I’m finally using my serger, only took me six months to get up the courage

Most of the stuff I work on at my alterations job is suits, but today I did a prom dress for the daughter of an acquaintance, and everyone else at the prom is going to be soooooo jealous of the 40 cm deep pockets I added.

frog documentation. frogcumentation
I think I mentioned a while back I'd post nibling frog momence after the gift's done given. which happened on the 2nd this month I just forgot lmao. anyways we can do it now. I used the boigameista pattern scaled up to four pieces of A4 print paper and decided to double deck it to a two layer thing, not unlike a pillow, for ease of washin. because it was gonna be gifted to a one year old child
took a long time and made a number of mistakes bc hand sewing makes me worse as a person but this guy was done in time for the birthday occasion and that's what matters. chose non-fuzzy fabrics for it because we live in a dense city in the tropics and from personal experience if I hug something made of fur I would explode. the original plan included felt patterns on its back for bonus textures for baby but that wouldn't stretch well along with the rest of the thing so had to hold that back. eventually we got this
zipper across its ass, the coat type of zipper bc I miscalculated when ordering. but it did have a shape and that's all that matters to me. will be a fun game for the baby to grow up and be severely misinformed about what a frog looks like
happy extremely late birthday to this thing also

I'm not reblogging the long post about sewing machine planned obsolescence because I feel it's slightly apples and oranges but what I WILL say is now I am looking at sewing machines on craigslist and having a delightful time. So many strange beasts

I found this blue Heather knit at Walmart and thought it’d be perfect for Maritza.
This evening I made 2 on my serger, testing out a straight strip of knit serged on one end as a neckline facing, same as I saw in a commercial garment. Worked on serger technique and pattern adjustments.
The second one sewed up sooo much quicker than the first. Practice makes perfect!
This fabric came in a 2 yard precut, so now I have 1 & 3/4 yards left of it… that’s a ton at doll scale o.O but also I think Luciana would like a t-shirt dress out of it, so that’ll use up some more.

Went to the free class to learn how to use my serger and now me and Edith (serger's name) are besties. She's got Personality because she is almost 30 years old (aka she doesn't function on default settings and takes tinkering to get anything other than a 4 thread overlocking stitch out of her BUT that is OK cuz I basically just bought her for four thread overlocking). She's so old she has to have a different plate for rolled hems but that's okay. I don't need rolled hems tbh. I don't like how they look. And! Luckily for me! Her bottom knife is super easily accessible so I should be able to replace it myself! Also! She takes regular sewing machine needles! She sews nice and slow, too which is nice because I was a liiiiittle bit scared of her.
Anyway, we're besties. Now I just gotta finish embroidering the green linen pant leg so I can start sewing those pants together!

I am having such a rough time focusing on literally ANYTHING besides sewing.
Job-Search? DnD? Dance Curriculum?
NO, MUST SEW. MUST MAKE MORE JEANS.
Have I finished even ONE pair? No. No I have not. HOWEVER, I have learned so much that the process is so smooooooth. I can cut out a whole pair and have the back legs fully flat-felled and pockets attached in a day. I just want to make MORE and MORE.
It doesn't help how many steps are blocked because I don't have access to a serger. So I just keep starting new garments, getting to the part where I need a serger, and then moving on to a new project.

ok. went to the fabric store today and successfully hemmed my depop velvet pants and successfully sewed the tiger to the jacket and successfully bought fabric glue because i need to admit that i have to take some shortcuts in order to make my life easier. i simply cannot hand sew the rest of my appliqués. everyone was very suitably impressed with my Vision™ and had many compliments 👼🏼 i had to hem the pants twice because the first time i didn’t cut off enough fabric so now i’m basically an expert 💅🏼 i also got to use a coverstitch machine for the first time and by god those things are amazing. also i got a burrito from my favorite taqueria bc i was in my old neighborhood and now i’m going to EAT IT!!

There is nothing I can recommend more than resisting disposability/forced obsolesence of things by getting interesting and modular with your possessions, like headphones with durable replaceable cords, sturdy army surplus or work clothes, repairing and fixing and modifying yr shit. Repairing things is a satisfying skill and It also looks sick as hell

Question:
I just bought enough black cotton to make myself another pirate shirt like this:
Would anyone be interested if I turned this project into a little sew-along?
Where I do a weekly post explaining what I'm doing and anyone who wants to can sew along with me and show off their progress and hopefully have a cool shirt at the end
Would that be something people are interested in?
