Another brilliant thing about the podcast is that instead of Holmes doing costumes as disguises (which we wouldn't see), he does a Voice. he does a silly Accent

Sherlock & Co makes me so happy!

Sure, John is the most awkward human being out there which is awesome and Mariana is the much needed female presence with screentime, but my favorite thing is Sherlock.

In other adapts Sherlock is mainly portrayed as a superhuman computer with faulty social performance (which is mostly played for laughs) and a drug addiction which is supposed to be his character flaw so he isn't called a Mary Sue.

On Sherlock & Co he is a neurodivergent person and deals with the challenges of that, he is not just a inhuman genius like they portray him way too often. It makes much easier to relate to him, to feel like he is a person out there, believable.

It's by far my favorite adaptation.

I was relistening to the first few episodes of Sherlock and Co.

John was going to leave after being kept awake all night and then being accosted by Obama’s security detail - Sherlock got together elements of a Ukrainian breakfast on the fly to try to…apologize? He said thinking of John’s IED made him peckish but his “Look, Doctor, you’re not looking” and “…from Ukraine” doesn’t read as someone who passively did this.

This is the same dude who refused to do his own grocery shopping later to the point that it was a Problem, but he was able to find/prepare food (I don’t think there’s premade deruny but I could be wrong) he seems to hope John would want.

I’m stuck on this as an autistic adult who tires really hard to be mindful of my friends even when my brain isn’t wired to do so easily. I find this quietly sad, even if in passing it’s easy to understand John’s side of the situation more readily.

ok here’s the thing about the new sherlock and co episode and please just read the whole post before you form opinions here

people upset about the implication of a relationship between john and mariana are valid. partially because if those people were in it to fix whatever fucked up shit moffat did to them with bbc, i think that’s a totally fine reason to be listening, and a totally fine reason to lose interest if the show isn’t gonna do that as long as they’re not dicks about it

but MOSTLY (at least for me) it’s because i was actually kind of hoping that mariana could be her own fucking character? like outside of being a love interest? introducing one (1) recurring main female character and immediately giving her ZERO screentime outside of 1. perfunctory two-second business negotiations and 2. long ass flirty romantic scenes with a male lead that contribute nothing to the plot and nothing to her character (yes they were clearly romantic. i’d love it if they were platonic! but come the fuck on you guys) yeah that’s fully just sexist. and also bad writing. and also dissapointing narratively. like i’m not letting that slide until this podcast at least passes the bechdel test.

do i think this is gonna kill the appeal of the show for me? probably not, as long as sherlock gets more screentime again in coming episodes. but it might pull me out of it a bit, yeah.

though this episode also has MANY problems outside of that, in my opinion, which is a conversation for another post
