To the sleepiest of travellers I know

My piece for the Like Light Through The Prism zine anthology for Pride Month.

Explanation below because it’s a bit long

I themed it around one of my favourite spirits - the Off-Season/Home/Old/Daily/whatever-you-call-them Guide, AKA Sleepy Traveller (I like to think they’re the same person!) and their cousin, Sanctuary Guide (according to Ash, that is.) for the emotional ties I have to the former and the implications of them both being magic users. It fits perfectly with the turquoise stripe meaning magic on Gilbert Baker’s rainbow flag - the stripe meanings being the theme for the zine as a whole!

There are many forms of love aside from what’s societally pushed as ‘most important’, so I wanted to express the value of familial love through this (the text being inspired by my own feelings about Sleepy too, though in different ways) and the emotions felt around a long-overdue reunion, when those you value the most indefinitely separate from you and the aches for their return, especially when that happens often.

I’ve had to deal with a lot of loss of sorts over time, including losing contact with people that I know understand and accept me the most, especially as a queer person. This is to honour all those lost bonds, and ones that reform despite it all, and ones that never do.

That aside, I hope you enjoy this piece! My first big one on a drawing tablet too. Had a lot of fun figuring it out, and the payoff was very worth it.

RAAAA I COME WITH SKY OC’S!!!! These were drawn awhile ago but the next two images are new!

Oh yeah and Lev is dead HEJJEVDJD

Some backstory:

Lev and Inara (green overalls) work on a animal shelter owned by Inara, who mainly takes in mantas. They lived in pre-war wasteland lonnng ago, like a little before and during when Valley was starting to be developed. (That long ago) Lev died when Valley was a moderately large “town” yet nothing like the city we see in present game.

Inara is Lev’s mentor and found as their Levs bio parent parent died early from an illness when Lev was little. (lamo rip) Inara also sees Lev as their own found family kid having being close to their parent, and thus being around Lev because of it.

They both love their jobs, love looking after the animals and making rescues. Lev also has a manta named Cleft, as the manta is missing one of their tail fins. They have a prosthetic for their missing fin like how toothless does from HTTYD .

When darkstone first came out they had complex feelings about it. And when light was drained from mantas for it they disliked it more. Inara hated it, and Lev has complex feelings because they see how much it’s improved their society, yet also jfc they’re hurting mantas for fucks sake.

Oh and when Inara they eventually died, they became great friends with Flight Guide as they still went down to the kingdom to check on their ranch and all, and they clicked well for their shared values on light creatures and darkstone. (will update Inara in their spirit form as they died decades after Lev did)

Age wise, Lev when they died would’ve be late 20’s, and Inara in mid 50’s. Still unsure of exact age to make them both tho
