#495 - A Town Nearing Spring (40mP) [GUMI]

Achievement Date: 19-05-04, Upload Date: 12-03-03

Very typical 40mP sound, although it’s a GUMI song, which is somewhat rare for the producer. It’s also a very simple song about spring travel, which betrays my pet theory about all 40mP being a bit sadomasochistic. It’s a nice song, I guess.

#496 - World-weary Rondo (YASUHIRO) [Kagamine Rin]

Achievement Date: 19-05-05, Upload Date: 17-11-05

Brass-infused jazz rock rondo, very typical of the YASUHIRO’s style with pretty depressing and quite macabre lyrics although you can figure that out by the title. Like the introduction of swing in the bridge, it adds a bit of variety. 

#497 - Decadism (flower, Shiwa) [Nuyuri]

Achievement Date: 19-05-07, Upload Date: 18-05-11

Another speed violating hit and first song for Shiwa, a Chinese VOCALOID. This kind of duet was part of a phase for Nuyuri, starting with It’s Just Life, unlike that song this really is a duet. Genderbent Nijisanji group covered it recently. Lyrics is of a breakup song expressed in an emptily abstract way, which matched Nuyuri’s refined style.

#498 - Aiseki Hierarchy (shr) [Kagamine Len]

Achievement Date: 19-05-07, Upload Date: 12-09-30

Shr is an underrated producer and their only song is here. Latin-infused piano rock, and an underrated Len song. The lyrics and the melody kind of feel like a mothyP song, although the instrumentation is completely different. It’s interesting.

#499 - Freedom Lolita (Nejishiki) [Yuzuki Yukari]

Another underrated producer’s first song on this list, and we have a Yukari song! Dramatic idol song, with a bit abstract yet risque lyrics, which makes it nice that it’s a Yukari song… Yukari rarely gets these kinds of songs, and she does a good job!

#500 - Atrium (R Sound Design) [flower]

Achievement Date: 19-05-13, Upload Date: 18-10-26

Lesser-known R Sound Design gets us to 500. Spiritual follow-up to Imperial Girl, a bit more dramatic and refined sound for this song. A good song to sing along although I don’t see many utattemita of this song. Also a very clear flower sound, nice.

#501 - Banchou (Teniwoha) [Hatsune Miku]

Achievement Date: 19-05-16, Upload Date: 11-06-23

Yes, Teniwoha had two songs before his perceived hit. This song is much older and it sounds nothing like what we know Teniwoha for. Yeah, who knew Teniwoha wrote a pretty funky Wa Rock in the Golden Age? Yeah, you should check it out. 

#502 - The Day I Became a Monster (rerulili) [Fukase]

Achievement Date: 19-05-18, Upload Date: 16-01-08

First of very few Fukase songs on this list. Fukase, still underrated VOCALOID. Rerulili does a good demonstration of Fukase’s voice. More refined piano rock, a bit astray from the hard rock of Human Zoo of Hell or the poppy group songs. I think Fukase gets pushed aside because the original voice is just too good, it feels like cheating.

#503 - Orange Genome (Tsunamaru) [Hatsune Miku]

Achievement Date: 19-05-29, Upload Date: 12-09-03

Another lesser-known producer, and a beautiful song with good piano and string accompaniment. Kind of a sing-song melody adds to the prettiness of the song. Yeah, probably one of the sweetest and youngest-feeling songs on this list, unlike the title.

This part of the list is very rock-heavy. Odd but okay.

#276 - Liar (Tsunamaru) [Hatsune Miku]

Achievement Date: 16-09-02, Upload Date: 11-06-10

From the guy who wrote paranoia, from way back when. This song has a bit more interesting construction. It feels like a tribute to some song, but I can’t quite put my finger around what song it can possibly be. 

#277 - Persecution Complex Cellphone Girl (lol) (GigaP) [GUMI]

Achievement Date: 16-09-15, Upload Date: 14-04-01

Let’s see how Giga deals with GUMI solo… Giga tunes GUMI a bit dark, so her songs kind of lean to almost Umetora-level. Although I guess just because it’s GUMI, it is Giga’s most human-sounding song yet. GUMI has a wide range but its humanness makes it oddly more constrained as a result, as our brains fold the sound more.

#U-3 - Inochi Mijikashi Koiseyo Otome (Death Ohagi) [Kasane Teto]

Achievement Date: 16-09-16, Upload Date: 12-10-06

Not to be confused with Oreimo ED. GUMI sounds so restrictive, but Teto doesn’t. For a rock Teto song, you’ll expect Teto to… go all out, since she can do that, but Teto sounds almost like a vocaloid, which kind of makes me miffed a bit, although that bridge really extends Teto’s capability with that smooth transition to speaking there.

#278 - 3331 (Nanou) [Hatsune Miku]

Achievement Date: 16-09-16, Upload Date: 11-10-31

Now this is closer to what Nanou usually writes with his band CIVILIAN, and in fact it’s the third track in their major debut. Honestly sounds like a missing Kagerou Project song, although you can also hear a bit of CIVILIAN as well. Pretty good.

#279 - Outburst Dreamer Boys (rerulili) [Kagamine Len]

Achievement Date: 16-09-23, Upload Date: 15-01-02

Unlike the title style, it’s not actually part of the Human Zoo of Hell series, because Len being chunni is just par for the course, not something deranged. I mean this could be one of the most Len song out there, just Len being cringe and sad. 

#280 - Death Should Have Not Taken Thee! (Wonderful Opportunity) [Kagamine Rin, Len]

Achievement Date: 16-09-24, Upload Date: 13-03-14

Jesus-P does it again, this time putting the Kagamines in the Adventure RPG setting that has been oft-covered. Not only are the lyrics very entertaining, the 8-bit rock here is honestly very impressive, with each line being very distinctive. One of my favorites.

#281 - Shiwa (buzzG) [GUMI]

Achievement Date: 16-10-15, Upload Date: 12-05-07

A song about living old with someone you love. Yes, we have a nice warm song for once. We also have buzzG, who doesn’t come here often, but has good songs. Definitely fits and sounds like an Anime ED, or even a Drama ED. 

#282 - Life Prolonging Treatment (Neru) [IA]

Achievement Date: 16-10-28, Upload Date: 12-12-28

Let’s see how Neru fares with IA, which seems like quite a jump, and while his tuning is different, but it much more suited for dark rock (side-eyes Jin), although in the chorus Neru can’t quite get away from the sing-song nature of IA, which doesn’t really fit the hard rock like this (unless you are making a Sound Horizon song).

#283 - Sakura no Kisetsu (Yuuyu-P) [Hatsune Miku]

Achievement Date: 16-10-29, Upload Date: 07-11-02

Huh, I thought Yuuyu-P had only two songs, but here is an early Miku song. A nice mix of rock and traditional sounds, nothing special other than that. Nothing that pops out unlike his two more famous songs, but it’s definitely good enough for a million views.
