Hehehe the moment Garrus realizes he’s in a little too deep with Shepard, and maybe the moment he fell in love, at the Turian banquet in “Son of Palaven, Daughter of Earth” by @miceenscene. Garrus feeling a little hot and flustered 😏
Go read the fic!

I just need and want to say: if there‘s that case where you haven‘t read sopdoe (son of palaven daughter of earth) as a shakarian-fan, then go read it NOW! I binge-read it in 3 days

This is what I imagined Shepard’s Gala dress looking like in @miceenscene ’s beautiful story, Son of Palaven Daughter of Earth.  I am SO IN LOVE with the story and the world building and I am DYING for the last four chapters! Totally check that one out!!
I couldn’t decide between the dark and light background. So have both! And some detail closeups.  She definitely took me at least 60 hours to make.  I have NEVER tried to make a piece so detailed and perfect.  THE dress deserved nothing less tbh

I just have to say thank you so much for healing my broken heart. I just read "Son of Pavalan Daughter of Earth." And... This is literally cannon to me. No one can convince me otherwise. The amount of times I actually laughed! Like actually laughed! And smiled! Thank you!
...but did you kill Garrus? Please say that isn't true in that world.. please 😭 or is it a completely different fanfic?!
Also I hope it's not too much to ask but would you be writing more fluff of them soon? 🥺
...would you possibly make this story into a comic? 🥺👉👈
Thank you so much for reading! I'm so happy you enjoyed it. :)
If you're referring to the little preview in chap 66 of SoPDoE for Full Circle, then no. It's just dramatic ;) If you're referring to Angel of Death or Loss or The Last and the First then ....only a leetle. And AoD it doesn't even stick! :P
man why do i keep killing that guy? eh he can't complain i kill shepard more just to make him suffer. he's so pretty when he cries.
as far as the fluff goes, imma keep it real with you chief. it's not that i don't want to. it's that it's Effort™ to sit down and do the typey-type-type and i've been having a Time trying to coax my brain to do the damn thing anymore. sometimes i can write a bit, but i haven't gotten something over the 'Can Be Shown To The Public' goal line yet. maybe someday.
and i am a terrible drawing artist. a sopdoe comic by my hand would be dookie garbage. but if there's some enterprising person out there who would like to attempt, they have my blessing and i'm available to do consulting.

Sorry if this has been asked or covered already, but how do you feel about SoPDoE (or your fics in general) being printed and bound, for personal use?
As long as it's for personal use, totally fine! Send pics when you've bound it :)

What was your writing process with the first SoPDoE story? For example, did you have a general concept for the story outlined ahead of writing it, or did you write first and see where it took you? Or maybe your process was totally different--I'd love to know any of your experience and process that you're willing to share!
Did you learn anything while writing it that may help other writers in terms of writing a longfic, improving craft, etc?
I'm going to go ahead and put this beneath a cut because I can already tell it's going to be long. :P also SoPDoE spoiler warning?
SoPDoE began as a spite fic. I read (well, started reading) a different shakarian arranged marriage au and found myself frustrated that the plot wasn't being handled the way I wanted it to be--which is really the best way to begin a story because it means you have an Opinion. The first chapter just sprang forth fully formed [their parallel "Absolutely Not" answers and Garrus' "With all due respect, what the fuck?" and Shepard just verbally bitch-slapping in their first interaction]. And then major pathways became clear very quickly. I knew that the Council was going to break them up quite early on in the writing. I knew that Galena dying would be a major catalyst to push them together. But some things came later, like the whole Garrus starting a Pier Earth Imports for Shepard plot-line came. And a whole slew of kissing scenes had to be removed/reworded because their relationship arc wasn't making sense for the drama I wanted in act III. (I did save those scenes, btw. they're in a doc called Kissing Graveyard XD)
There's this concept you've probably already come across of plotters vs. pant-sers. Aka writers who plot out their whole stories before beginning writing and writers who just jump into the story without anything planned more than the next sentence. If I had to pick, I'm definitely in the plotters, but realistically, I'm in both. I like knowing where the general flow of the story is going, even if I'm not sure how to get there or what getting there will actually look like. For SoPDoE, I always knew that Garrus & Shepard would finish the story Together, but the exact details of Together changed over time as the story progressed. (At one point Garrus & Shep were duo spectres, till I realized that would make no sense for a turian who just turned his back on the whole Hierarchy.) And that's really the best way to do things, at least in my opinion. You have your heading so you have momentum, but you also aren't so driven that you can't stop and smell the roses along the journey.
I think the biggest thing that SoPDoE taught me was how much work goes into writing a whole-ass novel. Knowing that makes me feel better about starting wip's that I eventually abandon, because I know that the idea wasn't worth the effort. It's a good way to grant myself permission to move on and find the next idea that actually Is worth the effort.
The other thing SoPDoE taught me was how to keep myself engaged in a story. People write for all different reasons and when I began I don't think I knew what mine was. I know now. SoPDoE was catharsis for me. Garrus was my self-insert in this fic, especially through the Galena plot line as I am also losing a parent to a long drawn-out terminal illness that will one day take a sudden turn for the end. This is what they mean when they say Write What You Know. But besides catharsis, SoPDoE and all of my writing really are performance. I love having an audience beyond just my wonderful readers. I have a close circle of friends who see my stuff before anyone else does. I trust their opinion, their critique; I strive to surprise them, to delight them, to make them bust into my DM's in a frothing rage. They've taught me so much about writing, and they are who I write for when I can't write for myself. If you can figure out what type of carrot will keep you plodding along the path of writing, you'll be leagues ahead of so many.
As far as improving craft, the best advice I can give is to write. You gotta write. Better to write a full page of utter garbage than to not write anything at all. Even the garbage will teach you something.

Commander Shepard was there the day Earth lost the First Contact War. Major Garrus Vakarian personally watched Humanity surrender to the Turians. But they never could have dreamed the roles they would have in the oncoming fight.
Yeah, it’s an arranged marriage AU. Cuz I’m Shakarian trash. So. Enjoy.
Chapter 65: Be Buried in Thine Eyes
“Alert me the second the lab comes back with results. We don’t need to give this bastard anymore time to get away,” Garrus ordered.
“Yes, sir,” the patrol officer replied, nodding as fast as he was taking notes on his omnitool before scurrying away.
Garrus gave one last look around the lab that should have been filled with nightmares and a truly astonishing array of blood, then headed out towards where he’d parked his car. A small gathering of morbidly curious people had gathered outside the C-Sec tape, held at bay by polite convention and the collection of C-Sec agents.
It wasn’t the only case he was working on right now, but it was the most puzzling–all signs had pointed to this lab, but there wasn’t any trace of the horrifying collection of bodies Garrus had expected to find. But his train of thought was interrupted by the sight of Shepard leaning casually against his patrol car at the end of the block. A slow grin spread across her face as she saw him.

Chapter 64: Die in Thy Lap
It was a conscious effort to keep the toe of Garrus’ boot from tapping against the floor. He considered just letting it go, the hallway had enough people passing through it that no one besides him would notice. Though it would be just like C-Sec to have a camera pointed at the waiting area too. Twitchy under pressure wasn’t a widely hirable trait. Really it was a miracle he wasn’t wearing a hole into the floor with pacing. But he’d figured that sitting at least had the appearance of calm, and this way he could have a staring contest with the ominous door just across the hall.
A low beep from his omnitool interrupted further arguments with his bouncing foot. It was a message. He smiled as he looked at the string of seemingly random numbers, copying them over to a local program on his tool that he’d written himself. Only one other omnitool in the whole galaxy had a copy.

Chapter 62: An Ever Fixed Mark
Shepard was close enough that Garrus could smell her. Salt and soap and a thousand beautiful memories constricted around his throat. Fuck . He couldn’t help but watch her as she calmly approached the edge of the balcony, ending up at a polite distance from him. Somehow both too close and too far away all at the same time.
Immediately, he began running damage control scenarios. Maybe… maybe she hadn’t realized that it was him standing guard on this balcony. She wasn’t even looking at him, just surveying the view. Perhaps she’d just come out here for some air. He could do this, hold himself together and pretend to just be a normal C-Sec officer standing watch. Nothing out of the ordinary, everything was fine. This would all be just fine.
Then Shepard spoke. “I didn’t expect to see you here tonight.”
