirror image in Wekapipo - a man who also knows the spin, but who has lost connection to his homeland and his roots. Gyro remembers another moment the ball hit the net - when he botched a surgery on Wekapipo’s sister. It was a moment of bad luck to Gyro, but one that saved another’s life. Gyro defeats Wekapipo through the reconciliation of his hunger and his inheritance. He’s fully committed to the corpse hunt with Johnny (even willing to give up the race and his original goal, as seen shortly after in Philadelphia (Chapter 72; Ticket to Ride)), yet it is only because of what he learned from his family - the Zeppeli faith in miracles - that he is able to move past Wekapipo as an obstacle to continue the hunt. This reconciliation finally brings to a close the conflict from the third stage, and at last gives Gyro the insight needed to be at peace with himself and his decisions, wherever they may lead.
This, I think, is what gives greater meaning to his final words. There’s Lesson 5, of course, but there’s also his parting words: “If that’s how it is, I’m fine with it.” (Chapter 89: Break My Heart, Break Your Heart (Part 2)) Gyro maintained his morals until the end, refusing to send his ‘bad luck’ somewhere else. He refused to artificially manipulate luck / fate (through Love Train) to decide the outcome of his injury. He, very humanly, accepted his death. Lady Luck had not been at his side. It was because of his relationship with Johnny (the source of his ‘sentimentality’) and all that he learned throughout the race, about himself, and what he really values, that he was at peace with himself in the end. Gyro finally found the path that felt right to him, concluding the arc started in True Man’s World.
Gyro was both an inheritor (the Spin) and an individual who learned to hunger through the pursuit of goals that would improve him as a person - partially because he knew the corpse hunt could help him grow, but also seen in his refusing to back out at the end due to his affection for Johnny. In Lesson 5, his parting words to Johnny, Gyro thanks him for teaching him how to hunger and grow into himself, just as Johnny thanks him for teaching him how to inherit and once again see value and beauty in the world around him.
Sometimes I see takes that say Johnny and Gyro switched protagonist roles halfway through (the arc I would point to being A Silent Way). I would argue that’s not an accurate description. They informed each other’s development throughout the part and even well into the climax. It’s because of Gyro that Johnny too learned how to reconcile inheritance and hunger, allowing him to fight against alt!Diego on his own (the very embodiment of the corruption of ‘hunger’). They taught each other how to ‘hunger nobly’ and find the best of both worlds. They really do have a beautiful relationship and I’m disappointed when I see it mischaracterized.
Ultimately, Gregorio was half-wrong. Sentimentality was the downfall of Gyro Zeppeli, but it was also the cause of his greatest triumph, allowing him to find peace with himself in the end. The art of the spin was passed to Johnny, and everything Gyro embodied lives on through him.
Thank you for reading, I would love to hear your thoughts as well :)

I finished reading SBR AND I HAVE THOUGHTS
Going to focus on my favorite moment, how it ended up being the overall theme for part 7, and how it came back for the ending. Long read, spoilers ahead.
The initial moment I'm talking about is in Vol 12. This was the moment that REALLY got me invested in Johnny and Gyro's story and it was also the turning point in their relationship. Up until this point you could view their alliance as something mostly rooted in convenience. They both had goals that were adjacent to each other, but they also had an understanding that if their goals were no longer aligned then they'd go their separate ways without a second thought. It was transactional. Don't get in my way and I'll lend you a hand as long as it doesn't slow me down. They had common enemies but really couldn't be described as friends per se. At least not until this moment.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Johnny, whose entire disability was brought about by his own hubris and a moment of selfishness, the boy who has only recently begun to understand his stand abilities and feel hope over his condition improving, is given a choice. Does he sacrifice Gyro to keep the corpse parts which he fought so hard to collect in the first place? Or does he let the corpse parts go to save the life of someone who he's not even that close to? Does he choose himself or someone else?
And this is a huge turning point for Johnny's character as a whole. This leads to him making an incredibly selfless decision, one which goes against his instincts and which even Gyro seems surprised by.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is it. This is the moment when Gyro realizes that Johnny is more than just a traveling companion. He knows exactly how much those corpse parts meant to Johnny. He can see the despair that he's fallen into and yet it's clear that Johnny doesn't regret his decision or hold any resentment towards him, and it's in that moment that Gyro realizes he would have done the exact same thing for him.
Imagine my surprise when Johnny has to make a similar decision at the end of SBR, but in the opposite direction.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Valentine, in a desperate attempt to save his own hide, offers the one thing that Johnny can't refuse. The chance for him to see Gyro again and let him live. He bends over backwards and swears up and down that he has good intentions and that no harm will befall either of them and Johnny wants to believe it more than anything. He is once again given a choice. Does he make the selfish choice to give Valentine the corpse in exchange for his friend or does he make the selfless choice and let him go?
It's a fascinating exchange because as Johnny is questioning Valentine and asking him to prove his good intentions, it feels more like he's trying to convince himself that Valentine is trustworthy than the other way around.
Tumblr media
He's trying to convince himself that saving Gyro is the better option even though, as painful as it is, he knows deep down that it isn't. He knows that the Gyro who would be brought to his universe wouldn't be the same. It wouldn't be his Gyro. He knows that Valentine is a smooth talker who can't be trusted. He knows that no matter what justification Valentine gives for his actions, that they were always motivated by a desire for power and personal gain.
And so he makes what is, most likely, the most difficult decision of his life. He tests Valentine one more time.
Tumblr media
Valentine, being the bastard that he is, can't resist the opportunity to kill Johnny. And with that, Gyro is lost forever. It's just a really powerful moment and ties back to vol. 12 beautifully.
Tumblr media
This is the overall theme of SBR. The idea of self sacrifice and letting things go for the greater good.
I'm just so proud of these characters and how they grew over time both in their relationship and as people overall. It was an honor to go on this journey with you boys.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cheers, and to the next part and the goal.

Right friends it’s musical analysis time:
Spirit box radio has yet again decided to have its (musical) theme echo the (literary) themes of the piece and I’m vibrating why is this music so good. It’s doing exaaactly what a theme should and connecting the dots so nicely and and It’s so fucking good. Ok so
We have, in yhe most recent episode (sbr 3.12, solitude) the idea of the arcane space collapsing (shocking I know but bear with me) and Samael says something to the tune of “I’m telling thousands of stories, so of course it’s hard to keep track of the edges (of them)”. And of course
This gets reflected in the music. Our outro theme (havent given the intro a proper listen yet) consists of two parts: a) reverbed to hell and back strings/synth and b) the punch to the gut muted xylophone? Bells? (We’ll get into this but I’m no musicologist) that ends the piece
So for the first part, we have a simple variation on the main sbr theme that has been well established since season 1. This is fine and not super interesting, bc most of it sits underneath the credits, but it helps to bridge the gap between the ideas of a radio staticky spirit box and the main theme. It’s quiet, a little haunting, and normal (for the most part). It’s not something you’re going to catch, and it’s not something you really need to catch. The important bit tho is the faux-normality of the theme, which causes us to think that (barring the plot of. The episode) things are more or less fine (which is bs but again not the point at this moment). It’s very much samaels perspective on how things should be going - reminiscent of the world that was, holding on to the echos of the past, but not interesting or particularly good in its own right. This sets up the interesting part tho bc:
Part b) the fuck you it’s time to flip that on it’s head now. So,, we get the main theme again, loud and clear, with no credits to distract us. Played on a xylophone (I think? Idk I was a strings player it sounds like it’s a padded mallet hitting something made of metal, which is then immediately dampened). The theme played here is a perfectly straight (again, surprising given the characters ;] tehe) 4/4 quarter note 2 bar phrase. That takes the rhythms we’re used to and says. Nah fuck that. It’s so jarring. Eight eighth notes that so beautifully capture and bastardize the theme we’re used to that make it feel so flat and uninteresting (which still being musically beautiful but it’s not time to talk about phrasing rn). This so perfectly encapsulates what’s happening in the plot. These eight notes are the story (the one we the listeners know all too well) being retold by samael in this arcane space: flat, hitting every beat exactly, what is supposed to happen, containing the things that should be joyous, and absolutely failing to do anything correctly. It’s like you told someone to rewrite Haydns C major to be played by a elementary school band. It’s “correct” but so far down the uncanny valley that it’s just. Wrong. And no phrasing or dynamics or instrumentation or anything could fix that.
Now it’s time to discuss the choice of instrument. I wrote above that the melody feels flat - and that’s (to me) mostly due to the choice to immediately dampen each note, separating it from the other notes around it. This kills most phrasing you could do with the measure (again, not all, bc it doesn’t sound like bong bong bong bong bong bong bong bong but that’s neither here nor there) and forces the listener to hear the notes as 8 distinct entities. It’s great it spectacular it makes the piece work so well and really adds to the analysis above but idk how to explain it

Am I the only one who doesn't like character comparisons with the OG universe and the SBR verse?
Like, yeah, counterparts exist, but not every character has to be one. And I'm saying this because I've seen people saying Usagi is Doppio. But this is an old phenomena, I remember people used to think Mamezuku was Rohan.
I don't like these because it kind of "diminishes" the character, and ignores their own value. Like, this character is an asshole? He's CLEARLY Rohan.
It feels like these people are treating the OG verse as "more important". It's frankly, very annoying, adds nothing to character discussion and analysis, and spreads weird misinfo about the character, to the point the fandom portrays them completely differently to how they act in the manga.

I love sbr but man a certain section of it's fandom (dudebros) has definately manage to alienate other part fans from it. Not to mention how their "analysis" is straight up wrong.I am so tired of their albeistic "jokes" on Johnny and villify him all the while fanboying over FW and keep saying how "he was right".
YUP!! Like I said, there are parts of SBR that I really liked, and Johnny and Gyro are some of my fave characters in all of jojo!! It's mostly all of FV's shit that I hate, I can't believe all he had to do was talk about a napkin and now half the fandom think he's the best character in the entire series

Why do u like Diego so much. Like, what's the personal obsessive zeal for the feral rock-eating dinosaur man over any other fabulously bizzare jjba character
it's quite simple, really: he's hot
no, that's a joke, i genuinely have a lot of really Strong feelings about diego brando as a character, he rides that thin line between villain and "hey maybe this guy isn't so bad" (which is something i'm always a sucker for), his motivations are interesting, also i think his character design is SICK. i really will just sit here, ramble, and make zero sense, so i'm going to attempt to break him down in chunks AHEM (general warning for sbr spoilers!!!!)
so diego at face value is this pompous jerk who wants money and staus, and he's willing to do anything he has to in order to get what he wants. in his mind he's number one, he values himself over literally everybody else. all of this is great, i love characters that are unapologetic assholes, but what really gets me is what we can see if we dig a little deeper!!! he's constantly on the hunt for more, more, more; there's this ache inside him that he can't quite relieve. he wants revenge for the way his mother and him were treated when he was young, and he will stop at nothing to get that. (i have to wonder if he understands that there's probably nothing he can actually do to fix that deep-seated anger. i'm not sure that even killing his father would be enough, but that's purely me trying to burrow myself into diego's psyche LOL) he's just so HUNGRY and ugghhh i Love that, i love his determination and the way he will throw himself into really dangerous situations if it means he has the potential to benefit himself and move even a fraction closer to his goals. so that instantly earns him major points in my book.
the moment that i personally said "yep, he's The One" was of course the rattlesnake joke... i think i literally swooned irl.. not only is he very nice to look at, he's also FUNNY???? sold. instantly. i think at his core diego is a goofy lil guy (also childish and desperate for validation, but we'll touch on that later) who could potentially be such a good ally for so many characters if he'd simply get his head out of his ass and trust other people a reasonable amount. but he won't because he's diego and he's horribly misanthropic. (this kind of explains part of my fascination with dinopants: we finally see him alongside someone, strategizing, exhibiting some trust (even if just a little), and he actually treats hot pants with respect, like an equal!!! tune in next time for a dinopants analysis /hj) It's just so funny to watch him in the scary monsters arc, he feels very.. candid, i guess? in his interactions with johnny, the refined aura isn't really there and he looks a mess LMAO, i instantly took even more of a liking to him during this part!!! he just felt more human to me (which is ironic bc.. he very much wasn't for the majority of the arc fhdkjlghs) It's just like.. OH.. this seemingly perfect man is now acting absolutely feral and being so weird ?? i'm in love with the duality of him!!!! (and oddly enough, vaguely lizard-like person is a very specific trope that i Adore, my username isn't tendou-satori for nothin')
so far we've got: mean little motherfucker with a massive chip on his shoulder, at his most palatable he's silly and funny and appears to actually have some humanity even though it's stuffed beneath thick layers of self-importance and resentment. also: hot dinosaur eat rock. but i like to think my specialty is psychoanalyzing characters (to the point where it may or may not feel canon) so let's dig deeper :))))
there's this profound sadness in his character, i think? touched on it earlier, but his motivations are built on a desire for revenge, and i'm not sure if that hunger for revenge could ever be satisfied. it's a childish motive (imo) and i think it really showcases just how much growing up he needs to do. i think it's easy to forget he's just 20, because he acts so high and mighty and it seems he has a lot of enablers; he's probably had his ego blown to ridiculous amounts for almost the entirety of his life. i'm sure he had to work hard for his place in the world of horse racing but his celebrity status absolutely gets to his head, he eats it up. but with all that being said, without the influence of either of his parents he had to rely on himself, and with that i'm sure he had to grow up very fast. but there's still childish tendencies there, things he never unlearned, like his need for being the center of attention, being generally mean to people, putting himself first no matter what & to the point where it endangers others, etc etc etc. he's resentful and doesn't understand he has to let that go or else it will eat him alive. but i also think there's something so beautiful about how determined he is to get what he wants.
but the sadness doesn't end there; the part that absolutely rips me apart is the fact that he could have gotten so far if he hadn't been burdened by so many things during the race. scary monsters is fucking cool, yeah, but maybe if he hadn't gotten pulled into the whole corpse parts thing he could have gone all the way. his determination bit him in the ass, his need to be at the center of everything fucked him over. he couldn't let it go, he had to let his greed for higher status get in the middle of it. up until the end he was so hungry for what he wanted that he literally threw himself out a window for it. his last words were "the one who was victorious was me" because that's all he wanted, he just wanted to win and climb the social ladder and he threw everything else away just for that shot. and his need for validation was probably a part of that too. validation that he lacked as a young child after his mother's passing, i imagine. (this part of my love for him may very well be completely fabricated in my mind but i have a tendency to make characters sadder than they actually are, it's my bread and butter, so take all this with a grain of salt)
the need for validation thing kinda kills me too, i have to wonder if there's some deeply rooted insecurities in there (also probably a longshot, but please give me this) and he might not even be aware of them because he's not good at self-reflection. every time he's like "well?" in terms of asking others for praise or validation or confirmation or whatever it sort of feels like a faint "please tell me i'm good because i have to hear it".. he's grown up hearing this stuff about how gifted and amazing he is, so he hasn't had to supply that validation for himself, if that makes sense?? his self-worth has been built off other people's words and, yes, while he fully believes those things about himself and will flaunt his everything, i think there's still something Sad about that. idk man i'm verging on 100% headcanon at this point but these are still things that make me appreciate his character even more. either way, he has Depth. a lot of jjba characters do, but he specifically fascinates me. dio started out being my favorite character in the whole series (and i still love him) but diego is like... dio but with some Good in him, he's redeemable. he's only hostile towards others if they get too close to him or pose him a threat. but at his core he's just like "leave me alone and i will leave you alone" and he isolates from people. god idk i just think he's so interesting and sad and troubled and the way it's all hidden underneath this air of self-importance is So Fucking Good!!!! i think if anyone could get underneath that thick layer of safeguarding they'd find a man who needs genuine human connection so badly and could really flourish and emotionally mature if he had it (again, we are in headcanon territory)
SO, i don't claim any of this as canon, when i love a character like this it's typically because i like to psychoanalyze them (and maybe sometimes project on them), it's like they become my little puppets and i make them dance around in ways that really intrigue me. diego is my favorite favorite favorite subject right now. i cannot get enough of this dude... :'))) also he fucking eats rocks... you Cannot hate a guy who eats rocks, fumbles around trying to drink coffee, and can turn into a literal dinosaur.
also, he is sooooo fucking hot.. like Holy Shit.. araki really said "im gonna make diego brando the prettiest character in all of jojo" and then He Did That. personal opinion, ofc, but oof the things i would do .. ANYWAY....
if you read through this monster of a post then i hope i answered your question LOL... i love talking about him and i'd love to hear other people's thoughts and headcanons about him :')) he's such a great character, i love drawing him, i love writing him, i love having him as a muse, he fills my heart with so much joy!!!!!

Does Johnny actually hate Diego? (Sources Cited)
The answer might surprise you!
Let’s take a look at the evidence:
Diego and Johnny's first interaction during the first stage
They don't appear to know each other well, with Johnny referring to him as "this brit jockey, Diego Brando". Interestingly, Johnny compliments Diego's skill as a jockey.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chapter 10: The Final Straight - 2000 Meters Left
And Diego indirectly compliments Johnny as well!
Tumblr media
Chapter 11: The Final Stretch - 1000 Meters Left
2) Scary Monsters Arc
Johnny and Gyro come upon an injured Diego. Johnny, more than anything, is in disbelief. Given that this arc directly follows Wired, he's likely wondering if Diego was attacked as well. He doesn't seem particularly happy that Diego could be dropping out, the action lines indicating the thought has him vaguely concerned.
Tumblr media
Johnny then attempts to get Gyro leave Diego be. Rather than any hatred, it seems he's mostly just suspicious about the circumstances of Diego's injury, given what rumors he's heard about him and, as mentioned above, he's distrustful of most anyone except Gyro due to the recent attack.
Tumblr media
Furthermore, Johnny is the only one to notice something strange is happening to Diego. It's his reaction to the injury we see. Gyro, apparently, is oblivious to this (despite being closer), and thinks Diego's frustration is amusing. Johnny remains mostly confused.
Tumblr media
A short while later, Diego miraculously catches up with them, and seems completely healed from the injury. Furthermore, he's acting extremely strange, leading to Johnny being even more suspicious and telling him to go away. On Diego's end, he actually compliments Johnny, as he did during the first stage. Johnny, however, continues to notice oddities about Diego's appearance and maintains his distance.
Tumblr media
Johnny continues to be hyper-aware of Diego, vehemently protesting needing to sleep in the same spot. Gyro, by contrast, is much more relaxed, despite also seeing Diego act strangely earlier. Now Johnny insults Diego, though again, these seem to be just rumors he's heard and his own anxiety over being attacked. Rather than a personal hatred for Diego, this reads more like Johnny trying to convince Gyro to somehow move them farther from Diego out of worry / suspicion that he'll pull something.
Tumblr media
Gyro leaves to gather firewood, leaving Johnny alone. Johnny makes coffee, and we get the rather infamous scene of Diego eating rocks. When Diego realizes Johnny is watching him and catches the scent of coffee, he has the audacity to ask for cup. Johnny questions him about his wound and Diego brushes it off. Johnny is not impressed, but, for whatever, reason, gives Diego a cup of coffee. Was he just trying to get him to leave? Was it a peace offering? Both? Anyway, he didn't toss it in his face or shoot him on sight. Despite all of the signs saying Diego is dangerous and Johnny is right to be suspicious, Johnny does not attack.
Also, why does he assume Diego wants to travel with him? Or that Diego would even ask him to travel together? Inch resting.
(this also reads a bit like little red riding hood, lol)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After a few pages of shenanigans, Diego snatches the cup from Johnny (though not without showing off first). Johnny calls him a slur, then wonders whether Diego even knows what he's doing. Despite Diego's overall strange behavior and Johnny's own reservations about him possibly being a 'terrorist', he still doesn't shoot.
Tumblr media
Chapter 28: Scary Monsters (Part 1)
So, again, no real hatred for the guy. Then, once Ferdinand is taken care of and Diego grabs the eyes, Johnny says this:
Tumblr media
Chapter 31: Scary Monsters (Part 4)
Now that Diego knows about the corpse - something coveted by everyone that Johnny too wants desperately - Johnny feels threatened. After being attacked, Johnny seems to believe the rumors he's heard about Diego have been confirmed, kicking off a more personal dislike for him.
3) Third Stage Goal
And here we see that... Johnny is mostly right. Diego is a very dangerous competitor, and he is using his new abilities to their full effect. Johnny warns Gyro not to underestimate him, again showing a certain respect for his skills despite his dislike for him.
Tumblr media
Gyro chooses to plunge into the lake and Diego follows right behind him. Johnny, reluctantly, also follows, trying to convince Gyro to return. He tells Gyro plainly that he will lose, because Gyro doesn't want to win for himself badly enough.

Chapter 32: Third Stage Goal: Canon City
This is interesting to me. Johnny calls Diego a thief, and yet in his next sentence he doesn't actually condemn him for it. All he's telling Gyro is that Gyro, personally, needs to want to win. He needs to 'hunger' for it, like Diego does (paralleled in how Johnny 'hungers' for the corpse!). Despite everything, it's obvious that Johnny, if nothing else, respects Diego's skills and drive.
Diego then cheats at the end of the stage to try and beat Gyro, proving Johnny is right to say he's the type of the person to do anything to win (and thus proving his suspicions of Diego right, to a degree at least).
4) Catch the Rainbow Arc
This race follows up on a lot of the things brought up during the third stage, but now Gyro's got a new philosophy. While Diego is surprised by this change in attitude, he's not going to sit back and let Gyro win. Once again, Johnny's suspicions are proven correct when Diego cheats to try and win against Gyro. He attacks because he knows exactly what kind of person Diego is, and that Diego is, in all likelihood, somehow already attacking Gyro.
Tumblr media
Chapter 39: Catch the Rainbow (Part 2)
Not much else to add, except that every time Johnny has suspected something is wrong / Diego is cheating... he's been right (lol).
5) A Silent Way
We get a lot more backstory for Johnny and a little more for Diego. This marks the first time Diego works in a team throughout the part, and it's also the first time we learn how easily he throws away his allies. But that happens later. What's important is this:
Tumblr media
We suddenly learn that Diego has always been a presence in Johnny's life, albeit apparently indirectly. Given how they interact in the first stage, we can assume they likely ran only a few races against each other (also, given the Joestar family moved away from Britain sometime between Nicholas' death (when Johnny was around 7-9) and Johnny winning the Kentucky Derby at 16, any races between Johnny and Diego would have taken place before Johnny was 16, meaning it's been over four years since they've seen each other and Johnny's dad is still bringing this shit up.) Furthermore, Diego is pointed out twice during the flashback to Nicholas' death. It's possible Johnny associates him with the incident.
Tumblr media
And then:
Tumblr media
Chapter 42: A Silent Way (Part 3)
What we learn from this is that it's entirely possible Johnny holds some sort of latent resentment toward Diego - even if Diego never did anything to him personally, Johnny may have been inclined to believe the rumors about him simply because of Diego's association with his father (and all the trauma that surrounds that relationship).
The judgements Johnny has been making about Diego throughout the part are usually proven right, even if it's not to the extent of poisoning the horse's water. And yet, despite all this, it still doesn't seem as though Johnny actually hates Diego himself. Mostly, he's just relayed what he's heard about Diego to Gyro (the rumors), been (rightfully) suspicious of him, and has accurately judged Diego's character as someone who'd do anything to get what he wants - and who therefore presents a very active threat to Johnny and Gyro's hunt for the corpse. Moreover, he's also expressed a respect and appreciation for Diego's skills and drive. Johnny never personally insults him or attacks without cause, which, to me, doesn't really convey an intense personal hatred. We'll round back to Diego being involved in this attack in a moment.
6) Let's Talk D4C Arc
Johnny and Gyro resolve to hunt down Diego and steal the left corpse eye from him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chapter 64: Chocolate Disco (Part 1)
Johnny, as always, is very practical in his assessment. He has time and again accurately judged Diego's character to be dangerous and ambitious, and also recognizes that, when push comes to shove, Gyro tends to waver. As this arc follows Civil War, we as readers know the depth of Johnny's resolve. Yet, this still isn't motivated by a personal hatred of Diego - rather, it's just more corpse business, and recognizing the lengths Johnny himself (and Diego, as they are of a similar nature!) will go to obtain them. I do think Gyro's hesitation to kill being a repeated idea is fascinating, especially given his past as an executioner, but that's for another time.
Diego makes his introduction for the arc here:
Tumblr media
Chapter 66: D4C (Part 1)
For whatever reason, he doesn't want Johnny dead. Is he hoping to ally with him? Maybe, but how useful is a Johnny 'on the verge of death'? For what purpose? He didn't seem to have a problem with killing Johnny earlier during 'Catch the Rainbow' (through, quite frankly, it wasn't clear if he was going to kill him there either, given he kept hesitating to follow through on his promise to 'tear you apart if you come within two meters of me', long enough for Gyro to get a shot in) (Chapter 39: Catch the Rainbow (Part 2))
Either way, we see that Diego now believes that Johnny is better left alive.
So, regardless of the later retconning of 'allowing multiple dimensions to exist simultaneously' for D4C's ability, through some series of contrivances, this then occurs (or well, technically occurs before the above conversation):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chapter 68: D4C (Part 3)
(notice how since Catch the Rainbow we are now on a first name basis, for both parties. Inch resting.)
Soon followed by a recap of everyone's POVs, ending in:
Tumblr media
Chapter 69: D4C (Part 4)
I find Diego's reaction to shooting Johnny very telling of his relationship with him. He honestly seemed to be in more disbelief than Wekapipo. Is it shock when he was so sure he was on the right trail? Surprise at who his bullets ended up shooting? (... regret? he did say he wanted Johnny alive).
This is why interpretation is fun!
And here's the kicker: Johnny still shows up and rescues him. In two different universes, two different versions of Johnny were found by Diego's raptors, and Johnny actually pulled up!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, despite Diego being a very active threat, Diego having attacked them with Sandman / Soundman, Gyro and Johnny agreeing to beat him up just a few chapters earlier, Johnny calmly stating he's willing to kill Diego should Diego force his hand, Johnny still, literally half-dead, followed Diego's raptors because he realized Diego was asking for help. Additionally, Diego was banking on Johnny’s arrival! He fully trusted that Johnny would understand why he sent the raptors, and also trusted Johnny would come to help him (a very very interesting parallel to the Magenta Magenta situation a few chapter earlier). This, if nothing else, shows Diego’s confidence in Johnny’s abilities and a belief that Johnny is someone who can be relied upon. Coming from Diego? Yeah, I find that super interesting.
Johnny later recounts to Gyro that he did see Diego as one of the people shooting him. Yet he still, in two separate universes, came to help. Did he see Diego's reaction and understand the shooting was Valentine's doing? Did he think Valentine was the bigger threat and so decided to put aside grudges and work with Diego (despite knowing what tends to happen to Diego’s allies)? Or, despite his earlier words, does he actually just not want to see Diego unnecessarily dead and instead of rounding back with Gyro decided to try and help him? We don’t know.
We can extrapolate that Johnny probably assumed, if Diego was asking for help, it meant Diego was close to Valentine. Yet base!Johnny, even while Valentine was in the parallel universe and Johnny was actively bleeding out (and really in no condition to actually fight him if not immediately necessary) still stayed to see what would happen to Diego.
After Diego has crossed back into the base world, we see that both alt!Johnny and base!Johnny witness Diego sacrifice Wekapipo to escape.
Tumblr media
Diego seems to express some regret for what he did to Wekapipo. Or rather:
Tumblr media
Felt some sort of way that Johnny saw him do it.
Chapter 70: D4C (Part 5)
7) Diego's Death
I won't cover High Voltage arc here, since that's a different Diego, though it is worth exploring The World!Diego's similarities and differences to base!Diego at a later point.
Anyway, Johnny and Gyro follow Diego and now Hot Pants to chase down Valentine and Lucy. After a valiant effort, Diego is killed (Hot Pants soon follows).
Tumblr media
Chapter 76: D4C (Part 9)
Again, not really any indication of hatred here. It's a statement of fact. No gloating, no cheering. Johnny at first seems rather affected, but quickly gets himself under control. After that it's all business and trying to save Lucy, then, of course, High Voltage.
Well, you've read this far. So, does Johnny hate Diego?
I actually don't think so!
I think he's deeply wary of Diego's character, and rightfully suspicious of his ambition, and willing to kill Diego to avoid being killed first, but I don't think Johnny has deep-seated hatred for him as a person. On a similar note, I don't believe Diego disliked Johnny at all. To me, it seems that the corpse frequently drove them into conflict, and Johnny had several good reasons for not liking Diego all that much, but never when I reading did I believe Johnny truly, deeply hated him (or vice versa).
They have a lot of neat parallels with Jonathan and Dio, the most significant of which I would point to being the respect they have for one another's drive and abilities despite the race and the corpse frequently pitting them against each other. Yet unlike Dio and even Jonathan, I don't think there was ever a period where they had animosity for one another that went beyond plain competition (for both the corpse and the race itself). Throughout the events of Phantom Blood and continuing into the rest of the original universe, Dio was the world's #1 hater of the Joestar family and it took a very long time for him to develop a genuine respect for Jonathan. And while Jonathan found it in himself to forgive Dio in the end, he states several times how much he hates Dio for constantly ruining his life (killing his dog, kissing his girlfriend, killing his dad, etc). Johnny and Diego were antagonistic at most, and I think if the narrative had gone differently might have made very interesting allies.
Nonetheless, their relationship is very complex and fun to dive into. Thanks for reading!

Synthetic rubber Market Revolution: A Market Overview
The global synthetic rubber market size is expected to reach USD 36.15 billion by 2032, according to a new study by Polaris Market Research. The report “Synthetic Rubber Market Share, Size, Trends, Industry Analysis Report, By Product Type (SBR, IIR, EPDM, IR, NBR, & Others), By Application, By Industry Vertical, By Regions, Segments & Forecast, 2019 – 2032” gives a detailed insight into current market dynamics and provides analysis on future market growth.
Synthetic Rubber Market is expected to grow at a quickest rate over the forecast period owing to wider applications of Synthetic rubbers in tire and non-tire segments of automobile industry. Adoption of synthetic rubber from industry such as industrial goods, fmcg and medical sector in various applications coupled with rising prices of natural rubber are some of other factors behind the growth of the market in the coming years.
Synthetic rubbers are artificially produced materials that mimic natural rubber's desirable properties. Petrochemical feedstocks are the primary raw materials for manufacturing of synthetic rubber. The major development of synthetic rubber can be attributed to one factor during the World War II period when the United States was cut off from all of its sources of natural rubber. To meet the country's needs, the government built synthetic rubber plants and sold the plants to industries in the post-war period, which gave a kick-start to commercializing synthetic rubber.
The synthetic rubber are widely adopted in a variety of applications for some of its beneficial characteristics such as better abrasion resistance, superior elasticity, heat and aging resistance, flame retardant, and flexibility at low temperatures. Some of the most common varieties of synthetic rubber used by end-use industry butyl rubber (IIR), polybutadiene rubber, styrene-butadiene (SBR) rubber, chloroprene rubber, Ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber (EPDM) rubber, nitrile rubber.
For instance, as per the European Automobile Manufacturer's Association (ACEA), world vehicle production has increased by 1.3% from 2020 to 2021, with a value of 79.1 million motor vehicles. Moreover, global car and commercial vehicle production grew by 0.03% and 4% from 2020 to 2021. In addition, the aggregate value for cars and commercial vehicles production in 2021 was 80.14 million, which was 3% higher than the 2020 production number of 77.71 million per the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers.
Various inhibiting factor for the Synthetic Rubber market can be attributed to the price fluctuation of Petrochemical feedstock (Crude Oil) raw materials in the last few years. Since crude oil prices largely depend on various factors, such as demand-supply and other geo-political relations between trading countries, it greatly affects the price structure and profit margins of synthetic rubber producers. In addition, the high manufacturing and rising transportation costs also impact the end-price of synthetic rubber products, further decreasing the demand from buyers end to some extent.

The COVID-19 pandemic has negatively impacted the Synthetic Rubber market across all regions. Various countries' governments have imposed certain measures to control the virus to further spread among the people. The temporary shutdown of multiple shops and production units had led to the decrease in demand and supply of products constituting synthetic rubber. In the pandemic period, the consumer demand was remained insignificant as consumers preferred spending money on their health and essential goods. The declining demand for various end-use industries has lowered the synthetic rubber market during pandemic period.
Synthetic Rubber Market Report Highlights:
The Styrene Butadiene Rubber (SBR) is anticipated to dominate the synthetic rubber market owing to its properties including high abrasion resistance, high tensile strength, and good aging stability, favor styrene butadiene rubber.
While, Nitrile Butadiene Rubber (NBR) has been anticipated to witness the fastest growth rate in the forecast period. The major factors for segment growth can be ascribed to its benefits, such as fuel and oil resistance, abrasion resistance, and good temperature properties.
The Tire segment is anticipated to account for a major share of the Synthetic Rubber market. The major factors can be attributed to various advantages such as better aging and heat resistance, abrasion resistant, excellent electrical insulation material, and others. For instance, as per the USA Tire Manufacturers Association, both passenger and truck tires use 24% and 11% synthetic polymers for their contribution to the life of a tire.
Asia-Pacific Region is accounted for the largest market share in 2022 due to presence of major tire producing countries in the region such as India, China, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, and Indonesia. For instance, as per European Automobile Manufacturer's Association (ACEA), Greater China accounted for around 33% of world car production in 2021 and 31% of commercial vehicle production in the same period.

Who Is The Best ETP And STP Plant Manufacturer In Singrauli?
Because of the large concentration of power plants, Singrauli, which is situated in the Vindhya area of Madhya Pradesh, is also known as India's energy capital. It is a growing industrial hub. In Singrauli, the production of sewage & industrial effluents has increased due to rapid urbanization & industrialization.
To responsibly manage its water assets/resources & assistance industrial expansion while respecting the environment, Singrauli must effectively treat these wastewater streams. Whereas STPs(Sewage Treatment Plants) manages, handles municipal, community, & residential sewage, ETPs(Effluent Treatment Plants)handle industrial effluents.
Singrauli's approach to clean industrial production relies heavily on well-designed ETP & STP Plants.
Singrauli's ETP(Effluent Treatment Plant)-STP(Sewage Treatment Plants) Plant Requirements
Numerous cement, chemical, & other related industries, as well as coal-based thermal power facilities, can be found in Singrauli. These units' effluent includes residues, acids, alkalis, suspended particles, hazardous metals, oil & grease, & chemical oxygen demand.
The region's groundwater supplies, aquatic ecosystem, & public health are all at risk when untreated industrial effluents are directly dumped into rivers & lakes.
To treat this wastewater employing/utilizing  various physico-chemical & biological processes to remove contaminants before final disposal in accordance with discharge rules, ETP plants are necessary. ETPs stop additional industrial pollutants from reaching Singrauli water bodies. Netsol Water is the best etp & stp plant manufacturer in singrauli at best affordable price.
In addition to industrial effluents, Singrauli's increasing urbanization & population growth have led to a rise in the amount of sewage produced by homes & businesses. Residential or Domestic level sewage consisting of nutrients, organic waste, pathogens & chemicals.
The release of raw sewage into water sources increases the need for biochemical oxygen & spreads illness by contaminating surface & groundwater. STPs effectively treat sewage by removing contaminants or rendering it safe for the environment through the utilization of screens, sedimentation tanks, the activated sludge process, clarifiers, filters, & chlorine dosing.
Tumblr media
Given the degree of urbanization & industry, Singrauli urgently needs an ETP-STP plant with enough capacity to treat sewage & effluents to approved levels before disposal. This will make it possible for Singrauli to sustainably expand its industrial base without endangering the public's health or its water supplies.
